Compositing in KDE with intel 2.6

Ive just installed a fresh system with kdemod and latest xorg/intel. But I cant enable compoisiting in kde when using kwin, ive tried enable compositing via xorg.conf, having the only thing in there being load composite extenstion. Im using modesetting, any ideas how to get it working?

Compiz works very fine for me. I dosnt get slow with the time, have a lot of plugins (more or less usable ) and it supports KDE very good (since the new Version).
So Taskbar is transparent, the tray works good and so on
is compiz 0.9 in some repository? cause main-plugins dont build for me...

  • Compositing in KDE sometimes doesn't work on Nvidia hardware

I tried searching whether similar issue was already discussed on the forums, but didn't find anything; sorry if I missed it.
I have two different systems with Nvidia hardware, one with a 9500M GS, and another one with a GTX 580. After updating to KDE 4.11 (as far as I remember, this issue started appearing at about that time; now it still happens with KDE 4.12) compositing in KDE sometimes doesn't work. By "sometimes" I mean that once in a while I boot the computer and compositing isn't working, then I reboot and everything is fine. Sometimes hitting Alt+Shift+F12 twice helps, but sometimes it doesn't. I didn't gather statistics, but it seems to happen on the 9500M GS system more often than on the GTX580 one. On the former it happens once in about three boots, while on the latter it's something like once per ten boots, but I may be wrong.
I use proprietary driver, since I sometimes use the computer for gaming, and the opensource driver is still not quite up to the task. Btw, games work fine even when compositing doesn't work.
I haven't noticed any similar issue on my other machine with Intel graphics.
If anyone could help in identifying the cause, I would be much obliged, because I have no idea where to start searching.

Good guess but even if I miss the word or any text, in normal use it still brings up the menu (with options limited to 'zoom in' and 'zoom out'). When I'm not getting the menu for word correction I'm not getting any menu in the body of the document at all - it's strange!

  • Can PC software work on the iMac G5 with Intel?

Can PC software work with the iMac G5 with Intel processor? I need to know! And also, is there a new apple computer coming out next year (2007) that will be able to run PC software? I am mainly asking because I want to know if I will be able to run PC games on iMac G5 with Intel or the new computer coming out in 2007. I need to know!

Just an idea for you. There is an entire Apple Discussion forum dedicated to Boot Camp and Windows XP.
Whereas, not everyone here with an Intel iMac has installed, tried to install or has experience with BC & XP, everyone there has or at least has an interest. You may attract help more quickly there.
The Forum is at the bottom of the main Apple Discussions page under Windows Compatible Technology.
    Here is a link;
    Forum: Boot Camp Public Beta
Panther was the version of Mac OS X before the current version, Tiger. Apple Computer does not release information in advance of its introductions of new hardware/software and the rules of the Apple Disussions forbid "speculation." Boot Canp is Beta because it is not yet a permanent part of Mac OS X. It works fine. It does not require constant updates. It comes with instructions for its own installation as well for Windows XP SP2. You have to purchase Windows from Microsoft. Folks report that games run fine and that Windows runs better on their Macs than it ever did on their PCs!
Visit the Boot Camp forum at the above link for further info.

  • Low Volume with Intel HDA ALC889

    Hi,
I have a Intel board with Intel HDA ALC889 and I get sound out of it without problems. To get a half-decent volume, I have to set all volume controls (i.e. Master, PCM, Front) to 100 %, but sometimes it is still too quiet. Additionally, when I increase Mic Boost for Skype, all that gets louder is the background noise.
Sorry for the German locale, but here is the output of aplay -l:

Is there any solution to get a better volume?
    Thanks in advance.

    No one with a clue?
Well, I already tried to set
    options snd-hda-intel model=intel-x58
according to http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation … Models.txt as I'd say my board is nearest to a X58 board. But that didn't change anything.
Can it be a hardware "problem" or something else? Until now, I'm unwilling to spend money on an additional sound card if there is a solution...

If it is not currently supported is that then due to a bug / oversight and in that case is it something that will be fixed in the near future?

Is my desktop really just an external hard drive alreadt in 5 years? I just purchased a mac book pro 2012 and also have a 3Gs iphone I just want to have a happy apple family ; )

Your computer is compatible with all of those OSes, but may need more RAM to run 10.7 or 10.8. As the RAM requirement is the same for both 10.7 and 10.8, don't bother with 10.7 unless you're using software incompatible with 10.8.

    Retail Leopard disc looks like this;
(The disc itself has the same logo). If the one you've got is grey it simply won't work.
Given the retail and second hand prices of Leopard (usually some on Amazon MP), you'll probably find it cheaper to go directly to Snow Leopard, although there could be software updates and printer driver problems that could nullify the difference.

Virtual PC for Mac will only work for the older PowerPC Macs.
For the newer Intel Macs look at either Boot Camp from Apple <http://www.apple.com/bootcamp> or Parallels <http://www.parallels.com>. The performance of Windows with either of these solutions far outweighs Virtual PC.

