Completely frustrated...

I had originally wanted (and received) a PRS 950 with the idea that I would be able to download content from any source I chose that had a compatible format. Well as you know I was partially misguided - I can - from Sony - from any others ONLY when it is downloaded to a library program on a computer and then transferred via USB to the device. Not so quick or "user friendly".
Now, today I find out that not only must I jump through the above hoops, but OOPS, "mam, after testing it, your computer is not compatible with the Reader Library software" (shouldn't that statement be the other way around?). Yep, my "state of the art" MacBook cannot be used for my ereader library because it is, wait...64 bit. REALLY! This I could understand if my computer was "dated", but this is not an unusual computer configuration.
To top this off the cust. svc. agent had the nerve to suggest that it was an Apple problem and until they fixed it I would be unable to use my computer with my reader. I don't see where it is Apple's issue since Sony has the incompatible software and obviously hasn't rushed out to correct it for their Mac owning customers. They seem to forget that it's easier/cheaper to replace a reader than a laptop.
My husband has a Kindle that he payed over $100 less for AND he he hasn't had an issue yet AND he can play games AND well, he can't get content from outside vendors/libraries, but was having that worth all these other hassles...hmmm.

Totally disappointed with sony. The 1st reader i got in june of 2010 froze up 4 months after i got it and had to pay some 40 odd dollars to have a refurbished unit ( not a new one but refurbished one )sent to me as a replacement. Now the refurbished unit that i got some 2 and a half months ago fades out so that i cant read the script ,i have to shut it off and turn it on to be able to read then it happens again. it seems to happen more outdoors in sunlight than at home.
Guess what ..sony wants to send me another refurbished unit ?????why are we the consumers being thier testing division they should get the bugs out prior to selling the device and when a defect does show up find the problem and incorporate the fix in all units and stop screwing the people who buy thier product.Maybe i should have gotten a kindle or nook.

    I tried opening it from the application folder and nothing happens.   I have tried from the dock and the same thing.  Unfortunately this is not the application that I ws intending to work on.  This was running perfectly fine for me.  I have a lot of music on it.  I know all is still there because I can see it through spotify.  I started looking for help with Face time with came up with a needing proper credentials in order to open.  Now neither open after a 9 an automatic download of nine updates.  At this point I don't know what else to do.

    When iTunes/iPod sync process failed due to timeout, the iPod, has only the initilaised  filesytem structure at the start of the Sync.
    The timeout failure could be due to
    Bad hardisk - do the iPod disk diagnostic, refer to this excellent post by tt2
    Slow USB port or resource - Dont use any USB hub, disconnect all other USB devices while syncing
    Timeout due to Antivirus or other plugins - disconnect from Internet and stop the Antivirus or monitoribng software if you are syncing.
    Preferably stop doing other things while syncing this ancient device, which the latest iTunes designer, think will soon be extinct.

  • Completely frustrated with downloan not working and deleting and attempting to reinstall resulting in three different accounts on my computer and none working.

    I downloaded Firefox mobile to my Droid. Connected to computer and followed instructions, using code provided on phone. Did not work. I tried to re-sync phone. It didn't work. I deleted Firefox on phone and reinstalled app. The connected phone to computer to re-sync. Could not get anything to work using"I have an account" tab so opened up another sync account. It didn't work. I deleted app again and tried again and used a third sync account to sync phone with computer. I got nowhere. Completely frustrated with three sync accounts and none working.
    Need help to delete all accounts and start over. Can't seem to find a way to do this.

    I tried this (opening in Photoshop CS5 and resaving as jpg) as you mention:
    The remedy to this problem has usually been to open the image (the one that is having an identity crisis) in Photoshop or another image editor, and simply resave it. You don't need to edit it or rename it or anything--just open and resave.
    Re-imported and it does work fix (I get picture1 and picture2 instead of  just picture1 for all pictures).
    Having said that, I looked at all the file properties I could for:
    picture1.jpg (original)
    picture1.jpg (resaved in CS5)
    To see what changed. All are properties are identical (color depth, pixel size, etc.) except that resaved image is ~20% larger (I saved max file size jpg in CS5).
    So original is ~6MB
    resaved jpg is ~8MB
    So the question - why can't CS5 premiere import these directly (with resaving?) and what is working with the resave that locks up the first time?
    These pictures are straight from a Canon 50D, with no editing or resaving - dumped off camera to computer.  I can reproduce this error 100% of the time (new project, new folder, import 2 pics) so it isn't something goofy with the way I'm importing - 100% how premiere is handling this.
    Very disappointed that I now need to open/resave/rerender each of ~1100 images to simply use them.  Given that these jpgs are being produced by a mainstream camera with support image format.
    Any thoughts?

