Complicated question....

Hi all,
I have an issue with my Apple mail account that I'm hoping someone can help with. I have spoken to Apple, who seem unable and unwilling to help, which has been a huge disappointment. I shall do my best to explain the issue as best as I can.
I have had my Apple ID for years and my .mac account was updated to .me and now it is iCloud. Over the years I set up 3 aliases on my mail account. In mail on my MacBook, I have the choice of using either the .mac or .me version of my mail accounts, including all my aliases.
Now, on my iPad, which was set up on my MacBook and is regularly synced with, the .mac and .me version of my mail accounts is available from all accounts, including my aliases, EXCEPT for my primary Apple ID, which only offers the .mac option for sending mail from. In other words, from my iPad, I am unable to use the .me version of my primary Apple ID.
I have deleted account and restored. I have set up the account by signing in using the .me version, but no change.
Is there anyone who can help with this and tell me why this is happening and is there anything I can do? Please, please, please help as its driving me mad and Apple can't help! Most of the time, they don't even understand what I mean!

  • Complicated Question...HELP!

    I know this is annoying, but here's a complicated question. I first made several slideshows (30 slides each) in Keynote. Then, I exported into Quicktime Pro. Then, I used iMovie to edit it.
    Next, I bought an external drive for keeping my VERY large imovie file. When I tried to transfer my HUGE imovie file, it wouldn't transfer because it was too big. I know I can't reformat the drive, so I thought I'd be clever and create a NEW imovie and save it in the new drive...then, I would copy the original HUGE imovie into the new one, piece by piece.
    I did manage to copy a lot of it, but when I tried to copy the last couple of large pieces, it didn't go. It said there was an unknown error of some kind. I am stumped.
    I even tried to take the original QT file and import it again into the new imovie, but that didn't take either. Next I'm going to try to export my original Keynote file into QT again and then try it in my new imovie...again.
    Sorry for being so confusing, but I've had great luck with really smart people in this forum...HELP! Thank you in advance.

    my guess: you stumbled into usb2/PCformatted drive problems...
    first: is it usb2 connected or firewire? if usb2 - bring it back to the shop, no usage with iM! (any other files, as mp3, .doc, whatever, is fine, but not iM/large .mov/.dv)
    firewire? ok, next step:
    I don't understand that line of your posting: ... I know I can't reformat the drive...??? For sure, you can!
    a reformat will erase any content which is on the drive - but as I understood, you need it for getting new content on it....
    launch Disk Utitlity, choose drive, choose format, choose MacOs extended - after a while, you get a brandnew, empty, smart working drive!
    besides: no known workarounds for both problems! only way: firewire+Mac formatted (could be a "PC"drive - after formatting, it is a Mac drive)

    Hello. I asked this question in the FCP forum, and was directed here. Hopefully I can get some help.
    Hello. Is there a way in FCP (or, rather, Motion here) to have a certain point in your video be "anchored" and "followed" by another "point", so to speak? I'll try to explain: Can I take, say, a certain specific area in my frame A, mark it, and then take ANOTHER specific area of another frame B, and have B follow A's movements across time? The reason I ask is because I'm doing a rather complicated matte and I need my matte to move over a pretty specific area WHILE the area to be matted is moving rather dynamically. I've tried individually moving each point in the 8-point garbage matte that I'm using - which 1) was an ABSOLUTE nightmare (not something I recommend for ANYONE with a level head upon their shoulders), and 2) it, ultimately, didn't work, because the movements didn't SUPER coincide, and you were able to tell that there WAS a matte there in the first place (which defeated the purpose of having it). So I'm trying to see if I can get FCP (Motion) to do the work for me this time . . .
    Anyone understand what I just wrote?

    There are some plug-ins for FCP, I believe Boris (Red? Blue? Green? Some primary color) has tracking. After Effects also. But you might pay more for those as Shake. iStabilize is another option, but I don't know it will track a matte for you...
    There is a very complicated way of using a stabilizer to track a matte. If you have to go that route, lemme know and I'll try to explain it.
    Also, the masking tools in Motion are Far superior to the 8 point garbage matte. So if you have to do hand tracking, you might try them.

