Completely lost Time capsule in Mavericks. How do I set it up again?

I haven't been able to do a Time Machine back-up since installing Mavericks. I've tried to troubleshoot using various solutions and just made it worse.
Using the airport utitlity I tried to update and eventually ended up deleting it completely.
Now I only have internet through my airport base station.
I need to reinstall/configure my time capsule and then figure out how to get my time machine back-ups going.
I did copy my documents to an externam harddrive but not the entire harddrive.
So how do I get my time capsule back through the airport utility and get Time Machine working again?
So far, so not impressed with Mavericks. Sorry I upgraded but now no choice in going back.

Now it's worse.
My airport is gone. I can only access the internet through an ethernet cable directly to my cable modem.
Airport says there is no configured time capsule available. I've tried connecting the time capsule to the laptop using an ethernet cable as I did for my first backup way back when and it still says there is nothing out there. Naturally it also says there is no wireless network available either.
This ****** me off. My Time Capsule was green and working perfectly except that it wouldn't back up. Now I've not only lost the ability to back up but I've lost my wireless network too.
Will a Mavericks update fix this?
Have I totally screwed my time capsule? Will I have to buy a new one even though my old one was working perfectly BEFORE the Mavericks install?
If I dump Mavericks and reinstall a previous operating system, do I have a chance of getting my Time Capsule back?

Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <--> ports on the back of the Sky router to the WAN (circle of dots icon) port on the back of the Time Capsule. This connection must be maintained at all times.
Then, using the setup "wizard" on your iMac illustrated below, configure the Time Capsule to create a wireless network that uses the exact same wireless network name and password that the Sky router is using.
You can get the setup wizard going in several different ways, but the simplest might be to click the WiFi icon at the top of the Mac's screen and then click on Time Capsule under the heading of New AirPort Base Station.
The wizard will open up and analyze the network, then the suggest the correct setup. The example below shows an older AirPort Express that is about to be setup in the same way. You will see a Time Capsule icon on your screen when you run the setup wizard.

  • How does one replace a lost Time Capsule power cord? thanks

how does one replace a lost Time Capsule power cord? thanks

It is a standard figure8 power cable.. any electronic retailer will stock them.
You will find it hard to get white.. they are all black.. you can ask at apple store or repairer.. I don't think it is sold as an accessory.. but a repair shop might have a few.

  • My time capsule is full, how do i backup to an external drive

My backups cannot be completed to time capsule because there is no longer enough available free space. How can I use my USB external HD to move stuff off of time capsule and start fresh?

You could use attach a larger USB drive to the Time Capsule and use AirPort Utility's "archive" function to copy the contents of the disk.  But there are a few more important things to consider.  First, under normal conditions Time Machine should delete old backups to make room for newer backups.  If that's not happening in your case, it could be that for some reason Time Machine is wanting to back up your entire drive.  See items C4, D3, and D4 if this Web page.  Second, are you putting anything else on the Time Capsule disk besides Time Machine backups?  If so, that's not a good idea.

new help with my mac air and airport extreme time capsule dont know how to save to time capsule and use as a external hd would like 2 store my home videos and pictures on the time machine (ONLY) as the MAC AIR has storage space limited space please help. THANK YOU.

See the info here about sharing or using the TC for data.

It is extremely important you realise.. the Time Capsule was never designed for this.
It is a backup target for Time Machine.. that is the software on the computer that does backups.. it has no direct connection to the Time Capsule.
It has no ability to back itself up.. unlike all other NAS in the market. It is therefore likely one day you will lose all your files unless you seriously work out how to backup.
The TC is slow to spin up the hard disk and fast to spin down. iTunes and iPhoto will continually lose connection to their respective libraries.
iPhoto in particular is easy to corrupt when you move photos over wireless into the library.. once corrupted all is corrupt. A single photo will ruin it all.. so backup is utterly essential.
Time Machine cannot do backups of network drives. ie the TC. You will need a different backup software like CCC. You will then need another target to backup to..

