Component Value of Macbook Pro

Hey there,
So I have a 13" Macbook Pro that was purchased in December of 2010 that has been water damaged. There's some corrosion on the logic board and the battery doesn't charge up. Other than that though, it's a functional computer. I was planning on selling it for parts and was just wondering if you guys had any estimate on what the computer would be worth. I don't know too much about the value of the components, and want to avoid being ripped off by someone. Any insight would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Ebay is where the value of everything movable is determined nowadays. Check completed sales of similar machines for parts only. The fact that your logic board is bad undoubtedly reduces the value of the machine by at least half from what it would be worth used in working order.

You can try one of Apple's recycling partners to see how much they'll offer for it:

But you are likely to get more for it on ebay or craigslist.

  • DVI to Component video w/ MacBook Pro and NVIDIA GeForce 8600M card...

I just got a new MacBook Pro with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M video card. On the NVIDIA website for the card, it states:
"Integrated HDTV encoder provides analog TV-output (Component/Composite/S-Video) up to 1080i/1080p resolution".
I have a Sony HDTV that only has component video (Y Pr Pb) inputs (the red/green/blue inputs). It is capable of HD up to 1080i.
If the NVIDIA card does output an analog TV (Component) signal, it should work. However, when I went to the place that sells the DVI-to-Component adapter, I got some bad news:
    See it here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E8V0YI/ref=pdluc_sbs_0202
I wrote a question to the Sewell folks about this product and asked this:
Will this work with the dual link DVI-I port on my macbook pro? Graphics card info: Nvidia 8600 GT 256MB of GDDR3 memory Here is the link to the card's site: http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8600.html
    They answered:
Unfortunately this will not work. While the GPU may support the function, the Mac Version of the cards do not implement the component signal.
I think they are still thinking about the older MacBooks that use the ATI chipset and don't know about the new NVIDIA cards.
Is component really not implemented in the new MacBook Pros?
I have the 17" model that has more VRAM than the 15" and I got the HD screen upgrade.
Does anyone know any solution that will work with the MacBook Pro with the NVIDIA chipset? As I said, I'm trying to output an HD signal from the DVI port on the MacBook Pro to component video input on my HD television.
    Thanks for the help.

Sorry, the website for the Sewell adapter is here:

  • Better Value between Macbook Pro 17 inch stock or 27inc iMac i5 stock

I need some help, which would be the better value between a stock 17inch macbook pro and a stock i5 27inch iMac? Using it for school, small video and picture editing. Price not a concern, I'm just looking for the better value in the computer itself. Meaning resale, upgradeability, (plan to use for at least the next three years)!

I'm saying to myself why spend the additional $500 for a slower machine?
Um...because it's portable? Because if there's a blackout you can still use it for 8 hours? Because if you travel to another country you can still do your video editing there rather than waiting to get home with all that film and photography to do it? Because it fits in a bag and doesn't require a desk? Because it can be hooked up to larger monitors for presentations in class?
I mean, Dude, it may not seem like a "slower" machine is worth $500, but it's not cheap or easy to make something that is as fast and does as much as that 17" does in something that thin and that light. There is a battery, a camera, an light sensitive keyboard, a gorgeous screen, and all the other components squeezed into that narrow and limited diameter...and you think that's not wroth $500 extra dollars because it's slower than a 27" iMac? If you love the speed and power, go 27" iMac. It's a great, great, machine. Awesomely fast, powerful and beautiful. But don't tell us "cost doesn't matter" and "resale" is what you're interested in and then complain about the 17" costing extra but being slower. You're being dishonest about what matters to you there.
If cost of the machine and its speed matters (far more than portability)--and you want the fastest and cheapest, then it's the 27" iMac. If cost doesn't matter, and you want the best resale value for when you sell the machine after three years, then it's the 17" MBP. That's just how the market is. People like speed yes, but they love portability.
Edited to add: but you might want to wait. Many are saying that the MBP might get a bump to an i5 and that would improve the speed of a 17" considerably.

  • Importing Component Video to MacBook Pro

    Hi All,
I have a satellite receiver with a Y Pb Pr output and an HDMI output. I've recorded a few programs that I would like to transfer to my MacBook Pro. I'm confused by the available cables. Can someone tell me what cable I need and the procedure to import video programming into my MacBook Pro?
    Thanks,
    kayjh

Actually, after doing a bit more reading, I find that DVI doesn't carry audio (and sounds like it is an output from the port on my computer, not an input), so I'm back to square one. Anyone have success transferring digital content from a PVR to their Mac? there must be a simple way (??)

