Composite and S-video

Does the 2009 mini support composite and/or s-video. If so, which cable would work best?

And no thnks to APPL for this terrible decision, worse for not making it clear up front!
It clearly states in the product description on their website what video options it supports.
We are now in the HDTV age so it is understandable that apple are not supporting legacy devices.
The same thing happened when apple stopped using their proprietary monitor connections and then again when they no longer supported ADC connections.
Technology moves forward all the time it a fact of tech life but unfortunately although this suits the majority there will always be a few that are disappointed.

  • Sound but no video through composite and s-video

I have a QIP2500-3 STB. My tv is a FHD2400, its a monitor by Gateway.
There is 2 other QIP25003 STB around the house. As welI, also get only sound and no video while using S-Video.
I've checked the wire, and there is current flowing but no signal.
Coax works fine, its only s-video and composite that does not work on all 3 of my STB.
I have tested the S-video and composite on my monitor with a DVD player and using the Wii. They work fine, its only the STB that does not display video on these ports.
The STB has displayed video through S-video and composite before. But that was before a black out that had occured.
After the blackout, S-Video and composite DID NOT work at all.
How do I get the STB to display video using those ports?
    OR
Should I simply replace my STB?

Never had any issues with the S-Video or composite on my 2 2500's.  Sounds like something may have fried during your blackout.  I would attempt to get the boxes replaced or get a service call.  I might also suggest adding surge protection to all the boxes (a UPS would be even better) if you don't have it already.

  • Best hardware for capturing component, composite and S-video?

What piece of hardware do you use or would you recommend to capture video for Premiere from a component, composite or S-video source (including audio)?

The Blackmagic Intensity Pro or Shuttle or the Matrox MXO2 Mini depending on what codec you want to capture and what your delivery will normally be for the material.

  • RGB, Composite, Firewire and S-video capture device for FCP

    Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone could suggest some of the better capture cards that support RGB composite, firewire and s-video inputs that will work with FCP.
The set up is on Mac Pro and the device needs to be as reliable and noise free as possible as it will be used for the capturing of video for evidence in court cases.
Any help is this area would be very grateful,
    Regards,
    Martin.

    Hello,
I have no experience with the AJA product line but I know that many of the folks here have used them. They make a good line of cards that will do what you are asking for. They don't have firewire on the cards, but the computer you are using should have one I would assume.
Since you said 'S-Video' my thoughts are that you are only using SD? If that is going to be the case for a long time then look at this card:
    http://www.aja.com/products/kona/kona-lse-ls.php
It has composite and S-Video inputs. IF there is the chance that you are going to be doing HD and IF it is still tape based, then look at one of the higher models. But again, that is if you are going to be upgrading to HD sometime soon.
    Hope this helps.

  • New aluminum Macbook and S-Video

    New aluminum Macbook and S-Video
It have come to the conclusion that the new MacBook's and MacBook Pro's can not output to S-video. I have tired the Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI and then the Apple DVI to Video but no luck, the two do not connect as the Mini DisplayPort to DVI is missing 4 pin holes. I have tired Mini DisplayPort to VGA and then a VGA to s-video adapter but no luck, the MacBook did not even see a second display.
Is there any hope to achieve my goal? I need s-video out for work and will have to exchange the computer for a Black MacBook if the new computer can not output to s-video.
    Any thoughts?

    _*It works!*_
    !http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3236/29803095101fb261f66ao.jpg!
I, and many others, have been looking for a way to output video (composite and s-video) from the NEW Macbooks and MacBook Pro's sporting the Mini DisplayPort since Apple as yet to release such adapter. I use my computer to output video (s-video) for digital slide shows and presentations. If our new aluminum MacBook could not meet this requirement back to the store it would go.
While searching the web for a adapter, converter or whatever could help get video out of the new MacBook I quickly learned ($10 later) that a simple VGA to s-video cable would not work.

