Component in/ TV tuner.

Hi, I have a cable box that I would like to conect to my new iMac. It is capable of s-video out, component out, coax out, and composite out. It also has dvr.
I have several options I am considering. I could either get a TV-tuner for the mac, although I have an old one for windows. It does not need to do DVR, or record. just the basics.
Another option I found is to connect the box to a camcorder, and connect the firewire from the camcorder to the mac.
I also own a slingbox. This would be IDEAL, as I want to get the cablebox out of sight. However, I want to use it with a remote control. Not a wireless keyboard or mouse. Is there a way to do this?
What will be the easiest, cheapest thing for me to do? And is there a way to use a remote w/ the ir reciever for slingbox, instead of front row?

Why does a DVI or VGA look better than HDMI for 2nd Monitor

Why does a DVI or VGA connection for a program monitor look better than HDMI. I've tested this on several systems with CS5x and CS6. The full screen output from premiere definitely looks worse with HDMI.
I can often see visual differences with the Windows GUI as well, over sharpening of text and lines, harsh rendering of gradients. It looks like a VGA signal displayed on a television.
I've looked at the NVidia stetting and it appears to be set to 1920x1080 at 60hz either way, DVI or HDMI. On one Acer 20 inch monitor the was VGA, HDMI, Composite, Component, and Digital Tuner, but no DVI. The program monitor has always looked blah from the HDMI. So I recently switched the connection to a DVI to VGA adaptor, and now the video looks so much better.
Any thoughts or explanations?

Just because the monitors accept a 1080P signal doesn't mean their native resolution is 1920x1080. At 20 inch they very likely can scale that signal down to the native resolution of the panel which may be 1600 x 900 or another resolution that is 16 x 9 resolution. That scaling can be done by the GPU or firmware on the Monitor depending on the video driver options and the firmware options. That scaling is also the most common cause to text and icon blurriness you are talking about. As an example there are Pro monitors that accept a 4K signal but scale it down to 2.5K or 2K on the actual panel. You might try going into your video card settings such as Nvidia control panel and look for the scaling options. Select GPU scaling and see if the preview is better. If that doesn't work select no scaling and see if it's better if the monitor firmware handles the scaling.

Can not use Safari at all, just get a warning and its frooze whats up?.

Hey folks need your help with Safari issue. It started with pop up adds creating a new window and then I have to click it off, the add is about Mac cleaner. Then wen site were generated based on the site I was on, using their name asking me to take a survey. Now I just get a warning that says I have a virus and its frooze up on that screen in a loop. Can not find any solution as of yet, it all started with the latest up I got of safari. I turn on add blocker but that had no effect.

TV tuner Card for Mac with Component input

Hey everyone, I was hoping someone could help me find a good TV Tuner card for my MacBook. I found a few potentials, however I've yet to find one with Component input that would allow me to play my XBox 360 at a resolution of 1050p. This is the resolution of my stand-alone monitor, and with S-Video the resolution would drop into the 400's. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Itunes 8 - won't run - a required i Tunes component is not installed

I upgraded to iTunes 8 last night and following the install when trying to open open i receive the following error.
*"The itunes application could not be opened. a required iTunes component is not installed. Please repair or reenstall Quicktime (-42404)"*
I have re-installed both applications, uninstalled and re-installed, attempted to repair quick time still not working.
quicktime works ok, click on the icon and it oipens up and plays fine.
Please help. I just purchase my iphone yesterday also, an i am unable to activate it as i can't get i tunes to work.

To begin with, i tunes just quit working one day. it wouldn't open anything read any cds and ever time i tired to open it, it just popped up and error that it needed to be debugged or such. I had someone come look at it and they kinda sorta fixed it. i can now open it and listen to music. but i have to convert everything myself and add all my album work and it still wont rip cds or connect to my ipods. it says i need to have a 7.6 version or later. i went to download the new 8.0 verison and when it got to the end of installtion a box popped up that acess was denied and that it encoutered a error i always went and tired to reinstall quicktime and i tunes and deleting everything from it, and then when i tired to reinstall everything it still wouldn't install, its begginning to become very annoying and no one else knnows what to do.and i really need someones help... pLZ!!!!!!!!!!

If the above doesn’t do the trick entirely, then use the instructions in the following as it applies to the version of Windows you are using:
HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP
HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
You may be required to boot into safe mode to complete the folder deletion process.

The same for me. Using iTunes for years then the update to the new verison failed. Cannot find MSVCR80.dll and I did the reinstall as recommended on the error window. Disater, now I get additiona erros: Windows error 126 and Apple mobile divice cannot determine my priviledges, even running as administrator. From now on I will create a restore point before updating apple products. Never had a problem with itunes or any other Apple program in the past. I cannot find a thread where Apple reconizes the problem and is working a fix.

If you are still having issues with that error message, you may need to entirely remove iTunes, then reinstall it. You may find the following article helpful:

Note:
iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and aren't deleted by removing iTunes. I tunes updater missing component

My Apple Updater is missing some sort of component and won't update. I get an error message from Windows. I have tried to remove it in the control panel and it won't let me and says it's missing a windows controller. So I went into search and tried to remove the file and it won't let me do that either. I have also removed the entire Apple program and then went to i tunes and re-installed it and that doesn't help it either. Any ideas?

I also have this proublem, except my Updater language is set to Japanese. I have sent 2 support request to Apple. The first one I got back just said to make sure my Apple iTunes store language was set to English (it is) and I have not received a response from my second request. iTunes runs in English.

How do I set up HP TouchSmart 600-1215xt with TV Tuner to Digital cable set top box?

I just purchased the HP TouchSmart 600-1215xt CTO Desktop PC with TV Tuner ATSC-NTSC w PVR & remote. I want to connect it to my HDTV cable set top box (Cox Cable) so I can record TV programs from digital cable and stream NetFlix video to my 52 in Samsung 1080p HDTV. Where can I find instructions for how to configure this set up?

I have installed the Vista SP1, and when I try to see TV in media center, it says that "a required windows media center component is missing" or something like that.
When I try to configure it in the settings, it says that the hardware was not detected, and I have it installed, I can see that in the device manager.
Does some one have the same problem or have any ideas about how can I solve this?

I have googled a little bit to find out what this error message could mean but it looks like this error is not specific.
This mean that different reasons could causes this issue
In you case I presume that the SP1 is not fully compatible with the TV tuner driver or the TV tuner does not work and could be recognized by MCE due to the tuner driver malfunction.
Sp my first advice would be the Tv tuner reinstallation.
Firstly remove the old driver from the device manager and then after a short reboot install the new downloaded driver.
