Completely New to Adobe Photoshop

I have no prior knowledge of the software..  What is the best book to learn the software..  I have Elements 6.  What is the best way to learn and start up????

It is not clear if you are looking for help with Photoshop Elements or Photoshop. If you are looking for books to help you with Photoshop Elements, you'll reach the right audience if you post your question in the Photoshop Elements forum.  http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop_elements?view=discussions
If you want to learn Photoshop, I highly recommend the book Layers by Matt Kloskowski.  However, the right book depends on how you prefer to learn.  I like the previously mentioned book because it has short chapters, each demonstrating a technique that I can try out on my own photos. Some people recommend the Classroom in a Book series by Adobe Press as a good starting point for beginners. It is a good idea to study the reader reviews on a site like Amazon.com before buying a Photoshop book, so you can see the pros and cons of each book and can choose the one that suits your learning style and experience.
Many people find video trainings less tedious than using a book. There are loads of free trainings available on the Internet, but not all are suitable for beginners.  Training sites like Lynda.com or Kelbytraining.com offer subscription based trainings and it might be worthwhile for you to subscribe for a month (when you have a lot of time).  Kelbytraining.com is devoted to Photoshop and Photography, whereas Lynda.com covers many different products and technologies, including Photoshop Elements.
Good luck!

  • I am New to Adobe photoshop

    Hi this is Biplab,
hello friends/sir, I am new to adobe Photoshop. I don't have the basic knowledge of it. I want to create a beautiful logo and banner for my new blog
Dose it possible to create with Adobe Photoshop or I should learn Adobe Illustrator.
If there have some one who can create a logo and banner for my site please contact me. i will pay for it.
my email: [links removed by moderator]

Yes, Photoshop is fine for making your logo, site banner etc.  If you have any ideas on what you want to produce, rough it out with pen and paper, scan it and upload, and we can tell you how to proceed.
You've paid for the software.  You might as well learn how to use it.

  • I can't complete installation of Adobe Photoshop 11

I have been trying to install Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 & Premiere Elements 11 for several days with no success. My Photoshop installation is not completed & I can't seem to complete it. When I ask for help I get answers that are irrevelant. I found folders with thousands of my photo's from PE 4, but can't seem to access them as the installation of Photoshop 11 is incomplete. My Premiere Elements installation is completed in German which I don't speak. Wish I could talk to one of their so called experts but don't know how to contact one.

My suggestion, if I understand your predicament correctly, is to go to your programs list and completely unistall every version of elements that have on your computer, including the partially installed elements 11. It will not get rid of your pictures. Then, once all versions have been unistalled, try a brand new install with the CD, where it should allow you to chose the language at that time as well.

  • I'm new to Adobe, PhotoShop and Mac.

I downloaded the Adobe download assistant. It said that when it was downloaded, it would start the adobe download automatically.
It didn't. It just sat there in file form in a box, so I clicked on the knowledge link to see what was going on, and the box with the assistant vanished.
Where did it go? What do I do now? I paid for Adobe so that I could have Photo Shop, and now you have my money and I have nothing? A little
    help here, please.

We cannot know. Your description sounds vague and confusing. You need to provide system info and explain better. Based on what you said, I would guess you have issues with the download assistant, so start by reviewing this:

  • Uninstall Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 on Snow Leopard

How do I do a complete uninstall of Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.O on iMac and Snow Leopard 10.6.7? Can I do this via some feature within Mac OS?

    And, in general:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead.  Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Help, where are the render preferences in Adobe Photoshop CS6

Okay, I admitt, .... I am an idiot that is new to Adobe Photoshop.
But help the new girl out, here.... Please...
Where are the render preferences in Adobe Photoshop Extended CS6.
I searched Adobe Help in Dutch already but they point me towards options that doesn't excist.
Maybe they were there in Adobe CS5 and I am reading an older version of the documentation...
But in CS6 I can only find the option Render and no Render Preferences...
    Thanks !!

Adobe changed the way video is rendered in CS6. Adobe Media Encoder in now used in CS6 only a subset of the Adobe's full Adobe Media Encoder is included in CS6 is a dll. I do not think you can add new Rendering Presets however you can change some setting when you use the supplied Reddening Presets.  Perhaps if you have the Adobe suite and have the full Adobe Media Encoder you can create some presets and add them to Photoshop Rendering presets.  I seem some compliants about CS6 Quicktime rendering presets lack the power of CS5.  The Rendering presets seem to be stored in sub folders in "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Presets\Video\Adobe Media Encoder" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Presets\Video\Adobe Media Encoder"

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 searching for the update

I have new versions Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 .  System: Windows 7 64  bit.  How I am trying to check updates: bookmark of help/updating I receive the announcement: "the server doesn't correspond to the update.  A temporal unavailability of the server can be a cause or is going pale placed Internet options or the network dam. repeat the attempt later.  Code of the mistake: U41M1C212 ".  I have a permanent access to the Internet and I didn't have such problems from test version.  I am seeking the solution or the help.

