Compressing .mov to mp4 comes out in Slow Motion!
I have Compressor version 3.5.3 but I don't think that's what the problem is. I'm trying to compress an 11GB Quicktime file down to a couple of GB.
It's a PAL .mov file, 1920x1080, 25fps, 48000kHz/16.
These are the Settings I chose :
Video: Encoder MPEG4, 1920x1080, 25fps,
Key Frame interval: I change 15 to 25. Is that wrong?
Bit rate: medium VBR
Audio: Mono because Stereo greyed out 48000kHz.
Bit rate 64kbps is what comes up with 48000kHz. (When I changed it to 16bit it brought 22000kHz)
Frame Controls Option is off. Is that correct?
The result was a clip in Slow Motion Video and Audio alike.
What did I do wrong? Is there an incompatibility somewhere? I'd be most grateful for any suggestion. Thank you,
Hello Russ, these are the 3 Inspector screenshots you requested:
1) Inspector for the Quicktime file to be compressed:
2) Inspector Summary 1
3) Inspector Summary 2
4) Inspector Encoder 1
5) Inspector Encoder 2
That's how I ended up with slow motion in the converted mp4 file. What do you make of it?
Many thanks in advance for any light you could throw on this.

Compressed .mov to mpeg4 comes out in Slow Motion!
Using Compressor to bring down an 11GB Quicktime file to a couple of GB. And it comes out in Slow motion!
The Quicktime A/V attributes are: Video encoded 1920x1080, PAL, 25fps, Pixel square, Field Dominance: Progressive, Audio: 48kHz/16bit
These are the Settings I used:
Video: Video enabled is selected
Allow job segmenting is selected. Should it ?
Frame Rate: 25fps
Key Frame interval: 15 . I tried 25 ?
Bit rate: medium VBR
Audio: Audio enabled is selected
Channels: I had to choose Mono, because with Stereo 48000kHz was greyed out
Sample rate: 48000kHz, quality High,
Bit Rate: 64kbps. If I change the bit rate to 16, the Sample rate becomes 22000!
Streaming: I deselected Streaming.
What did I do wrong? Is there an incompatibility somewhere between Quicktime and MPEG4? How can it be remedied? I would be most grateful for any suggestion. Happy New Year!Hello Russ, these are the 3 Inspector screenshots you requested:

Export Quicktime movie in FCP comes out as a Final Cut Pro Movie File
Does anyone know why when I Export Quicktime movie in FCP it comes out as a Final Cut Pro Movie File? I can still play it in Quicktime and it's possible to set the Quicktime Player as the default software, but it still says in my finder window that it is a Final Cut Pro Movie File.
Does anyone know if there are any settings for the clip to come out as a Quicktime Movie instead? Thank you!+Jim Cookman :+
+"The studio apps "brand" their exports. Actually kind of useful...+
In the words of the venerable Forest Gump, "Useful is as useful does" ... or something like that.
I actually use similar "icon" techniques in other areas of my workflow. But most of the time I just modify the file title for quick ID - I also use dashes & underscores to get things to stand out and stay at the top of lists etc.
But QT is my Go-To App for quick media reference and I have it set up to play almost all types off media when double clicked. I started doing it years ago when iTunes opened up every time I wanted to check a few seconds of an mp3 file.
I guess the best solution would have been for Apple to leave the "export FinalCut movie" option intact and simply add in an "export Quicktime movie" option as well. Or maybe add another drop down option for the tagging (branding).
At least we would have been able to make the workflow choices in-the-box rather than doing it with the OS.
Andy Neil,
I think using the OS is the better option rather than re-compressing your movie just so you can double click into QT.