  • Dynamic Link complicated question

    This is the story.....
    1. I shot & edited a training session (many sessions - over 40 hours)
    2. I did minor editing in Premiere, used Dynamic Link to send to Encore, set up a first run title page with 8 links to the 8 chapters.(all end actions going back to the main menu)
    3. Burned a DVD for the client
    4. The client made notes for additional changes for me to edit.
    5. I went back into Premiere, made the editing changes (mostly increases in volume from audience questions, removing some comments, etc.)
    Now... If I try and use Dynamic link again to "re-send" to Encore, my only choice is a new project... I cannot send using Dynamic link to an existing project (or if I can, I do not know how)
    I know one work around is to encode from Premiere, then open a Encore project, import as a timeline.... & author away....
    This way, If I go back to Premiere, make editing changes, export back out WITH THE SAME FILE NAME.... when I open the existing Encore project... everything is the same... except the timeline has the updated editing changes...
    The only problem is that on all 18 DVD's, I used dynamic link to send to Encore... so does that mean, (unless I use a work-around, like stated above), I have to re-author all 18 DVDs. I would think that even when using dynamic link, if you open the timeline again in Premiere, make editing changes, that the Encore project would reflect those changes (to make sure, I set the audio volume to 0 on the first 10 seconds in Premiere, saved the project & closed it, opened Encore, did a preview, the audio was still at the regular volume (no change).....
    Any suggestions...
    Or should I just once again use dynamic link, start a new Encore project, re-author (& basically do the same thing over)?
    Or should I do it the other way, encode from Premiere, (you know the rest), I do believe that all the editing changes have been made (according to the client)
    Or, is there some way from Premiere to use Dynamic link to send to an existing Encore project?

    I didn't read all your note carefully.
    In your previous Encore project for DVD 1 (or whatever), right click on the "asset" for the timeline (the asset for a dynamic link is the Premiere sequece, not the Encore timeline that was created), and pick "revert to original." It should pick up your changes from Premiere.
    Note that to update markers, you must select the video in the Encore timeline itself, right click, "update markers from source." You will lose all previous markers. If you created the markers in Encore, you must update manually.

    I am thinking the Folder dialog is not correct for this application.
    On a second thought a persistent dialog to set the save folder path and run the script from the persistent dialog can make sense.
    Any ideas?

  • Need search & replace help dreamweaver 2006 (complicated question)

    if somebody could help with this I'd really appreciate it
    ....I have a site with tons of two word dir names word1_word2 a few are 3 word - there are a few images with this also (same as the dir names)
    I generate the site with the dir names in the metatage (discription and keywords) and at various places in the pages
    after building it I search and replace _ to space with dreamweaver (option not in any tag) so this kills the _ where ever it's visable but leaves it in img src and alt tags ect but most important leaves in metas where it looks like heck and I don't wan't it
    I've tired Everything in dreamweaver to search it out of metas and can't - I can live with it in alt img ect but rather not
    basic question"
    (is there a regex to leave _ only in hrefs & css styles and replace with space Everywhere else - if not remove in all visable text & metatags)
    beter yet can I do this with options in dreamweaver search & replace - 2 steps is ok - I killed the in visable text - I could live with them in alt & link titles but not in metatags (description and keywords)
    please Keep in mind I need it in href's (not the visable text though)

    Using spaces instead of underscores?  That is not a good thing.  You should  never use spaces or special characters in folder or filenames.  Ok?
    I hope this answers your question.  If not, post back with an example of what you're trying to change.

    For our purposes here:
    Table 1 = "Step 2 - Product Sizes"
    Table 2 = "Option id Master"
    Table 3 = "Export - Product Info"
    Table 1:
    The user would enter values for "productcode," "Horz," and "Vert"
    "Size" would auto fill based on values in Horiz and Vert (I have this taken care of already).
    Table 2: This is a completely static table that I want to search against. - Data from other tables in the doc does not alter or change the data in this doc.
    We just want to look at table 2. Find the existing value in "table 2 : size" column that matches the "table 1 : size" column  and then pull the "optionids" and "productprice" from that row.
    Can the value from "Table 1 : Size" be used as a search term in "Table 2 : Size?"
    Table 3: The user does not enter any values on this table. 
    "productcode" is pulled from table 1 - "Table 1 :: A5" = "Table 3 :: A5"
    "optionids" and "productprice" are pulled from Table 2 columns "D" and "E" - however we do not know which Table 2 row it is pulling from until we enter data in Table 1.
    As I'm writing this I'm realizing that
    A. this is probably really confusing to you.
    B. this may be impossible inside of numbers.
    If you have some other method that would facilitate the same out come but be structured differently please let me know.
    --- maybe to help you understand further what I am doing here is my current workflow:
    I record the size of a piece of art.
    Then I manually go to my "Option id Master" and find the same size.
    I then copy the corresponding "optionids" and "productprice" cells. (these options control the prices displayed on my website)
    I got to my "Export - Product Info" table and paste the values in the corresponding cells.
    I was hoping to automate this as it takes a long time when you have hundreds of products.

