Complex workflow(s) using Oracle UCM

We are trying to explore if Oracle UCM Workflow can handle a complex article submission process which contains two main aspects/processes: the author submits a piece of content which kicks off a review process by editors. However, the author can evoke multiple actions at any time after content submission, i.e. modifying the metadata fields of the content, and such actions will impact the editor review process/workflow. So we are looking at two processes that interact with each other, and the author process does not follow any pre-defined steps in sequence, i.e. the author can choose action a, b, or c at will.
Another requirement is for the editor review workflow to have more control of email notifications, e.g. decide when the email notification should be sent using which email template.
Has anybody dealt with similar cases? Any ideas if the Oracle UCM is capable of doing this without substantial customization?
Thanks!

i am on a mobile device right now so the response will be short. the short answer is yes to both questions (is it possible and do you have experience doing it). UCM workflow can take metadada values and / or other derrived or injected values to trigger wf events and routing. this applies to email triggers and templates as well.

  • Implement Oracle UCM 11.11.5 Workflow (idoc scripting)

    Hi guys,
We are using Oracle UCM 11.1.1.5.
We have a 3 stages workflow. The stages are called as "Preparation", "Verification" and "Approval". We use Aliases. Users can be a members of many Aliases. But our requirement is a same user can't approve two subsequent steps. Lets say a user is member of all aliases. Hence he will be able to approve all stages of the workflow. But our requirement is the document who prepared should not be allowed to approve it in the verification stage. The system should throw a warning message. in the same way the person who approves in the verification stage should not be allowed to approve it in the "Approval" stage. Can we use idoc scripting to do that? Please give some idea and sample scripts to do this.
The question we have are how we can identify the previous stage approver and how we can display warning message on the screen when a same approver trying to approve again in the subsequent stages?
    Thanks in advance
    With Regards
    Jacob

  • How Indexing function in Oracle UCM 11g

    Hello All,
I am using Oracle UCM 11g on Windows platform.
I wanted to know as how the indexing in Oracle UCM Funtions? Here are few more questions related to this.
    1. If multiple language characters are added in document and if document is indexed, then
how the data (tokens) will be stored in Database?
    2. How the search will function

    Hi
    1. If multiple language characters are added in document and if document is indexed, then
    a. how the data (tokens) will be stored in Database?
This is stored in the DB tables IdcColl1 or IdcColl2 ( if DB FullText is search indexer engine) and table would be IdcText1 or IdcText2(if OracleTextSearch indexer is used) . It is these tables that store the entire data from the contents and they are referred to / queried when a FT search is invoked from UCM .
    b. how indexing will be done?
Indexer would extract all the data from the contents in case of FT indexer mechanism and would store them in the DB tables mentioned above . It is stored in BLOB columns where in the extraction process would do an insert for every content item that is being processed when Collection Rebuild Cycle / Automatic Update cycle is started .
    2. What is settings to be done in Oracle and search engine for this?
For DB the relevant UCM scripts need to be executed so that the correct role are created and the packages are created.
    3. What will be extra settings need to be done in case if the OS changes for example Linux.
The relevant libraries need to be checked to make sure that indexer can access them since there are lots of dependent libraries for the indexer process which is invoked by the TextExport process and these libraries vary for different OS . As part of the indexer process to be running fine all that needs to be done is to install/enable the OS specific versions of ContentAccess component on UCM .
Hope this gives an understanding on the Indexing part of UCM .
    Thanks
    Srinath

  • Oracle UCM (Stellant) CMS

    Hi All,
I need some explanation about Oracle UCM (Stellant) CMS and Personalization of web sites using WebLogic Server.
    Thanks,
    Venkata Sarvabatla

The following documentation can give you a primer on Personalization using WebLogic Portal. With WebLogic Portal 10.3, you can use Oracle UCM as the content server from which content is surfaced to portal users using the Personalizaiton capabilities.
Introduction to WebLogic Portal Pesonalization Capabilities:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13155_01/wlp/docs103/interaction/index.html
Introduction to the WebLogic Portal Virtual Content Repository Capabilities:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13155_01/wlp/docs103/cm/index.html
Information on integrating UCM with the WebLogic Protal VCR:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13155_01/wlp/docs103/ucm_adapter/index.html
The advantages of Oracle's UCM offering speak to themselves and you can read about them on the Oracle Technology Network site (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/content-management/ucm/index.html). With WebLogic Portal, UCM offers a highly scalable and feature rich content/document management system that can serve multiple usages within your enterprise.

