Components don't start automatically, is that normal?

I installed the 9iAS R2 Portal Server, both the infrastructure and the portal.
I understood that the components should start automatically. I'm talking about the following comps:
-Internet Directory
-HTTP Server
-OC4J_DAS
-HTTP Server
-OC4J_Portal
-OC4J_Wireless
-Single Sign-On:orasso:7777
-Portal:portal:7778
-Web Cache
-Wireless
However, they don't start automatically. Or at least, they don't do fast enough and I'm assuming they don't do at all. So I'm starting them manually and that takes time.
Should they start automatically or not?

It depends on your platform. For Linux, UNIX and HP-UX, I am almost sure that these services need to be manually started after machine startup - unless of course (in the case of Linux) you have these start up scripts written and part of the /etc/init.d directory from where it is invoked at time of start up.
Re: your comment about it being funny that you should know this since you teach a portlet class for Oracle University......Oracle Univ Education is very pricey I would hate to think that I am attending a class where the instructor is not up to snuff on such basic matters.

if I execute command "startup open" in Server Manager (svrmgrl), then DataBase started

I've got the same problem.
However, I've found that if I set the OracleServiceXXX startup to manual, If I then issue a net start statement it works OK.
i.e NET START OracleServiceXXX

Composite effect don't start automatically with KDE4

hi,
so far so good my new Arch + KDE4 is running pretty stable, pretty good and wonderfully fast. However I have this [minor] issue of Compositte effect don't starting automatically with KDE4 log-on, I need to press Ctrl+Shit+F12 twice to activate it after all applications and Nepomuk loads or else I'll have a Plasma crash - which will reload itself with no significant issue to system stability.
KDE installed are plain KDE packages, not meta and my video card is a ATI HD5750 running latest 10.4-beta catalyst driver.

I could be wrong but...
1) Is the TNS listener running? (and then a DB instance)
2) Is the default SID (iasdb) correct? You might like to set the sid before you start.
3) I had loads of problems after I accidentally tried starting emctl as root. I changed the ownership of everything back to oracle:dba and then started it as oracle and all was well.
Maybe useful, maybe not?

Hyper-V - virtual machines don't start automatically after power outage

I have a HP server running Windows 2012 R2 + Hyper-V. On this server, four VM have Windows Server 2003 R2, and one VM has Windows 2012. After power outage, 1 2003 R2 VM and 1 2012 VM are started properly, but the other three machines aren't. I've started
it manually. All VM's have last version of Hyper-V integration tools installed, the option "Automatically start VM if it was running before the service was stopped" was chosen. I'm not very familiar with Hyper-V, so, I've investigated only Hyper-V-VMMS
event log. There are some recurring errors:
The Integration Services Setup Disk image could not be updated: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. (0x80070020).
and
Failed to get the disk information.
But I think it isn't a clue.
How can I clarify, why these machines aren't started automatically?

Maybe it is related to system resources allocation during the start up .
I would suggest you to configure a startup delay for those lower priority machines so that system
can locate enough resource for them.

Oracle 10g 10.2.0.1.0 +ASM don't starts automatically on win2003

Hello to everybody.
I have an Oracle 10g 10.2.0.1.0 database that uses ASM for storing and i deal with the following problem.
Whenever the server is restarted and although all oracle related services are started up automatically, the database doesn't starts and i have to start it up manually through sqlplus.
After that the database works just fine.
I've checked for errors in alert.log but didn't found any.
I've also checked the oradim.log where I found the following:

I found this metalink note:

It's a bug in 10.2.0.1 and a patch is available as pointed out in this note. 4547817 is a complete patchset (10.2.0.2), I think it includes the one-off patch. If you want to patch, you should go directly to 10.2.0.4 .

IPhoto (7.1.5) doesn't start automatically Quicktime player 10.0 with .mov

I'm running iPhoto 7.1.5, I'm using OS 10.6.2 and Quicktime 10.0
I don't know why all .mov sequences under my iPhoto library don't start automatically anymore.
I have to locate the original file into finder and double click the .mov file into its folder.
Does someone can help me

It's possible Snow Leopard is not compatible with all the settings in the older versions of iPhoto.
I don't know why all .mov sequences under my iPhoto library don't start automatically anymore.
Did it work prior to updating to Snow Leopard?

SAPservice started automatically

Hello everybody,
Last month due to some problem the sap service at OS level SAPRIS_00 is not started so I set Log on as local system account then the service is started (Before that it set to sapserviceris account). But Now problem is that when i stop the service for kernel update, after some time service is automatically start.
So please suggest How to solve the same. Also i want to start this service by sapserviceris account.

Hi!
When I update the Kernel then i follow the following step
1. stop the SAP instance, from SAP MMC
2. stop the service from the services --> SAPRIS_00
3. After that I take a backup of OLD KERNEL
4. then extract the new kernel file and copied to respective folders
But when i stop the SAP Instance, service, after some time it start automatically. so that
i unable to copy the remaining files
MMC tries to connect to the service and if it's not reachable it starts it.
when updating kernel, change startup mode to DISABLED, then, stop your SAP service.
If i stopped the service, then how MMC tries to connect to service?
In the above ref. please suggest me how to change the start mode to DISABLED?
Please suggest me, that , Above kernel update procedure is correct ? AND
How to change the start mode to DISABLED?

PC does not start when pressing the power button, After that starts automatically like a ghost!

I have HP Pavilion a6030in, My pc does not start when i press ther power button, but it starts after sometime automatically after that it works fine.
Again when i shutdown and leave it for sometime, and still the problem is unsolved.
