Completely Embed Font (not Subset) in PDF several methods not working

Hi,
I have an Illustrator CS5 file, on a Windows 7 PC.
I have used "Save As" direclty from Illustrator, also "Print" with Distiller and finally the Acrobat Pro 9 "Preflight" "Fixups" to Embed Fonts.
This has included setting subsetting to 0% and in the "Print" dialogue when using the Distiller method, changing the font dropdown to "Complete".
I do not want to convert my font to outlines, because of the changes this causes. I do not want to subset - but completely embed the fonts.
This is driving me insane, and I really would appreicate any suggesstions. Please help!

Thank you for your excellent posts. I am saving your posts for future reference.
I e-mailed the printer and got this reply:
"A 100% font embedding is actually not possible in most InDesign versions and in fact Adobe’s product never do it. It is really a bug from Adobe and it doesn’t work! Subsetting is therefore also perfectly fine and doesn’t pose a problem at all for printing."
I think the instructions from their website are rubbish. They seem to do this to cover their own backs / make statements that aren't true just to keep everything simple, so that truly idotic people can still create PDFs to send to them for printing. Whenever I e-mail them, I get intelligent replies, that usually contradict the rubbish on their website.
They accept PDF-2008, so their workflow can't be that old, I guess. (I'm a designer, I just know the minimum required about print technicalities!)
Our previous printer wanted everything in PDF-X1a, and subsetted fonts, and they had no certifications of any kind, yet we always got good results from them.
onlineprinters.com say this about their certifications: http://www.onlineprinters.com/Certified-quality.htm?websale7=diedruckerei;02-aa&tpl=02-aa/ $ws-cms/uu_certicied_quality.html&type=zertifizierte_qualitaet_hnavi_b
and they say they have the latest gear from Heidelberg and KBA:
http://www.onlineprinters.com/uu_offset_printing.htm?websale7=diedruckerei;02-aa&tpl=02-aa /$ws-cms/uu_offset_printing.html
and have 40,000m2 of production space. I think they know what they're doing, but whoever writes the website should be fired!

  • Embed fonts not working

    Hi,
    I want to embed fonts within my Application but somehow it is not working.
    I am doing the steps as below:
    I am compiling fonts swfs in Flash CS4 with Publish settings as Flash Player 10 & ActionScript 3.0
    Then I am having css files which I am compiling with mxmlc like: mxmlc c:\Palatino.css.
    It is compiling and giving me swf file as Palatino.swf. I am doing this with "Adobe Flex 3 SDK command prompt"
    Then I am loading these files with "StyleManager.loadStyleDeclarations".
    But still when I am changing the fontFamily to "Palatino", it is now showing it.
    I have attached the Palatino.css with this. I am using Flex 3.2 with TLF version 442.
    Please let me know if I am making any mistake.
    Regards,
    Rajesh

    Hi Abhishek,
    Thanks for the reply.
    Actually in my project which was previouly built in Flash 9 we were using TextArea.
    We first have created Flash files for all fonts first (in Normal, Bold, Bold Italics...). Then we have all the css files like one which I have attached before. Then we compile this with Flex 3 SDK command prompt with mxmlc.
    Then we have already worked out to load these font swf files and use them.
    I just want to follow similar approach here for TLF.
    Let me know how this can be achieved.

  • How to embed fonts in an existing pdf document

    PDF Documents I am creating and emailing to my clients are showing up missing bargraps and text. I suspect embedding is not working. Is it possible or even needed to embed fonts in an existing pdf document? Or, is that done during pdf creation? -MikeT

    You'd want embedded fonts with your PDFs so as to assure fidelity of your content.
    If my local machine does not have the font used in the PDF what I view may be / can be something "off" from what you mastered.
    Perhaps squares instead of language characters.
    Distiller job options such as High Quality Print or Press Quality embed fonts (Standard does not).
    For a PDF that does not have embedded fonts a Preflight Fixup can be used to embed fonts (even one for hidden text from Searchable Image or Searchable Image (Exact) OCR output).
    Need Acrobat 9 Pro or Pro Extended.
    The fonts must be on the local machine and "known" to the OS.
    The fonts must have no license restriction(s) that preclude embedding.
    Be well...

    Intelligent barcode font not working in Data Merge?
    When using Data Merge I only get a pink box where the code is supposed to go. If I cut and paste the same info into the spot the bar works fine. Anybody ever have this problem?