  • I copied files to my Time Capsule prior to my IT guy setting it up. Now I can't see my files.

    Hi,
I copied all my music files to my Time Capsule prior to my IT guy setting it up wirelessly. Now I can't see my files. He has set the security up as " User accounts". I tried to set it up as "disc password". Success, I could see the files but couldn't copy them back to my computer as it came up with couldn't access the Time Capsule. Now I can't see them at all.. In windows explorer the only thing you see is ".com.apple.airport.sharepoint". How can I get my files back?

Press reset and use the TC password not disk password for security.. and leave the password of the TC at default. You should be still able to access the files..
Did you copy the files to it from windows?
Make sure you turn on the guest account to full read and write access.
Make sure windows is in home network location.. not work or public.

  • Slow Time Capsule & Now Error when trying to set up

My first problem is that the Time Capsule is so much slower then the Airport Extreme. Web pages take ages and ages to load. It is very obvious. The apple store said it would be faster, but I am just not seeing it.
Now onto todays problem. Suddenly we could not print at all through the Time Capsule. I tried unplugging and plugging in everything again, restarting etc. Now the TC will not work at all. All it does is flash orange. I hit the restart button and have tried the Airport Utility. It keeps telling me it found problems and to hit continue to resolve but then says "an error occurred, please close the configuration window and try again". Keeps doing this. I plugged in AE and it is working like it always did, and it is so very nice to have the speed again. The TC is still flashing orange.

Did you ever get this "slow page load" issue resolved? I am having the same issue.

Do not setup a TC over wireless.. it is like sitting on the branch you are sawing off.
Plug it into the computer by ethernet.. press and hold the reset until the front LED flashes rapidly and start over.

  • I lost the lan ethernet connection of an older windows 7 pc to my 3 Terabyte router when adding a new local printer to the pc. How do i set this up again so the PC is recognized and can get to the internet again through the time capsule?

I recently added a new printer to a 2005 vintage PC that is running windows 7. It used to go through a router in my wifes upstairs office to the time capsule by wired ethernet (cat5) but when I added her new local printer thought I would network it, big mistaked, lost all my ethernet connection and she cannot get to the internet. Wireless not an option. How do i set up again the ethernet connection and i will only USB the printer locally this time for the windows pc?
Tried windows diagnostics, and besides telling me to reset everything and turn router off and on etc. I am in an endless loop.
Other Mac products are not impacted by this issue.

I see no direct connection.. a printer and the computer setup for internet are not related.
But it sounds like the router in the wife's office is now in the wrong mode..
If you have an existing main router replace the second router for a switch .. that is the easy way.
Otherwise you need to bridge the router if it has that option.. most do not. Or use wan bypass.. where you turn off the dhcp server in the router and fix its ip to match the range of the main router.. this is the hassle of using router as a switch.
BUT I am making a huge number of assumptions.
What I need is the full network layout.. a quick picture would help.
I need main modem.. main router.. (maybe same box or different).. make model and current IP address and how dhcp is setup.
I need secondary router.. if that is what it is, IP and settings.
I want the printer type and model. How it is connected.
BTW I much prefer to see a network printer plugged into the network rather than usb.. it is only a matter of sorting the IP settings and driver pointing to the network rather than local.
Or you should think of it as a broken washing machine and call the technician.. who could fix the whole lot in an hour.

  • Lost time capsule historical data after upgrading to Maverick. Can I recover the data?

When I enter the time machine, I can only see historical data for the past 10 days while I have historical data that goes back to August 2012. I can still back-up however. Maverick initiated a task on the time machine

Try all options except for the thumbnails.  If that fails:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • How do I backup multiple Macs to a time capsule with Mavericks?

I have 2 mac books needing to back up to a single time capsule.  I have heard the key to doing this is to limit the size of each mac book’s sparse bundle and then tell time machine not to resize the sparse bundle when it backs up.  I have tried a terminal command and using disk utility but neither seems to be working although I also can’t seem to figure out how to verify if my efforts have worked either.  Please help!