  • Completely frustrated by iBooks Author and iBooks

    I have been writing in iBooks Author for a while to produce a book. I loved what was shown by Apple as possibilities. My book contains a lot of diagrams, the source material are vector images (SVG or PDF). These images are sometimes large and are unreadable, unless the user can zoom in and pan/scroll around.
    Given that iOS is PDF-based and that HTML5 has SVG I assumed (mistakenly) that iBooks and iBooks Author would support resolution-independence vector images. Indeed, it will accept PDF often, but on creation of the .ibook, it produces low resolution bitmaps. There is no decent way to create image viewing that enables a user to look at a diagram that cannot be read on page size of an iPad2. Interactive Image will allow larger images (up to 4096pixels wide in landscape mode), but to let the user zoom you need fake viewpoints that point somewhere and in all, creating something where the user can pan/scroll/zoom is ugly and a pain.
    I have been looking at HTML5 widgets to see if one can get around this. But here too, iBooks Author seems not to allow SVG in those (just displays empty, so does iBooks Author kills the SVG on export from .iba to .ibooks?). SO, I hoped the standards of iOS (PDF and HTML5) woul dsolve any problem, but iBooks Author seems to make sure it does not work.
    I am so frustrated that I am close to giving up. iBooks Author and Ibooks need (for me):
    - handling vector-images (SVG and PDF) (come on, Apple, how can you be so slow with supporting resolution independence, especially given Retina iPads?)
    - the ability to let the user pan/scroll over large  images that can be zoomed in/out
    And I am not talking about stupid things like not being able to replace an image inside a picture element with a new image without losing the picture element and having to manually redo all the links to it.
    It has been more than a half year since Apple released iBooks Author. Unless I find a way to let the reader investigate larger diagrams, preferably interactive ones, e.g. created as a HTML5 widget with SVG objects in it, or unless Apple delivers a product with less problems bugs and such, my project needs to move away from iBooks.

    Thanks, but I am not going to try anything else. I have lost any trust in iBooks Author that I can get this right.
    First, it means buying Keynote just for this experiment and besides that means that my images all end up in a widget (I have many inlines now) which will also not be exported properly in PDF.
    I am unhappy enough that I have to buy Pages to save my project (if I had known this in advance, I would probably have written the book in TeX and try to find a decent paper publisher) and lose all the nice interaction ideas I had.
    If iBooks and iBooks Author still exist a year after I have finished my old fashioned book, maybe. So far, this looks like another beta-never-to-be-kept-alive-in-a-decent-way product attempt at Apple. Stuff gone like iWeb or iDVD (colleague bought his Mac, used iMove to create a Movie and wanted to create a DVD. Turns out he needs to shell out $99 for Roxio to do that. Not a happy camper).

  • Complete Frustration with these wireless products

    The problems are -
    Most of the time the type of security detected by the WPN111/windows in my PC is incorrect, it detects the opposite of whatever I have set in the Extreme, and when I try to change it in windows it just defaults back to the opposite setting.
    So If I have WEP in the extreme, windows wpn111 detects wpa-psk and when I change that to wpa-psk in the extreme, windows then says it's wep!!
    Of course yesterday when I had the extreme working for a spell, that wasn't an issue, this just came about after trying to setup the express.
    When I disable security the network connects and works fine...as soon as I enable security I have all these problems.
    When I read the manual that came with the setup utility it's like it's written for a different version of hardware. It talks about specific settings in the extreme utility that aren't there!
    Should I set 'distribute IP addresses' or not?...the fact that it connects with security disabled should indicate that I have the IP's set OK?>.....I disabled auto detect IP's in windows and entered them manually that was the only way I could get that to work.
    Should I set windows to handle my network or do it through netgear?
    None of this is explained in the documentation.
    This is a nightmare.
    I've setup 3 other wireless networks and nothing took longer than a couple hrs.

    Well I just have to vent.
    After two complete wasted days messing with the
    Extreme and Express, trying to replace a Netgear

    Yes, the WPN111 is a piece of crap. It is is well known that Netgear components such as the WPN111 work with Netgear routers, but forget it to get them to work with any of their competitors routers.
    This is a nightmare.
    Yes. That should be xpected. Get a reasonably priced PCMCIA card from other than Netgear or better yet get Vista It is supposed to work with your WPN111.

