  • Anyone know how to get subtitles into Quicktime movies?

With Quicktime now supporting subtitles. Does anyone know how import subtitles into Quicktime movies?
After following the instructions from Apple's support pages for timed text, I tried pasting in timed text. This displays text below the video in an ugly black bar, but isn't recognised as subtitles by Quicktime. Ideally, I'd like to convert srt files into a compliant format, but without knowing the correct format, it's a little difficult.

There haven't been any really clear instructions on how to get subtitles into QuickTime movies yet. Apple has posted a QuickTime component that will convert an SCC file into QuickTime and you'll find that here.

  • Import a .srt or .sub file into QuickTime movie

How do I import a .srt or .sub file into QuickTime movie (i.e. pre-made subtitles). I don't want to burn or create a new copy of this movie. I'd just like to view this movie (which is in Italian) with the *.srt subtitle file that came with it.
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   QuickTime 7.1.6

Thank you Dave, but unfortunately I've tried both of these. Well, I don't have QT-Pro, just the regular OEM version and incorporated the TitleLab components to my Library > QuickTime folder, but to no success.
Do you think that this TitleLab software will work properly on OS X 10.4 and QuickTime 7? This product is designed to run on the following operating systems: Mac OS Classic, Mac OS X 10.1 & Mac OS X 10.2...
So, the upgraded QuickTime 7 Pro doesn't have a native subtitling ability? That's unfortunate!
I also tried the Perian "JackKnife" beta version. It doesn't quite work... It pretty much places the subtitles in brand new blank screens (not aligned with the film at all). I.e. The film will run, talking will occur, then the screen will go blank and the subtitles will appear at the top, then the subtitles will disappear (after the same duration as the film portion) and the film will resume... Essentially, it's messed up.
    Thanks. Maybe another suggestion?

How do you move a quicktime movie from one iphoto library to another?

1 - export it from Library A via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu with Kind = Original.
2 - import it into Library B as you normally would.

  • Need to export Movie to Quicktime Movie w/ similar file size and quality.

Let me preface in that I am not in the video editing profession. Many times I have exported my work to the professionals. I'm sure knowing what you're doing is half of the battle. Here is my dilemma. First, I'm using Quicktime pro just to add a text track to the movie. I  then save the file as what Quicktime pro calls Movie .mov. This looks good and has the quality of the original .mov and the small data size. However, no other player than quicktime will recognize the text track. I then tried exporting from Movie to quicktime movie format (still .mov, can anyone explain the difference of the two .mov types???), but I find that the image quality is poor. Yet, in the quicktime format other players (except windows media player) recognize the text track. By poor quality I mean that I think what I have is the blocking effect. I assume that this is due to the bitrate being to low. Again, I would like to keep the file size low and managable for data storage and downloading purposes. I was hoping that in the end all video players would be able to have no issues.
My current file sized are all less than 1MB and are of good quality.
Just adding a small test track the Movie .mov is still less than 1MB
The size of the image is 512x512
I should also say that I'm a PC user with a quicktime pro windows version. I'm sure that doesn't help me one bit!! However, I believe my issues are more with the fact that I'm not experienced in compressing files and knowing exactly the right settings.
Here is what I've tried thus far. Movie to quicktime movie
    H264 codec
Current for fps (Which is in the original is 8fps)
    Key frames automatic
    frame reordering checked
I've tried Automatic data rate and setting the bit rate, even at 2000kbps (the quality is low). My original movie with the highest kbps is only 1151kbps and has no artifacts
    encoding Best quality multi-pass
    custom size 512x512
    deinterlace checked

am i correct that this 'my photo stream' process is not removing any image data?
Yes,  as long as you have iPhoto's iCloud preference pane configures as follows:
You're be getting the full image file, pixel dimensions, etc. which is essentially a bit by bit copy of the photo on the Phone.
When you add tags and other metadata and export the file out of iPhoto as a jpeg with the checkboxes selected to include that metadata there will be some image compression.  However, if one chooses High or even Medium JPEG Quality one will be hard pressed to detect any image degradation unless printing very, large prints or otherwise displaying the image at a very, large size.
I ran a test on a 1.4 MB photo from my iPhone  and compared the original to two exports, one at High and the other at Medium JPEG Quality and got these results:

  • Is it possible to update my SD Movies into HD movies?

