  • SDN NetWeaver Composition Environment Subscription Installation

I am not sure it this is the correct forum, but here goes....
Earlier this year I purchased the full NetWeaver SDN subscription (AS ABAP + AS Java).  I eventually did get this installed, and even made it through the several days of post install work.  John Hosken's Cheat Sheet article helped a lot, but it still took me about 9 tries to get it installed and working.  The server would crash now and then, but found a forum post by Shaji Jacob (April 1, 2008) that suggested increasing the Java Heap, and everything has been rock solid since.  One other note, make sure you use the "S" id that came with your SDN subscription.  I now have several "S" id's; use the correct one helps a lot getting the keys.
About 3+ months ago, I decided to purchase the Composition Environment SDN subscription (CE 7.1).  Even though I am not a Basis person, I thought I could get this also installed and running.  Now, after about 2+ months of trying, including reinstalling the OS, etc. about 14 times, I am extremely frustrated.  I have sent several emails to the [email protected].  However, I am now not receiving any responses at all from [email protected].  Perhaps you are only allowed to ask a certain number of questions??
The CE installation always gets stuck on step 31 of 34.  I have looked through every log file I can find.  It also seems to generate a support.sar file.  I have extracted everything from support.sar and looked through everything there too.  I am not really sure what to look for, but I do see a couple messages about LABEL.ASC (I think I am picking the correct one, but not sure).  There were only 2 installation DVD's that came, and this doesn't seem to match the installation guide.  I also seem to see something about SAPControlHost service not running, but when I check, it seems to be running.
The last email I received from [email protected] told me to create an OSS Message, but the "S" and "P" ID's don't seem to locate any system in (www.service.sap.com/message ), so I can't even open a Message asking for help.  Now, my emails to [email protected] go unanswered.
Does anyone have suggestions/ideas/thoughts?  I was really looking forward to having both SDN Subscriptions up and running for prototyping etc., but now I really wonder if it will ever happen.
Here is a quick summary of my landscape:
    Customer ID:  7000858
OS:  Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Edition (running under VMWare Workstation v6.52 as a guest OS)
    Memory:  2.5gb
    Free Disk Space:  40gb
Any help, ideas, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Perry Sedlar

    Hi Satish,
First, let me apologize for taking so long to get back to you.  The project I am on is in crunch mode...  almost 24/7.
Anyway, back to your reply.  I viewed the services.  There are several items in the list related to MAXDB (e.g. MAXDB:  .DA1 (quick))   they all have "Manual" in the Startup Type.  Even though the SDN CE Subscription  install did not complete successfully (step 31 of 34 fails).  After the failed install, I opened up the Windows SAP Management Console and tried to start the server.  I then looked at the  icon for MaxDB.  I could login using ID "control".  I then clicked the online button.  After coming online, it shows the Data at 41%, Logs 0%, Sessions 1%, Data Cache Hit Rate 91% etc.  I then checked the services and it shows MAXDB: DA1 (the name I gave during the install) with a Status of Started.
I looked at several MaxDB Install logs, and they all seemed okay.  If you have any commands you want to run against my MaxDB please let me know.
I really appreciate your input.  It is frustrating that I have had the CE SDN Subscription for months, and have tried 20+ times to install it, and it always stops at step 31 of 34.
Can you think of any install logs that might help?
Many thanks again for your input!

  • Web Dynpro JAVA developer attempting to unravel Environmental Compliance source code seeks guidance from EC NWDS Composition Environment specialist

It frustrates me to have to ask for detailed instruction on this issue, but normal means of importing these Java-based EC software archives just aren't working in our NWDI system. We never moved our production WDJ applications to CE (like so many others we jumped straight from NW7.01 to NW7.3) but I'm doing my part to come up to speed on composition projects. No matter how we create the NWDI track and import the software archives and dependencies, we can't get to a state where we can successfully import a project (product?) from the Development Infrastructure into the Composite Explorer perspective.
I need to know specifically how I, an experienced WDJ developer with no exposure to CE, can take the five .SCA files that contain Environmental Compliance 3.0 and get the project into my NWDS 7.31 workspace in a workable state, on my local system, without NWDI. Actual code modifications can wait for the moment, I just need to analyze the classes and EJB's to identify where we might want to make enhancements, and where/how to use the provided Enhancement Spots. I've followed the links, downloaded the .pdf's, read the online help, stepped thru the tutorials - I've done my due dilligence. It's common knowledge that Composition Environment is no longer recommended for new development, and as the EH&S programs are converted to WDA there are even fewer resources to look to.
These specific types of pleas don't often return results, as I have learned over my years in this community, but nothing ventured-nothing gained, and I am no longer afraid of looking dumb or being scolded. I just need help.
As always, points will be awarded.

