COMPLETELY Uninstalling Quicktime

I am having a lot of problems with quicktime. Safari is simply not playing half of the movies from on-line and the other half says I need quicktime 5 or higher. I have the latest v. of 7. I tried doing a spotlight for quicktime and deleting everything that came up and then reinstalling quicktime but nothing is working. Are there files I am missing?

Well I really messed up this time. I have used macs for about 15 years and last night I go desperate because I need to finish a project, and I started 'whacking' away pieces and messed up something in system because then finder stopped working. In a nutshell I just archived and reinstalled the system. And now I am up and running again.
Before the system reinstall, I think I did find a security issue though. I was having issues with the response of spotlight, so I did what I have done in the past, and deleted the pref. file for spotlight, restarted the computer and everything was working fine.
While searching for files with spotlight it was pulling up files in the OTHER user account. The permissions were set correctly and trying to access the files through finder proved to be futile, but right clicking 'show in finder' through spotlight brought every file in to plain view.
Do you know where to let apple know about this?

  • Completely uninstall Quicktime Pro 7 for Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit

I am trying to uninstall my Quicktime Pro 7 registration, and to not ever see it again in control panel (classic view).
Unfortunately, there is a visible registrationcode shown for Quicktime Pro 7(somehow, it simply detected that I had Final Cut Pro installed at one point and automatically registered).
I cannot figure out how delete Quicktime Pro, via the control panel and registry, and make it go away. Please advise.

thanks ... I see now from your other post that you're probably getting either a "missing QuickTime.msi" message or being told that a "newer version of QuickTime" is installed when you try to go ahead and uninstall QuickTime after you're told about the Key?
Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • After completely uninstalling iTunes and QuickTime, registry keys remain!

I have completely uninstalled iTunes and QuickTime from my PC (OS = XP Home) and deleted all folders and files associated with Apple, iTunes or QuickTime that were not removed during the normal uninstall procedure.
Also, I have cleaned my registry using Registry Mechanic. However, about 120 registry keys for iTunes and QuickTime stubbornly remain. I have tried to remove them several times, but on the next scan they are still there. Manual removal using Regedit also fails, resulting in the message:
"Cannot delete **: error while deleting key".
I don't understand how a program that has been completely deleted can still have registry traces. The offending keys (listed below) are in the Custom Controls section. How can I delete them?

  • ITunes won't open, even after complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes/Qktime

    Hello
This morning iTunes started refusing to open. When opened it bounces twice and then closes.
Strange, because I didn;t just update. It worked fine after my last update and up until the present. I'm not sure but it could have started happening after I plugged in my iPod Touch 16gb 2.0. I did that sometime this morning.
I did a complete uninstall/reinstall of both Itunes and Quicktime, and I also uninstalled Flip to Mac as I read here it could be related. Restarted my computer many times. Now, same problem, iTunes won't start.
I live in noisy Barcelona and i'm going crazy without tunes...

Update... so i backed up files from three folders shown below:
    'User'/AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/
    'User'/AppData/Local/Apple Computer/
'User'/Music/iTunes/(all files except music and app folders)
Then I uninstalled iTunes & Quicktime
    Restarted Machine
Reinstalled iTunes (which reinstalls Quicktime as well)
Opend iTunes to make sure it worked (it did), then closed it.
Copied all of the original files back over to their original locations.
    Restarted iTunes
Everything appears to be back to normal (iPhone sync works properly as well)
Hope this helps for anyone else seeking an answer!

Hi .  Ever since I downloaded the last itunes and quicktime update ( a week or so ago), I can't access any movies or video podcasts i have store in itunes on my pc (vista).  iTunes crashes and my error reports tell me it is a quicktime error.  Do i uninstall and reinstall quicktime, or completely uninstall itunes and reinstall it -- if so, what will i lose?  Help, please!

  • HELP cannot install itunes, uninstall itunes or uninstall quicktime

Hello - Went to upgrade my orig ver of itunes ver 6.0 to the video version to grab some music videos, and that is when all went to ****.
Got an error message that itunes was unable to install to my PC. PC is p4 running winXP sp2/3.
    Error code: -3
Went to uninstall itunes, and got another error message that itunes was unable to complete the task with NO error code.
Also went to uninstall quicktime, and apparently the uninstall is not on my computer. I reinstalled quicktime, which was successful, but after rebooting and then trying to uninstall quicktime again, i got same error message quicktime uninstall cannot be found, quicktime cannot be uninstalled.
I did manage to get itunes successfully uninstalled.
After reboot and clearing out temp files and cache then again rebooting, then attempting to reinstall itunes VER 6.0 just the plain version for windows, NOT the video version, i again got error message that itunes was unable to install on my PC.
    PLEASE HELP.
i cannot seem to load in a successful ver of itunes to listen to music, nor uninstall/install quicktime.
    FYI -
Quicktime will not work when opened through itunes and through start menu, but will work when opened in the program and actually clicking on the .exe button.
pls help! i just want regular ver of itunes without video now, just want to listen to music what i bought, thnx

