Component editing from Flash MX to Flash 8

Hey everyone,
Remember back in Flash MX how you could edit everything in a
component, like color of arrows etc etc....lots of editable areas.
Well now in Flash 8 all I can find in component editor is like 10
things max to edit, none from flash mx...where was this moved
now...I want to be able to edit for example a scrollpane in flash 8
and want to be able to edit everything just like in flash mx.
Thanks!

The new componenets are not editable wthin Flash anymore. You
can skin them
(check help for SKIN) or you could try to dig out the
component source file and
edit it it directly. There are some source files in the
Macromedia folder on
your drive.

  • XML editing from flash, any idea, suggestion

    Hello,
    I have created for a client a website dynamically loaded with
    XML formatted content (XML Files), now the client wants to be able
    to edit the contents of its site (CMS), the site displays several
    things but more specifically a list of products, which you can see
    by browsing the "PRODUCT RANGE" section of
    http://www.cellap.com/.
    I planned to use a php to rewrite the XML with the edited
    data sent from the flash (oldData, newData), it works fine, except
    that there are several problems:
    -I use the "ereg_replace" command of PHP, which seems not to
    handle correctly special charachters such as "*"...
    -If the php is told to replace i.e. "FACE" with "FIGURE", it
    will replace it everywhere on the XML, which is not what I want; so
    maybe I'm not using the right technique; I know it'd be more easy
    to do if the content was on a MySQL database, but the client wanted
    XML, to be able to browse the site offline...
    Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi
    When I edit a Flash CS3 document from Dreamweaver CS 3 on a

    Is there a way of stopping Flash from quitting after doing a

    OK, I have wiped the larger drive and done a complete reinstall of OSX (and updates) and reinstalled all applications on it, so I now have:
    Main Drive (OS and apps.): 465GB, with 430GB of free space
    2nd Drive (scratch disk): 149GB, with 66GB of free space
    RAM (I've added 2 more GBs): 5GB
    But the problem with Flash pausing when I go back to it from another application is exactly as it was before I upgraded anything.
    Is it possible this is a Finder problem? - as I also have a problem bringing up Finder by clicking on the desktop background if I am in another application - it just won't work, and I am forced to select Finder from the dock.
    Thanks.

  • Quicktime component error exporting from Flash

    Hello people
    I try to export from Adobe Flash 8 to QuickTime movie, but i get the error on this image:
    http://www.junihh.com/goodies/QTerror.jpg
    That is the window error in Windows XP (i'm using a Mac skin). I try exporting to QT using in the Flash settings the Flash Player versions 7, 6, 5 and the same.
    I need any idea, because i have an animation to convert to video for a presentation, that include music and sound FX.
    This is all that i have:
    - Windows XP SP1
    - Adobe Flash 8
    - QuickTime 7.1.3
    - No more ideas
    Thanks to any help. I appreciate so much.
    Imac 333   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Wacom tablet, scanner, external HD, HP printer, keyboard & mouse bluetooth

    Flash playback has been disabled (security issues) in
    7.1.3 and you'll need to turn it back on.
    QuickTime Control Panel/Advanced tab. Check the box
    that says "Enable playback of Flash tracks". Quit and
    relaunch QuickTime for this change to take effect.
    When "Publishing" from Flash you need to choose
    version 5. Newer formats will not play in QuickTime.
    Hello !!!!
    Really thank you, your help working very nice. Now i can export without problems.
    Thanks again.

    Hi
    Can you tell me which version of dreamweaver you are using (and flash pro, if you have it), as the code you provided has element of a number of different versions (e.g. your js flash files are reasonably new, but your flash inserted into the html body is old, but with the cs3 version of flash player indicated!). Also the detect flash file is no longer required.

  • How to diagnose flickering exported JS animations from Flash CC?

