Completely erased iPod, still 3.3 GB of other!

I have a 4th gen, 8 GB iPod Touch, it's about two years old.
Over half my memory was being used by Other, so after trying all these different suggestions and failing, I restored it to factory settings. Everything has been erased and it still has 3.3 GB of Other. How do I fix this???

Have you restored it from backup or as a new device. Try restore as new.
Try another computer, also make sure you have the newest iTunes version.

  • In disk utility, after an erase of my HD, it still shows used file space. How do I completely erase the HD?

My computer wouldn't boot past the white screen and after trying a few things, I was able to find the original installation CD, hold C while turning the computer on and get into disk utility. I tried running a repair on the HD and it said the disk could not be repaired. I tried restoring from a backup, but about 20 min into the installation, I got a message saying the installation couldn't be completed.
I decided to try and just completely erase the HD from disk utility then try the installation again. However, after I try erasing the HD, it still shows there is used space, six folders and two files.
The HD I'm trying to erase looks like it's a partition under something called "250.06 GB toshiba mk2555gsxf media". Should I try erasing there? I'm not super tech savvy and I'm nervous to do more damage.

From what you wrote, your disk may be altered or dying. Diskutility shall give you full report after testing disk integrity, but it seems you'll have to change your hdd pretty soon.
Anyway, what you see as "250.06GB ... Media" is your physical hdd. Macintosh HD or any name your hdd have under MacOS is just a partition on this hdd.  But MacOS needs others hidden partitions for EFI and recovery, for instance, which take some space even if you don't see it.
If you really want an install from scratch, you may click on the Media line displaying your hdd, go to erase tab and write another partition table. Afterward, create a single partition and installa MacOS. If your disk is dammaged, it won't repair it.

  • Everything Gone.. iPod Completely Erased.. HOW?

I went to turn my iPod on today, and was shocked to find that everything had been completely erased somehow. Or, at least none of the songs are showing up. I recently updated iTunes, but I don't have iTunes set to sync automatically. I do everything manually. I thought maybe it had something to do with the new iTunes, but I have played my iPod, unplugged from my computer, since the last time having it plugged into the new iTunes. Then today, everything is magically not there. How is this possible?! Can I recover any of my songs, or do I have to go put them ALL back on via iTunes? What causes this? I'm pretty much dying here..

*Can I recover any of my songs...*
Yes, do a Sync from iTunes.
*...or do I have to go put them ALL back on via iTunes?*
Sure. Why is that a problem?
    *What causes this?*
Without having monitored everything that you've ever done with the iPod, that question is impossible to answer.

    lost/stolen
No app on the iPod is required.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected, on a computer browser go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police and school
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.
    - Apple will do nothing without a court order

  • Ipod somehow got completely erased

Today when I hooked up my i-Pod Nano to recharge the battery, I found a terrible suprise. My Ipod is completely erased, and I don't know how it happened. I listened to the thing this morning, and I NEVER clicked reset to original settings. All I did was hook the i-Pod to my computer and saw that it was all gone. Is there a customer service number I can call?

    Try Restoring the iPod.

  • Erased ipod

I have had a 120gb ipod for the last two years and I have not used it very often.  About a month ago I started having problems with it.  First it would stop short in the middle of a song.  Then it would skip songs and not play them when I would go back to them.   Then it would completely freeze and not work.  About a week ago it erased all of the songs on it and it was not connected to my laptop, it was just sitting on my dresser.  When I tried to sync it to itunes to put the songs back on, I get many error messages (-69, -1303, and others).  I have updated the ipod and itunes, but neither want to work anymore.  I really have no idea what is happening.  Any help would be appreciated.

If Windows recognised it, (ie you can see it in my Computer) there is a good chance of recovery, by using Chkdsk
go to DOS and type in
    chkdsk drive: /F
where drive: is the iPod drive ID either D: or E:
The above operation will try to fix any iPod filesystem error.
Then iTunes will pop up, or you may have to Reset iPod while still connected to the PC.
Antivirus has a tendency to freeze Itunes sync Operation with Ipod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your Ipod filesystem, so when iTunes cant read the iPod, it is pointing to this problem. Other causes is when your iPod hardisk is dying, or your battery is dying causing hardisk crashes, (back to the pre-Apple II days).
    My suggestion.
Connect your Ipod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after chkdsk complete.
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
    Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your Ipod to the PC
When Itunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
Sync your ipod, preferably manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well, since you got such a huge library.
When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected, start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.
Good Luck! and have a Nice Day!