I bought serveral movies in SD with itunes. Is it possible to update my SD Movies into HD movies?

If you purchased them in SD, you have to re-purchase the HD version.
However, if you've already purchased the HD format in the past, then you can change the resolution to download them (go to Preferences > Playback Preferences > Preferred Video Version, and then select SD, 720p or 1080p)

  • Trouble when formating finished movie into quicktime!!!NEED HELP!!!

Okay this is urgent! I am done with my video project but when I click "Share" and choose "Quicktime" and then select "Full Quality" and it compresses pretty quickly my movie is only about 3 min. long. When I go to play the Quicktime video of my project about halfway through the video the video playing halts like a pause, but I still hear the audio playing. What is wrong???!!!???? I need help fast!!!

Does your iMovie play ok within iMovie? How long is your movie before you try to export it to QuickTime?
Try closing iMovie and deleting its preference file: YourUserName=>Library->Preferences->com.apple.imovieplist.
Trash this plist file. Reopen iMovie. Try to 'share' it as quicktime movie again. Depending on how long it is, this may take a while.
If this does not help, post back.

  • What settings to use when exporting HD into QuickTime Movie

This help call goes out to any Mac user with Final Cut. I need help!!!
I have a Mac G5 and use Final Cut Pro V. 5.1.4. I Just bought a Canon XH A1 and filmed a few test shoots. Then downloaded to FC Pro. I have been trying to export using QuickTime Conversion. Every setting I have tried comes out more or less square. HELP!!!!
    My Settings:
In Easy Setup - HDV - 1080i60 FireWire Basic
    Under Sequence the setting is:
    Frame Size - HD (1440X1080) (16:9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio - HD 1440X1080
No check mark in Anamorphic 16:9
    Field Dominance- Lower
    Editing Timebase - 29.97
    QuickTime Video Settings:
    Compression - Motion JPEG B
Under Export - using QuickTime Conversion - QuickTime Movie - Options - Video Settings:
    I tied:
    HDV 1080i60 and 50
    Motion JPEG A and B
    DVCPRO HD 1080i60
    All settings come out squarish!!!

    Hi Patrick,
Thanks for the info. But I can not get any setting to come out looking widescreen. All settings come out square looking. I have tried every setting I can think of but all the QuickTime exported movies come looking like (i.e.: 800X854) more box than widescreen. I think it must be some setting I do not know about or some combination or possibly the capture setting (easy setup).
    Thanks for your help.

  • How to put dvd project into quicktime movie?

I am doing some slideshows in iPhoto and in iDVD and want to get them into iTunes. Some I have been able to drag and drop into itunes but some will not work that way. Some show the green + sign but do not copy. I have tried to import  to itunes and that does not work. From what I have read it looks like I need to convert to quicktime movie first but I have not been able to find anything that works to find how to do that. Please help.

iDVD encodes your projects for burning to a DVD and that is it; however, iMovie can share to a variety of places (online) and to iTunes. FWIW, your movie is in a quicktime format before you get it into iDVD - it is formatted there as an mpeg-2 (I believe) which is the standard for video on DVDs  to be played in DVD players.
So, why don't you use iMovie? It is a lot better than iPhoto; if you wish to use iPhoto, make your slideshow there and then import into iMovie.

  • Convert a whole iDVD project into quicktime movie

Is there a way to convert a whole iDVD project into a quicktime movie?

    jcc31 wrote:

    Yes, but slightly longwinded:
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
Once it is iMovie you can export from there as a Quicktime movie.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

  • Aperture albums into Quicktime movie?

