Completely Drained Battery Charging

Hi all, I recently purchased a used 20 gb, 4G Ipod on ebay, it had a replacement battery installed, but the seller said it needed to be charged before use.
I tried everything to get it to charge with a USB 2.0 connection (the same cable and computer that charges my Ipod mini 2nd gen just fine) but no luck. I tried a DC car charger as well to no avail. The Ipod shows no icons at all and the PC doesn't recognize it, I tried resetting it as well but no good.
I talked with the seller and he told me neither the USB nor the DC charger had enough power to charge a completely drained battery. He suggested an AC Wall charger instead, which unfortunatly I don't have.
My question then, would an AC wall charger likely work better at charging a completely drained battery? I'm probably going to try and get one to try at least, if not just buy one, but I'd like some idea of the chances that he's right about needing it to charge the Ipod.
Thanks for any assistance

  • IPad restart from completely drained battery

My wife's iPad battery was completely drained and I cannot get it to restart. Help please

Have you left it plugged in for a while? if the battery is totally depleated it can take an hour or more to see any signs of life.
I'd suggest that you plug it in over night and then give it a try. If it's still unresponsive then either there's something wrong with the iPad or there's something wrong with the charger or cord. If you have spares, you can swap those out just to be sure. But if it won't come back then you may need to make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check it out. It's possible that your battery has totally died and will need to be replaced.

  • Bedside mode completely drained fully charged battery

I awoke this morning, waiting for my alarm to go off and low and behold, my brand spanky new Z30 was fully discharged, only the red battery of death symbol would come on.
Bedside mode activated, Hotspot turned off, pretty fancy red clock displayed before i fell to sleep.
Phone was not plugged in but was fully charged before entering bedside mode.
Any support would be greatly appreciated.
I hope this can be rectified as I have used this function with previous BB models and the short charging cable they supplied with the phone will not reach anywhere near my bed.

I like to charge while i am sleeping and use a longer cord ro extension cord to it
it might be that it can only support Video: Up to 12 hours and you reached a limit
My Z10 will only last about 5 hours if that in bedside mode

  • Completely drained battery and other weird issues

    Hello,
    I have a MBP 13" early 2011 (8GB ram, 250GB SSD).
I have not used it for a couple of months (4-8 or so) but I recently decided to re-install it with the latest osx.
Since I'm not that used to OSX and MBPs I decided to let an AASP do this, which they did. When I went to get
it they said that it was VERY slow and that it didn't run on battery alone (i.e. the power cord had to be in all the time).
OK, that's weird I thought, it worked fine when I last used it.
I got it home and booted it up, and it was very slow. I got information of an update, that should take 8-9 minutes to install, but it took approx. an hour.
The battery info says it should be replaced now and that it's not charging. And it's empty. 0 mAh
The battery cycle count is just 33.
I've tried resetting the SMC, but... I don't know if that worked, or even if I did reset it. No feed-back...
I've tried running the Apple Hardware Test, but this "When the Apple Hardware Test chooser screen appears, select the language for your location" never happens.
So, I have a couple of questions:
    - could the "slowness" have something to do with the empty battery?
    - how come it suddenly stopped working, while not being used?
    - anyone have any idea what's going on or what might have happened?
    And of course:
    What are my options?
    Thanks in advance,
    Markus

I did try the online recovery but that didn't work, that's why I had an AASP fix it. So ATM it does run Mountain Lion which is what I wanted. It is just the other issues that are annoying.
Although I agree that both batteries and hard drives may fail on occasion, it's weird that they both should fail while being turned off. And I'm fairly certain that I did turn it off, prior to putting it in the bag and going home. Not 100% certain, but I usually turn laptops off while moving to and from the office/home.
I'll see if I can dig up the hd that was included with the MBP and test with that.
I could sell it of course, but I thought I'd fix it so my girl friend could use it. And of course, for me to get more used to it
    Thanks for the reply!

  • EVBRIDGE draining battery + charger suggestions?