  • Oracle UCM/ Large tiff/ Dynamic Word Viewer

    Hi,
    We have a situation here...
We are using Oracle UCM 10gR3. We have large tiffs(>10mb = 1000page tiffs) and we have dynamic microsoft documents. What would be the best document viewer to see these kind of documents?
Is there any viewer comes with INSO drivers plugin to see dynamic MS office documents?
Early reply is very helpful to me and it is greatly appreciated friends...
    Thanks...

    Hi,
I guess, during installation, you have provided as 127.0.0.1. Do you have entry in host file like (127.0.0.1 localhost).
Try by giving host name or IP address for HttpServerAddress in configuration file.

  • Linking Knowledge Directory to Oracle UCM

I have my Portal running in ALUI. I need to create a Knowledgebase – possibly external as this needs to be accessed by applications other than the portal as well – but I need to search/browse through this from the portal. The Search UI / inputs will be based on pre-determined properties of the documents / files in the Knowledgebase.
If I use Oracle UCM to create and manage this repository, could I use the ALUI's Knowledge Directory to point to these documents/content? The properties of the files defined in UCM should be fetched by the KD and used to build the KD Search and Browse interfaces.
If I already have the license for UCM, is this possible to do and a good way of doing it; or are there better options?

Oracle says in their 11g version roadmap that UCM will be more integrated to WCI. Even now, there is a content portlet suite provided in UCM which can be consumed in WCI via WSRP and this is officially supported by Oracle. (There are many other ways possible too as UCM is designed to integrate with portals)
Also I have read that there were several integration implemetations done between these two even years back when they were still in the Stellent and Plumtree avatars.
<Please verify this...! :)> Definitely UCM is going to strenghten WCI but then I guess the commercially, this is going to be very expensive. Unlike WebLogic portal, WCI is not going to be offered stand-alone anymore and you need to get it along with the complete WebCenter suite. that Plus UCM cost.. hmmmm..

  • Indexing problem in Oracle UCM

    Hi,
I am using Oracle UCM repository with Weblogic portal.
When i do re-indexing through UCM console error comes 'Unable to index metadata only. This may indicate the collection is damaged.Indexing is aborted'.
Can anybody please tell any solution for this.

    Hi
I believe that you might have changed your indexer from metadata to fulltext or OTS and then rebuilding the index is giving you problems. See Metalink Note :     Note.748186.1 for issue when one is changing indexer from Metadata to FullText .
In case you are moving to OTS then the only thing needed that needs to be changed in the Note is instead of using IdcColl2 put ots1/ots2 and then save it , restart the CS , rebuild the collection and see if the issue persists.
    Hope this helps

  • Custom Workflow using Oracle Workflow in ContentDB

    Hi,
Could we use custom workflow which is made using Oracle Workflow instead of BPEL.
    Regards,
    Yulisar

Having registered custom workflows for Content DB via Enterprise Manager, potentially you can use any tool capable of dequeuing/enqueing messages from the IFS_BPEL_OUT/IFS_BPEL_IN advanced queues as part of a custom workflow process.
By default, we assume you are using Oracle BPEL PM with its Advanced Queue adapater to process the queue messages. However, there is nothing stopping using Oracle Workflow or any tool for that matter.
HOWEVER!!! Warning!!! There is a high probability that Content DB will drop the bundled Oracle Worflow installation in the near future. What this means, is that you should consider installing/configure/patching your own separate Oracle Workflow installation and not rely on the bundled Content DB solution which is used internally for Serial and Parallel Approval workflows.
    thanks,
    Matt.