  • Airport Connection is completely frustrating...

    My iMac suddenly disconnected and obtained this 169.XX.XX... IP adress. I changed it, but it still doesn't want to connect. I've read sooooo many threads about this, and NOTHING. My windows laptops work completely fine, it's just the iMac. I have reset the modem and the imac like a 100 times. Deleted the airport network, created it again... etc. Could SOMEONE... PLEASE... help me out?

    That seems to happen when another wifi address is using the same address ie 192.168.0.9 and your iphone/laptop/ps3 is the same. Try setting a static IP.

  • A 730 HDMI-input - I am completely frustrated

    I bought a new Thinkpad A 730. Wanted to use it also as a second mionitor for my laptop via HDMI-input. If I plug the source to HDMI, there is a humming within the speakers.
    This occurs in all cases, if the PC ist ON or OFF, I tried also different sources to plug into HDMI-in. It also hums if there is nothing plugged and if I only choose the source on the monitor.
    The first MEDION-service made a software reset! Great!
    The second MEDION-service made a stress test and said the noise is within the specification.
    The third service said - there is not problem.
    But I cannot use the HDMI input at all!
    Lenovo will not take back the A730 and will not solve the problem.
    PLEASE HELP!

    And the humming is going from the speakers to the headphone if I plug in it.

  • Completely Frustrated With Nike Plus Sports Kits

    I've bought several Nike Plus Sports Kits recently and every single one of them has had a dead sensor in them. Either I'm buying them from retailers that have had these units on their shelves for years (ever since Nike Plus first rolled out), or there is some sort of defect with the majority of the sensors I've purchased. It's a real pain in the neck to keep having to take these kits back to where I bought them and try a different location to get a new one.
    I didn't have this problem when the program first rolled out years ago (when the batteries in these units were fresh), but lately I've lost all desire to even use Nike Plus and have resorted back to a good old fashioned pedometer.
    Any suggestions?

    I also have just bought 1 sensor (Fnac in Italy) and it seems with a dead battery. I have tried all possible options and followed instructions to connect to the new sensor, but never made it to connect with my iPod touch (2nd gen) or iPod Nano.
    I will return it tomorrow to the shop.

  • Completely frustrated with wysiwyg and font changes in published page

    H, Everyone--
    Can anyone help me? When I work in editing mode, I have
    selected font (and link) sizes and colors in the format - page
    properties menu. They are arial font, size 10, white. But when the
    page is published, the text is in a different font, and the links
    are blue.
    There is something overriding my choices, and I can't find
    what it is. I wonder if the previous web designer in our office set
    up something for the site.
    Advice greatly appreciated! I can't seem to find the answer
    to this question.

    That field is the font style field, not a "Paragraph" field. It just happens to be next to the button that changes the control panel to paragraph mode.
    Is the file you posted the same one you made the jpeg from, or the one where you changed that field to "regular"? I'm thinking the latter, because the paragraph shows regular when I highlight it. Also, I don't think the font in the jpeg has changed, just it is printing gibberish on that last line.
    Try this: File > Export and for type choose Interchange format (.inx). Open that file in InDesign and save again as an InDesign document. See if that prints.
    If not, I'd say it's almost certainly the driver.

    I have opened a paid for incident with Adobe, case #  182 433 774 , and am completely frustrated. I have spent 3 hours on the phone talking to people that have NO grasp on the english language, and no technical expertise. They say they don't know XML, but can help me. Days have gone by, and they claim that my problem has been escallated, yet they don't even have the details of the problem. This is clearly the worst tech support that I have ever encountered, even though we are talking about a $2,000 product. Isn't there any better tech support that I can buy?
    Does anyone know what support options I have to resolve and XML issue?  We are only able to render the first page of our XML driven catalog, then the job seems to complete without any complaint. We are using Indesign 5.0.