    Hi,
This  issue with PSE10 appears only on Windows7  when WIFI and LAN internet connections are simultaneously available . On your  machine please check for the same . If both are there then set OFF any one of them , this will start providing the network connection and updating the PSE . Actually this is a Known issue with PSE10 and has been fixed for the higher version.
In worst case if this doesn't work then you can download update from given link and update your application. For PSE10 only one update for ACR is released.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Trial "Stopped working"

Hello all. I am new to adobe photoshop and was wondering if anyone could help me. I have finished downloading and installing Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 (the trial) and when I try to open a picture or do anything else I receive a pop up telling me Adobe Photoshop has stopped working. It them closes me out. I have tried several times and receive the same results. I noticed that a lot of people seem to have the same problem but I did not see a solution. I have contacted customer support and they told me to check the forums and that I would have to talk to a technical support team. I cannot find any answers nor the right customer support representative to help me.
If anyone has any idea how to fix this problem please let me know for my trial has already started and I do not wish to waste my trial days on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Deidra6655 for your first step to resolve your difficulties I would recommend downloading and running the Adobe Support Advisor.  It will review your installation log and attempt to locate the appropriate solution.

  • Adobe Photoshop Could not complete your request because of a program error

I brought home a Photoshop CC file from work to work on at home. It opened fine, other than some missing fonts which I then installed. I worked on the file for a while and then went to "Save As" a new version. I got a dialog box saying "Could not complete your request because of a program error." I tried "Save" instead of "Save As" and got the same result. I tried saving it to different locations, but I keep getting the same error message. I have been using Photoshop CC for almost a year now and have never had this problem. Does anyone have a fix?
The software is Adobe Photoshop CC v14.2.1 x64, and the OS is 10.7.4. Thanks to anyone who can help!

Did you reset your Preferences and Photoshop tools.  Photoshop Preferences are not removed with an un-install and an Install does not install preferences.  Preferences are created  for a user id when a user ID start Photoshop  and there are no preferences for the user ID.

  • Install Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 to a new computer error

I installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 in my computer before. Right now I'm not using that computer anymore and want to re-install the software to a new computer. I still have the redemption code but when I entered it, the software said it was redeemed by another ID before. Can you please provide me the download link or which ever way I can re-install the software to the new computer? Thank you.

The serial number that you received the first time you used the redemption code is what you need to complete this.  If you did not keep a record of it then you might be able to find it in your Adobe account online if you registered the software.  If not, I don't know what can be done since you probably didn't purchase it thru Adobe and they will not have any form of proof of purchase.
In case you need to contact Adobe support by chat:

  • Complicated- No original Adobe Photoshop Software Info for transferring to new computer...

Ok, so in 2009 my father bought me a new computer (Acer, PC) and had his personal tech guy add Adobe Photoshop. Unfortunately, he never informed me of the Photoshop software, nor did I receive the CD installation or any other form of documentation and so I only recently discovered the Photoshop software while trying to transfer files to my newer laptop (Dell, PC). Now I'm just trying to figure out what my options are for getting the software information and having it transferred to my new laptop without any of the installation software. The old laptop (Acer, PC) barely works but I can access Photoshop, so if there is info on it I can provide to help with helping me with this issue, please request. I apologize if this question is in one of the other help sections but I didn't see it. Thank you!

Thank you so much for your reply and help...wish I'd read it before using the Chat help. Just finished communications with someone through the Chat Help and had to disconnect to find the S/N. Now that I have it I can't seem to re start the open case Chat thing to finish getting the help I need. Regarding the info you gave me after stating I need the S/N I am completely lost and confused on. I have no idea how to figure out if its running in trial mode or if I'm the one it's licensed to. Though I'm pretty sure it's licensed to me. When I've tried registering PS on the older laptop it tells me its registered but when I look for it online it's not there. I shut down PS and reopen it and it asks me to go through the registration process again. Which I've done several times with no other results. I'm sorry, I'm new to all this and am at a loss as to how I'm supposed to proceed...

  • I have used Adobe Photoshop for some time and want to continue with it. Would I be wise to uninstall iphoto before installing adobe on my new Mac?

I have loaded about 100 pictures into iPhoto on my new Mac (old PC user) but now am certain that I want to continue with Adobe Photoshop which I have used for quite some time. Should I uninstall iPhoto completely as well as removing the IPhoto Library? Please tell me how best to proceed so as to avoid conflicts.
    Thanks,
    Jerry

I currently have Elements 9, but as I said I am a complete novice on the Mac.
When I bought the Mac, I had all of my photos already on an external hd for securitiy purposes, and have since moved them onto the Mac hard drive. I have not yet imported them into iPhoto, although, as I mentioned above I have loaded some pix into iPhoto from a camera just to see how it works. Also I have not yet installed Elements 9 on the Mac.
If I use IPhoto as the program to upload from the camera, do the photos go directly into iPhoto Library?
Does the library function the same as my storing them in My Pictures/My Documents, etc on a pc? Can I move pictures about within the iPhoto Library?
What is the advantage of using both programs simultaneously? If, as TeenTitan mentions above, I could put iPhoto back into the applications folder and not use it at all, and then use Elements 9 as the total package, what features, etc., would I lose?
If I choose to move iPhoto into the app folder, is it a simple matter or dragging it back? If not, how should I do it?
Thanks for your patience. I just want to get off to a clean start with my pictures.

  • My Adobe Photoshop looks completely different.  How did it change from what I am used to using?

My photoshop elements looks totally different from what I have been using.  How can I find the simplier version I am used to?

When did the version change to 10?   I used it in March and it was the one I was used to.  It was much simplier.  Is there another Adobe Photoshop besides Elements?

Hold down the CtrlShiftAlt keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen. After a few seconds release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it. Alternatively hold down the three keys whilst  clicking on the desktop icon for the Editor or PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe in the Programs folder. Keep holding down all three keys for a few seconds; then release. You should get the settings option. When you see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File? Click on Yes Then wait whilst Elements rebuilds the preferences.