  • Is there a way of recording component video output to a MacBook Pro

I have a Sony DXC990P video camera head i.e. it has no recorder. It has several output of which component video is regarded as the highest quality. Is there a way recording this output with a MacBook Pro?
    T5G5

The matrox MXO2 is likely what you are referring to. It would be an extremely useful i/o device for you if the price is acceptable. It will have good resale value for a few years too if you ever wanted to get rid of it. With your camera's chip set and resolution of 850 lines you can capture via component to 4:2:2 color space by editing in a codec like DVCPRO 50 which is very efficient and looks great too. It is a big step above anything dv related which is 4:1:1 color space. If you ever drop your video signal down to dv quality you will take a big hit picture quality wise. Another device is the original AJA IO which connects via firewire and gives you component i/o as well as s-video, composite and digital component as well. The AJA IO's are selling on ebay for $600.00 - $750.00. They were around $2500.00 originally. You could also use an AJA LA which is basically the analog side of the IO and they are a little cheaper. Blackmagic multibridge is another product that is similar. These are all pro level equipment. You will need FCP.

  • The normal value of battery capacity for macbook pro

    Hi there,
I noticed my battery full charge capacity value is way below the technical specification from Apple.
    For macbook pro 15" early 2011 version a 77.5W battery is built-in.
However, so far after 4 cycle, my full charge capacity is 6913mAh.
It seems that I missed something. Though I didn't really notice the initial value when it's brandnew.
Statistically what's the average value of the new battery will be ? around 75W or 7500mAh? Any idea?

  • I have an Retina display MacBook Pro with HMDI out port. I also have an HDMI to Component cable with Audio Plugs. How can I get HDMI out to work with this cable when plugged into the Component and Audio ports on my TV?

I have an Retina display MacBook Pro with HMDI out port. I also have an HDMI to Component cable with Audio Plugs. How can I get HDMI out to work with this cable when plugged into the MacBook Pro and connected to the TVs Component and Audio in ports.

Will not work.  To my knowledge, dual converting like that isn't supported.  The Mac must detect the connected video output device and that sort of info cannot be done across an analog component uni-directional connection.

  • Connection issues with MacBook Pro and DVI to component video

How do I connect a 2007 macbook pro to a regular tv (non-hd) via the DVI port with component cables? The image is always scrambled. The connections are fine, what do I need to do?

    Concerning this comment:
I know that neither the adapter nor the VGA cable have a problem since I connected the computer to my 1080p TV and it worked just fine...
I would like to point out that 1080p has a lower pixel clock than will 1920 x 1200. So it could be the stability problem is only present when the pixel clock is at the high end of the range.
You could return the adapter and try another. A new one might have better margins. Another thing you could try is to use a utility like SwitchResX to lower the pixel clock and see if stability improves.

  • Component Out to my macbook pro?

I have a canon Vixia HFR20 with component out, how do I connect it to my macbook pro as a webcam?

When cameras first adopted packetized video via FireWire, that was the end of component Video inputs on the Mac. It has now expanded to certain cameras via USB, but there is no going back to the bad old days of component Video.
If you have a substantial Library of videos only in those formats, it may be worthwhile to have them batch-converted to a more modern format, rather than investing in pricey conversion gear.

  • Component out to firewire in MacBook Pro

I'll be covering a conference soon using 3 Pana HVX 200 cameras. The output of each camera (in 1080i mode) will feed component inputs of a Centrix switcher. I want to take the switched component output of the switcher and capture using firewire in FCP using my MacBook Pro with an external HD. Anyone know of a solution for this? Thanks!

  • Found rust on macbook pro component, can this be removed?

Hi, this is my first time having to post here - thanks in advance for any help.
I have noticed a small amount of rust inside my computer directly on top of the component as pictured
I purchased the macbook pro 13" refurbished at the end of 2010. This is the first time I've ever unscrewed and opened the back -  It has had one harddrive repair during the first year owning it, otherwise, never a problem.
I'm not sure what this means for my computer - whether or not it's repairable or on an inevitable way out... so I'm turning to you all. What can be done?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Make a backup of your files to prevent issues in the future. If your computer is working correctly, you shouldn't be worried about that. If it fails, take your MacBook Pro to an Apple Store or reseller.
The logic board will be replaced, so this will be an expensive repair. That's the reason why I said that only take it if it isn't working properly

  • Trade in value, 10 month old Macbook Pro Retina w/ WIFI issues?

I have a late 2013 Macbook Pro, Retina, upgraded memory from base model, 256 of awesome Samsung PCI-IE storage with the apparently very common wireless card issue. Web pages don't load, erratic ping times and high packet loss. It was purchased at an Apple store.
What is the common scenario one would expect if they simply want the new model, or would I be making an assumption that the wireless card issue was resolved at some point?
As a consumer, what would you expect?

I would have expected that you would exercise your warranty. We are only users like you. No one here can be expected to know what your scenario would be like. But every day you waste on these forums is one day less remaining on your warranty.
