Complicated Masking always freezes up program???

Hey I've been working on a 4 or 5 second shot with 3 complicated masks masking the movement of 3 people frame by frame. Usually after 10 minutes of working I'll move one of the vector points, and the point will move but what is visually being masked won't apply. this is when I know i gets frozen up a bit. then the color wheel comes on for 10-15 seconds. Now ever vector I move after that does the same thing with the pinwheel. The only way to stop it I save it and reopen it and get 10 more minutes of work in. I'm working on a new mac pro 3.0 dual quad with 6 of memory so I don't think thats an issue.

Does anyone have any ideas to avoid this, it's slowing up my productivity quite a bit. I have also changed the cache yield in to 90 sometimes 100 percent. Am I missing something here?

Well, I took a look at your project - lotta work there - first thing I can say is you didn't take ThatChineseYouth's recommend, which I'll repeat here -
There are ways to improve Motion's interactive performance.
1) If you're using Ram Preview, clear it periodically.
2) Keep your render quality at Draft or Good until the very end.
3) Text is especially draining of resources in Motion 3. Turn off layers you've finished with to improve performance while you work in other areas.
4) Definitely turn off Timeline and Layer thumbnails.
5) Don't have any layer selected when playing - the thumbnail for the Inspector Tab has to be generated when you stop.
Notably, you didn't turn off thumbnails. You might try running activity monitor to see if your ram is being eaten up - when I ran it, just loading the project took a gig of ram away... and I believe you're using HDV clips? Not sure it would have any effect, but you might try exporting your HDV file as a ProRes and linking to that.

Loathe iTunes...always freezing!

I absolutely hate iTunes! I've never been able to smoothly run the darn program, EVER! It always freezes on the first try, and it takes at least 3 tries to get it going without freezing and sometimes still doesn't recognize my iPod is even connected. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling/updating/starting without iPod connected, etc, etc...
I have no problems with any other programs, my PC is rather new (Windows 7, up to date).
I try to use other media programs when I can (MusicBee, WMP, etc), because iTunes is so frustrating. Really, they need to think of a better way to do this, scrap the whole program altogether and start over. And make it more user friendly while they're at it, because iTunes is anything BUT.
Until they start listening to their users and we're all forced to endure this crap program, does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it at least stop freezing up????

I have files that freeze my programs whenever I try to open ANY file. Is there a way to find the exact files causing the crash?

I have files that are freezing my programs (adobe; after effect and photoshop, as well as maxon cinema 4d). Whenever I try to import ANY file from within the program it doen't even let me select the file I need before freezing. I have moved all files off my desktop and into my dropbox, and it now allows me to import files/search for files on the desktop but NOT dropbox, once I go to dropbox it freezes again. I am assuming there are files within dropbox now that are crashing my programs. The problem is I have a lot of files in there and would like to remove the corrupt ones so that I can use my programs without freezing. Is there a way to find the exact files causing the crash?
This has happened a couple of times and each time I have to move all my files off my desktop, so there must be a type of file doing this, I just don't know what files they are.

This error sounds to me like you have/had BootCamp Windows installed and then removed, posible ?
If so (and even if not so), try restating your MBA while holding down the alt/option-key until you get to the Boot Selection Screen.
Choose to boot OSX.
Once in OSX go to System Preferences then Startup Volume and set your OSX to be the default.

Something doesn't sound right here. You say you have been using the MBP for 5 months and your profile say you are running 10.4.10. A MBP bought five months ago should have Snow Leopard 10.6. Of did you get this MBP used five months ago? Before we can help you must tell the straight story.

It was a display driver. All I needed to do was to boot from the CD again and following the directions in the post.
Worked like a charm.

Try completely removing and reinstalling iTunes and all related components; you may need to do this multiple times. It won't normally affect the iTunes library, but that should be backed up anyway.

