Component out to firewire in MacBook Pro

I'll be covering a conference soon using 3 Pana HVX 200 cameras. The output of each camera (in 1080i mode) will feed component inputs of a Centrix switcher. I want to take the switched component output of the switcher and capture using firewire in FCP using my MacBook Pro with an external HD. Anyone know of a solution for this? Thanks!

Yes, but the part cut off the bottom of the first page should appear at the top of the second. No content should be lost, just split between pages.

Firewire 800 is the fastest and most reliable. Also it's bootable if you hold the option key down on a wired or built in keyboard. Not bootable via Airport obviously or if Filevault is used.
It's only your first clone that's usually takes the longest, it's shorter when it updates as you only do the changes which you can control to keep a pure clone if you wish.

Out of the Box MacBook Pro does not burn DVD DL

My new out of the Box MacBook Pro 2,8 Ghz, 500 GB HD does not burn DVD DL.
Its telling me something like "Servo Error" in Toast 10.0.4 and also iTunes with a big playlist in DataDVD burn mode does not get the job of burning a DVD DL done.
It makes me soooo sad.
I had problems with my DVD Drive on my Power Book G4 12", also on my MacBook 2,16 Ghz even after a repair it would not burn DVD DL.
So what to do?

Well since its a absolutely new MacBook Pro it should burn DL as stated on the Box. So I call the store and they will sent me a new one.That worked very nice and smoothly, so here on costumer care apple is on the very big side.
I hope the new one will burn em right away.
You know: Why do they put such bad drives in their so nicely build MacBooks? I don't get it at all. Maybe we are short before Bluray and so they putting inn all the old drives.... Who knows.
Its well know that apple is not using very good drives in their computers.

How can I get my data out of my broken Macbook Pro?

Is this a response of Apple to help me take my data out of my broken laptop? Is there a way of recording component video output to a MacBook Pro

I have a Sony DXC990P video camera head i.e. it has no recorder. It has several output of which component video is regarded as the highest quality. Is there a way recording this output with a MacBook Pro?

The matrox MXO2 is likely what you are referring to. It would be an extremely useful i/o device for you if the price is acceptable. It will have good resale value for a few years too if you ever wanted to get rid of it. With your camera's chip set and resolution of 850 lines you can capture via component to 4:2:2 color space by editing in a codec like DVCPRO 50 which is very efficient and looks great too. It is a big step above anything dv related which is 4:1:1 color space. If you ever drop your video signal down to dv quality you will take a big hit picture quality wise. Another device is the original AJA IO which connects via firewire and gives you component i/o as well as s-video, composite and digital component as well. The AJA IO's are selling on ebay for $600.00 - $750.00. They were around $2500.00 originally. You could also use an AJA LA which is basically the analog side of the IO and they are a little cheaper. Blackmagic multibridge is another product that is similar. These are all pro level equipment. You will need FCP.

Battery ran out, and now my MacBook Pro can't turn on?

My MacBook Pro ran out of battery 2 days ago, so I charged it up for like 2 hours before opening it again. It does not turn on, it takes an hour but still on the white screen with the gray apple logo. I figured letting it "rest" for the night will do the trick but the next morning, still nothing happened.
I tried looking for answers and came across the SMC Reset where you hold the left Shift + Ctrl + Option + Power button all together while charging. I tried that and the LED light on my MagSafe adaptor did change, so I thought yey it worked. But no, it didn't. It still won't open! It's driving me crazy. I also tried the Disk Utility repair where you press and hold Command + R after the chime, but my S.M.A.R.T. status appears 'Verified' so nothing's wrong, I even clicked the Repair Disk and then it says nothing's wrong. So I shut it down, and tried opening it one more time, and it still doesn't open.
I tried resting it for a day and it still won't open. And now I think I made it worse, because when I try to open it, the white screen with the gray apple logo will pop up but then for about 3 minutes it will shut itself down. :( My MacBook's resting for about 2 days now.