I was all excited to have one of the newest phones. So skinny ans nice looking. I am dissapointed at the battery I am getting. I have smart actions on to save battery and I can get around 4 to 5 hrs of battery life. I started to dig around. I have the lapdock and it seems that the EVBRIDGEservice is using up at least 35% of my battery.. i quickly killed them with the advanced task killer (and people say we are not supposed to have it huh) and I will report battery life after that.
Any suggestions on a portable charger that DOES actually work? I saw verizon sells one but I dont know.. I used to have a duracell that would charge my droid x half ways.  On my bionic I had a spare battery and life was great! But I wanted to have a new phone. I bought the phone from someone who bought a razor maxx so I do not have warranty and cant call verizon to replace. Im sure phone is not defective.
    So in summary.
Anyone else having that process eat up battery? What external charger that charges your phone to 100% do you use?
    I am a HEAVY user.
Wifi off, brigtness dimm. 4g area.

I just got my HD dock in a couple days ago and am experiencing this same problem. I have a RAZR maxx and my phone was down to 30% in just 10 hours when it is usually at 70 or 80%.  I also noticed my phone getting hot today in my pocket, usually an indicator that the phone isn't sleeping...but I checked my battery usage and while the phone is in fact sleeping some how evbridge has used 3 hours of cpu time and 35% of my battery. This is extremely annoying. I'm hoping a reboot will fix this but I'm guessing I'm going to have to do a hard reset.

  • Google Earth draining battery??

I have had amazing battery life with the IP4 until I downloaded google earth.
The most it would drain prior to google earth was from 100% in the am to 75% at the lowest by 7:00pm after a full days use.
After the install it dropped to 35% by 7:00pm. That was with the app running in the background.
Last night I stopped it from running in background and today it's back to normal.
    Anyone else experience this?

I've also noticed certain apps (e.g. Google Earth, GPS Drive) draining battery charge noticeably when left running in the background. And I've been obsessive about "closing" all the background apps whenever possible, leaving behind only those which I know I need for multitasking. As much as I love multitasking with my iP4, since each and every app once started stays around until intensionally removed, it is becoming an issue for me. Perhaps other folks may have a word of wisdom on this topic.

  • Ref:iphone 3G.I was visiting the US last week. One day my iphone battery completely drained overnight.I re-charged it but ever since it has either come up with a message saying it's registering, or that I need to register it.It was registered years ago.

Ref: iphone 3G. I was visiting the US last week.  My iphone battery completely drained overnight. I re-charged it but ever since it has either come up with a message saying it's registering or saying I need to register it.  I'm concerned that if I re-register it on itunes I'll lose all my data.  I originally registered it a couple of years or so back, when it was new.  Any advice much appreciated.

Thank you for quick reply.  The data is still there - every so often when I switch it on, it comes up with the main icon screen, rather than the emegency calls only screen (which it does most of the time), and I can get to my contacts, photos, and so on, but it won't connect to any mobile/cell network provider, including my network here in the UK - O2.

  • Battery completely drained on 15" MBP - charged but now computer has errors

The other night I came home from work and found my mac had been completely drained.
I plugged the computer in and it charged up, however when I turned it on it has been a nightmare ever since. I had to reset the date/time settings on the computer, and re-enter my WiFi password. That was simple enough.
The problem is that the computer is complainging of ACL and permission issues now and is telling me I do not have access to read files on my own computer.
I have repaired the disk, repaired disk permissions and still nothing. I also used the tool "Cocktail" which has helped file issues in the past and still nothing.
Now, I have gone to reboot my computer and cannot get passed the grey apple logo screen with spinning marker at the bottom...

You can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.

  • Ipod acts like battery's completely drained, but won't accept charge

Ok so, I've had my iPod nano for over five months now. I got it for Christmas 2008. The unit is telling me two different things: when its plugged into anything, it says the battery's fully charged, but when I unplug it, it says "battery low, connect to power source'. So basically my ipod's acting like the battery's completely drained, and when I try to charge it, it won't accept the charge, telling me its full up.
I've been trying everything I can think of to alleviate this problem. I even restored my ipod completely, and put all my music etc. back on. It didn't work.
So I'm thinking that maybe this is an internal problem... something with the battery.