W530 print dialog freezes the program

Hi,
For the past two days I have encountered strange issues.
I am trying to print out documents or images either from MS word, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe acrobat reader or Firefox. No matter which program I use, the moment I click print, the program freezes without bringing up the printing dialog box. I am unable to figure out the issue.
I have additional issues with MS office where certain functions freeze the program from time to time. For example, when I try to change the font type or size, the program would freeze. This requires me to try a couple of restarts or a fresh reinstall of the program. I believe these are bugs relating to my laptop as the same programs (from the same discs) are installed on my home desktop and they work flawlessly.
FYI, I have made the following changes to my W530
1. I have replaced the original 500GB 7200RPM primary hard disk with 240GB OCZ Vertex4 SSD. The 500GB hard disk has been moved to the CD ROM bay to serve as a 2nd HDD.
2. I have increased the RAM to 16 GB.
Apart from these changes it retains the original settings. It runs a Windows 7 64 bit OS.
Any help to solve this issue is gratefully acknowledged

To narrow down the list of possible issues, it may be a good idea to boot the system into Safe Mode and try the same steps as before and see if the issue still occurs. The printers will not load in safe mode, so you would not be able to print to them anyway. But I am curious to see if the print dialog will still make the computer hang.
To boot into safe mode, either restart your computer or start from a cold boot. Begin tapping F8 at the splash screen and continue to tap the button until a menu appears. One of the options on this menu should be Safe Mode with Networking. Select this option and the computer will boot. Some features are removed from Safe Mode, so the display will likely look very different, but it is normal. Run the steps in this mode and see what happens.

AffineTransform freezes my program

I wrote a 2d program that simulates a bunch of rabbits, who run around the screen reproduce etc. When the rabbits move higher up on the screen they are scaled smaller to give a sort of perspective look. I have 3 images for left animation, 3 for up, 3 for down. When the rabbits are facing right, I scale them with a negative x value which flips the image around the vertical.
This all used to work perfectly fine until about a year ago when I got a later version of Java (can't remember which one, kind of gave up until now).
The problem seems to occur when the rabbits face left. They can run that way for a while (time varies), but then suddenly their images start repeating themselves in a row, horizontally, and then the program freezes.
So weird!

Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

You can see which apps are open and/or recently used by double-clicking the home button to bring up the taskbar at the bottom of the screen (not all apps that appear there are active) - you can then close apps on it by pressing and holding one of them for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar. If you have an app 'open' on-screen then it won't appear on the taskbar, you will need to go back to the homescreen first, and it should then show when you next open the taskbar.

Ask for refund for upgrading to lion, since lion always freezes at start up.

I want to know if I can get a refund for upgrading to lion. I have been really frustrated with this upgrade. Ever since the upgrade, I have not been able to start up normally. It always freezes at start up. I don't want to waste my time on fixing this issue any more.

Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions. If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.
After seeing what you have to do to return to Snow Leopard you might rethink your position of not wanting to fix the problem you have with Lion which probably arose from existing problems with your Snow Leopard system. The fix is pretty easy. Back up your data, erase the drive, reinstall Lion, restore your files.
Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.

You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

Hey, so I need help.
My MacBook Pro always freezes but not totally freezes, like, you can move the cursor around and everything but you can't click on anything. It has this color wheel something and it is reaaally driving me crazy.
I've had this macbook for about 2 years now and this is not the first time it happened. It happened like months ago, and then I thought maybe I should reformat it because it was sooo slow and terrible. Back then, my macbook is worthless because it takes half an hour to open and then when I type in my password, it begins to freeze. It takes like 20 minutes to unfreeze and then when I click on anything it freezes again. It even freezes when I'm doing simple tasks like typing, opening a folder, backspacing, dragging icons, etc. I can't even open an internet browser or an application! So I took my macbook to a professional and then he said that I should reformat my macbook, and so I did.
I was happy because everything was back to normal but a week later, it slowed down. I didn't mind it though because I can still use it and everything. But it came to this point again where simple tasks take a 2-minute freeze first! It's really driving me crazy and I don't want to make it worse. I need to know what was really the problem behind this!
I tried uninstalling a few applications including chrome. Right now I'm using Safari because I was told it uses less memory than Chrome. Nothing happened. It still freezes, I can't even research properly because everytime I use it, it freezes!
Please help! I'm not a computer expert so I need all the help I can get. I don't want to spend a lot of money again on professionals!