YES it is a Windows 98 based software, since i was unable to find older ver of Quicktime, i used what i had.
Incidentally, i figured out that when i went to install the Video ver of itunes, the ver 6.0 did not completely uninstall, some files were somehow corrupted.
There is a round about fix located on the windows tech support section which deleted previous Windows installer programs that in turn deletes older versions of programs, you pick from a list that the program detects, and it will delete all older versions.
Here is the link, if you know anyone that needs it..
it fixed my PC, after using this program i was able to successfully install 1st- the standalone version of quicktime, then itunes without incident.

  • Can't upgrade iTunes... can't uninstall QuickTime

    Help!!
I've missed a couple of upgrades to iTunes, waiting to investigate the problem - error 1322, a portion of the path exceeds the maximum length allowed by the system.
Now I think I've isolated it. If I try and uninstall Quicktime (version 7.1) I get the same problem.
So I think uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime will help. But how do I do that - I can't get past the error.
Any experienced insights will be welcomed!
    Thank you

I just solved a similar problem by using "Windows Install Clean Up" to completely remove my old version of Quicktime. Be very careful using this program, since it removes programs from the Window's registry. You can download it from Microsoft's web site.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Be sure to carefully read all the instructions on the webpage before using the program.
Run the "Windows Install Clean Up" program.
Select Quicktime and remove it. Don't select anything else!
After this, try updating iTunes. I hope it works for you.

  • Problems Uninstalling Quicktime

For some reason, my computer will not allow me to uninstall Quicktime. I've completed the standard uninstallation procedures. I've even tried accessing the file through the C:drive and deleting it under Program Files and I was still unsuccessful. I got the Error 0x80070091. And the Uninstaller Error# was 2330 It also said the directory was not empty. I have no idea what to do at this point... Could someone please help me?

+And the Uninstaller Error# was 2330 It also said the directory was not empty.+
A 2330 on XP typically indicates file or folder damage on a PC. So, let's see if that holds true for Vista as well.
Go "Start > Computer". Right-click on "Local Disk C:" and select "properties". Click the "Tools" tab.
Click the "Check now" button in the "Error correction" section.
    Does that find/repair any damage?
If so, are you able to delete that directory and complete a QuickTime uninstall?

  • Trouble uninstalling quicktime

im trying to uninstall quicktime b/c my iTunes is messed up (i have to uninstall both iTunes and quicktime in order to fix the problem, according to other wall posts). When i try and uninstall this message comes up:
    Unhandled Exception
    error number: 0x80040707
description: DLL function call crashed: QTInstallCode.QuickTimeUnInstallProc
    Setup will now terminate.
    Please help!

I have exactly the same problem, i'm running a 32-bit version of Windows
right you are, iddymonkey ... if your 0x80040707 is referencing QTInstallCode.QuickTimeUnInstallProc (there's different possible texts you can get with different causes and potential treatments), let's proceed with the 32-bit procedures for that one.
    here's what we'll try first:
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions in the following document as a guide to a manual removal of leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1 Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention itunes 6
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • Uninstalling Quicktime Manually

I just jumped through a hundred hoops trying to get my iTunes to work again after an update. There was no error message, but there was a message that said an old version of Quicktime (7.0d.0) is installed and iTunes requires a newer version.
The problem was, that when I installed iTunes the newest version of Quicktime came with it and was installed the same time as iTunes.
So, writing over top of the older version did not work. I went to Add/Remove and Quicktime was not listed. I tried installing the stand alone version of Quicktime, but that did not work either.
There was no uninstaller in the Quicktime folder in Program Files either.
I did without Quicktime and iTunes until today, when again I tried to get them working. Neither of them would work after much work. I even tried manually deleting anything to do with either of them from the registry, but they still would not work, because somewhere in the regisrty an old version file for Quicktime was still registered.
I was going through my Start menu and burried deep inside several folders I found the only uninstaller for Quicktime on my system and ran it. That did it. It unregistered the old version allowing the new version to function.
This has happened to me before and I could not remember how I came across a fix.
In case this happens again, and while all this is fresh on my mind, I want instructions on how to properly do a manual uninstall of Quicktime, that I can stash away for a rainy day.

