Compliation albums displaying as individual artists

I have imported a couple of complation albums (Very best of Later With Jools Holland Disc 1 and Disc 2 e.g.) but on the scrolling display in itunes it displayes an individual 'icon' for each artist in the compilation e.g. one for Adele, one for Kings of Leon etc. I'd like them to just be displayed as one album/one icon. How do you do this?

Hi Heywogr
OK this happens when I think the CD is marked as a compilation. iTunes has a setting that reads Part of a Compilation. This setting is under Options when you select multiple songs, or on the Info tab when you select a single song. By choosing No, or unchecking this option it will deal with the CD as a single CD even though the songs come for multiple artists.
Try re-ripping the CD and choosing No for the Part of a Compilation option, and you will see that iTunes put all the songs in a single folder that has the name you chose for it.
Hope this helps

  • How do i print a list of albums i have on itunes? i don't want individual artists, just the album

the problem as far as i can see is that if i have an album of say ministry of sound with 48 + artists, itunes wants to print the album with each individual artist listed under. So instead of Ministry of sound volume 1, i get Ministry of sound volume 1 (Moby), Ministry of sound volume 1 (Air), etc etc. All i want is Ministry of sound volume , then Ministry of sound volume 2 etc. This also happens if for example i print Aarron Nevile Best of. if he is in collaboration with another artist i get Aarron Nevile and Linda Ronstadt. THERE MUST BE AN EASY WAY!!!!! it also cuts down on the number of trees i'm using.....

Me again. I'v ejust discovered that because itunes forces me to print each individual song, I am up for 500+ pages. This is a bloody joke. All i want is to print the artist and the album. Nothing else. No individual songs, no artist collabartions. Just the album and artist. HELP!!!!

  • Turned "Sort by Album Artist" off on iPod Touch 5th Gen so individual artists on compilation albums will show up separately under "Artists" with no succuss.  This worked perfectly on my Ipod Touch 4th Gen.  Any Advice?

I have a 5th Gen iPod Touch.  It is running the latest iOS, and iTunes has the latest update.  I have many compilation albums that I imported from CD.  I want the individual artists and their associated song(s) to show up under "Artists."  I have turned off "Sort by Album Artist" in Settings.  This worked perfectly on my 4th Gen Touch.  Each artist from a compilation would show up under "Artists" with the correct song(s) showing, while still showing the whole compilation under "Albums."  Now, on my 5th Gen Touch, when I try to look at an artist from a compilation under "Artists,"  I get one of the following:  the correct artist and song, an incorrect artist and song, or an incorrect artist with the entire compilation album showing up.  Is this a bug in the new iOS 7, or am I doing something wrong?  Anyone else with this problem?  Any advice?

I have the same problem and I have been really trying hard to find a solution.  No success.
My main problem is this:  For example:  Top Gun soundtrack - I look at Kenny Loggins under artists and I see his albums and songs, plus the 2 songs from top gun.  Then when I look at Miami Sound Machine (also on top gun cd) under artist, I see correct albums from Miami sound machine, but under the top gun soundtrack, it shows the 2 kenny loggins songs instead.  then if I look at another artist from top gun cd, it continues to show the kenny loggins songs.  It doesn't matter which songs i look at, but the first one i start with will always show up on the others.  Funny thing is, if I click on the song, the correct song plays, it just says it is the kenny loggins song!!!  ha ha.   Been dealing with this for over a year now.  Pretty aggravating.   Happens whether I have compilations checked or unchecked on settings.   I have over 50 compilation albums and some are checked, some aren't...they all behave this way.
On Mac, itunes (v 12) it all shows up correctly and works fine.  I have become an expert on ID tags and am very thorough with my tagging.  HAND TAGGING, not some program that does it for you...they are never correct.  I match all my tag info with the info in the iTunes store for each album so it is sure to match.  Has taken a long, long, long time.
Love iTunes match, but this one issue is a real pain.  Anyone with any ideas, I'd love to hear them!  Thanks!

  • View individual artists in compilation albums?

    Hello,
I have an issue that has been bugging me for a while. I can't seem to set up my music collection so that when opening a compilation album on my ipad it shows a list of songs on the compilation album along with the artist of each song.
In itunes on my computer it displays as expected - the song name appears with the artist below it in the compilations album. See below:
When synced to my ipad and clicking on the same compilation album it displays without the artist name. See below:
Note also that the album artist name below the album thumbnail is one of the track artists.
The settings for this album in itunes on my mac are:
Each song has their artist name and song name completed.
    Album artist is left blank
    Compilation is ticked.
This results in the correct display in itunes on the computer, but not on the ipad.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks for any help

Typically, after posting my question I stumbled across a solution that almost solves my problem, but not completely.
I completely closed the music app on the ipad then reopened it and all the artists did appear under their track names in compilations.
I have added various artists under the album artist too.
The only problem that remains is rather than displaying "Various Artists" under the thumbnail in picture 2 above, it shows a random artist name.
Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

  • I have 7 or 8 albums under "various artists" how do I break the albums out? individually?

I somehow have 7 or 8 albums listed under "various artists" and I want them to stand alone, how do I "break them out"?

Give each album its own common artist and set part of a compliation to no.

  • Same album name by different artists

    Hi Everyone,
Im having an issue that I have 3 x 'Greatest Hits' albums by 3 different artists. The problem is that on my 160gig Classic the menu shows each of the albums individually when scrolling through the 'artist' menu. However when scrolling through the 'album' menu the songs for all 3 'Greatest Hits' albums appear under 1 heading. They are not selected as being a compliation on either itunes or on the ipod directly. Is there any way to seperate them without changing the album names? Please Help!