Hmmm it doesn't always work.. but as long as you keep track of it .. I doubt you will have major issues.
    A8 on setting Sparsebundle size.
Easy solution.. plug in USB drive into the TC, for one laptop.. and use internal disk for the other.. solved.

  • Lost time capsule disk

    Hello,
I was trying to make airport express allow me to connect to Sky anytime+.  Instead I have somehow lost the back up disk on my time capsule.  I watched some You tube jobs on making a bridge (?!) which at the time, five hours ago - seemed logical.  Up to today my time capsule worked beautifully but now I just have a flashing amber light and when I go to airport express it can't even find a disk.  Can anyone help me in but in dummy or idiot mode?  I am an absolute beginner when it comes to all the technical terms and a prat for even attempting to meddle in something I have no knowlege of.  Please help me!

    To the original poster,
so the internet comes into your place viat the Sky+ thing, which is supplying internet to your Time Capsule.  This is the way that it should be.  I remain confused about your reference to the Airport Express, but I don't think it really matters.  The Time Capsule is essentially the Airport Xtreme product for Wifi/Routing, plus a hard disk drive for backups...the software component on your computer may reference an Airport Express as being the Wifi/Routing part of your TC-just not sure why.
Back to your problems, you should verify that you are connected to your Time Capsule.  First lets check which WiFi connection you are using.  Click on the Airport Icon ))) at the top of your screen and make note of which wireless network name you are connected to.  Next, lets physically connect to the TC.  The easiest way to do this is to connect your computer to the back of the TC using an ethernet cable plugged into one of the ports on the back of the device-leave your WAN port plugged in to your Sky thing.
Next lets run your Airport Utility on the mac and locate your Time Capsule.  Use the MANUAL SETUP option to look into its configuration.  Click on the AIRPORT icon and then select WIRELESS and see what WiFi network name the TC is providing.  Does this one match the one you saw before?
If there is a mismatch then this should explain why you couldn't see your TC HDD.
Next, if you previously could see the Time Capsule Hard Disk Drive and it simply disappeared without making any changes to anything then I suppose it is possible that your TC's HDD died.  I think the easy way to check for this to connect to the TC as described above and continue using the AIRPORT UTILITY.  Go and click on DISKS and see if you can see a HDD listed under the heading TIME CAPSULE DISK.  If none show up then I think that says that your HDD died.
If your HDD is dead then it is fairly simple to replace.  You can also get a much larger disk than what you had previously and the cost should be well under $100 shipped to your door with the replacement taking only about 20 minutes and then several hours to get your initial Time Machine backup completed.
-please chime back with your results.

  • Time Capsule and Lightroom: how to suppress pictures ?

    Hello
I'm using my time capsule to stock my pictures. Previously they were in my Mac but the disk was full so I've transferred the prious years to the data volume on my TM.
Now when I want to delete pictures (from lightroom and from the disk) I have the folowing message: impossible because there is no trash on the disk. How can I do to be able to manage my catalogue ?
    Thanks for your help
    Eve

No not to sync up wirelessly, I bought my time capsule because my internal disk was full, I thought as it is an apple product I will avoid the issues I have with "usual" extrenal disk (after sleep mode connection lost, and sometime I'm unable to go to sleep mode because external disks are connected, the same if I want to cut off my mac first I need to eject manually the disks than to disconnect and than I can cut off ...)
But I though wrong Time capsule is only for time machine ...
If you know an external disk full apple operationnal please let me know !!!
Using time capsule with lightrrom: I transferred my pictures from the internal disk to the time capsule in a folder named "pictures" for example the 2011's folder
then I open LR: picture in 2011 are missing, I just indicate the new location of my folder.
I've never tried to use the folder with my ibook but as the LR catalogue is on my iMac it won't be OK
I am sorry to have given you false hopes !!