    Quick stats on my system:
    Macbook Pro Retina 2012 running OSX 10.9.3
    Flash CC 13.1.0.226
    I'm not experiencing an error so much as a lack of understanding about how to diagnose Flash CC JS export issues. Here's the backstory:
    In 2012, my company started working with an contract sprite artist. I was using the CS5.5 Creative Suite, and we were exporting normal png sequences from Flash for use in the game. After about 8 months, my cofounders and I realized that we could both reduce the load time for the game and also allow our artwork to be dynamically scalable by switching to JS exports of our art rather than the raster sprite sheets. Here's the blog post we wrote about it: http://blog.codecombat.com/hacking-our-way-to-vector-artwork-in-html5
    At the time, I didn't have Flash CC, and was reliant upon the CreateJS plugin to export the required JS files: CreateJS Developer Center | Adobe Developer Connection After another month or so, our contractor upgraded their version of Flash and we started having compatibility issues reading FLA files, so I upgraded as well. After doing some reading, I concluded that the CreateJS plugin was now incorporated into Flash CC as the HTML5 doc type, which was confirmed when I checked out the publish settings and resulting files.
    This is all a rather long winded way of saying that we have legacy artwork created with an older version of Flash but are now importing all of our artwork from JS files.
    Fast forward to today and we have two big issues:
    1) We can't figure out how to reduce the filesize of JS exports. As discussed in our blog post, vector artwork has upsides and downsides. One of the downsides we've found is that complex art that uses a lot of shapes ends up being substantially larger (in terms of filesize) than the appearance might otherwise suggest. Raster exports skirt this because a pixel is a pixel, but vector exports scale with the complexity of the source FLA. I'm not a Flash expert, and when we get files that are particularly complex, Flash either runs out of memory exporting them to JS files or we get files that are far too large to reasonably use. To be clear, the "out of memory" error isn't a problem because even if Flash finished the export, the resulting files would be too large for us to use (plus, I've done some digging and found a tutorial for correcting the out of memory error). Our artist is not familiar with the intricacies of the JS Flash exporter, so when we get a file that's too big or breaks the export, neither of us can really figure out a way to correct the problem. We have three questions in particular:
         a) Where can you view shape data that Flash is going to write to the JS files?
         b) Is there any way to edit said shape data inside the Flash CC interface?
         c) Is there any way to optimize shape data in Flash? For instance, in Photoshop, you can flatten images and export a psd with 500 layers as a single JPEG, is there any way to do something similar to shape data in Flash?
    2) Exports frequently break in weird ways. Many of the sprites that we created a year ago haven't needed to be re-imported into our game engine for some time. But every once in a while, I need to go back and fix, improve, or tweak an existing sprite, and then I run smack into the issue of reconciling files that were created without thought to JS exports with our current system. Just last week I was running into this issue in a big way and I made a screencast for our artist (since we work remotely) that I hoped might give him a better idea of the problem: Flash Errors - Treasure Chest, Flippable Tile - YouTube
    The two files mentioned in that screencast are both old (treasure chest) and new (flippable land tile). We have a few questions:
         a) Why are the treasure chest frames "flickering" in the html5 preview? The problem doesn't appear inside Flash and is inconsistent between files. There are two FLA files: one in which the treasure chest is empty, and one in which it's full. The empty animation doesn't throw any errors, either when converting to the HTML5 doc type or on export, but the resulting animation flickers. The full treasure, on the other hand gives me 21 lines of these errors when I do the conversion (not when I export): "Blend Modes(Layer) is not supported in HTML5 Canvas document, and has been converted to Normal in an instance of Movieclip <Path>." The result in both cases is the same: the animations flicker, and neither our artist nor us can figure out why, or for that matter, even begin to troubleshoot it. This SO issue seems to describe the problem, but was never resolved, and I can't find anything else that seems to address it: CreateJS Publish of Flash Project Flickers - Stack Overflow
    I've uploaded the files involved to a public dropbox folder which I think you'll be able to access (Dropbox seems to be having some problems at the moment): Dropbox - flash_debugging
    Since my questions are fairly involved, and my goal is to gain a better understanding of the UI, not simply resolve an error, I'd be happy to pay for someone's expertise/time in getting me up to speed. You can get in touch with me at george [at] codecombat.com

    Hi George,
    I have taken a look at the files full_treasure_chest.fla and flippable_land.fla that you have shared via drop box and found that they both uses blank keyframe(s) followed by Keyframe(s). This was an issue and has been addressed in the latest release Flash CC 2014 (released on 18 June, 2014). Can you please install the latest build 14.0.0.110 and try this out?
    Thanks!

