Compressing a 3 minute sequence thats 900mb down to 100mb for web use

I have a montage Thats around 900mb and I need to compress it down to 100mb, so I can post in on the web. I was wondering what is the best way of doing this without loosing much quality. Also Is there a way of changing the frame size in comprressor, or do you have to do this before hand?

Omg-- you've referred me to a book. This may solve my problem in the long run, but won't cure my short-term madness. It's an interesting article. It'll take me til mid-afternoon to go through the steps he recommends. I appreciate the help. I admit, I was looking for a "hey- try this" answer.
My question was vaguely worded. I'm exporting from FCP to Quicktime conversion. This is where my picture is getting squashed. I haven't tried to send it to youtube yet coz every time I save it into a file, it's a squashed picture.

Converting sequence or QT file for Web use

I have a short 13-minute sequence that I need to convert to a QT file in order to then convert to flash for posting to our Web site. I've done this multiple times today with no luck in reducing the file size. By exporting using Quick Time Conversion, using my default settings for compression (H.264) type, the file size of the final .mov file was 200-some MB. After changing my settings to a lower quality final product, I now have a file .mov that is 2GB!?
I have several files that I'll need to convert QT files for posting to the Web. The lengths range from 5 minutes to an hour.
Can anyone give me any kind of advice on the best way to convert to a QT file resulting in a smaller file size? If I am making something very simple, very difficult, please lend your thoughts!

FCP may estimate unusual time remaining but usually that estimate is not accurate. When I export to H.264 very often it appears that FCP hangs on 7% but thing is it eventually will encode within 15 minutes. Circumstances change from case to case (machine specs, length of movie, export settings).
Set an IN and OUT on a portion of your timeline and export again to test quality and the time your machine require to encode.

OK, this may seem like a stupid question for most of you but I haven't used FCP for years. I am trying to make and upload a 2 min video to the web and don't know how to turn it into a size of 100MB or less.
Yes, I realize that I have Compressor but it does not work on my computer for some reason. I think my laptop is too old for it or something.
It needs to be in one of these formats and I would like to use the highest quality. Suggestions needed for this also since this will be my first attempt at an uploaded video.
.MOV, .WMV, .AVI, .MPG, .3GP, 3G2, .QTL, OR .MP4

First, let me apologize for the way we were chatting on your thread while waiting.
Let me summerize what I think we have here:
1. You have a 2 minute show you want to convert to some codec appropriate for high quality presentation, but under 100MB final filesize.
2. You feel you don't want to use Compressor or a preset for YouTube.
3. You're in a hurry.
The fastest and highest quality method of making this conversion is using Compressor. It is designed to do precisely what you ask. The codec you want is H.264.
The YouTube preset is being suggested not because we think you're going to upload the clip to that site, but because the YouTube preset is a remarkably easy way to get a HQ H.264 clip with acceptable filesize. I'm staring at a 3:40 clip of 1080p that would knock your socks off and it's 90MB!
Even on a laptop the conversion is a matter of minutes.
If you're OK with my arguement, I'll write out a step-by-step proc for you and you can be done with this in time for that primetime show you want to watch. OK?

Licensed? Yes, but not necessarily for the web. Some licenses allow use in print or images but not the web.
Custom Web Fonts
For legal reasons, don't just assume you can use any font you wish on the web. Fonts are protected by intellectual property laws in much the same way that software is protected from unlawful copying, modifying or distributing. In other words, a font owner can say "Sure, you can use my font but you can't alter it, you can't reproduce it and you can't distribute it." On the web, that's a deal breaker because you need to be able to do all three.
These font-families are common to most Windows/Mac systems.

Down payment request for assets using bapi_acc_document_post

I'm posting a down payment request to an asset with a z program using bapi_acc_document_post. Everything is fine, but, when i go to fb03 to check the generated document i don't see the asset number associated to the purchase doc. When i go to bseg to check, i don't see the asset number and the subnumber. I lack just these to fields even i'm passing the values to correct fields in bapiacgl09.

Hi Eduardo, what i'm trying to do is a down payment request for an asset. Indeed, i do the post. My problem is that the asset main number and the asset subnumber are not getting saved in bseg, so when i go to fb03 and double click on a line item, i got prompt to fb03 in visualize mode, and the fixed asset field is blank.
I have now a week trying to get the asset main number and the asset subnumber getting saved in bseg. I note that i have other field that are not getting saved 'cause i'm not passing the value thru the bapi. This field is LNRAN.
If you or anybody have a clue how to solve this, i would appreciate the help.

Export Compression for Web Use

Hi All
I've been through the forum and seen a lot of posts on the "art" of compressing files for use and transfer on the web while wanting to maintain quality.
I understand that it requires some tweaking of the frame size, the frame rate, and the data rate to get the optimum file size versers quality.
I've moved from iMove where export was simple(tho files were large) to FCE and I'm finding that the learning curve is very steep.
I've recently seen a video on Vimeo http://vimeo.com/10022953 which is stunning quality and only 36.5 MB with a frame size of 1280 x 720. I'm wondering if anyone has an idea how he may have achieved this. The Codecs that he has used are AAC, H.264, MPEG-4 ODSM, MPEG-4 SDSM. I'm wondering if it may be necessary to use another compressing software to convert the exported full size QuickTime movie file to a quality file such as this.
Any ideas???

