Component Database Hang

I've stupidly named two component the same name and I'm now having problems with that component.  To delete these components, if I try Tools->Database and click on the Components tab, the program hangs and I can only shut it down.  I'm not sure if the two problems are related but there's no way I can access the Components tab (Multisim 11.0.2).  What do I need to do?
Thanks...Steve

The quick answer is that I don't know if I have a backup.  We have full-fledged IT Nazi's here and I'm very limited and what I can do or find out.  If you could give me some idea as to where the database is supposed to be and what the size is/filename(s), maybe I can find out where they installed it.  I don't think we have a central location for the database, it might be right on my computer (most likely).  Then I'd need some instructions on how to reinstall the database because IT here might just wipe my computer and start everything from scratch, when I put in a complaint.
I think I have one dedicated license to this computer and there might be one other license in this facility.  Since Multisim is not 'standard', most likely they installed it as a single seat on my computer and wouldn't have a clue how to fix the database other than re-install multisim and all the updates.  If there is an easier way to do it, we'd have to tell them how.

  • Shutting down database hangs

    Dear Gurus,
I m facing a database hang issue while performing the scheduled offline backup.I m able to take the online backup. When the backup starts , the database starts to shutdown. When checked in the log of backup it shows in tail as shutting down database. When checked for user trace , it shows message as "Attempting to kill pid xxxxxxx" and keeps on retrying for n no. of times. Then I have to manually kill the backup and restart the application. Then again try for an offline backup. This time it happens smoothly. This activity we did for couple of weeks .But now from past 3 days even after restarting the backup, it goes to hang mode.In other words unable to perform the backup activity.
The message had been raised to SAP from almost 15 days at very high. They every time ask the logs , and say that the data in log is nt providing much info for analysing the issue or cause of hang. Also enabled the traces of 10400 for trace level 1 ,10 some more traces also. But still the output is not helping even them to analyse the root cause.
Its my observation that this issue is occuring only on ABAP+JAVA systems(CRM &BIW)not in ECC.We are on oracle database 10.2.0.0.4 with latest patch set as suggested by SAP for the same issue.

My database server has 10g with MS 2003 server as OS.
Twice a day the database hangs and does disconnects all the users from local and remote locations.

  • Database Hanging

    Hi,
I have Oracle database 10g my database is hanging and i want to check what locks occur on which table how can i work on this database hanging process.Kindly help...because i am new for this i need good procedure to face this problem..

If db hangs there could be a lot of possibilities..
eg. no more space for archive log or datafiles
Locks on table are different. You can look on alertlog and start investigating..

  • What are your future component database plans?

I have been a longtime user of Multisim, Ultiboard, (and Ultiroute) power pro edition.  This includes the PartMiner days before NI bought EWB.  While component manufacturers commonly have component databases for use in the suites of your competitors, there never seem to be any available for your products.  Now, access to these databases would save a lot of time.  I don't use simulation a lot because you don't provide behavioral simulators, and my designs mostly include processors or controllers.  Even Analog Devices' database, which advertises a Multisim and Ultiroute subset, won't load on my platform.  Can you explain why you don't either digest the ORCAD datasets or pursuade Analog Devices, Microchip, TI, et al to provide multisim versions of their data?
I have long been a supporter, and am just seeking to make my life simpler.

    Hi Thomas.
When you say "MDM as Catalogue", which means utilizing the features available in SAP-MDM(Like Portal iViews) and use it as functionality provided for catalog solutions instead of going for SRM-MDM Catalog - correct me if my understanding is wrong.
If this is the case, then you can simply fetch the records available in the repository and showcase it using portal iviews and
use it for procurement solutions(for SRM-Shopping cart etc) using check out functionality.
But SRM-MDM Catalog is designed specifically for certain functionalities like showing different prices like Contract, Purchase Info records, List price etc which is not possible in portal iviews, Service Catalog for showing hierarchies, showing various types of item types(BOM, SK1, SK2, Components etc). Similarly there are some more features which is available in SRM-MDM Catalog which lacks when we use "MDM as Catalogue"
But still SAP can come up with more features if they have plans to bring up a common catalog solution for various solutions.
    Hope this helps.

  • Oracle 8i database hangs for the same amount during JDBC calls.