    It looks like you're working with InDesign, correct? I would try posting your question over in the general InDesign forum: http://forums.adobe.com/community/indesign The folks over there will be able to provide you with more specialized expert help

  • Embed fonts not available error (But they are available sysetm fonts)

    Hello!
    I tried to search and actually did found some answers regarding font problems, but they did not help. So I am explaining here my problem in hope that someone can help me.
    My company bought a HP Xeon X3450 @ 2.8Ghz. @Gb RAM DD3 1333 with Windows 7 64-Bits version Professional.
    We installed Adobe CS3 Suite on Windows 7 64-Bits version and the problems with fonts started.
    We used to work with XP Professional before this new machine arrived and never had system fonts propblems with Adobe CS3 Suite.
    Basically, what happens is:
    When I try to open PDF files with embed fonts (system fonts susch as ARIAL for example) the program returns an error saying that the fonts are not installed/available, but checking the C:\windows\fonts, they are there and working fine on Office or other common application such as notepad for example.
    I tried the workaround I found on these very forums of copying the fonts to the folder C:\Program Fils\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts and it still does not work.
    Formated the HD and then installed Windows 7 32 bits (x86) and still have the same problems. All updates were made and applied to Adobe and Windows respectively for both 64 and 32 versions and the error still happens.
    In resume, fonts are installed, they are system fonts but under Windows 7 64 or 32 bits versions they simply do not work when opening the PDF files with embed fonts.
    -The PDFs had no problems before while running windows XP Professional.
    -The PDFs open whithout any problems on machines with Windows Xp Professional.
    -This is happening specifically in Adobe Illustrator CS3 and CS5 and Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 and 9.
    Please, I urge for help since we don't know what to do anymore.
    Thank you all who took time to read this and forgive my terrible english, it is not my first language.
    Best regards,

    Andre,
    What I believe you have is 2 different versions of Arial, you old machine probably contains the version you need.
    By old version, I mean one could by true type(XP), and another Opentype (WIn 7), and the error comes up. Even though they have they same name (Eg: Arial Bold).
    There are even old version of fonts that are both of the same font technology format and have different FOND ID  numbers(Eg: Frutiger was one that I often encountered, but you don't see this problem that much nowadays).

  • Arial Unicode MS Fonts not working in Report (PDF)?

    any body can help me plz. Forms 11g

    Hi Junaid,
    Please try these steps
    In report builder change fonts of text fields to Arial Unicode MS
    1. Copy ARIALUNI.TTF from c:\windows\fonts to c:\Oracle\Middleware\as_1\reports\printers
    This path sould be set in REPORTS_PATH in registry
    eg.
    REPORTS_PATH =
    C:\Oracle\Middleware\as_1\reports\templates;C:\Oracle\Middleware\as_1\reports\samples\demo;C:\Oracle\Middleware\as_1\reports\printers;C:\WINDOWS\Fonts
    2. set NLS_LANG = AMERICAN_AMERICA.AL32UTF8 in registry
    3. Modify uifont.ali (available in C:\Oracle\Middleware\asinst_1\config\FRComponent\frcommon\tools\COMMON)
    [ PDF:Subset ]
    "Arial Unicode MS"..... = "ARIALUNI.TTF"
    Copy this modified file in C:\Oracle\Middleware\as_1\tools\common
    4. Restart weblogic server.

  • Fully embed fonts when saving as PDF

    Hi,
    I am saving an Illustrator file as PDF and in the Save As PDF settings dialogue pages, no matter what I do regarding fonts, the final PDF file always outlines some of the fonts instead of embedding it.
    (I tried various settings for "Subset fonts when percent of characters used is less than XX%" including 0%, 1%, or 100%, it didn't make any difference)
    Is there a way to force Illustrator into embedding fonts when saving as PDF?
    Thanks.

    Monkia/Steve,
    I followed up on another thread and it turned out this one joins the discussion there.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/6246758#6246758
    I made some additional tests and we concluded there that Save As PDF and Print to PDF from Illustrator do not work the same way. It doesn't solve my problem but it certainly helps move in the right direction...

  • Embed Fonts savinf a form (pdf)

    Hi,
    Can someone tell me what is the difference from saving a form with or withour embed forms selected?
    Without embed fonts selected, the form get smaller, what it is better, but what is the disadvantage?
    Thank you

    Hi Chris,
    I know this is a dead discussion but I am having many problems with embedding. Basically (1), after saving as Dynamic PDF with fonts embedded and with permanently replace all fonts I still get weird replacements when the file is opened in Reader. Then (2), when I tried to replace all the substitutions with Arial and Times and NOT embed the PDF still shows some embedded fonts (Myriad, Franklin) when opened in Reader in doc properties. This seems Very buggy?! Is there any known issue and/or workaround. Thanks!