While waiting for comments to my question I contacted the producer to the video that I referred to above. When in doubt go to the source.
His reply is…
"I use the setting in Quicktime X, go to: File - Save As and in format select 1080p. Easy as pie"
So I gave it a shot and I managed to get an awesome quality video at a greatly reduced file size, similar to what he had. I also discovered a powerful tool in Quicktime X : File > Save for web. This gives other great sizes and extra files and code for hosting on your own servers.
If anyone has any other ideas I'd love to hear but this has fixed me for the moment

I have a mac version of Photoshop Elements 12 Editor. I have been using the products for a few months with no problems until recently when I try to save for web (after the preview is shown), the program will shut down by itself when I click the "Save" button.

There's a saved application states folder at the same level as the Preferences folder. Delete anything in there for PSE.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
What about free space? Do you have enough free space on your iPad? With iOS 7 it is recommended that you have 15-20% of the storage space on the device free. For a 16 GB device that is 2.4-3.2 GB free. For a 32 GB device that is 4.8-6.4 GB free. For a 64 GB device that is 9.6-12.8 GB free.

Compressing movies for web use

I have just finished a movie which is now about 6 gb. I do not have a .mac or iweb account. I am looking to upload this on youtube or myspace. However, it needs to be down to about 100 mb.
How can I convert this to a wv format or anything of lower quality??

have a look in its options:
1) select "for TV"… that generates an mpeg4 ("iPod" generates h264)
2) push Quality slider to the far right, max... click expert options (my user interface is German, correct?)
3) youtube.com requires 320x240
4) bitrate & fps: you reduce the final file size with that; and you set the quality.. NTSC has 30fps, but 15fps cuts the size in half... but movements aren't as smooth...
for publishing that files on your own site, 500-700 kB/s result excellent quality, 200kB/s still acceptable 8depends on content & your personal threshhold)...
my experience with youtube.com: it adds ALLWAYS compression artifacts... no sense to go beyond 300-400 kB/sec
5) you should choose deinterlace
and you can spare some MB by reducing audio quality, I do use 60kB/sec, 22050HZ, mono...
to give you an impression of resulting quality, watch both demo movies on my HowDidYouDoTHAT website (some tricks with iMovie...), in the section Filmstrip ... my demos are .mac hosted, the YouTube demo was uploaded and is on my website embedded...

I would like to know if they is any app or something that I can use to lock the ipad down for small business use.
The last thing I want is my employees checking their facebook on my ipads.

What's the need for a business plan thousands of people buyt touch pads and computers every day and don't know how to use them. More or less they end up being paper weights. Beside the restrictions are instented to stop misuse. And who said he didn't have a business plan. the ipads replace pen and paper and so employee enter information directly into the server. This lets the employee be mobile and still do their work. It's being done in places all around the world. Ipad is an computer for the most part.

That's why these companies build in this security stuff any way. You are protecting your investment by taking the proper steps to make sure that the equiptment is not misused. Where do you work where your Boss let's you do whatever you want on his or her computer. Play games? Get viruses?
You seem to making some kind of special assumptions because it's a ipad.
Same this goes for printers, copying machines, and coffee machines. You never give people unlimited access to any thing unless you wan to call the service man 20 times a week.

Time it takes to transcode 72 minute sequence using SHARE option?

I have a 72 minute sequence that I've currently exported to the iPod format using the SHARE function in FCP 7.
I've left it overnight and currently it's going on over 12 hours and it's still not complete.
Should it take this long?
Some specs:
Nested sequence
Timecode Reader filter used
MacBook Pro
OS X 10.5.8 (not snow leopard)
2.2ghz intel core 2 duo
2GB memory

The sequence was shot in HD - however, the sequence was rendered. Mind you that I haven't used any filters so there is minimal rendering involved.
After 13 hours, I decided to stop it and am currently trying to export as Quicktime Conversion using the default settings. Currently it tells me the Estimated Time will be about 9 hours. And I'm a little nervous because it seems to be stuck on 11% for quite awhile!
The thing is, the 72 minute sequence is nested. Within there are about 30 -40 sequences.
I had about 15 sequences that totaled around 20 minutes that I converted to iPOD setting using SHARE and it maybe took about an hour. So I guess that's why I thought 13 hours and counting seemed wrong to me. As well, when I started up SHARE there was an indicator that said it would take about 6 hours, but when I checked on it this morning it disappeared.
I have Timecode on the full 72 minute sequence because I'm handing off the project to a musician who needs it for reference which is why I haven't split up the sequence into separate clips.

There is an example in the \TestStand\Examples\Database directory. Basically there are two ways to connect to your database.
1. You can use the TestStand database step types. There are steps for opening/closing a database connection, opening/closing an SQL statement, and a step for performing a data operation.
2. The other way is to use the TestStand database logging capability to write your results to the database. This is the way I would recommend. With database logging, you use the step results container to record all your results as the sequence runs. (This is done automatically by TestStand). When the sequence is complete, the process model calls a "Log to Database" sequence that will write the results to the database. You must define your datab
ase schema using Configure->Database Options. There are some default (or example) schema definitions already defined. Refer to chapter 18 of your TestStand manual.
Another way to log the data as the sequence is running is shown in the \TestStand\Examples\OnTheFlyReports. This has the advantage of recording data as it is obtained, but it is not as efficient in terms of using a database connection. I don't recommend using this method.
Please post again if you have any more questions. If you are using stored procedures with your database, I can probably give you some tips.