  • Album display shows same album many times

Just installed iTunes 8 and switched to Album display. Display now shows same album many times. Each time is for a different song. Occurs on compilation CD that has many artists, showing one for each artist. Example: Top Gun Soundtrack
How do you consolidate to only show album once?
How do you get the album cover for one of these compilation cd's? comes back and says Artwork can't be found

Have you had a look at this troubleshooting page? It may be of some help: Why aren't songs with the same album art grouped together

  • The selections for synching music or artists no longer scrolls, so I can't select individual artists beyond the first few artists. How do I enable scrolling again?

The ability to scroll through individual artists or albums and select certain ones to synch no longer scrolls, so I am unable to select any but th first few. This feature used to scroll. The problem it creates is I don't have enough storage to synch the entire music library, but now can't select certain artists to synch. I have updated to the lastest version of iTunes and it didn't help.

I am using windows Vista and having this problem also (not exactly, but iTunes gives pop-up that "files are in use"). Acting a suggestion from another answer in this thread, I clicked on Computer and selected eject...windows did warn me that the device was in use, but also gave me a CONTINUE button, which I clicked and it was ejected...had to go back to iTunes and eject the iPod there also, but it did eject

  • Help with album display

Is it possible to restrict the text at the bottom of the album display to artist name only?

    mike c 26530 wrote:
Is there a better way to keep everything seperated?
Yes, rename the albums as *"Greatest Hits, (<artist one>)"* and *"Greatest Hits, (<artist two>)".* Then each album will have a unique name. If you attempt your method, it will give you much bigger headaches!
By the way, when you rename a "single-artist" greatest hits album have a look on the Options tab and make sure that the tick-box for *Part of a compilation* is set as No. If compilations is set to "yes" the artist may not show up on your artist list on the iPod.
For instance, The album "The Whole Story" by Kate Bush is a compilation of tracks from her other albums, but if marked as compilation (which it is when iTunes looks it up), she will not show up on the artist list unless I have another album of hers. In "Apple World" a compilation album is one with tracks from different artists and those albums should be set to compilation-yes.
    I hope that helps.

  • Why are albums that have various artists appearing as separate albums for each track?

why are albums that have various artists appearing as separate albums for each track?

Check the tags via the info panel on each system.
You may see that one version has settings for 'Disk x of y' disks.
There are other fields that should be compared too, like 'grouping'. You also need to be certain the playlist (or the Library) are sorted by the same criteria e.g. by 'album' is different to 'album by artist' etc. That can cause unexpected differences in the way it displays.
I suspect match has given you iTunes copies of the files with Apple's own metadata whilst your originals are from CD with your custom tags.

  • Album Artwork switched between artists, help please?

For some reason, recently my iPod has been switching around the album artwork from different artists. i.e. for "life in the fast lane" by "the eagles" from the album "**** freezes over" it now displays the album artwork for "the who: ultimate collection", also "hotel california" from the same album now displays some strange picture of random pixels, something you would see maybe if you stuck a magnet to a computer moniter, but I dont have any artwork that looks like that. This has happened to many of my songs, several of my songs by "the monkees" now display "the beach boys, sounds of summer" artwork. However, on itunes, all the pictures are correctly associated with the proper album. Whats wrong?
      Windows XP

Thank you, I suppose I knew that would work in the beginning but it takes a long long time to re-sync all my songs and videos so I guess I was looking for a shorter way, nevertheless, "Life in the Fast Lane" no longer displays the artwork for "The Who: Ultimate Collection."

  • Deleting an album deletes the whole artist 10.2.2

I deleted a single album in the Albums pane and the entire folder on my NAS disk was deleted including all other Albums by the same Artist. iTunes 10.2.2 still lists the albums but the actual files have been deleted.
Is this a bug in iTunes or a NAS problem?

Thanks rp0428, this is very helpful. Stats are all up to date. I hadn't realized that validating the implicit constraint after modifying a column to NOT NULL ENABLE NOVALIDATE would cause the table definition to show the NOT NULL as we need.
Unfortunately the single validate still won't run in parallel for me even with the alter session/table commands you listed... but, I can run multiple validations in separate sessions and they don't block each other or table access by other sessions.
I would still prefer to make each individual validate statement run in parallel within a session, but I think this gives me something to work with.
    Thanks again!

  • Can you arrange songs alphabetically within each individual artist?

When you select music in the larger file it organizing all songs alphabetically, but when you go under each individual artist, the songs are not alphabetical. How can I change this so my 500 Grateful Dead tunes are easier to find?

I guess the only real way to achieve this is to go through Album view and search for the artist in the top right....dissapointed

  • What determines the default album pic for the "Artist" box?

In iTunes, if you sort by Artist, and go to the "box view" so that each artist is depicted by a box.
    See image here: http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/7840/48571715.jpg
If an artist has multiple albums, what determines the default album shown in their Artist box? I've noticed it's not alphabetic... Does anybody know??

It seems to be the most recently added. I could be wrong - I didn't check all my stuff, but the couple I looked at, the most recently added album is what's displayed.

  • How do I get the itunes stored files on my computer to store by album name not by artist?

How can I get itunes to store my computer music files by album name not by artist? It's a pain retreving a stored album from my external drive.

Are you sure to have the full length file in the library? If you start playing it, will it show the full runtime on the controls?