Published MP4 comes out blurry
Hi,
We have created 7 sections to combine into one 10 minute tutorial. When publishing the shorter sections to MP4 individually the quality is excellent.
The major problem is when we string all seven together in Captivate -- the resolution is bad and comes out blurry.
The slides created from PowerPoint (only 2) are fine but the ones created via Video Demo are the problem when published together. Again, the individual MP4s of the video demos are very clear.
Is this a settings issue or combining PowerPoint & video demos problem?
Most important, how do I fix this ASAP!
Thank you in advance,
JillI am not sure as two of us created the videos and the PowerPoint ones were not created byt me.
But the individual videos were already converted into MP4 and we simply dropped all 7 MP4 sections onto slides in Captivate. So I was assuming that the resolution for each MP4 would have been preserved when combining them as each MP4 was perfect.
What do you suggest? Adjusting the resolution in the .cptx files or a setting adjustment for the MP4? -
Help! Movies from iPhone 5 play in slow motion when opened in Quicktime on PC
Hi there,
I was hoping someone may have the answer or have encountered this problem as well, as I have been unable to find anything on it elsewhere on the net.
I have transferred some movies, taken on my iPhone 5, to my PC. However when they are opened in Quicktime (as recommended) they play in slow motion.
However, the sound still plays at normal speed.
I have already tried going into the QT settings where you can speed up the playback, but this doesn't work either, no matter how fast I set it to - they still play super slow.
Although they are taking up heaps of space, I am worried to delete the movies off the iPhone in case they have not copied over properly and I lose the originals!
Any suggestions?
Many thanks!Hi Matthias, thanks for your response!
We are running on Windows XP, is that what you mean? I will try and download the VLC player and see what happens. Are iPhone 5 movies higher res than iPhone 4, as we can play those?
If it is the system, do you know whether or not if I save the movies to our PC, then transfer than to another computer, should they play ok? I just don't want to delete them off my phone and have them permanently slow, iykwim?
Sorry if my ignorance is showing - I'm not overly tech savvy when it comes to this stuff!
Many thanks again! -
IMovie 11 quick time movie is in slow motion. why?
Sharing using Quick Time to make HD movie. Movie comes out in slow motion, but audio sounds okay. Followed online suggestions for settings. Settings are as follows: PLEASE HELP!
You don't say how the file was created for youtube. When you export a video from Flash you have a lot of options available to you. You can change the image area size, the frame rate, you can choose one of many video and audio compressors.
As a start, you should keep the image area and the frame rate the same for the video as it was in the original Flash file. When the Adobe Media Encoder opens, your file will show up in the Queue section with a compressor and a preset selected. You can select the format and change it to anything that you want. Since the default format has given you a poor result, select a different format or customize the existing one. There are many, many, options available. Take a look at the Media Encoder documentation for more information on those options. -

I just like to know if i rigth to my refund the movie i rent, also because took to long time to downloding, so i never watch the movie and charge come out of my account
No. Netflix is solely a streaming service and does not provide downloads. If you want downloaded movies, buy or rent from the iTunes Store. Note that in some cases people have found that rented movies still require connection to the ITunes Store to play, for reasons I have yet to figure out, so purchases are safer.

Suddenly the windows movement on my macbook pro became slow motion. like when i scroll up and down in safari it is on slow motion! or mission control is loading on slow motion anyone can help? ram 16GB Hard 1Tb CPU Core i7 2.7
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

I have looked through various questions and answers for months now and have never been able to sort out the fact that iDVD won't create watchable DVDs of my .mov files if they contain slow motion. I'm using iDVD6.
I used to do this all the time on my old G4 iBook without any problems, but the encoding on that seems to have been updated as well.
It's infuriating to be able to watch a nice smooth movie in Quicktime at full resolution, then have iDVD create a rubbish DVD version with flickering and juddering. I video sports activity and use slow motion a lot.
I've tried switching between Best Performance and Quality, have tried creating a disk image first then burning slowly.
So many people seem to have huge frustrations trying to do simple things with iDVD. I have been a Mac fan for years, but my DVD problems and the swathe of DVD problems experienced by others has really tarnished my view of Apple. There is clearly a problem with the way iDVD encodes video, so where's the fix?
Should I just give up and use Toast? Any warnings about that?Welcome to the forums.
Here are a couple ideas: If your video is under 60 min, use Best Performance for the highest resolution. Import your video from the iMovie file rather than exporting or converting the file (use the Import command or drag the file into your menu area).
Please advise where the .mov files originate; Quicktime is a container format and your .mov file can be more or less compressed... and break down during slow motion if it's substantially compressed or has a low frame rate.