I tried the SMC reset (for the nth time), PRAM, and the Safe Boot. Unfortunately it still won't open. :(
When I tried the Safe Boot, the progress bar stopped at a certain length and won't load any further, and then it shut itself down. Like, 3 minutes after I tried doing the safe boot. I can't quite figure why it shuts itself down completely after a few minutes, I hope it's nothing serious. :(

Connecting kurzweil sp88 to GB I want to connect my Kurzweil sp88 to GB. The Kurzweil has a baffling array of buttons and possible MIDI channels. It also has the old style MIDI plug ins. I've got the MIDI out connected to my MacBook Pro via USB adapter.

I have my Kurzweil connected to my MacBook Pro via an adapter (old style MIDI from Kurzweil to USB adapter connecting to Mac). The Kurzweil has a baffling array of buttons and possible MIDI channels. First of all I do not own this keyboard. But a quick look at the manual (found on the internet) says that when first powered up the SP88 is in Internal Sounds mode. Meaning you hear the sounds selected when playing the keyboard. It also stated that the default Midi Transmit Channel is Midi Channel #1.
Looks like you would need to go to the SP88 Keyboard's MIDI SETUP and simply select LOCAL OFF. Now the keyboard should be ready to transmit Midi Out only and no internal sounds should be heard.
Next you may or may not need to do this but you might need to go into the Utilities Folder found in your Applications Folder on your Mac and double click AUDIO MIDI SETUP the keyboard Icon. Figure #1 below.
Next you need to make a physical connection from the Midi Out of the SP88 to the Midi In on your Midi Interface. Figure #3 below. You may need to Click on Add Device first. Figure #2 below.
In the examples shown below I have a Yamaha Electronic Drum Kit that is Midi Out only... not USB out. I had to plug a Midi cable from the Midi Out Port on the back of my Drum Module to the Midi In Port on the back of my Motu 828 Audio Inferface which is connected to my Mac. Next I created the Audio Interface and Drum Module "Devices" as mentioned above.
I then double clicked on the Drum Module and made my Midi Out Selections. Figure #4 Below. And once it was setup and the icons closed I used my mouse to draw a virtual cable connection from the Drum Module Out to the Audio Interface In. Figure #3 below. This is how I got my Midi Devices to talk to one another.
Once you have made your setup as I have outlined create a MIDI Instrument Track in Garageband, select an instrument for example a Piano then Record Enable that track in Garageband and see if you now hear what you are playing. In this example the SP88 is a Midi Controller only and you will only hear sounds selected in Garageband which is what you want.
Keep in midi your setup may be different than mine. You can keep your SP88 Keyboard on the default Midi Channel #1. That would be a good place to start. Garageband receives Midi on all channels.

Firewire 800 to Firewire 800 if the old one is the 24" or firewire 400 to Firewire 800 if the smaller 20" screen.
Restart the old machine in target mode by holding the t-key until the target mode screen appears, then link the 2 computers with the firewire cable and the old machine will behave as an external drive.

Firewire iSight & MacBook Pro Heat

I am able to use my firewire iSight with my MacBook Pro, but unlike the internal iSight, there is an awful lot of heat being generated. In a matter of about 30 seconds, the temp of CPU A Temp Diode climbs above 140º F. If I continue with the cam, the temp will rise above 160º.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Is the firewire iSight fully supported on Intel Macs?

(1) if you are using your Mac within the operating limits of MacBook Pro's technical specifications

Maximum operating altitude: 10,000 feet
AND
(2) if you are not blocking your MBP's air vents,
your Mac will take care of itself.
There are lots of MacBook Pro Discussions threads about CPU temperature, but I refer you to a couple of highly regarded MBP users, Ricktoronto and Kappy, in http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5210021
Read and follow the instructions in your manual and you should be fine unless your Mac needs repair by an Apple Authorized Service Provider. If you are actually worried about your Mac rather than merely curious, see your Service Provider for a professional check to be certain there is no problem.