    *NO GOOD!*
I soon came across the PC to Video EZ. It is sold at several online retailers but I finaly decided to buy it from NewEgg.com (links at bottom of post). NewEgg is retailer I knew I could trust and get fast shipping from. I ordered the converter box on Friday and it arrived today (Monday) with standard shipping!
Bottom line, the PC to Video EZ from GrandTec outputs video (both composite and s-video) at equal quality to Apple's own video adapters used on previous (pre-DisplayPort) computers. I, owning a MacBook Pro with DVI to video adapter, could not tell the difference.
The device itself is small. It is nothing you would complain about carrying around and it gets the job done.

The back of the unit has two VGA ports, one in and one out. You can use the VGA out port as a pass through so you can still have your computer connected to a VGA monitor while outputting to video. A feature I will never use but it is still nice to have, especially for desktops.
Also on the back is the video ("yellow" composite) and s-video out.

On the right side of the unit you will find a place to plug in the power adapter. Good news, its powered by USB. Bad news, the thing needs to be powered at all... More bad news, the unit does not use a standard USB cable. You better not loose the one that comes in the box! At least there are no power bricks to lug around and a simple USB to wall power adapter (like the one used with iPod or the iPhone) should also power the device. My testing showed that power is required.

The unit comes with every cable you would need which is a huge plus! Included in the box is a short VGA cable (3 feet, which is perfect), a s-video cable and a composite video cable.

(sorry for my bad english )
Hello guys i have a composition of video using this code in the first frame triger:
// sym.$("name") resolves an Edge Animate element name to a DOM
// element that can be used with jQuery

    $(video).html('<video poster="assets/poster.jpg" autoplay="autoplay" controls><source src="assets/videotest.mp4" type="video/mp4"></source>  </video>');
and it works ok alone, but i need rotate multiples compositions including this video comp. and the only code i founded is on this web :

  • Some problems with 3D with xorg 1.9.2-1 and xf86-video-intel 2.12.0-3

I have some problems with the upgrade to xorg 1.9.1-1 and xf86-video-intel 2.12.0-3. Glxgears does not run smoothly at all and I got 15-20 fps (instead of the normal 60 because intel should sync with the V refresh rate). Very curiously, these problems disapear if I move the mouse cursor somewhere in the screen. Then glxgears run smooth and I have indeed the expected 60 fps
There are no error messages and glxinfo say that 3D is indeed enabled.

I have indeed not seen other problems. Presently the only other software that I believe use openGL that I use is googleearth; which run fine. Could it be a problem with glxgears?

  • Composite or S-Video outputs?

'm curious what the options are to get a composite or S-Video signal out of the new (released today) MacBooks or MacBook Pros. The previous generation MacBooks had an optional min-dvi to video adaptor but I see no such thing for the new Mini Displayport.

It doesn't look good guys. Roughlydrafted reports:
    RoughlyDrafted wrote:
Support for composite or S-Video TV out is no longer an option. If you need to output really low quality, low resolution video from your Mac to a VCR or an old TV that doesn’t support digital inputs, you’ll have to settle for last year’s MacBook model. Like the removal of FireWire from the new MacBook, the loss of TV output is a bit aggressive and there’s no doubt that some might have a lingering need to export low resolution TV video from their laptop.
    http://www.roughlydrafted.com/2008/10/21/apple-and-the-mini-displayport/
I just don't know why, if you can get from Displayport to DVI and there's a DVI to composite adapter, why you can't output regular composite or s-video, but if this report is correct then it's a huge loss for us at a School where our staff daily output from their laptops to TVs around the campus.
Look, Apple innovate. And they chuck stuff out as soon as Steve sees the next shiny thing. Sometimes this is good. But this, plus the lack of Firewire is a big mis-step in my opinion.

  • G4 to Composite or S-video How-to

Alright, I have read all the posts on this forum pertaining to TVs and G4 MDD and cannont find a consensus. I would like to plug my MDD into my television via composite or s-video. I have 3 options and would like to do number one so if someone can help me out that would be great.
    1. Plug adapter into video card, video card switches from digital/analogue to NTSC or have a video card with s-video/composite out. If someone can give me a model number of a video card that allows either of these things to happen that would be great. Note, it must work on a G4 MDD, as many G5 video cards do not.
    2. Get external DVI to composite/s-video
    3. Get external VGA to composite/s-video
Like I said, I would prefer number 1, but if anyone has experience with dvi/vga to composite/s-video external converters that would be greatly appreciated as well.
    Timothy