  • Complicated question: iPod nano/playlists from cloud

    A little hard to explain but here goes...
    I have an old iPod nano without internet capability.  If I get iTunes Match, I can pop in a CD & upload the tracks to my iMac.  They will then be available in the cloud.  I assume I can then delete the track from my iMac & still have access to it in the cloud for streaming.  Right?
    Assuming that's right, if I have a playlist that I sync with my iPod, will it still work with tracks that I have in the cloud, but not physically on my computer.
    Here's how I think it works:
    I make a playlist from songs in the cloud synced with my iPod.
    I connect the iPod.
    iTunes will DL the songs onto my computer in order to transfer them to my iPod.
    I disconnect the iPod.
    I delete the tracks from my Computer.  (They're still in the cloud.)
    The next time I connect & sync my iPod, will it lose the tracks that are in the cloud but not on my computer?  Will it re-DL them?
    My goal is to have a large library to choose from for my iPod without keeping all those tracks physically on my iMac.

    I suggest that you read this Make and keep a backup of your iTunes library, and only stream from the cloud.
    The music needs to be on your hard drive to sync with the iPod nano. If you delete tracks from your hard drive, they will be removed fron the nano next time you sync.
    Why do you need to stream music on your imac? Do you need to free up hard drive space?

  • Kind of a complicated question... please help?

    i've had my brother's old PowerBook G4 15-inch aluminum 1.5 GHz / 1GB ram / 80GB / superdrive (model: A1095) sitting around. it was dropped at some point where it caused the display to not work (it is very dark) but it is usable if you connect it to an external display. i would like to format the hard drive and reinstall the system software.
    i didn't research fully before starting... d'oh! oh well too late now. here's what i've done:
    1) connected the PowerBook to my MacBook Pro and booted it in target disk mode
    2) used Disk Utility and ran the 7-pass security option to erase the hard drive on the PowerBook (this took 1 day 14 hours). it said it was successful but not sure if it was supposed to format the drive too?
    3) tried to install the software from the restore disks but got an error that the drive wasn't formatted, so i tried to format it with the Disk Utility
    4) for giggles, i tried to use TechTool Deluxe that came with the AppleCare Protection Plan (which has long since expired). nothing.
    this is where i am at a loss as to what to do next. i can't seem to get the hard drive to format... when i connect to my MacBook Pro with target disk mode, it gives me an error that the drive needs to be "initialized" so i let it. this is where i am really not sure what i need to do.
    should i
    a) choose "erase" in Disk Utility? (leaving the default selection "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    - or -
    b) create a partition?
    - or -
    c) do something else? (help, please?)
    also, it just occurred to me that i am running 10.6.5 on the MacBook Pro and trying to install 10.3.3 on the PowerBook G4 because that's what the system restore disks have. would that be an issue? i do own the snow leopard family pack and have a couple of open licenses.
    the other problem is that the display on the PowerBook is pretty much dead, so not sure how to go about installing the restore software on the hard drive. can you do that in target disk mode? and is there any way to force the PowerBook to display on the external monitor?

    • Boot the Book in Firewire Target Disk Mode.
    • Insert install disk into MacBook's optical drive.
    • Connect computers via firewire cable
    • Option Boot PowerBook G4.
    • Select Install Disk for startup and click on the straight arrow.
    • Select language
    • Go to the Utilities menu (Tiger and later) Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
    • Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
    • Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
    • Click on Options button
    • Select Apple Partition Map (PPC Macs) or GUID Partition Table (Intel Macs)
    • Click OK
    • Select number of partition in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
    (Note 1: One partition is normally preferable for an internal HDD.)
    • Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
    • Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    • Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
    • Select Erase tab
    • Select the sub-volume (indented) under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
    • Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.

