Component Out to my macbook pro?

I have a canon Vixia HFR20 with component out, how do I connect it to my macbook pro as a webcam?

When cameras first adopted packetized video via FireWire, that was the end of component Video inputs on the Mac. It has now expanded to certain cameras via USB, but there is no going back to the bad old days of component Video.
If you have a substantial Library of videos only in those formats, it may be worthwhile to have them batch-converted to a more modern format, rather than investing in pricey conversion gear.

can anyone tell me how to get sound out of my macbook pro. i bought a miniport display/hdmi adapter for my tv but in network preferences i got video to work but not sond. i cant get my tv to come up as a listed device so that i can change setting on output audio. i was told maybe something is disabled as devices so confused any help greatly appreciated 516angelo

Your Mac does not have a thunderbolt port, but has a mini display port instead. It will not output sound so you will have to get sound through a aux cable.

    Sulapeace,
for how long has your MacBook Pro been recharging? Has the light on your MagSafe connector changed color since you’d started recharging it? What do your battery level indicator lights show when you press the button next to them?

  • How do I get the coffee stain out of my MacBook Pro screen? Spilled coffee on it e

I spilled coffee on my MacBook Pro this morning .... used the cool setting on my blow dryer for 20 mintues to dry out the keypad ....
Switched it back on in 4 hours .... everything works , except I now have a coffee stain behind my screen .... is there a way to absorb that out
or do I have to buy a new lid for my computer ?

You might have to have a new screen installed.  It's not too expensive ($160) and it's DIY, if you have the right tools and skills.

  • Can I use the HDMI Out on my macbook pro retina for audio without connecting a video device?

While the MBP has TOSLINK output from the headphone jack, TOSLINK does not have the bandwidth to carry the high resolution audio from many blu-rays and DVD-Audio disks. I would like to hook my MBP to an audio-only HDMI sink so I can pipe the multichannel output to my surround speaker setup.
My concern is that the MBP will get "confused" and do one of the following things - both of which are "bad":
    1) It will decide that a video device is there, and put the desktop on the nonexistent HDMI display OR
    2) It will decide to send no signal at all (no video, no audio) because it sees no video device.
    Any thoughts on this?
In short - thinking of using something like this: http://www.ambery.com/2hddodtsdihd.html
with the HDMI out of the MBP and then piping its 6 discrete analog outputs to my old (but excellent for computer speakers) Logitech Z680 setup.
But I want any movie video to remain unperterbed on my Thunderbolt display. And if I am not watching a movie and am just listening to multichannel FLACs or something, then I'd like to run the media player normally and have the usual desktop on my MBP or Thunderbolt display.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks to all!!

QUESTION 1: Is there anyway that I can buy a new logic board with upgraded graphics card and it will work?
Not from Apple, you can go to the grey market if you choose but it is most likely that the only MB that will work is the one you already have.

I have also read a little bit into using the Thunderbolt port as a means to run an additional graphics card through, the hardware for it being built by a company named Sonnet.
QUESTION 2: Is this an option that will actually work with my Macbook Pro setup and give me better graphics card capabilities?
Maybe, if the Sonnet is properly Thunderbolt compatible it should.

  • My Macbook Pro 2014 ran out of battery while mid-slideshow. Now the slideshow won't skip through photos and I can't figure out why? Macbook Pro 2014 13-inch Intel i5 8GB RAM 128GB flash, iPhoto library is on external HDD

    Macbook Pro 2014
    13-inch
    Intel i5
    8GB RAM
    128GB flash SSD,
    Integrated Graphics
iPhoto library is on external HDD
I was in a slideshow, with around 1,911 photos in it. About halfway through, my Macbook ran out of battery. Now when I restarted and charged the Macbook and reopened iPhoto, the slideshow won't advance through photos, and I can't figure out any reason why it would do this.
I thought it may be corrupted, so I deleted and reinstalled iPhoto library, iPhoto itself, and disconnected and reconnected my external HDD.
This didn't work, the photos still won't advance.
I don't know any reason why this would be happening, and there is ample space on my internal drive.
I'm happy to provide more information if needed!
    Many Thanks,
    James

Make a few tests, James, to narrow down the problem and find out, if the slideshow is corrupted, your iPhoto Library, or settings in your account.
To test, if only your slideshow has a problem, create a new slideshow, just for testing. Just use "File > New Slideshow" and add a few photos. Does this slideshow play correctly?
If the test slideshow does not play either, create a new iPhoto Library. Use the File menu in iPhoto: File > Switch to library > Create New. Import a few photos and create a slideshow.  Does it play?
If even a new library does not solve the problem, test in a different user account (see this document:  Isolating an issue by using another user account - Apple Support):
This process involves creating a new user account, logging in to it, and testing for the issue.
Create a new standard or admin user account in Users & Groups preferences.
Use these instructions for OS X Mavericks.
See these instructions for OS X Mountain Lion.
See this video, or these instructions for OS X Lion.
Optional: If you have any specific files you wish to test with, copy (don't move) those items to the /Users/Shared folder in the Finder.
Log out of your current user account by choosing Log Out from the Apple () menu.
Log in with the new account you created.
Attempt to reproduce the issue you were seeing in your regular user account.
After you have completed testing, log out of the test account by choosing Log Out from the Apple () menu.
Log in as your regular account.
After you have completed all testing with the test user account, you may want to delete it. You can delete an account in the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences.
Note: Prior to deleting a test account, make sure you are completely done with it. If you have files in the Guest User you wish to keep, you should copy them to the /Users/Shared folder .
If you should find, that slideshows only play in a new user account, post back.