  • Quicktime movie export from Flash CS3 is skipping frame.

    When I try to export Quicktime movie from Flash CS3, the
    resulting mov file is skipping frames. i.e.: The movie is showing
    frame number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7, 7, 10, 11, 12, 12, 12, 15
    etc...
    As you can see the frame number 7 is repeated 3 times and
    frame 8 and 9 are nowhere to be found.
    The last configuration I used is 960x540, Sorenson video 3
    medium quality, 25 fps, keyframe every 25 frames. 6400 kbits/s.
    I tried various configurations,with different codecs and even
    with keyframe all frames and I always get simillar problems.
    Anyone have an idea what is going on, and how to fix this?
    Thank you,
    Olivier.

    The QT exporter in Flash is honestly my least favorite
    feature - not the feature itself but how it
    works (or how it doesn't work in some cases). For me it is
    almost unusable unless you have a very
    short timeline, small stage, lower frame rate - like AS
    generated effects or something - otherwise,
    for true frame accuracy to video output - it is not reliable
    enough and not fast enough for any real
    world production environment.
    So typically for me - I love SWF2Video (www.flashants.com) as
    it takes any SWF and makes it into an
    AVI that is frame accurate no matter what the frame rate is -
    quite incredible - enough so that I
    always felt it should have been bundled with Flash (as well
    as Wacom tablets).
    Harmony is an incredible product - as is SOLO and TBS (Toon
    Boom mStudio) - each of those programs
    are dedicated animation programs designed for output to video
    - Flash has a lot of hats to fill and
    it was never really designed for animation to video even
    though many of us have found it suitable
    for all intents and purposes as an animation program for full
    production.
    But all in all - the quicktime exporter doesn't really
    deliver how we would expect it too I am sorry
    to say - I only hope it works as well as it does on the Mac
    (Mac users could always choose to export
    to Quicktime Video but not PC users).
    For now if I am exporting to video I keep it all on the
    timeline or nested in Graphic symbols or use
    the SWF2Video tool.
    hope this helps.

  • Opening an HTML popup from Flash, not as tab

    Hi
    I need to open an HTML popup from Flash (using ActionScript in
    Flex 4).
    Thus far I found a solution, and it does work in Safari - a new
    and separate HTML window is popped up (with a new web page).
    private function popUpTheHtmlEditor():void {
      var url:String = "http://www.adobe.com";
      var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);
      try {
        navigateToURL(request, '_blank');
      } catch (e:Error) {
        trace("Error occurred!");
    But in (my) Firefox (with my settings), when I click on the Flash
    (Flex) button, the page is being opened in a new tab.
    I need a solution which pops up the HTML page in a new/separate
    window, as far as possible regardless of the browser (and browser
    settings).
    I found an example where a popup is opened from HTML, and it opens a
    separate window (a real popup) in my Firefox:
    http://www.gtalbot.org/FirefoxSection/Popup/PopupAndFirefox.html
    -> "Open a requested popup"
    The JavaScript code seems to be:
      OpenRequestedPopup(this.href, this.target); return false;
    with this function def:
      function OpenRequestedPopup(strUrl, strTarget)
        if (WindowObjectReferenceOfRequestedPopup == null || WindowObjectReferenceOfRequestedPopup.closed)
        WindowObjectReferenceOfRequestedPopup = window.open(strUrl, strTarget, "top=" + windowTop + ",left=" + windowLeft + ",width=" + windowWidth + ",height=" + windowHeight + ",menubar,toolbar,location,resizable,scrollbars,status");
        else
        if(WindowObjectReferenceOfRequestedPopup.focus)
          WindowObjectReferenceOfRequestedPopup.focus();
    How could I call such code from ActionScript? Should this work through
    ExternalInterface? I couldn't even get this to work:
      ExternalInterface.call('alert', 'foo');
    Should I use swfobject.js for embedding the .swf in the HTML wrapper?
    Any other ideas?
    The two files are pasted below.
    Here's the compiler command I'm using:
      mxmlc -output button.swf -target-player 10.0.0 flash_to_editor.mxml
    I'm running the examples locally (as files, not over http). Would it
    help to place the files on a server?

