Compressing large iMovie for emailing/posting - suggestions?

Made a 11 minute iMovie/iSight camera video on my iMac G5, added some fades, etc., looks good.
I need to send/post it for a whole team of people to see, but the original is huge - 450MB, and exporting it in the other Share qualities (CDROM, Web, Email) reduce the size (to 50MB, 15 MB & 8 MB, respectively), but it gets pretty pixelated at the lower qualities, unless the player window is kept real small. Ant suggestions on how to compress to about 25 MB or less and still keep good quality, so I can post it on my website or send it as an attachment? Are there video host sites (kinda like YouTube, but better quality) that let you post nice large files on their site for free/reasonable fee?

Compression is an art form and each file is different.
Forget the "attachment" idea as most ISP's place a limit on the file size. You'll need to find a server (iDisk) for your file.
Use the "expert settings" when using Movie to QuickTime Movie.
Set the Video codec to H.264 and the data rate between 500 and 1500.
Set the dimensions to 320X240 for Web use.
Set the audio codec to AAC at 128. Don't use "stereo" (mono is half as big in file size) if your video capture doesn't include added music.
Export a one minute "sample" at various data rates and compare them until you find the best compromise between quality and file size. You can use html "tricks" to display this 320X240 file at 480X360 size.

  • Compress video files for email from iPod

I manage an ipod Lab for an intensive English school. We want students to be able to email themselves larger audio and video files from directly from the iPod without having to go through iTunes/iPhoto. We often run into the problem with files being too large to email and are wondering if there is some sort of compression app that we can install on the iPod that will let us compress large files down for email. Something like ESFileExplorer for Android.
    Thanks,
    jHart

Video and audio files are almost impossible to compress with a separate general-purpose compressor application. Such compressors just don't work with the way video and audio files are structured and usually make a video or audio file larger, not smaller; they can't shrink the file size and just add unnecessary overhead. The only effective way to shrink a video or audio file is to re-encode the file with a lower bit rate, smaller frame size (for videos) or both. I don't know if there's any app on the iPod that can do such re-encoding, and even if there is, unless these videos and audio files are quite short, it's probable that they can't be shrunk enough to get through most email systems which usually have very low attachment sizes allowed, often on the order of 10 to 20 megabytes maximum.
A cloud-based storage solution such as Dropbox may be the only practical solution, though I'm not sure what video and audio apps would support saving to such as service. Someone else here may be able to offer suggestions.
    Regards.

  • Compressing fcp movie for email

Hi, I would like to compress a 6 minute video from FCP into a file that is emailable (about 5MB) and viewable on PC/Mac. It's 16:9 and PAL. Can anyone suggest a codec and specs please? Thanks!

QuickTime Player: File > Share > Email. Choose between Small, Medium and Large.
For your target size of 5MB it will probably have to be about the size of a postage stamp.
You might want to consider making a decent sized, high quality movie and uploading it to RapidShare or similar. Then you only have to email a link telling the recipient where they can download.

  • How to compress an IMovie for non-QuickTime  PC users

My QuickTime IMovie that I embedded on my website is not compatible with most PC users. How do I compress it so that it's more universal for PC users? And still have good quality?
    PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Marcia913,
Sorry, I forgot to include another suggestion.
Flash video (.flv) is also a very popular format that plays in the majority of browsers (Mac & PC compatible).
Many forum members upload there video(s) to YouTube/Google video(and similar sites), These sites automactically convert your video to Flash video.
After the video has been converted and posted to the site you can embed a link (URL & Embed links are provided by YouTube/Google video etc.)to your web page and have it play from there (inside your web page). You can even restrict who's allowed to view your video(s) public vs. private.
An additional bonus is that you're not using any of the alloted space provided by your service provider for your website.

  • How to compress a file for email

How do you compress a video file for an email?

    Hello,
Yes I have no doubt the code is messed up
I guess I should start from the beginning. Here is the original code below for the form code that I recieved from
    my hosting Company to use.
However all I need is the email field and a submit button and not the other fields. That is probably how
I managed to mess up the code, I was trying to take out the other fields, line it up etc and most likely did a pretty
    good hack job.
I tried this original code and yes your right it really did mess up the side bar terribly.
Here is the original code my hosting Co gave me before I made a mess out of it.

  • Help to find software for a client database for emailing/post

    Hi,
Im trying to find the right software to use for my small business. I have a database of around a 500 clients that i would like to be able to contact with promotions and offers by both email and post.
So the key things I am looking for are-
    1. To be able to mail entire database or selections of customers (ideally if I could sort customers into designated catagories)
    2. To be able to print labels for envolpopes simply, for categories or all clients
    3. Ideally but definately not essential is to be able to write the emails and schedule when they are to be sent
Also my small team all have company ipads so if it could be accessed by ipad even better.
    Cheers

Boot in safe mode and try again.