  • How can I get rice out of my Macbook Pro?

    Hi everyone,
a couple week ago, I splilled some juice on my Macbook Pro. I turned it off, whiped as much juice as I could and put my Macbook in rice. Since then, everytime I move my computer, I can hear the rice go through the whole body of the Macbook. I was wondering what would be the safest way to clean the rice out. Should I go to my nearest Apple Store or should I open it myself? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
    Thank you

Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible. The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down.
Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your notebook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse. Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.

  • DVDs that worked on the older computer get spat out in the macbook pro

My imac G4 could pretty much only read and write on Sony DVD-R Ver. 2.0/1x-8x. It could write on TDK DVD-R 8x but not read it.
Now the new macbook pro can read the TDKs with out any problems but not the many SONY dvds that I have been using on the imac g4. Is there anything I can do except sit and hope the firmware update (if and when it comes out) will fix this problem?
    MATSHITADVD-R UJ-857

From what I gather, it seems that the new superdrive is stuffed in the MBP so it isn't as forgiving as previous laptops. What I've read from other postings is that this particular drive is used in many other platforms, but the MBP is definitely the first to cram it in less than an inch of clearance. Apparently if your computer is running hot, you are more likely to run into some issues. There is no current firmware as of yet for these Intel based systems. So it is probably a mixture of both circumstances. Hopefully there will be some sort of solution in the future for these and related drive issues. Check out some of the other postings and some people have found which discs work better and you will find some interesting if not unorthodox techniques to solve the issues for now.

  • How do I get the absolute best performance out of my MacBook Pro while playing Minecraft/Java Based Games?

I pretty much want to know how to boost my laptop performance for the lowest price. Is there much to do after upgrading to 8 gigs of RAM and a Samsung SSD? Also is there anyway to upgrade a MacBook Pro early 2011 2.0 GHz i7 Graphics card?

you run into the limits of XP and built in graphics.
I would hope that you found in all these years how to install and get new moddified gpu drivers.
XP is limited and is 32-bit where each app gets 2GB address space also.
Windows 7 64-bit (or 8 even free for now to test out) otherwise wait to buy a new Mac.

  • Audio out jack malfunction macbook pro 15-inch (late 2008)

The audio out jack on my MacBook Pro is functioning intermittently.  I am sure this is a mechanical problem effecting the analog signal (no red light indicating digital output). I have checked the system prefs for sound-- output shows device connection and mute box is not checked. If I jiggle the plug I might eventually get a connection. Did a little research and the problem seems to be occurring in the 15-inch Unibody MBP from late 2008 (my machine) due to faulty design of the jack.  Most sites do not recommend replacement of the jack due to the necessity of resoldering to the logic board. Some suggested inserting a piece of tinfoil to tighten up the loose jack but I am not comfortable with this. Any suggestions out there?

And you need to install more RAM, I think.

  • Effective way to clean the dust out of your Macbook Pro?

Lately the fan on my Macbook Pro has been running a lot much more often & it has been making a lot more noise; mainly because it is clogged with a lot of dust.
Is there an effective way to cleaning it out? If so, how? Be detailed as possible.

I generally don't recommend those who haven't done it before to remove the bottom cover and administer self-repair.
Qtips and tiny paintbrushes is what we used at the laptop repair place to remove the caked on junk on the fan blades.
If a fan was removed by a authorized repairman to be cleaned, compressed air is used then Qtips with isoproply is used for a complete cleaning.
Its important to have your Apple store remove the caked on gunk on the blades causes stress to the fan hub and bearings which rapidly leads to the destruction of the fan, and if dead would cause your laptop to overheat.  A leads to B leads to C.

  • Dent out of box Macbook Pro

Just received my Macbook Pro Retina Display in the mail and there's about a penny size dent at the bottom right of the machine, what should I do? The computer works fine but this dent is going to make me go insane. Can I get a replacement with no issues?

Thanks for the answers. After looking at the laptop further, I realized that the bottom panel of the laptop is not completely flat and is sticking out some. So if I pick the laptop up from the front, the bottom panel makes a crunching noise because its being pushed closed. So this issue is a lot worse than what I originally thought it was. I'll be calling Apple tomorrow on it, and then update here what happens. Almost from the looks of it, it seems like this laptop was previously dropped and then packaged anyway.
