Component cables & digital audio???

I'm connecting my DVD player to my receiver, i want to use the 3 component (green, red, blue) for video and the digital coaxial (orange) for audio! So my question is, can I buy a component 5 cable set and use either the red or white for my digital audio? Or do I get less quality doing that? Is there a better way?

Sorry, but in what way is this question related to Apple computers or devices? Are you referring to connecting your computer to your receiver and TV? If so, we need to know what model of Mac you're asking about before anyone can provide any useful advice.
Regards.

I have an Retina display MacBook Pro with HMDI out port. I also have an HDMI to Component cable with Audio Plugs. How can I get HDMI out to work with this cable when plugged into the MacBook Pro and connected to the TVs Component and Audio in ports.

Will not work.  To my knowledge, dual converting like that isn't supported.  The Mac must detect the connected video output device and that sort of info cannot be done across an analog component uni-directional connection.

  • Video output from iPod Touch (2nd gen) via AV Component Cable (no audio)

Hi, I'm trying to output a video from my iPod Touch (2nd gen) to my TV via a AV Component Cable.
Unfortunately the audio doesn't work, I'm sure they are all connected into the right places.
The video works, but I get no audio. (And no subtitles when closed caption is on)
Here is a link to an image of the TV connections from ImageShack:
    http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/7280/img0204y.jpg
At the top left of the image, are what I assume to be the red and white audio ports, highlighted in red.
I plugged in the red and white audio connectors into those ports.
And towards the bottom are three ports, green, blue and red, also highlighted in red.
I plugged in the green, blue and red connectors into those ports.
I changed the input of the TV to Input 2, I see the video for the movie I'm watching on the TV but no audio. I tried multiple movies.
I've also tried changing the video output from PAL to NTSC and back again, turning Widescreen on and off and turning Closed Captions on and off. I also tried plugging in the red and white audio connectors into the row of ports just below the green/blue/red row, to see if that made any difference, and it didn't.
I tapped the bottom left button of the iPod Touch when plugged in to the TV and playing video and it came up with an option that was selected called ~"Audio Source: English (Stereo)"
    Any idea's? Thanks.

    Resolved... ThankYou

  • Concerning plugging a ps2's component cable's audio wires into the x-fi cons

i bought a creative x-fi xtreme music sound card, then later got the x-fi console upgrade kit.
what im trying to do is plug in the l&r audio wires from the component cable of a ps2 into the aux in ports at the back of the console to run the ps2s sound through my x-fi card.
but as of now i cant hear anythin by doing this. what id like to know is whether what im tryin to do is possible. and if so, what do i have to do to be able to hear the input from the aux in port at the back of the x-fi console.
i would appreciate any advice on this

When you have Game Console open, There is 5 sliders, the first 2, Wave and Midi Synth cannot be changed, the rest are changeable; Pick one under playback that has an arrow above it, click the arrow, and you get the options of which input you want to use.
If you don't have the Game Console installed, the settings can be acessed from: ControlPanel/Sounds and Audio Devi'ves/Volume - Device Volume/Advanced... - Play control, if Aux 2 isn't appearing in Play control, go options/Properties and select AUX 2, this will display Aux 2 in your mixer controls.

  • Apple component cable issue audio no video

Just purchased the Component cable to play movies purchased from itunes on my Sharp Aquos TV. Tv does have the correct ports for the component cable. But when I plug the cable in I get sound but no picture. The video out setting on the ipad is correct, NTSC, as are the tv settings, NTSC and correct input. What am I missing?

If you are sure your video settings are correct on both, try the order of how you plug in the cables. I had this one time before but forget what I did using an iPhone. You need to either plug the cables into the TV, turn on your iDevice to the movie, then plug the 30 pin into the iDevice, or reverse it. It was something screwy like that. It had to do with the order and powering it all on. Sorry I don't remember better. Hope that helps.