  • QT Pro for email

I've been trying to send a QT movie as an email attachment but when I attach, it shows as a tiny thumbnail.  The audio is o.k though....
I posted this before and got a pretty logical response in regard to settings in the inspector, etc...
But my settings seem to be o.k........but still getting the thumbnails.   From reading the Apple site it sounds like I have to have QT PRO to send movies as email.
Is that true ?      I only have regular QT 7 at present.
    thanks

Its at this point that nothing happens.....the file plays back with normal audio but the picture is so small you can barely make out what it is......fairly useless...
If I just open it while its on the desktop it opens to a 'normal size for viewing....
How / where can I duplicate those settings when its within the email application ?
It is still unclear here whether you are referring to the same file in the email and on the destop. Basically both should play with the same display dimensions if they are the same file. On the other hand, if the email file was "shared" for use as an email attachment, then the display dimensions will vary according to the preset selected and the display dimensions of the source file.
    Example:
Let's say I have a 250 second, 848x480 video I wish to include in an email as an attachment. Unfortunately, its data rate is on the order of 1.3 Mbps making the about twice the size allowed by most service providers. This means I will have to either re-compress the file for email attachment or divide the clip into two separate segments. If I choose to use the QT 7 Pro "Share" option under Lion to create an email attachment, I can choose one of the following options:
    a) Small: H.264, 160x90, 10 fps video with AAC, Mono, 32.0 KHz audio having an estimated target file size of 3.6 MB,
    b) Medium: H.264, 320x181, 15 fps video with AAC, Stereo, 32.0 KHz audio having an estimated target file size of 7.3 MB, or
    c) Large: H.264, 480x271, 24 fps video with AAC, Stereo, 44.1 KHz audio having an estimated target file size of 17.4 MB.
Depending on your "quality" tolerance level, you could create larger displays, lower data rates or a combination of both. That is, you must balance variables in terms of time (duration of your file), space (data rate x file duration/size of your file), and the minimum level of quality you will accept to create the target file that may or may not meet your requirements. Generally speaking, files with large display dimensions of long duration and high quality simply cannot be sent as email attachments because the files are too large to be included as attachments and you either have to lower your expectations or find an alternate means of distributung the content. Only you can determine which work flow is best for you for any given file you wish to distribute electronically over the Internet.

  • IMovie is crashing after creating the large movie for YouTube.

    Hey Guys!
So, I have been uploading to YouTube from iMovie for several years now and today I uploaded again as I usually do. The problem was that about 30 seconds before the end of my video it went black on YouTube! I deleted it off YouTube and reuploaded but it happened again! So, thinking that it was something on YouTube's end I deleted it but the next time I tried to upload, iMovie gave me this error message: "The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (Not enough room in heap zone / )"
Now when I try to upload, iMovie crashes after creating the large movie to upload to YouTube!
I have restarted my computer, deleted items to create extra space on my disk, and ejected my iPhone so nothing else happens while I'm trying to create the large movie.
Does anyone have an idea of what is happening and how to fix it?
    Thank you!

I'm having a similar problem with Imovie 11.  I wonder if the problem is in the new Mountain Lion update.  Fortunatly, I cloned the drive befor installing the update.  I've cloned this drive back to the original startup drive and gotten back to IMovie.

  • How to compress file 32+ mb for email attachment

how to compress file 32+ mb for email attachment, after I used compress it's still shows 29 mb. Is there another step I could do. I am new with MAC so please forgive if this sound simple and stupid question.

You simply don't attach that file to email.  Even if you could cut the size by half, that's still way too big for email.  Many mail servers will remove attachments over a certain size, and for most of those that size is below 10 MB.  Find another way to share that file, like a web server or Dropbox or something along those lines.

  • Discussions Hosts: Suggestion for "My Posts" management

    Hello,
Whenever I look at "My Public Profile" and I see that points have gone up, I always want to track them to see where a "solved" or "helpful" came from. Recently, I came up with an interesting idea that would solve this dillema:
If you click on "My Posts", of course, there will be your posts. Next to each title of the subject, I think it would be very nice if there was next to the blue/transparent dots (topic viewed or not) a column for little stars for each post.
If you didn't earn anything from a post, the star is transparent/white. If you got a "helpful", then there is a little yellow helpful-star symbol there. Same goes for "solved" stars, except that each little star in the column is the same size.
If this idea was established, I'd be really glad about it, and it would quite help me in what I want to do.
I'm also wondering, has anyone else been wanting to do this kind of thing, or think that this idea would be nice?
    Thanks,
    -Kylene

    Hello Kylene,
"I'm also wondering, has anyone else been wanting to do this kind of thing, or think that this idea would be nice?"
Yes, this has been asked once, I don't remember whether or not a Host replied the usual "thanks, we've added it to The List".
Me too I think it would be a good idea,
although I'd find it even better with, in adition to the transparent star, the small yellow one and the small green one, a forth color (blue or red for example) for the Helpfuls that were awarded by another member...
(...as you know, to date it's only the original poster who can award points)
    Thanks for the reminder!
