Compressing a folder of zip files how small does it make it

Hello,
I'm trying to put a lot of files on two DVDs and it would help me to know if I zip each file in the folder then zip the folder who small can it get.  Right now my folder size will reduce by 2 megabytes 7.17 GB TO 7.15 GB

You can try using gzip in Terminal with the highest compression ratio (9), but you will not squeeze that much more, and will take longer to compress.
Consider using DL DVDs

  • Can I delete files once I compress them into a zip file?

    I am trying to get more space in my hard drive. One of the suggestions is to compress files I don't use. Once I compress them into an archive zip file, it looks like the files are still there.  I'm thinking that I should delete the original files but am afraid to do so. What percentage space do I save when I compress?

    What percentage space do I save when I compress?
    That depends on the type of file. Files that are already compressed, such as most media files, won't get smaller, and they may get larger. Text files will compress by about half, on average, but that will probably save a negligible amount of space.
    The right solution to your problem is to move the files you don't often need to an external hard drive. That drive must be backed up along with the internal one.

  • Split a ZIP File in smaller Chunks / payloads on ECC 6.0 (NOT PI)

    I call a external web service directly from ECC6.0.  In one of the proxy class's methods I need to send a zip file. I can generate ZIP file using SAP supplied class. The file size of this zip file 150 MB and I want to break this file in smaller chunks say 2 MB chunks. Is there a FM / Class / some way to break this file into smaller chunks?
    Appreciate your inputs
    Thanks,
    Vikram

    Hi Vikram,
    You can use the FM DX_SPLIT_FILE to split the zip file.

  • How do i get folders to show thumbnail previews, instead of just a folder icon. Like how windows does thumbnail view.

    I have a massive amount of folder with pictures inside each folder, is there a way for the folder icon to show whats inside, like how windows does it.

    Hi Tweedy -
    No, you can't use the .NET code directly in DIAdem.  I'm not sure what the point in suggesting it was, as it would take significant modification to be able to use similar code in DIAdem.
    Have you tried using the VIEW Legends?  Expand the legend for each graph and then double-click on the legend, at which point you can configure what information shows up about each curve.  By default, the legend will show the Curve Name, Curve Units, X-Position (of the cursor), and Y-Position (of the cursor).  Feel free to augment or contract this as needed for your preference.
    After expanding each legend, switch to the Curve Cursor, and you should be able to see the Y-Position of each curve, completely synchronized.

  • Compressing PDFs into a zipped file I can email to a coworker

    How can I compress a bunch of PDF documents that can be emailed to a coworker that probably has a PC?

    Hi keelyindra: Quite easy actually. If the files are not in a common folder, highlight as many files as you need right click (Control) Click and from the resulting menu items, select "compress items". If they are all contained in one folder, simply right click on the folder and select compress.
    Hope this helps

  • How small can I make the boot camp partition on my MacBookPro internal drive?

    it seems that in order to get Windows7 on to my old non supported MacPro 1.1 that I need to firist install onto this mid 2009 MacBook Pro I want to do the install onto an external firwire800 hard drive which I have formater and Downloaded and installed the Windows support folder using the boot camp installer but the installer wants to grab 20 gig of my internal drive for the win 7 install what is the minimun that I must have on the internal drive to install and use win 7 on the external drive?
    is ther annother way to get Win7 onto my MacPro1.1 where it can live on an internal drive of its own. I do not have have it running on this MBP5.3 other than to get it running (64 mode) on the old tower In addition to the MBP I have at hand the esternal drive a blank 16 gig thumb drive and a firewire800 external DVD drive that I use mostly as a burner on the macpro as it is faster than the internal superdrive that it came with

    I assume that is a product so then I can remove the bootcamp partition from my internal drive and boot to the firewire 800 drive or do I need to have a SSD drive inside the macbookpro first?

  • How small does the the liquify brush go in PE12?

    In Photoshop CS3 it goes down to a single pixel and it also did that in the original PE, But I used PE6 once and it didn't define the brush by pixels - it defined it by levels with the smallest level "1" being quite a few pixels across.
    I was hoping that in 12 they might have gone back to having the option for a really tiny liquify brush.
    Many thanks for any help.

    Yes, it goes to 1 px.

  • How do you use zip files?

    Hello all,
    I have always stayed away from ZIP files (as in doing it myself, to my own files), since my days in Windows, after all the countless corrupt ZIP files I received from others, that simply would not UNzip...
    But recently I've come across references to them again, and I realised I might be missing a trick or two....
    Any comments on the following would be appreciated:
    1.) What can I use them for?
    As in - could I ZIP my entire folder of holiday pictures - all 13GB's of them?
    Or is there some sort of size limit, where anything over, and things become problematic?
    Are some file types Zipped better than others?
    2.) How does it actually work?
    As in - what happens to my original files?
    Assume the holiday pics are Zipped - do the orginals get compressed, or can I select it so that copies are Zipped, as a kind of backup?
    3.) How safe is it?
    As in - assuming my hardware and software are all OK, nothing buggy etc. - if I create the ZIP file, pop it somewhere on a USB/External/the same laptop, and then Unzip it later, when I need them again - am I correct in assuming that the chances of the file being corrupted, are relatively slim?
    And coming back to those holiday pics - could the compression process result in a loss in picture quality/resolution, were I to then unzip the file? Or - assuming everything works as planned - will the quality of the pictures/file emerge exactly the same as they were prior to being compressed?
    I realise all of the above are ridiculously simple questions - but googling this doesn't really help, as most sites simply explain the how to, not the WHY...
    The WHY articles were probably all written 15 years ago already... I'm just very, very far behind....
    Thanks in advance!