My fcp movie's come out grainy er than my imovie's
Please help! I 've just bought fcp6.0.1 and use an panasonic dvx100b to shoot on. I've used this camera with imovie and created and exported to mp4 which I then uploaded to youtube! It Looked great! When I started using fcp and created movies and exported them using quicktime coverversion:
Here are the current settings: compression H.264 . Filter keyframe 24 . frame encoding yes.mutipass size 640x480 The end result was not as clear or as crisp as the movie's made from I movie! Here are my system setting's for fcp: RT unlimited > video quality Dynamic < frame rate Dynamic > pull down pattern2;3;2;3 GAMMA CORRECTION ACCURATE . FRAME SET OFF 4 . Record full quality Capture settings Firewire NTSC < Capture input DV NTSC 48khz..........Ok.......
Where am I going wrong? anybody please help!As an addendum, if you are anxious to get an iPhone and would rather not wait, you might want to take a look a Best Buy's new buy back offer. I haven't looked into it too closely, but they are advertising quite heavily that they will buy back when new technology comes out.

When I test the movie or upload it to the server i comes out about 60% of the full size. I do not have it scaled with the window size and I have tried everything I can think of to get it to 100%. Why should it come out smaller? I am using an iMac and CS4 professional.
thank you for asking for more info.
The file I am loading is the SWF file plus the index.HTML file, but the problem still happens when I test the movie before uploading it.
I have not modified the HTML file.
shall I send you the file? -
hello
i am dealing with a project using adobe flash cs3 and final cut pro 2 on a mac.
i am exporting a quicktime from flash and then bringing that .mov into FC to edit, add music, etc.
when i export from final cut, i see that the clip isnt as crisp as it was when i originally exported from flash?
im wondering what could be the issue. the clip itself is short, roughly ten seconds, although, even if my final result would be a 300 mb clip to still retain that perfect quality, i won't mind.
when i exported from flash, i had to do different trial and errors to get it to keep its full quality. the aspect ratio is 720X480 .. although upon export trying an NTSC it was extremly pixelated. i just ended up doing an uncompressed, no codec, quicktime export...having the final result be 350mb for ten seconds! either way, i love the final result. nice and crisp.
i brought this into final cut...heres the problem, what i am assuming is happening, is there is a setting wrong in the sequence settings. here is what i have it currently set to:
in the general tab:
frame size 720X480 NTSC DV (3:2)
pixel aspect ratio NTSC - CCIR 601
field dominace none
editing timebase 30
compressor non
quality 100%
advanced - compressor none / quality 100%
^^^ i thought maybe the whole ntsc issue is what causes the slight lower quality, considering even though it is the same aspect ratio its not dv footage but just an uncompressed flash video quicktime
^^^ i tried changing the aspect ratio next to frame size to custom/ custom (3:2) ... everytime i clicked okay, and re-opened the seq. settings, it resorted back to ntsc automatically
also the pixel aspect ratio section (the one directly under) only lets you choose ntsc , square pix, or hd - there wasn't even a custom thing to choose for that one
the problem with my final export is that is has slight artifacting on the edges of things...
maybe it isnt the sequence settings, for when i changed the settings to this, the little video box in the canvas of the fcp interface has no artifacting.
so possibly it can be the export settings in final cut?
if i do an export in FC which is an ntsc, it comes out extremly pixelated
the closest thing i can get to 100 quality is doing an uncompressed 10 bit....which is still causing the slight artifacting on the edges of objects.
any ideas of what i can do to fix this problem? it would be extremly appreciated and thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
thankyou,
-MikeUPDATE:
i discovered a way,
upon export,
instead of choosing uncompressed, i chose custom,
i then typed in whatever and exported...came out clean.
i don't know what uncompressed 10 bit caused artifacting though
