Compressing a group of footage at once

Hi There,
Is it possible to compress a group of individual clips all at once without doing drag the setting and destination onto each one individually?
Transcoding some footage and really don't want to do 50 clips individually but all with the same settings.

You are probably overwhelming that little laptop.
Why not break things up into multiple batches.
Create batch. Import 30 clips. Apply preset. Submit.
Create new batch. Import 30 clips. Apply preset. Submit
rinse and repeat.
After one batch is complete, compressor will start in on the next.
It will still finish in the same period of time and you won't have the crashing from the thumbnail problem (my quess).

I solved the problem a couple days ago. The mistake I made was that I neglected to shut Firefox down before making the changes to persdict.dat. Once I did that, everything worked as I expected it to work after bringing Firefox up again. I guess that's the equivalent of what you suggested. Thanks for your response.

Urgent help need to compress 4 hrs of footage onto 1 dvd

hi people any one know the settings i will need to compress 4 hours of footage onto a single layer dvd? the footage is of a seminar so not much action but will still need best quality possible have been using compressor 2 and got a complete head ache as lowest settings state i can only fit 174 minutes on a dvd that coupled with the compression times of over 185 hours at times. so im gonna re install compressor 1.2.1 and try again with that
but any help would be greatfully appreciated

If it was me, I'd be looking at using BitVice to create a half D1 file... pretty much half the file size, and by most people's accounts a better quality than MPEG1. It works by reducing the horizontal resolution - the DVD player re-sizes the footage and there is pretty good reproduction.
Any encoder that can create the encode at 352x576 will be OK, but I know Bitvice will and have used it to do so. Since the file sizes are smaller for the same bitrate, you can fit twice as much footage on. You can easily get 4 hours of Half D1 onto a DVD-R.
Have a look at this graph to get more of a feel for how the different resolutions can work. I don't necessarily agree with all of the info there- the notion of 'fair' quality and 'good' quality being subjective terms and not always applicable to all source types or motion types, etc... but it's a good starting point nonetheless.

I have a problem regarding a tiff image. I need to create a compressed Group 3 Fax tiff file. I am using JAI, and I cannot find a way to compress it as a Group 3 Fax. When I use TIFFEncodeParam.COMPRESSION_GROUP3_1D, the file is being compressed as CCITT Modifed Huffman RLE, and when I use TIFFEncodeParam.COMPRESSION_GROUP3_2D, the file is being compressed as TIFF Bitmap (TIF) Group 3 Fax 2D.
My requirements are to create a compressed TIFF Bitmap (TIF) Group 3 Fax. Do you have any ideas?

How to delete a group of podcasts at once on iTouch

I know that I can slide left-right to delete a single podcast on my iTouch. However is there anyway to do it to a group of podcasts instead of going through each podcast one by one?
When I slide on a group of podcasts, it opens the list of podcasts inside that group.
Please don't show me how to use iTunes to sync. I'm only interested in doing it on my iTouch or if not then a way to drag and drop but not syncing.

Footage changes once color project is loaded from disk

Hi all,
I have a big problem in Color 1.0.4.
I send a 20 minute edit from FCP to Color. All is fine. The edit is the first part of a marriage service. A shoot taken with two camera.
I did originally put the sequence together using Multi-Cam, but then I replaced all the clips with the originals as I had problems when I first went into color with this.
The problem is that one of the angles appears to have lost the information as to where the INOUT points are...This happens once the color project has been loaded from disk. (ALL is fine until I shut Color and reload the project). The sections in the sequence where this camera is used always plays the source file for that camera from the beginning. (A shot from outside the church!) This is causing me all sorts of problems and I cannot seem to get past this. I need to save the work and then re-open in FCP to see what the grade looks like as I don't have an external monitor.
Any help with this would be appreciated.
The thumbnails show the correct footage from the camera. Adding a section to the render queue results in a render of 1 frame. Even though the IN and OUT points on the Color timeline show roughly 20 seconds, the render view shows an in and out point one frame apart...

What is/are your sequence codec/settings?
I know I get this sort of behavior on my external monitor if I've got a Kona export settings mismatch, but not on the timeline.
When you observe the application running back to "first frame" on park, but finds the correct images on play, sort of infers that there is a broken reference somewhere in how FCP is recalling the media.
Bad container? frame rate mismatch?
But before you re-edit, can you save the effort to this point by "Baking out" a movie of the sequence?
It would be at least interesting to know if QT finds the right media at your edit points. At that point, a fairly straightforward movie could be razored and sent to COLOR...

Best compression type for camcorder footage archiving?