You can use the ATI Radeon® 9600 Pro PC & MAC Edition RoHS 256MB AGP
<http://shop.ati.com/product.asp?sku=3170809> with the Apply DVI to Video adapter
<http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=16 193109&nplm=M9267G/A> The card has two DVI ports. One is dual-link, so can drive a 30" display.
The other card is the ATI Radeon® 9800 Pro MAC Edition RoHS 256MB AGP
<http://shop.ati.com/product.asp?sku=3170663> It has one DVI port (single-link), one VGA port, and S-video output (composite video with adapter). (You can only use two outputs at once.)
The cards may be available at <http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/video/hardware/>

  • Lost:  Composite to-S-video cable.

I have never had a use for the composite to-S-video cable that was supposedly shipped with my PowerBook 17 inch, circa May 2003 Now I want to do a PowerPoint presentation and need something to connect my laptop to a Dell digital projector. Right now, I have no information on which projector this might be.
Does anyone think I can find such or something similar locally, say at Fry's Electronics as I do not have time to order. Would they have a composite video cable which I understand I would need if I can't find or locate a composite to-S-video cable. Thanks.

Your system should have two output options: a DVI Output port and the S-Video port. Assuming you have neither of the adapters that came with the system, if you're close to an Apple store, go pick up the DVI to VGA adapter. Or Fry's also carries Apple adapters, as well as some third party adapters. On my work notebook, I plug projectors into the VGA port all the time.

  • Is there a way to stream video from an external camera to the iPad? Ultimately, I would like to have an app to annotate content and save video and stills. Thanks

Hi - I am completely new to the iPad apps world (other than as a consumer). My current laboratory workflow takes live analog video from a high quality camera mounted on a microscope, passes the composite signal through a digitizer and displays the digitized stream via USB with a program on my computer. I can watch, resize, and capture stills or video segments from the live video feed. I have good solultions to accomplish this for both Mac and the PC.
What I would really like is to get that live video on an iPad in the context of an application where users can capture still pictures and short video segments of the streamed content, annotate them with descriptive observations, and search in a  database for comparable images. Is there an existing technology that would allow me to handle at least the video display and capture aspect around which a specific app could be built? I am new to iPad so I have no idea how to do this. Everything I've seen is about watching pre-stored video programs that are already  on the Mac. Thanks so much.

  • Capturing video into Sony Vegas and s video doesn't funct

I can capture video from a DVD player through the ZS2 by feeding through the composite cables, but not s video. Feeding into the firewire port with a digital video camera works fine. However, I have to capture into Ulead, then move the clips into Sony Vegas where I want to edit. If I try to capture directly into Vegas there is some conflict keeping the program from loading, or it locks up the computer and I have to shut off the computer to get out. Also, I can't find what the cmss button is for.

    Hi,
To capture video using the A2 VE you'll need to use Ulead to do the initial capture. Once done and the video is on the PC you can then use your preferred Video creation tools to manipulate the file(s).
    Hope this hel
    ps.

  • In preferences does not exist "composite" or "S-Video"

    Hi,
In my Quick Time Player "preferences" does not exist option "Composite" or "S-Video" only FaceTime camera.
So i cant record my video from other devices.
    Can somebody help me?
    Thank you very much.

QuickTime Player to my knowledge does not have the capacity to capture from external video inputs, nor does any Mac have composite nor S-video inputs built in. You'll need a video capture device and appropriate software, perhaps iMovie if the video capture device doesn't come with software, to capture from such a video source.

  • Qosmio F30-140: How to make composite-in or video-in feature working

    Hi,
I was using windows XP MC version, but now I switched to windows 7 64-bit version and I don't know how to make the composite-in or the video-in feature work.
Does win-7 driver support this feature! or I need to use a certain software to make use of it?!
Another thing I'm missing in this new windows version is the Dolby effects equalizer.
Could any body tell me how to add this option to my sound card device or send me a driver that has this option.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
As far as I know there is not full Win 7 support for F30 Qosmio.
I found some Win 7 32bit drivers on the driver page but there are no 64bit drivers.