    I agree in part Tobias.
Because the source code is in the SCA within the src.zip file within each SDA.
What does not exist within that SCA Standard is the SOURCEARCHIVES folder. In that folder should be a file (the extension .dcsa) for each DC (component) that SCA Standard.
In short, yes it is possible to perform a reverse engineering...
Just import the SCA Standard in NWDS.
Note the name and type of all DCs, its dependencies and its public parts... yes, it's a lot of work, as there are many interdependent DCs.
Done so, create a new workspace in NWDS and create a new SCA in DI (custom), inside it create all DCs with the same names and types (and dependencies)... identical to SCA Standard.
And soon after, entering the SRC folder of each of these projects (DCs) and replace its contents with the contents of src.zip file that is contained within the SDA files within the SCA Standard.
That done, we will have an SCA Custom with all representative of the SCA Standard DCs, but editable.
I agree it is not nearly a good practice, or even that SAP indicate that this is done... however, it is possible yes.
    Att,
    Angelo

  • SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment 7.1 - SR3 fails to start

I have just installed SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment 7.1 - SR3. When I start the server, it fails to start with the following message -

From what I can make out, it is failing to compile the JdkDetect_6068.java file and hence the server is failing to start. If someone has come across the same issue and know the solution please do let me know.

    Hi,
Funnily enough I downloaded this last night.  I had no problems at all leaving it running for about 4 hours and it downloaded all in one go.  I use a piece of software called GetRight to manage my downloads as it supports resuming and has a few other useful features.  There is a free trial version you could try to see if it helps in this case.
Do you have any other possible issues with your connection that may be causing your problems?

  • SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment 7.1 Trial Version On Windows VISTA ?

My system meets all the other requirements, except that I have vista on my laptop. Has any1 tried installing  SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment 7.1 Trial Version on vista before...??? Is it possible???

    Hi Ripudaman,
CE trial version does not support vista .. Vista version is suppose to get release in 2008. Following is the system requirement mentioned in the document
Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2) or Windows 2003 Server (Service Pack 1)
The J2EE Preview has also been tested successfully with Windows 2000 (SP3) and Windows XP (SP1), but is certified only for the two Windows versions above
(Note: If you use a Windows XP account without a password , SAP Management Console can not start/stop your instance via Web Service - use system services instead)
    NTFS file system
Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher or Firefox 1.0 or higher
At least 1, 5 GB RAM, 2 GB are recommended
    1.5 GHz PC or higher
7 GB free hard disk space
Monitor 1024x768 pixels or more, 256 colors
Internet Access (for CE online documentation)
If no DHCP server is available on your network (which dynamically determines the IP address) or your computer is not connected to any network, you need to install the virtual interface adapter MS Loopback Adapter.

  • Consuming web service in SAP NetWeaver 7.1 Composition Environment

    Hi,
I have created webservice in ABAP. can anyone help me out how to consume that in SAP NetWeaver 7.1 Composition Environment.
    Thanks in advance.
    Dhanu.

    Hi Dhanu,
There are several ways of doing this:
    1) Publish your web service onto the Services Registry. If you are using CE 7.1 EHP1, you could refer to my blog for this: /people/romit.ghose2/blog/2008/11/21/using-a-simple-ui-to-publish-web-services-to-the-services-registry-in-ce-711
If you are using a previous release, you would have to use the web services available for publishing.
    2) Directly enter the WSDL path and create a consumer proxy for it in NWDS.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Romit

    Hi,
Iam trying to download the SAP Netweaver Composition Environment 7.1 Trial version.Which version of JDK does this support and also the version of Java Cryptographic Extension Policy Archive that i need to download in order to install?Where to download them from?

SAP NW CE 7.1 comes with SAP JDK 5, so you don't need to have any JDK installed in advance.
The JCE Policy Files can be downloaded from [http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index_jdk5.jsp] --> Other Downloads at the bottom of the page.