    Hi all,
I have a Oracle 8i database on solaris. The database hangs for exactly 61 seconds for a random jdbc call from my Java application, i mean there is no particular pattern or a JDBC call for which the database hangs. If i choose to wait for 61 seconds it returns the results from the database but if i try to access the database with another query(SQL Plus) the first query starts executing immediately. Is that a database configuration problem or some thing else.
And i also get some exceptions occasionally( Maximum Open Cursors exception). Are these two related?
    Any feedback is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Hugo Victor

    I have uninstalled Oracle 8i.
Removed all the services from Windows services by deleting corresponding registry entries and deleted the Oracle folder.
I have reinstalled Oracle 8i, this time i changed the name of global database to oracledb.
I channged the tnsnames.ora file from DevSuite appropriately as:
    # tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: C:\DevSuiteHome_1\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = mscserver)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = ORACLEDB)
Still it can't login using scott/tiger authentication.
What may be the problem? Please help.

  • What to do when database hang

    Hi all,
May I know what to do when database hangs after shutdown immediate command perform? Can I use kill process command to stop Oracle process?

    Hello,
see documentation for details of immediate-clause:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14231/start.htm#sthref589
You can do an shutdown abort instead, but then sql is terminated. You can read details here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14231/start.htm#sthref595

  • How do I add Analog Devices symbols and footprints to component database?

    Hi,
Analog Devices conveniently has a library of their component symbols and footprints for Ultiboard and Multisim.  How can I add these to the library?
Is it a drag and drop thing?  If so what is the folder location?
If I go thru the available database interface it doesn't allow for selecting footprints outside of the existing library and adding them.
In ultiboard I can open the footprints, but 'save to database' is not an option available.
    thanks
    Ryan

I am not sure which file you downloaded, but I downloaded the Ultiboard Zip file (the small 3KB one). Each footprint is an individual footprint and apparently must be added manually to the database in Ultiboard.
How to do this? In Ultiboard, Extact them to a location on your drive and double click the footprint and it will load onto the screen like a normal board would. Now you have to goto DATABASE>DATABASE MANAGER. Once there you right click on USER DATABASE and add a family like say TRANSITORS. Then highlight your new family by clicking on it. Then goto the very top of the  and you will see a little yellow "+" . click that and it will give you the option to add a new part from the current design to the user database. That is all you need. The footprint will be in the user database.
The next step is to assign it to the component in Multisim and you will have to refer to a turtorial on the NI Site in order to do this. I will post a link to it once I find it.
I do not know about the other file. Most of the time there are .PRZ files that the only thing you have to do is to go into the database manager of Multisim and select the user database. This will give you the option to do an import. If your files are a .PRZ file then you will be able to import using this option.
I hope some of this helps a little

  • Component database manual

Where can I find a listing of all the components in Multisim/Cap and Ultiboard. When I want to put, say a connector on the circuit, I get a list of many components but I don't know what they really are. To learn them, I need to place one in the circuit, transfer it to Ultiboard, and then examine the 3D view.
Is there any madness to the numbering of components? In surface mount technology there are thing like 0805, 1206, 1210, etc that describe the physical size of the component. What else exists?

Yes, I agree with you about this. I think this has been discussed before with NI, but I do not remember what they said in reply to it. It may already be on a feature list. If not, it definitely needs to be added.
The way I get my parts dimensions is to select a footprint that I think will work and then transfer to Ultiboard and view it there. If I am not happy with it, then I change it in Multisim and forward annote that back to Ultiboard. I do this in conjunction with any datasheets/parts information I have. This is probably the long way around to do this, but I usually stick with what works for me.
If the datasheet already has a footprint number that is contained in the database then I will use that one. I have run into situations. namely with resistors. where the only thing you have are dimensions and the seller's part book doesn't list anything about a footprint number.
Maybe NI can release an article in their knowledge base that contains this information or point users to somewhere that does have this info.

Do you login as SYS from the server ? Can you login as any other user from the server ?

  • Database hangs after retrieving some records....

    hi,
I create a two level B+-tree index, for the first level i'm using key as logical database name, for the second level B+-tree i'm using some other field in my data. I am retrieving the records based on logical database name. I am using C++ to implement my index.
In the following code i'm retrieving records from database. Program is behaving differently for different logical database names. For example in my database i have around 4 lakhs records with logical database name 'A' and around 1 lakh of records with logical database name 'B'. The following code displays all B records but programs hangs after retrieving some A records.

  • Deployment to runtime repository in different database hangs

    Hi All
I am facing an issue while deploying to a runtime repository in different database.
I have created a simple mapping, taking data from one schema available in database where OWB is installed, to schema available in different database.I am changing the configuration to the control center available on target database.
source module is associated with control center available on design repository and target module is associated with control center available on runtime repository.
In control center manager, the message displayed at toolbar is "compiling deployment object"..after sometime OWB hangs and nothing happens.
What could be possible reason for that?
    Thanks in advance
    Avanish

I got the problem with OWB 10.1.0.4.0 and I had to install the path 10.1.0.5.0 for make it works !