  • IPod Touch & Dock - no audio Component Cable

    Hi all.
I have a Component Cable to connect iPod Touch (1st Gen) to stereo for audio and it works perfectly when I plug the cable directly into the iPod but if I put the iPod Touch in the Apple Universal Dock then connect the dock using the Component Cable (red/white) to the stereo I get no sound at all.
The dock works correctly if I connect it using a 3.5mm cable to the stereo.
Does anyone know why this would happen when it is plugged into the dock?
    Thanks

TV out is not supported by the Google YouTube app. Per:
    https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!searchin/youtube/tv$20out/youtube/wbm8v 35tbyg/ndtW9MsNzk4J
    1. Use YouPlayer by Homegrown Software Ltd
    2. Use the Apple Digital AV Adapter because my Apple device can mirror.
    3. Use the Apple VGA Adapter because my Apple device can mirror.
Note that nley the 5G iPod supports mirroring.

  • Can I use the optical digital audio cable to connect INSTEAD of the hdmi?  My tv only has 2 hdmi ports, and they're both taken

Can I use the optical digital audio cable to connect INSTEAD of the hdmi?  My tv only has 2 hdmi ports, and they're both taken

I'm afraid that's very misleading and inaccurate.
Firstly an adapter won't work, it would need to be a converter and then if it's a compliant converter it won't let you watch HDCP protected content such as that from netflix or from the iTunes Store.
Secondly, whilst I'm not going to debate whether component or HDMI is better, component is certainly not better if it's been converted from an HDMI signal. You can't make anything better by simply converting it to another type of signal.

  • Is there a way to get a Dock to a Digital Audio Cable?

I have a 5.1 Home theater and it has 2 Digital Audio imputs and the standard Red and White.  I want to listen to my music but i lost the dock that came with it.  Is there a cable that would go straigt into the digital audio input and into my iphone to give me 5.1 channels? And right now i am just hooking a USB with my music to my tv and then playing it from there and it plays in 5.1.  I got the 4s.

  • Digital audio cables

I've been looking for digital audio cables and have noticed a wide price range, anywhere from $12.95 to $60.00.  Why the wide variance?  Is there that much difference in their capabilities, and if so, what are the differences?

In modern digital audio signals, as I stated earlier, either the signal reaches it's destination, or it does not. With error correction, even small dropouts do not cause signal loss. Since digital signals are not prone to the problems that plague analog signals (inductance, crosstalk, jitter, etc), then expensive cables are not needed. All that is needed is a cable of sufficient length and correct impedance. On consumer grade equipment, the difference between a $3 dollar cable and a $150 dollar cable are completely inaudible to the human ear. Since most audio signals come from a compressed source (mp2, wma, wav, etc), the audible differences are due to the quality o the DACs used, and not the cable that connects the source. Even on the few pieces of equipment that will play the uncompressed audio of a blu-ray disc, cables are much less critical than the equipment used to decode them. There is simply no reason for anyone to spend $50, $60 or more dollars for any digital cable. Extra "shielding" is not needed. Any of the other claims made by cable makers justifying their exorbitant prices are simply marketing hoopla, smoke and mirrors, and in some cases complete and utter nonsense. Any cable of appropriate length and impedance is sufficient.

  • Apple Video Component Cable only for audio

I want to buy an Apple Video Component Cable to use it with an iPhone 3GS and also with an iPod 5G.
The cable will be connected to the TV and to the audio receiver.
I know that this cable is not compatible with the iPod 5G, but in this case I only want to use it to listen to music. Therefore, only audio with iPod 5G, audio/video with iPhone 3GS.
Does anyone know if using this cable, despite the fact that video won't work on iPod 5G, audio will work fine on iPod 5G?
I'd like to know that before I buy it.
    Thanks!
    Andrés

    I'll answer my self.
Yes, it does play music on the iPod 5th gen.

  • What digital audio cable can I use with my 2009 Mac mini?

I have a late 2009 Mac mini (not the HDMI model) and I would like to get digital audio out of it. What kind of cable should I use?
The headphone jack says that it can connect with digital audio products, but I don't know how to tell if 1/8th cables are digital or analog.
    Thanks!

the mac mini's headphone jack has a combination optical hookup. any kind of headphone cable will not send out the optical signal, you can tell because when you look at a standard headphone cable, it doesnt have anything for light to shine through it!
to get the digital audio out of the mini im pretty sure you will need aToslink to Mini Digital Optical SPDIF Audio Cable. they sell these on amazon for $5.55
you connect one side to the mac mini and you connect the other side of the cable to your optical input on your receiver
im pretty sure this is correct. the mac might send digital down a regular cable (some receivers will do this too) but im pretty sure the digital is sent down optically