  • A complicated question

    Okay - this is a long one.
    My daughter works at a restaurant that uses an iPod for the music they play through their sound system. They purchased some of the music from iTunes and copied some from CD's that the restaurant owned.
    They have had trouble with the inconsistency of volume etc. My son-in-law does some music editing on his PC and offered to edit the music on the iPod. When he plugged it into his PC, it wanted to reformat the entire iPod as it had been set-up on a Mac. Not good as they would lose all the music!
    So he brought over the iPod and an external HD and hooked it up to my Mac. We tried everything possible to transfer the music from the iPod to the HD. Nothing worked. He needs to transfer it to this external HD, then edit the music, then return it to the iPod. He is NOT trying to somehow "steal" this music, just edit it.
    How does one do this?

    It's a program that transfers music from iPod to iTunes on a Mac.
    However, you are not going to be able to edit any protected music purchased from iTunes (unless it's iTunes plus music).
    It is protected by a Digital Rights management system.
    When he plugged it into his PC, it wanted to reformat the entire iPod as it had been set-up on a Mac. Not good as they would lose all the music!
    That's because Windows cannot read a Mac formatted drive without the aid of further software such as MacDrive (not free).
    You should however be able to use a Windows formatted iPod on a Mac because Macs are smart like that.

    Yes. They are variables. You created two references frog1 and frog2. They are also variables. What is the difference between the two?
    colour and position are variables of primitive data types.
    frog1 and frog2 variables of references.
    In java a variable can be of one of 8 primitive data types or a reference.I didn't see anything that says colour and position are primitives.
    They're member variables, as opposed to locals, but I didn't see where he declares their types.

    So I have a first generation mac mini that has a dying hard drive.  I tried verifying the disk and it failed stating "Invalid Node Structure" and needs to be repaired verbage.  I took it to the mac store and they stated that I could transfer the files over via Firewire using the "T" button when I start it up but I am trying to see if there is an alternative since I have not gotten to the store yet and don't have much time?
    Right now I am on the Mac Mini using OSX install disc so is there anyway to access the files that I need and transfer them over to my imac?  I can connect I think through terminal but I know nothing about the commands etc.

    Situation:
    - home computer (iMac) has iTunes library (files) on external drive
    - Home computer is in shop
    - Brought work iMac home
    - I want to create a new library on work iMac and use media from home iTunes library in new "library
    - I am having trouble making this work...

    Drag the iTunes folder from the external drive to /Music/ on the iMac.

  • Two complicated questions... To me anyway...

    I have 4 lines on one account - 1 smartphone, 1 non-smartphone, 2 broadband cards. The smartphone and a 2nd broadband card were just added to the account last summer. Can I put all 4 of these lines on a family share plan? The non-smartphone line consistently goes over it's 450 minutes and the smartphone barely makes a dent in its 450 minutes.
    Also, one of the broadband cards has an available upgrade in May - can I use that upgrade to get an iPhone (to replace the Blackberry) and still keep the broadband card (put it on the old BB line) or will I need to pay an early termination fee on the BB?

    The two phones can be put on a shared, family plan, but as far as I know there are no share plans for air cards.  The cheapest family plan is $70 for two lines sharing 700 minutes, versus $40 each for 450 minutes each, so you'd save about $10/month and any overages you were paying (assuming you don't go over 700 minutes on both)
    I'm not sure about upgrading a modem with a smartphone, never tried that. You can replace the BB at any time without an ETF, so long as you don't simply end the BB line before the contract is over.
    Wow, it's unusual to hear about voice overages these days - most people worry about data or texting overages.

  • Complicated itunes / ipod Album Art Question?

    This is a rather complicated question so I hope someone can help me. I have a 5th gen video ipod and run itunes (latest version 7.5) on Windows XP. I keep all my music on my home computer, syncing it daily with my ipod. I take my ipod to work and attach it to my PC there so I can listen through the speakers. I have to switch my ipod to the Manually Manage Music to be able to play it on that machine. What I want to do is see all the album artwork as I play them on that machine but only the artwork for music I have bought from itunes shows up on the work computer. All the art is on my ipod because if I listen to it detached from the PC all my art shows up on it. And I do have my ipod set to sync the album art.

    If you can find the cover art you want online, you can just tell iTunes to forget the artwork for those songs and add the art you want manually.