    Hi,
    Here's a solution.
    1. Make ExternalInterface work when files are loaded as local files:
    Go to
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.htm l
    In tab Global Security Settings: Edit Locations -> Add Location ->
    browse to the .swf file, add it. Make sure it's in the list (under the
    Edit Locations drop down, with a green check mark.)
    Now open the HTML wrapper in a browser (eg Firefox).
    Now this works (ActionScript):
    private function popUpTheHtmlEditor():void {
      ExternalInterface.call('alert', 'foo');
    On Windows: perhaps:
    http://techjig.blogspot.com/2008/03/flash-global-security-settings-windows.html
    "In order for external interface functions to be called, you must also
    specify the folder/file where the swf file is located."
    The above setup isn't necessary when the files are on a server.
    Also see:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/external/External Interface.html#call()
    ""ExternalInterface" "
    "call() method"

    "Using the ExternalInterface API to access JavaScript"
    2. Open a real popup: Example:
    ActionScript:
    private function popUpSomething():void {
      var editorPathOrUrl:String =
        'wrapper.html';
      var windowName:String =
        "SomeNameSeeDocs";
      var windowFeatures:String =
        "toolbar=yes,menubar=yes,location=yes,scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=500,height=700";
      ExternalInterface.call(
        'launch',editorPathOrUrl,windowName,windowFeatures
    JavaScript:
    function launch(editorPathOrUrl,windowName,windowFeatures) {
      windowRef = window.open(
        editorPathOrUrl,windowName,windowFeatures
    Works in all browser I tested except Opera.

  • Mac Projector Crashes When exported From Flash CS5.5

    Something strange that i noticed, when i had exported a presentation for a Mac,
    on a 64 bit windows 7 using flash cs5.5.
    the applicaton gets the paths of a few swfs from an XML file
    and loads them one after the other.. there is a small bit of interactivity.
    .. tested this projecter on various versions of MAC, it crashes often,crashes earlier if i switch applications.  what follows here is a part of a report that was generated on an  OS X 10.7.3,
    works fine if the projector is exported from flash cs5.
    i need it to work when exported from flash cs5.5.. any suggestions on what i need to change in my application so that it works when exported from flash cs5.5?
    Your help would be appreciated Thanks in Advance

  • Edit Photoshop Flash Web Gallery

    Hi!
    I'm completely new to Flash but I've been trying to edit the
    Flash gallery 1 included in Photoshop CS2. What I like to do is to
    make links from the title in the head. I figured out how I can copy
    the code for the email field that already exists. But I cant really
    understand how I change it so it works on a webpage instead of an
    email.
    The template I'm using can be downloaded here:
    Photoshop
    Flash Web Gallery
    I found the specific code in title.class.as
    The code I want to change looks like this:
    if (email != undefined) {
    var emailObj = this.createEmptyMovieClip('email_mc',
    this.nextDepth())
    emailObj.beenClicked = false;
    //trace ('we have email info it is '+email);
    currentY -= titleH2.size;
    emailObj.createTextBlock('email_txt', currentX, currentY,
    'dynamic', titleH2, 1600, 20, false, false, true, false, email,
    config.embedFont, false);
    emailObj.email_txt._width = emailObj.email_txt.textWidth+10;
    emailObj.email_txt.textColor = theGallery.link.toHex();
    emailObj.onRollOver = emailObj.onDragOver = function () {
    //trace("over");
    this.email_txt.textColor = theGallery.link.toHex();
    emailObj.onRollOut = emailObj.onDragOut = function () {
    //trace("out");
    if (this.beenClicked == false){
    this.email_txt.textColor = theGallery.link.toHex();
    } else {
    this.email_txt.textColor = theGallery.vlink.toHex();
    emailObj.onPress = function () {
    //trace("out");
    this.email_txt.textColor = theGallery.alink.toHex();
    emailObj.onRelease = function () {
    this.beenClicked = true;
    this.email_txt.textColor = theGallery.vlink.toHex();
    mailTo ( email)
    //trace("release");
    What I want to do is to create a link in the code for:
    if (one != undefined) {
    //trace ('we have a one it is '+one+' that is '+one.length);
    currentY -= titleH2.size;
    this.createTextBlock('one_txt', currentX, currentY,
    'dynamic', titleH2, 1600, 20, false, false, true, false, one,
    config.embedFont, false);
    Lets say that I want it to link to a page called one.htm
    How do I do this?