I have an increasing amount of "raw" digital camcorder data that's been downloaded onto my Mac, taking up increasingly large amounts of disk space. I'd like to archive much of this to DVD or an external hard drive, but may well want to edit it at a future date in FCP.
My question is, what compression format should I use? I'm looking for something relatively "future-proof" in terms of likely developments, but will have as little visible loss as possible. I don't need ridiculously small files - a reduction of anything over 50% of the current 13BG per hour would be a start.
I have Compression Master 4.1, which seems to offer an amazing amount of codecs, formats, rates, etc.

If you captured all the footage (I assume DV) properly in FCP, in other words, with timecode. Then there is no real need to archive that footage. Just keep the original tapes and make sure to keep your FCP project file and any other non timecode material you may have used... music, graphics, titles etc.
If you ever need to re-edit a project. Simply open the project and re-capture the footage.
If you compress it to archive it's gonna look bad next time you use it and you will not be able to match it to any existing sequences.

That's a display issue, and display issues are best handled by the front end.
What is your frone end?
If it's SQL*Plus, you can use the BREAK command.
For example:

DVCPRO HD 720p24. There is an Easy Setup in FCP for this...if you capture from tape. And if you capture via firewire, you can only get full quality. If you import from P2, it only comes in at full quality as well. By full quality I mean ZERO loss. Firewire capture is a data transfer.
And also, another good compression for a sharable file?

Instead of using the plus sign, click on the silouette of the person in the line above that and select multiple names while holding down the shift key. Then click on either the "To" or "Cc" or "Bc". Exit the addresses and your names should appear in the appropriate line in your email.

My group tabs are lost once I close Firefox. According to the NY times article of April 21 2011, these tabs are supposed to stay on your browser after you shut it down.

I have the same problem. As soon as I close Firefox and start a new session, the tab groups are gone. And No, "clear history" is not checked in my settings either. Please fix this - this is a great feature and I would love to use it! (Running FF 4.0 on Win Vista, 64 bit system.)

thats tough man, yeah exchanging it is the best option. But why do people always leave a message saying" i'll probably just by an ipod" and it's usually followed by, "even though i don't like apple or ipod" . I mean fine, if u feel like giving up on the zen micro thats fine, i personally don't care if you're going to buy an ipod. for god sakes ipod isn't even the next alternati've mp3 players, theres plenty. Can't delete group of emails at once.

When I click on Mail on my IPad2, I used to click on Inbox and could open both of my mail accounts. Now, I only get the Inbox for one of my accounts (all the Inbox button does is open and close the list of emails in one account). Also, in the column that opens on the left, listing each email, there is no longer a "delete" option. I have to open each individual email to delete it.
Is there a bug in the update? How do I resolve this?

No, it's one at a time, then you can delete all once in trash.

Fixing Animorphic footage in once non-animprphic sequence.

Here is my problem:
I captured some HDV footage into fcp. It is in a DV/DVCPRO animorphic format. The clips look correct in the Viewer. They are all 'animorphic on', and they all display in a 16:9 aspect ratio.
My mistake was to create a sequence that was not animorphic! I edited all my clips together, and now I'm ready to export. However, my piece is now in 4:3, with the footage letterboxed!
I went to the sequence, and set it to be anamorphic. That didn't fix it, as now the footage is still letterboxed, and stretched inside a 16:9 aspect ratio. When I brought the same clips over again, they did fit properly into the 16:9 aspect ratio. But all the previously edited clips are still letterboxed.
Beyond bringing over every clip and basically re-editing; is there any way to make the existing clips in the timeline fit back to the correct 16:9 aspect ratio?

Create a new blank anamorphic sequence. Select all from the 4:3 sequence and paste into the new sequence. Then drag the handles to expand the (looks letterboxed) picture until it fills the anamorphic frame.
Actually, this is incorrect considering that the clips in question here are actually anamorphic, and not letterboxed 4:3.
Try this instead:
Alter your current sequence settings to Anamorphic
Select all clips (Command-A)
Bring up the Remove Attributes dialog (Option-Command-V or control-click), then select Distort from the left-hand Video options. Click OK.
This will remove the automatic distortion that FCP introduces when placing anamorphic clips into a 4:3 sequence, allowing your anamorphic clips to fill the frame.
If you've got any Freeze Frames that you've created from the Timeline, they will need to be recreated (since those frames will be 4:3)
If you've already adjusted the Scale of your clips, in step 3, select Basic Motion as well as Distort.

Close a Group of Alerts at Once?

I have the Mail app in Notification Center set to provide alerts for new mail. In the morning I frequently have an entire set of alerts piled up on the right side of my screen. This is helpful, as I can scan them and choose some to reply to. However, it's a drag to sit there and click "close" over and over and over again to remove these alerts. In Mavericks the pause between the closing of an alert and the next one coming up is even slower than ML.
So I am wondering if there is a way for me to close all alerts with one click. I have tried an Option-Click on a close button, and other combinations of keys. All the alerts are Mail alerts, so it has seemed to me that such a combination should exist which would close all alerts of a certain kind.
Does anyone know of a way to do this?