  • 2 External Monitors with the T430s with Intel HD4000

I have read several multiple monitor threads but could not get a clear solution to this.
    Model: I have a T430s with Intel HD4000 graphics.
Desired set up: 2 External Monitors + Lenovo LCD
Problem: It seems that I can only drive one external monitor. I'd like to drive two external monitors, as I did previously with my T420.
What I've tried: I have a dock and have tried VGA + DVI for the external monitors, as well as DVI + DVI. Neither setup has worked. It always greys out the third monitor in the Windows Display options.
Any thoughts on how to drive two external monitors with the T430s? Clarity is appreciated. Thank you!

    RobertWerner2 wrote:
If I'm reading the link you provided correctly, can I correctly assume that I CAN connect two external displays with just the W520 Laptop and NO docking station?
I tested this today.  You can connect two external displays (1 VGA, 1 DisplayPort) without a docking station.  The result is 3 independent displays - the ThinkPad LCD, the VGA monitor, and the DisplayPort monitor.

  • I have a MacBook Pro with Intel Core Duo and Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Want to upgrade to Lion to take advantage of icloud. Is there anything I can do without getting a new MacPro?

I have a MacBook Pro with Intel Core Duo and Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Would like to upgrade to Lion but it requires a minimum of Intel Core 2 Duo. Can I get what I need or do I have to buy new MacBok Pro?

I also have a core duo MBP with Snow Leopard and it runs perfectly.  There are very few things it cannot do as compared to the faster, newer MBPs, but that is attributable to the CPU, not the OS.  There are some who view Lion as downgrade rather than as an improvement.  If there are important applications that reqire a fast CPU or Lion features that you find essential, by all means get a new MBP.
I have an aphorism:  Obsolescence is more often a perception rather than a reality.  Besides the silver keys look much classier than the black ones.
    Ciao.

Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?
See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

  • Window 10 build 10041 does not work with Intel 82579V Gigabit Ethernet on ASUS motherboard

I originally posted this question here:
    answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_update/window-10-build-10041-does-not-work-with-intel/6729892f-83aa-4822-b20a-ea84f4fd06c7
and was asked to post it on this forum...
I updated a computer I have which is a quad core i7 that I built and includes an ASUS motherboard with Intel 82579V Gigabit Ethernet built in. Windows 10 preview 9926 worked fine with this network adapter. Window 10 build 10041 does not, and I have tried
it twice so far. I even went as far as buying a Thunderbolt-Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (Broadcom, sold by Apple)... and while it installed the driver automatically, it did not work either. Each time you try to view the properties of either of them, it locks
up or give an error. In fact, doing much of anything with the Intel adapter icon assures you of not being able to do a clean reboot... have to kill power.  I have finally gone back the previous version 9926, which has its issues but no where near as bad
as not having any network connectivity!  Does anyone have this issue and a workaround?
Note, there are two images on the windows 10 preview forum that I posted this question on. I could not post the full link as I was getting a message here that links and graphics are not allowed.

Thanks Roger, I posted the following yesterday in the other thread (thinking it was this thread - confusing after they moved it here)... It may be that the new driver fixes the issue that 10041 has with it, but I have not tried that yet. If I do I will update
    this... Thanks!
I have more information about this, which basically exonerates any issue with the Intel 82579V Gigabit Ethernet hardware or software. I have 3 computers with Windows 10 preview so I have multiple angles to see issues from. With this I have found a culprit
(but I suspect not just the only culprit) in this above mentioned problem...
10041 build combined with installing (or attempting to install) CISCO VPN Windows 7 64bit 5.0.07.0440-k9 client causes the issue mentioned above. I confirmed this on a completely different machine with a totally different Ethernet adapter. First machine
is an ASUS motherboard in a tower system I built, with the Intel 82579V Gigabit Ethernet hardware built in. Second machine is a Gateway Laptop from 2008 which has a Marvell Yukon 88E8057 PCI-E Gigabit adapter built in. Build 10041 will work fine with my 2008
laptop, including the MS VPN client (which I have tested). However, if you attempt to install or even uninstall the Cisco client you will have to do a recovery to a restore point (as I have done twice) in order to get your network working again. Installing
or attempting to install (because it never even does install properly and times out), CISCO VPN client will render your entire network unusable. Going back to a restore point saved me and I am still running 10041 but I can't use CISCO VPN client any longer.
I could with build 9926, including on all 3 machines. I now have 9926 on two machines and 10041 on only the 2008 laptop.
Hopefully this above information helps someone resolve the issue. I will also mention, even though my network is working on the 2008 laptop, I still can't go into the Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections and right mouse click on the Marvell
Yukon 88E8057 PCI-E Gigabit adapter icon. I get an error when clicking on Properties menu popup : "An unexpected error has occurred". So something is still up with my network adapter driver or windows software, but it could be a side effect of all
that has happened with the Cisco software install attempts under 10041.
Another note: CISCO Anyconnect also has the issue.