  • Cannot Uninstall Quicktime

I need help uninstalling Quicktime which will not uninstall using the standard Windows uninstall tools.
I have Quicktime installed under Windows 7. It installed OK, but when I try to run it the process starts then finishes with neither a window opening nor an error message. When I try to uninstall it via the control panels (as a prelude to a re-install) the uninstall operation gets near the end, then the installation is rolled-back leaving Quicktime installed.
How to I get this apparently cemented copy of Quicktime completely off my laptop?

Before I uninstalled it I got error messages saying Quicktime was not up-to-date, which started me down this path.
Okay ... They aren't classical versions of the symptoms (still, those change on a regular basis), but you're getting enough things going on here to make me suspect that some other application (other than QuickTime itself) has stashed old QuickTime componentry down in your system files. (That can cause QuickTime launch and install trouble, and also those "out-of-date" messages when launching iTunes.)
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
*If you have a 32-bit version of Windows,* open the "System32" folder.
*If you have a 64-bit version of Windows,* open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • I cannot uninstall Quicktime

Ok, so my iTunes was not working properly, so I decided to uninstall everything. I uninstalled iTunes just fine, but am having a really hard time uninstalling Quicktime. Everytime I try to uninstall the program, it will tell me that an error occured and the task cannot be completed. I tried going to the control panel, and this didn't work, and I tried just reinstalling and this doesn't work either. My quicktime isn't working and I can't get it off my computer. Any suggestions would be so much appreciated...I'm going on vactaion in three weeks and I'd love to have my iTunes up and running so I can update my iPod for my trip.
    Thanks
    JD

Ok, so thank you for your suggestion! I tried using the clean up Utility and it did allow me to uninstall the program, which is great! Now, on to the next issue. I tried reinstalling both quicktime and iTunes. It finally allowed me to reinstall Quicktime without any problems, but as soon as it was installed I went to run it and a Window's box came up that told me that the program encountered an error and needs to close. The same thing happens obviously when I try to open iTunes. So, since the error was immediate after installing the program, I'm guessing there is a glitch in the actual program. SO......I am wondering if maybe an older version of Quicktime may be the solution. Any suggestions? I've had older versions of Quicktime on this computer before and they ran just fine, so I wonder if installing an older version (where do I find one?) would solve the problem
    Ok, thanks in advance

  • HELP! - can't uninstall Quicktime!! Error - 0x80040707 !!

I can't uninstall quicktime and get the following error -
Error 0x80040707 Description DLL function call crashed QTInstallCode.QuickTimeUnInstallProc
    Can anyone help??

    hiya!
okay, in this context the 0x80040707 (citing the QuickTimeUnInstallProc) usually indicates that the installation configuration information for the QT on your PC has been corrupted.
download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility, and use it to clear away any existing QuickTime installation configuration information:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
... and then use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions on the following document as a guide for manual removal of left-over QT program files and folders:
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
once we've got the old QT scraped out of there, we'll try another standalone QT 7.0.4 install, taking a few additional explicit precautions.
download and save a copy of the standalone QT installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off all antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.0.4 Standalone Installer
does that install go through okay?
if it does go through okay, does your itunes launch again?

  • I can't install / uninstall Quicktime either! Please help

I've read all the posts on this subject and none of the advice has cured my problem. When I try to run the latest Quicktime install program (having uninstalled Quicktime earlier versions??) I have only 2 options - either Repair or Remove. So Quicktime still exists somewhere on my system? Both the options give the same result - a warning dialog with the following message. "The installer has encounted an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package The error code is 2356." Can someone help?

Thanks for the quick reply but I had tried all that already. To be sure though I just checked again. Windows Install cleanup reports no quicktime installation, there is no Quicktime folder in the C:\program files folder and the files are not present in the C:\Windows\system32 folder.
I also searched the entire PC and the files are not there at all. I also checked the QuickTimeInstallerF30.log located in my profile local settings\temp folder it shows the following:-
    === Logging started: 4/7/2007 23:35:25 ===
    Executing: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe" /i "{5E863175-E85D-44A6-8968-82507D34AE7F}"
    Returned: 1603
Also the log file MSIf6fea.LOG in the same folder shows:-
The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2356. The arguments are: QuickTime.cab, ,
    === Logging stopped: 07/04/2007 23:34:16 ===
I'm logged in as the administrator too.
Error message is still the same! The other point to note is that after the error message the install program then looks as though it reverses it first few steps that were completed before the error message.