  • I am going to sell my second generation ipod touch, so i resetted it to factory defaults. It said it would take up to an hour, and i patiently waited. But when the black and white loading bar completed, the ipod went to the black screen with an apple logo

I am going to sell my second generation ipod touch, so i resetted it to factory defaults. It said it would take up to an hour, and i patiently waited. But when the black and white loading bar completed, the ipod went to the black screen with an apple logo on it. Sounds about right, right? But now, there is a processing circle on top of the logo, but the circle spins once, and stops at about halfway to the bottom. It just stays there, and about every half to one hour it becomes a white screen and starts all over again. (not the loading bar part, just the circle). I've tried holding the power and the home button, and it works, but it just goes back to the circle screen with the apple logo. HELP PLEASE?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I hit update on my ipod touch to the ios 6. It uploaded it then has the picture to attch to itunes. I had to download the newest version of itunes to my computer. Now the ipod still has the "connect to itunes" It says I need to restore

You need a computer to do a restore.

  • Cannot recover ERASED ipod files

    1) i accidently erased my entire harddrive (by going to itunes and clicking something, like sync/erase all)
    2) i tried to recover my ipod through a program called "recover my ipod" and successfully got all the files i needed but once i recovered them, the mp3's didn't work (they are just sitting there in a large folder on my desktop, i think they are all corrupted? none the less i have the file sizes and file names of everything)
    3) my "recovered" files do not work....
how do i get them to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    i have ipod class 6th gen 80gb - model: A1238
    UGHHHHH SOO FRUSTRATED PLEASE SOMEONE

I'm not sure about the "erase" bit, or where you needed to "recover" the files from, but assuming that you have simply removed the contents from the iPod but they are still in the library; >>
connect the iPod to your computer and when the Summary screen shows up look for the *Sync only checked songs and videos* tick-box and make sure it has a tick in it but the *Manually manage music and videos* does not have a tick in the box. Then click on the Sync button which should put the contents back onto the iPod.
    What happens?

  • Need to reinstall Panther on a completely erased drive on my iMac... Help?

    Here's the history:
I had the SMART status failing notification but my drive was still working so I backed up all of its contents to an external hard drive.
I sent my iMac into the Apple store and had the drive completely replaced (under warranty).
When I got home, I started it up, but didn't want to go through the full reinstall and upgrade of the system. I tried to restore from my ext HD using Disk Utility – this required a complete erase and reformat of the drive. The restore didn't work since there wasn't enough space.
So I then used Carbon Copy Clone to create a disk image of the ext HD and tried to restore from the disk image to my iMac. That also didn't work because of disk space.
I then deleted some of the user documents to free up about 40GB of space to minimize the amount to clone. Instead of restoring from a disk image though, I restored through the backup in CCC. This worked, but when I went to reboot the iMac, it wouldn't. It got through the gears, but then went black and said there was no system. It went through 10 retries and then just stopped.
I am now trying to reinstall from the Mac OS X Install discs, but this isn't working either. I insert the disc, and hold down the "c" key to start up from it, I get to the select destination and the drive has a red exclamation warning on it saying the system can't be installed onto the drive.
    I'm completely out of answers
Any help would be greatly appreciated This is my workhorse computer for my design studio at home (I am self-employed) and I'm relying on a laptop for now.
    THANKS

  • Best way to completely erase internal HD in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger?

    Hi all-
I wanted to completely erase my hard drive and reinstall OS 10.4. In going through the process, I chose "erase and install" in the Installer utility, hoping it would do away with the multiple partitions I've made on to my Hard Drive. I also want to totally erase all my applications. After all that, I still have everything. I then tried to do the "Erase free space" or "Write with Zeroes" within Disk Utility and got some error saying it was not possible. So... would someone please tell me the quickest way to erase EVERYTHING (partitions included) ? I'd even be willing to buy some app. that would do it for me.
    THANKS!!

    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disk. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to APM then click on the OK button. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.

  • Need to completely erase hard drive

Hi everyone, I am upgrading to a new imac and am going to sell my old machine on ebay. I would like to know how I can completely erase all my data on the hard disk. Will disk utility get rid of everything? Besides the options in disk utility, is there any 3rd party software for mac that does a better job? Thanks a lot

If you use the Disk Utility to zero all data or otherwise overwrite the information contained on the drive multiple times, the information on it won't be easily recoverable; some organizations, such as the CIA, may still be able to get it back after multiple overwrites. The only way to be absolutely sure that the data can't be recovered is to remove the drive from the machine and either keep or destroy it; more information is available on this page.

Download this update: Mac OS X Update 10.4.4 Combo. Burn it to CD. When you are back home at your computer, Repair permissions(!), then copy the installer package to your local harddisk. Eject the CD and launch the installer package from your harddisk with a double-click.