    This would be the least instrusive hack I can find that may get you around the problem.  In the js fle there is a function...
    function detectFlash(ver) {
    if (getFlashVersion() >= ver) {
      return true;
    } else {
      return false;
    Try changing this function to...
    function detectFlash(ver) {
    if (getFlashVersion() >= ver) {
      return true;
    } else {
      return true;
    This should eliminate making the text appear.  If not, there's another thing you can try.
    A better approach wuld be to use more up to date embedding code, though I cannot say whether the js file is written specifically for this Flash application such that it includes code that talks to the Flash file.

  • How to get "Subject" & "Message" text from Flash form to default e-mail MS Outlook?

    Hi,
    I have the following code which is working fine except I can't get the user typed data from flash form to my default e-mail (MS Outlook) application. How to edit the following code?
    In the code:
    1) To  ---->  this field is okay since this email ID doesn't change
    2) Cc  ---->  this filed is also okay since no changes will be in email ID
    3) Subject  ----> this may not be always as "Feedback", user may like to change the subject
    Whant I would like to add more here is:
    1) From  ----> this text to be retrieved from "fromText.txt" input text box
    2) Message  ----> this text to be retrieved from "MessageText.txt" input text box
    //1.Button event listener
    SendMail.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, SendEMail);
    //2.The SendMail function open up email application to send email.
    function SendEMail(event:MouseEvent):void {
    var email:URLRequest = new URLRequest("mailto:[email protected]?CC=[email protected]&Subject=Feedback");
    navigateToURL(email, "_blank");
    Thanks in advance for any support.
    Regards.

    Thanks for the reply. I tried the code and result is like the following:
    To: [email protected]
    Cc: [email protected]
    Subject: [object TextField]?body=From: [object TextField]
    Body: Blank
    The problem exist in SUBJECT & BODY.
    Further help, please.
    Thanks.
    PS: I removed the ? before body and put & ------> the result is as follows:
    To: [email protected]
    Cc: [email protected]
    Subject: [object TextField]
    Body: From: [object TextField]
               [object TextField]
    One more thing that it opens an empty web page with the following text in adress bar:

    help stopping the FLVPlayback instance (which has an instance
    name of theVideo) when another button is clicked!
    How do I stop flv playback when user clicks a navigation
    button ...
    Excuse me in advance for asking about a topic that may be
    very popular!
    I'm using the attached code to go from the main stage to one
    subset of .swf files (loaded movies) and I apparently have no
    problems with overlapping. Hell, the files even seem to unload
    themselves correctly. Then, when I go to my second subset of .swf
    files (with the exact same AS3 structure), which has a Flash Video
    file (made by the FLV Playback component), I get into an
    overlapping problem associated with the audio.
    How can I stop, cancel, or unload the audio when the file is
    clicked away from (the user selects another button on the main
    stage)?
    Code attached. Please let me know if anything else is needed.
    Yours Sincerely,