    Zipping an image file should have no effect on image quality, as the image data is not actually changed.
    Note that there's very little point in zipping a folder full of images, unless the images are not a compressed file type. You can't compress data that is already compressed - in fact, trying to do so often increases the file size - and JPEG images, for example, are already compressed.
    For the most part, you don't need to use zip at all. I absolutely DO NOT recommend storing your files and/or folders on the hard drive in compressed form as a space-saving measure. It doesn't save enough space to be worth the time needed to compress files large enough to warrant it on a modern drive. Accessing zipped files is a pain, too, since you basically have to decompress the whole thing in order to access a file inside a zip file.
    Zip becomes useful if you need to attach a large number of files to an e-mail message (zip the files, then attach the single zip file) or want to create an archive of multiple files to download from a web site through a single link. In other words, in situations where you need to transmit many files over the internet, especially where Windows users may be involved, zipping files can be either important or a convenience.

  • How to get the entries in a jar/zip file contained within a jar/zip file?

    If I want to list the jar/zip entries in a jar/zip file contained within a jar/zip file how can I do that?
    In order to get to the entry enumeration I need a Zip/JarFile:
    ZipFile zip = new ZipFile("C:/java_dev/Java_dl/java_jdk_commander_v36d.zip");
    // Process the zip file. Close it when the block is exited.
    try {
    // Loop through the zip entries and print the name of each one.
    for (Enumeration list =zip.entries(); list.hasMoreElements(); ) {
    ZipEntry entry = (ZipEntry) list.nextElement();
    System.out.println(entry.getName());
    finally {
    zip.close();
    Zip file "java_jdk_commander_v36d.zip" contains two zip entries:
    1) UsersGuide.zip
    2) JDKcommander.exe
    How to list the entries in "jar:file:/C:/java_dev/Java_dl/java_jdk_commander_v36d.zip!/UsersGuide.zip"?
    The following code:
    URL url = new URL("jar:file:/C:/java_dev/Java_dl/java_jdk_commander_v36d.zip!/UsersGuide.zip");
    JarURLConnection jarConnection = (JarURLConnection)url.openConnection();
    zipFile = (ZipFile)jarConnection.getJarFile();
    would point to "jar:file:/C:/java_dev/Java_dl/java_jdk_commander_v36d.zip", which is no help at all and Class JarURLConnection does not have an enumeration method.
    How can I do this?
    Thanks.
    Andre

    I'm not sure I understand the problem. The difference between a zip and jar file is the manifest file; JarFile is extended from ZipFile and is able to read the manifest, other than that they are the same. Your code
    for (Enumeration list =zip.entries(); list.hasMoreElements(); ) {
    ZipEntry entry = (ZipEntry) list.nextElement();
    System.out.println(entry.getName());
    }is close to what I've use for a jar, below. Why not use the same approach? I don't understand what you're trying to do by using JarURLConnection - it's usually used to read the jar contents.
    String jarName = "";
    JarFile jar = null;
    try
        jar = new JarFile(jarName);
    catch (IOException ex)
        System.out.println("Unable to open jarfile" + jarName);
        ex.printStackTrace();
    for ( Enumeration en = jar.entries() ;  en.hasMoreElements() ;)
        System.out.println(en.nextElement());
    }

  • How to prevent automatically opening of downloaded zip-files?

    I have a problem to install an extension in Joomla. Joomla asks for a Zip-file. When I download the zip-file from the website, the zip-file is shown in Finder as a folder, i.e. an opened zip-file. Joomla does not see a folder, because it looks for a zip-file. I have a terrible solution, but I am sure others will know a better one. I used my old Windows computer, downloaded the zip-file that in Windows shows the extension .zip. Copy the file to Finder and now it shows in Finder the file as a zip-file. So, I suppose that my OS X (now Yosemite, but it happened already under Maverics) or my Safari changes a zip-file in an opened form. I could not find a way to change this to the state that Safari, Finder or OS X is not automatically opening zip-files.

    Choose Preferences from the Safari menu, click on General, and uncheck the box to automatically open safe files.

  • Acrobat 9 tries to open all .zip files

    Acrobat 9 tries to open all zip files I attempt to download - not just zipped PDF's. Under folder management, the zip file type is not associated with Acrobat and is not showing with a PDF icon. The zip file will not open in any unzipping program, it just goes to Acrobat.
    When I download any zip file I get a message like this:
    Acrobat could not open "somefilename.zip" because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged.
    This happens with every zip file - how do I disassociate Acrobat from all zip file types?

    You need to change the file type association in Windows Explorer of the Folders Control Panel.
    The easiest way would to use Windows Explorer to find a file with the ".ZIP" file extension and then use the right mouse click to bring up the context menu. You can then select the "Open With..." option, make sure you check the option to set the 'always associate' (it is the only option) and then find WinZip, PKZip, RAR, or what ever program you use to open the "ZIP" type file.