  • Embed fonts late in existing PDF-document

    Hello,
    I already searched for hours to find a way to embed fonts in existing pdf-documents.
    I tryed it in these ways:
         1. Creating a PS-file out of the PDF-file and the creating a PDF-file out of the PS-file --> it doesn't work, because the PS-file can not be created
         2. editing the PDF-file via the adobe sdk wich is installed whith the AdobeAcrobatStandard9 --> I don't find a way to set the fonts to embedded
    I now that it is possible to embed the fonts while open the pdf-document manually and edit it with the TouchUp-Tool. But this way we can not handle, because we need to edit thousands of documents. So we need a solution wich works as a CommandLine-Tool or so.
    I hope anyone have an idea and can help me
    Thanks a lot
    Clemens

    Acrobat 9 Standard does not have the capability.  It is, however,
    available as part of Acrobat 9 Professional.  That solution can also be
    used as part of a Batch Process to address your volume needs.
    There are no command line options available.
    Also, don't forget that Acrobat can NOT be used on a server...

  • PDF Embed is not working with BRAZILIAN Charset

    Hello,
    a strange thing is happening with my reports server 9i.
    I have Oracle 9ias R2 with 9.0.2.3 patchset and Forms and Reports 9.0.2.3 patchset installed on Red Hat Linux.
    I have a report that uses a post script barcode font, and i'm using the PDF Embed feature to incorporate this font in the reports.
    The problem is that everything works fine when the NLS_LANG is defined to AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1, the barcodes are showing correctly. But, when i set the NLS_LANG="BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE_BRAZIL.WE8ISO8859P1" only a small initial part of the barcodes is showed on the screen.
    I have to use this charset because my database is using it. With the AMERICAN charset the dates and other kind of stuff are showed in english.
    Resuming, i need to use the PDF Embed font with the charset defined to BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE_BRAZIL.WE8ISO8859P1.
    Is this some kind of bug??
    How can i solve this issue??
    Thank you all.

    Marcos,
    Experimente fazer a converso do valor para caracteres em ASCII conforme tabela do Bar Code 2/5.
    Voce associa a coluna de formula ao fonte bar25 i.. e dentro da funo vc converte cada par de caracter ao valor correspondente..
    Espero que te sirva...

    I've tried for several hours to use a embedded font without

    The easiest/cleanest way to embed fonts is in css code, try
    the following:
    <mx:Style>
    @font-face {
    src:url("work/ttf/KIMSHAND.TTF");
    fontFamily: myFont;
    flashType: true;
    .MyStyle {
    fontFamily: myFont;
    fontSize: 24;
    </mx:Style>
    <mx:Label styleName="MyStyle" text="HELLO WORLD"/>

  • OSX Japanese kana fonts not working.

    I am running the newest version of OSX (10.9.1) and the newest version of the Mac App Store Pixelmator (3.1). I enabled the Japanese keyboards in System Preferences, and have been typing with them. Now, in Pixelmator, I want to be able to type kana into text, which I can do, but I am having trouble getting kana fonts to work. I have installed several (one of which, http://www.graphicartsunit.com/gaupra/font_k.html) and installed them with the native Font Book application. I relaunched Pixelmator, selected my kana text, and selected one of the fonts I installed, and...nothing. Nothing changed. It would have been a noticable change because the font is very different than the default OSX one. I have been researching many forums (including this one) for a way to get the kana font to actually work, but to no avail. One thread on this forum that had an original poster who was having the same issue suggested that it is just a stylized A-Z font, but I do not see how that could be the case for all of the fonts I have downloaded, for they are listed as being a kana font. If this is indeed the issue, however, it would be appreciated if someone could direct me to a website that does indeed have fonts for legitimate kana.
    TL;DR, Japanese kana fonts I have downloaded are not working, even when typing kana with the OSX keyboard ("Kotoeri"). If I could have an easy fix, that would be greatly appreciated!

    I suspect that is in fact the case.  A good test is to see whether they work when you just type with the US layout active, not Kotoeri.  Or select English text and switch to your Kana font.  If so, then digitally you are not creating Japanese, but English made to look like Japanese.  I would recommend you avoid such things, unless the only end purpose is printing on paper or images or pdf, in which case they can be useful.
    I don't think real Japanese fonts are ever just "Kana," they are quite large and always include thousands of Kanji in addition to Hiragana and Katakana.
    OS X comes with a good number of real Japanese fonts already installed.  Do Edit > Special Characters, click on the gear wheel, select Customize and check the box for Japanese Kana to see the various options.

The message I get when I try to use a font I recently installed is "Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being intitalized." Most likely you have some corrupt fonts installed.
    Try validating the fonts using FontBook to find the most obvious problems.