    I have tried to clean up code and do this right.
    I need help referencing (storing the value in the variable
    "stopsoundoverlapReq") the "flvplayback instance AFTER theVideo is

    correctly.
    Also, now I need help with the name of my nav bar button's
    method followed by parentheses, which should include the
    appropriate method parameter.
    On my main timeline, I tried to clean up the code and use:
    var stopsoundoverlapReq:FLVPlayback =

    Then for my nav bar button on this same timeline use:
    any_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, stopsoundoverlap);
    function stopsoundoverlap(event:MouseEvent):void
    stopsoundoverlap.stop(stopsoundoverlapReq);
    The 3 errors I get now are :

  • Can access c++ library from flash action script by using SWC lib?

    We want to develope a Flash application based on Windows CE 6.0 R3. The application aims to communicate with middleware libraries written in C/C++. Is it possible to create SWC file using the c++ library file so that we can load this as a component in fla project for accessing the library functions from flash action script 3.0? OR Is there any simple way to access c++ library from action script?
    Thanks,
    Saumini

    I don't think Alchemy will help you.  The reason is Alchemy does not give socket capabilities beyond what Flash provides.

  • Newbie needs help editing free flash template

    I am trying to change the name shown in flash on this website, but it is in bitmap form. It came with a psd file that I was able to edit, but it makes no changes to the site when uploaded. the site can be viewed at southernflaircateringdotcom
    How can I edit the name grill house restaurant???

    Grill House and Restaurant are both imported from individual layers in the Photoshop file. Each of the Photoshop file layers are in the Assets folder in the index folder in the index.psd Assets folder in the Library. You can edit just the Grill House bitmap in Photoshop from the Library by right clicking on that bitmap, but this is not the best method.
    Open the index.psd in Photoshop and make the changes that you want. Be sure to keep the layer organization the same. Save the edited .ps file. From Flash, import the .ps file. When the import window opens, select only the layer(s) that you've changed. These changed layers will import into a new folder structure in the Flash movie's library. Delete the old bitmaps from the folder in the Library. Drag the new bitmaps from their folders to the folders that contained the original bitmaps. In other words replace the old with the new. You should see the updated content in your movie when you test it.

  • Flex Component Kit for Flash CS3

    Hi,
    I created a flex component using the component kit for Flash
    CS3. The component contains a vector image wrapped as a MovieClip.
    In my flex application I add the component as child to a
    Canvas. It works well if i add it like -
    <mx:Canvas id="container" >
    <local:MyComponent />
    </mx:Canvas>
    or like -
    container.addChild (new MyComponent()); //DISPLAYED
    However, the component is not displayed when I do the
    following -
    var array:Array = new Array(new MyComponent());
    container.addChild(array[0]); //NOT DISPLAYED
    Can somebody tell me why this is so?
    I would also like to know if such components can be
    instantiated using flash.utils.getDefinitionByName.
    I tried it but I get Error #1065: Variable 'componentName' is
    not defined
    Could somebody please tell me what is going on?

    Hi bolaughlin,
    Thanks for you reply.
    Error 1065:
    import MyComponent;
    var comp:MyComponent = new MyComponent(); //Error 1065
    //Where MyComponent is the Flash CS3 clip that was converted
    to Flex component
    I have a workaround for this -
    I first add the component as an Mxml tag with visibility
    false and then remove the component
    with actionscript. Now all instantiations work normally (this
    includes all components in the SWC).
    <mx:Canvas id="container" >
    <local:MyComponent visible="false" />
    </mx:Canvas>
    and in <mx:Script>
    container.removeAllChildren();
    var comp:MyComponent = new MyComponent(); //Works
    var anotherComp:MyOtherComponent = new MyOtherComponent();
    //From the same swc; This also works.
    I have a feeling this problem is similar to the 'shared
    fonts' problem that
    existed with Flash MX and below.
    Anyway, even though I don't really know whats happening, my
    project can
    move ahead. Hopefully some Guru will explain this.
    Until then...thank you very much.