    Hi Wafflemonster,
Have you used your iPod with any 3rd-party accessories, like a car charger or dock?
Try resetting the iPod by toggling the Hold switch and then holding the Play/Pause and Menu buttons until you see the Apple logo, as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
If the issue persists, try restoring the iPod from iTunes as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339
If restoring the iPod does not resolve the issue, the iPod may need hardware repair. Make a reservation to have a Genius take a look at it or call AppleCare.

  • Fully charged ipod battery completly drained once sync to itunes???????

I have a 3rd gen ipod. The battery seems to hold a good charge that is until I hook it up to my pc. The battery can be fully charged but after hooking it up to sync with itunes, the battery is completly drained in less than three minutes causing the ipod to reset itself an making it extremly difficult to load my music. Prior to receiving an applcation error in the past this was never an issue.....Any idea or suggestion why this would be happening?

"Once removed from the pc and plugged into a ac charger for about 10 minutes the battery is half full and nowhere near drained?"
Don't rely too much on the battery indicator for this info, it's well known for being about as much use as a chocolate spacesuit.
    However, here's your problem.
"I connect it through the usb port." (you left that part out of your original post)
3rd gen iPods cannot charge via a usb port. So as I said, it's not getting any power whilst transferring songs.
How do you normally charge the iPod?

  • X220 Battery charge drains when completely powered off

The original 6 cell battery charge drains when my X220 (i7 2640) is completely powered off or hibernates. When the battery is detached no charge is lost. When I disable WOL and Always-On USB, the charge lost decreases. Is this a common issue or do I face a hardware malfunction?

The fingerprint reader will drain a fair amount of power waiting for a swipe while the system is off (unless you have this option disabled).

  • Ugent: DM4-1160us laptop not charging battery when battery completely drained

    Hi, all,
I bought it last year and, a month later, I found it does not charge battery when the
battery was completed drained. "completely drained" means when clicking on power on
button, the charging light does not even flash. In such as case, if I plug in the power cord
to charge the battery, the computer will stay in "charging, 0%) forever and the charging
light stays amber and sometimes turns into white later.
Computer can not power up without power cord plugged in. Battery dinostics said battery
is bad and gave an error long error code. HP suppport replaced it with a new battery. But,
I found later the same problem happened again.
Note: the problem only happens when battery is completed drained meaning
the charging light does not flash when trying to turn the computer on.
I suspect the computer itself is defective. Anyone has idea?
    Thanks,
    SZ

THIS IS THE SOLUTION AND IT WILL TAKE 90 SECONDS TO FIX
Power management software in Windows Vista
    Understanding battery charging issues
If the notebook battery is not charging or the notebook does not indicate that the battery is charging, the most likely scenario is that the battery itself is operating correctly, but its power management software may have become corrupt. In order to correct the problem, you will need to uninstall and reinstall the power management software by using the Device Manager. This document will explain how to uninstall and reinstall the ACPI Battery listings in Windows Vista, as well as how to obtain and install updated BIOS files, if needed to correct other battery issues.
Uninstalling and reinstalling power management software in Windows Vista
In order to correct problems with the battery's power management software, follow the steps below.
    1. Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager .
    2. Expand the Batteries category.
    3. Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall .
WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.
    4. On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes .
Alternately, select Action > Scan for hardware changes .
Windows will scan your computer for hardware that doesn't have drivers installed, and will install the drivers needed to manage your battery's power. The notebook should now indicate that the battery is charging.

Got it sorted though. Seems that Apple has issues with multiple apple id's.
Seems i had to somehow remember and use the original id i had when i first bought my 1st iPhone. . . .
Even after that it was extremely hard to get my apps back on my PC.