    Hi,
Is it possible to create an album (book) in Aperture and then create that album as a quicktime movie that can then be e-mailed (as 5mb)?
i.e. so that each page can be viewed like a slide show as part of a movie.
    Cheers,
imac G5 iSight 20" not intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Canon 350D iPod Nano Aperture 1.5.2 Final Cut Express HD

    Yeh thanks,
But I'm afraid it has to be a quicktime movie (as per
the Annabel Williams rules set out on the website).
If I am unable to do this in aperture, am I able to
export my created album into iPhoto or iDVD and
    create a quicktime movie there?
    Cheers.
Yes, either iPhoto, or iDVD for slideshows. You don't need to export, however. As long as previews are enabled, then you can browse your Aperture Library from the other iApps and drag your desired images in from there.

  • Move a quicktime movie to  apple tv

I recently made a movie in iMovie, I accidently deleted the original imovie file, but I have both a DVD copy of the original and Quicktime file of the movie. For the life of me I cant figure out how to either save the DVD copy as a new file in imovie or take the quicktime file and move it to movies on my appletv. When I drag and drop the quicktime file on to itunes movie it doesnt appear. Any help....thx dave

I'm guessin the quicktime movie is DV as suggested and that it won't drop into itunes because of it's size.
If you haven't bought Quicktime pro you won't have it, it's not free and will cost you $ 30 (I think).
If you don't want to do that you have a few options but the two that have been discussed here are handbrake and mpegstreamclip. Both are free and good quality products but you might want to consider which route you want to go down.
Handbrake is easier to use than mpegstreamclip but there's a bit more to it than that. You might want to try to understand the type of compression used in each option.
DV, this is likely the compression type used by your camera, imovie and I'm guessin the compression type your quicktime movie is in. DV is basically the best standard definition compression at consumer level. It involves very large file sizes and let's say a quality of 100%.
Mpeg4/10 (AVC), This is the compression type you will use to make your movie compatible with tv. It will reduce the size of your DV file to less than 10% of it's original size for a small loss in quality of lets say 20 %.
Mpeg2, This is the compression used when you made your DVD, it reduces DV sizes down to about 25 % of there original size for a let's say 20 % reduction in quality.
The actual reduction in quality here is my guess work but you get the idea.
The other things you need to remember are that you can never regain quality you have lost and every time you convert you will lose quality.
So we already have the mpegstreamclip scenario, you'd be going from DV to AVC and losing about 20 % quality.
If you use handbrake, you've already lost 20% of your quality because you are starting off with mpeg2 which has been converted from your original DV. However even though AVC is the same quality at a smaller size you will still lose some quality because of the conversion process. So your end result may be a 30% loss in quality compared to a 20% loss by using handbrake.
The first thing to do is to make sure you do have DV in your quicktime file. Open it in Quicktime and from the windows menu select the movie inspector and fom the window that appears take note of the format.
Having done that decide which route you want to go down, do a search for the appropriate software and download it. Handbrake will convert your DVD, mpegstreamclip your QT file. If you want any help with setting just post back.

  • How do I get iPhone movies into iTunes' movie menu in the sidebar?

I've tried to get iPhone movies into iTunes, but they turn into .MOV files and won't transfer!
I've tried exporting iPhone movie files from iPhoto into iTunes shared movie files (Movies folder), but
they don't appear in the iTunes movie list!  They don't appear in the iPad video app either!
    What's the story!  .  .  .  . thanks f

Allan,  I tried all you suggested.  I ended up with 'IMG' files in the source list, and they won't play.  When double clicked they try to open for a blink, then back to the list.
When exporting the iPhone video from iPhoto, what did you fill out in the dialogue box.  All I saw were selections referring to photos (jpeg, medium, etc.) I didn't see choices for video!  Wouldn't it be just as easy to just drag
the video from the iPhoto thumbnails to the desktop?  Am I missing something here?
    Thanks again

  • How to import large Mp4 QT movie into i-movie?

When I copy selections from the Mp4 movie using quick time pro 7, they wont "paste" into i movie or even final Cut express. There must be an easy way. Im just starting to use QT pro, so Im not overly familiar with it.

If you only wish to import a small selection from your larger file just paste your "cut" into a new QT Player window (Command-N). Save and name this new file and drag it into your other editor.