  • Don't know where to turn, completely turned off by Verizon Wireless

    Father's Day 2014, I walk into a Best Buy to get a new iPhone as my 4S was broken.  I upgrade to a 5s and I am told my plan of unlimited data will remain in tact.  To my surprise, at the end of that billing cycle I get a text saying I am about to surpass my family shared data plan of 3gb.  I make the first of 15 calls to Verizon to ask what happened.  I am told they no longer offer unlimited data.  They appease me by giving me a compliment gb of data.  The next month comes along and I realize this not acceptable for the data needs of myself and my wife.  I call back and they give me another complimentarry gb of data.  Later that month, a co-worker informed me of the Max plan where each user that had previously had unlimited data can be granted 6gb EACH.  I call Verizon back and I am told I did not take advantage of this in the 60 day window.  I said how can I if the option was never presented to me.  The associate agreed and submitted a request.  I called back weeks later to learn it was denied.  The new associate submits another request and suggests that he alter my plan to a lower plan in an effort to get approved.  I called back weeks later to learn it was denied again and my bill is now a mess.
    On my next call, a lovely woman helped me, she spoke to her manager who gave her a certain language to use in the request to get approved, considering the record shows I called several times during the 60 day window.  I called back weeks later to learn that was denied.  I escalate to a manger who reiterates the same 60 day nonsense but is very helpful in offering to call me back and text me when the FOURTH request is acted on.  He calls me back to tell me it was denied due to being outside the 60 day window...NO KIDDING, we've been over this.  I tell him I am taking my business elsewhere and that I do not expect to pay a ATE but he said that is not happening. 
    I have been a customer since 1998 (2004 as a family plan member).  I am shocked and appalled that I cannot be granted the Max plan even when it is clear I called several times during the 60 day window and it was not offered to me by several associates.
    I am completely frustrated because I do not want to go through the mess of leaving, getting a new phone and moving to a provider I have no experience with.
    Any suggestions from fellow customers or Verizon employees?

    I feel sorry for you, and your story is not uncommon.
    The lesson is educate yourself before any major purchase. Research online and in forums what is happening. That is what I do and so far that has worked out very well for me. I go into the store, or better yet, do it all online, knowing exactly what I want and what is available. Every other offer is a no. If it sounds good, I'll research it and not make a deal on the spot. Salesmen watch out for themselves first, the company second, and you third. They are taught how to sell you things you don't need.

    If you bought them on your iPad then they should have downloaded into the iPad's Videos app - is that where you are looking for them ?
    If they aren't there then have you tried searching for them via the iPad's spotlight search screen ? Pull down the centre of the home screen in iOS 7, swipe your first home screen to the right in iOS 6 and below.
    If that doesn't find them either, and they don't show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app for redownloading (films won't show there in all countries), then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support (these are user-to-user forums) : http://reportaproblem.apple.com

    I'm completely frustrated at last! It must be possible to install tomcat/apache correct but I'm not able to do so!
    New problem:
    I try to view a jsp with IE6 by selecting File\Open. If I choose the copy at '\tomcat\webapps\examples\WEB-INF\jspjbex4.jsp' suddenly Dreamweaver opens and show me the code of 'jbex4.jsp'. When I open a copy of jbex4.jsp located anywhere else on my computer the jsp is shown, but the problem is: No javabean-code is used although it is coded correctly.
    I guess the problem is with some classpath or something quite simillar. When I try to view the examples delivered by tomcat I've got the same problem: Whereever there should be output generated by java-code (e.g. by calling a method like <%= test.getDM() %>) there's nothing!!!!!
    So I checked if apache is working correctly. The test page is shown correctly. So the error must occure somewhere under tomcat. But when starting tomcat I receive no error message..
    Can anyone please help me?

    With tomcat 1.3.3 you place the xml file with the context mapping in the conf folder under the tomcat install directory. You must give the xml file a name that starts with "apps-" followed by something unique, followed by ".xml". So for examle apps-testapp.xml is good. Inside the xml file place the code I gave you above then restart tomcat. Make sure to change the docBase value to the directory that contains your WEB_INF folder and change the path to whatever you want. If the path is set to "/" then you would use the url http://www.yourdomain.com/yourjsp.jsp. If the path is set to "/TestApp" then you use the URL http://www.yourdomain.com/TestApp/yourjsp.jsp.
    For newer version of tomcat I am not sure exactly where the context mapping goes. Instead of in an apps-xyz.xml file it might go in tomcats server.xml file which should also be in the conf directory in the tomcat install directory.
    Each webapp has its own config file which should be at /WEB-INF/web.xml. Look on google or something about that. All your classes go in /WEB-INF/classes/package.name/class.class.
    Put your class files into packages!
    for you you should put your bean at /WEB-INF/classes/testpackage/JspTest.class.
    In the code for JspTest.java place "package testpackage;" at the top then recompile. In your JSP file use <jsp:useBean id="ex4" scope="session" class="testpackage.JspTest" />
