Compressing movie to correct size

All of this is new to me, and I have several movies that I have made, however in the quicktime format they are too big for posting, could somebody please help me with how I can make the movie smaller size and still be decent looking in the process?
thanks
l

Hi Klaus1, and Thank you!,
a lot of my movies I have made are about 160 mb, In order to post them on youtube, I need them to be 100 mb or smaller, I know I was playing around one time on the share features and selected a different file format and was able to compress the file to a smaller size using something other than .mov, however I have not a clue as to what I did, or what to do now.
I really have no idea as to how anything works with the file compression.
any advice will be great!
thanks

  • Compress movie for CD-ROM

I've been working on a video conversion project using the ADVC300 to import old VHS clips into iMovie 6.
For the past two weeks I've read and experimented every which way to get a good quality representation of my video on the computer. The only good looking file that didn't give me black horizontal lines everywhere (MPEG-4 and H.264 tests) was the full quality setting. After much frustration with this I set it on the "Compress movie for CD-ROM" setting as a last resort, only to find this was exactly what I wanted. From my comparisons these files look as good as the .dv files at a MUCH smaller size.
So, just out of curiosity, is there any way of finding out exactly what these CD-ROM settings are? How exactly is this stuff getting compressed?
    Thanks for your input.

Great. I'll use those settings and experiment a little.
Now, if I could only find some way of speeding up the process. I know, buy a new computer. One 12 minute clip took about 50 minutes to finalize last evening. This will be a long process, with about 2 boxes of VHS tapes to convert, but at least there's other things to be done in the house while the computer is churning away.
    Thanks!

  • How to compress DV into smaller size?

    Hi.
I need to know how to compress a DV file to say 60% of it's original size. I'm trying to pre-compress these files so that they will fit on a single DVD without using Toast on the final burn. In other words I want to compress the DV files without compressing the DVDSP menus etc.
    Sandy

sandy, are you trying to make a data dvd with a quicktime (dv compressed) movie file or a dvd-video?
in the first case; dv has only one compression setting, there is no way to change it, unless you compress using a different codec.
in the latter case, you'll be wanting to compress to m2v (mpeg2) and probably ac3 for the audio
    hope this helps

  • Compressing mov Files

    Hi People.
Am hoping to get some help from here with regards to a certain problem. I have a 1.19 GB quicktime mov file which I would like to compress down to a size small enough to email across to someone. It's rather sentimental (of my nephews 1st xmas day - trying to get it across to his parents)
any ideas would be hugely appreciated!

Here is a bit rate converter. It will figure out the file size for you. It's free!
    http://www.pimley.net/projects/
Most email accounts have a 10 MB file size.
Another thing you can do is post the video on youTube. You can make it private to were only you can he can view the video. youTube has a maximum of 2 gigs and 10 minute file size. youTube has a help section for making the video. You need an account. If you get stuck report back to here and I'm sure some of us here will give you some help.
Tip: use the h.264 format in Quicktime Pro to compress the video. You must have Quicktime Pro to do what you want to do.

  • Importing iPhone movies increases file size 3-4x

I imported clips from various sources into iMovie11, then I compared the files in the iMovie Events folder to the original files.
    1. AVI movies are identical to the original files (file size and picture size - 640x480), regardless if I select "large 960x540" or "full size" when importing. So far so good.
    2. However, Movies that were taken by iPhone 4 (MOV, original picture size 1280x720) end up 3-6x larger.
2.1. If I select "full size" when importing, then the new file size is 6x larger than the original. (Picture size same as original, as expected.)
2.2. If I select "large 960x540" then the new file size is still 3x larger than original.  (Picture size shrinks to 960x540, as expected).
    3. Same experiment with iPhone3 movies (MOV, original picture size 640x480)
3.1 If I select "full size" then the file size is 3.5x larger than original.
3.2 If I select "large 960x540" then the file size stays the same.
(Picture size stays the same, 640x480 as expected in both cases.)
Now this is somehow consistent with the changes in movie format and data rate:
    - In the cases 1 and 3.2 above, nothing changes from original to new (AVI format "motion jpeg open dml", MOV format "h.264").
    - In the case 2 and 3.1, format changes from "h.264" to "Apple intermediary codec" and data rate goes up by a factor of 6 and 4, respectively.
FPS stays the same in all cases.
Can someone explain why it iMovie does this.
No segments of the new clips are duplicated, and they are not padded with gray or garbage like I've seen in other posts.
    Thanks in advance

Motion JPEG is already an i-frame codec like DV or AIC so there is no advantage to converting to AIC. Each frame is a compressed JPEG.
I have some Motion JPEG that I received from a service that digitized some old 8MM film for me in 1080P. The Motion JPEG worked fine in iMovie.
The iPhone 3 created h.264 in smaller dimensions, like 640x480 (although I can't remember for sure). With smaller h.264 files, your Mac may have the processor power and memory to convert the h.264 on the fly as you render. For larger h.264 files like 720P and 1080P, most Macs do not have enough power, so you are better off converting to AIC.
So with the iPhone 3, you can make the choice yourself. You can convert them if you see a performance issue. Otherwise, edit them as is. To convert them, right-click on the Event, and choose "Optimize Media".

  • Compressing .mov and keeping alpha without changing to .flv

    Hello,
I am trying to run a .mov file with alpha through Adobe Media Encoder to get a compressed .mov file with alpha.
I found that I could change the file type to .flv with On2 VP6 codec, but I cannot use that because my file type must be .mov.  I am bringing the compressed .mov into Unity as a movie texture and Unity will only accept .mov .mpg .mpeg .mp4 .avi .asf.
Is there a way that I can run a .mov with alpha through AME and get a compressed .mov with alpha?
    Thank you
    Jon

The reason that you're getting a large file out of After Effects is that you're using the defult Lossless output module template, which uses the Animation codec. There is no reason to go through AME to make a smaller QuickTime movie. Just export directly from After Effects and choose a different codec in the output module settings. If you're using QuickTime, PNG is a good choice for getting smaller files that still have alpha channels.
However, why do you even care about file size if you also want an alpha channel? The reason to care about file size is for final ditribution; the reason to care about alpha channels is for using the file in a post-production process. Worrying about both at the same time means that you're likely confusing the requirements of two very different parts of the pipeline.

  • HP C309a All in one Printer - Problems with printing documents the correct size.

Hi I recently purchased an HP 309a as a replacement for an EPSON printer which had to be replaced a couple of times so I thought I would change manufacturer.
The HP printer prints well in post places but when I print from Excel on an A4 scale it only prints 3/4 size on an A4 page.  I tried everything to get it to print the correct size.  I have adjusted the settings to scale to A4, print boderless etc and it just will not print correctly.
It seems to be ok in Word and many other programs so I don't know why there is an issue with Excel.  Iam I missing something, please help.
Also is there any way to default the printer to A4 automatically instead of 8" x 11".

I also have issues using this printer with Excel/ Word.
When I am using Excel or Word I have to remove the HP 309a as my default printer.
when set as default, excel and word just "hang" for up to 3 minutes when opening or saving.
I called HP who said the printer works with all other files so basically it's tough. One of their tech guys tried to sort it out but couldn't.
Has anyone else had this same problem? If so, how was it resolved?
£300 for a printer that doesn't work with MS. It's not funny and I won't buy HP product again.

  • Vector to png - image won't save as correct size

    Working in CS5
I have a vector image that I need to resize and save as a .png.
I first create an artboard to the correct size I need (55x20 pixels), shrink my vector image to fit and then export to .png using the artboard as my boundaries (so that I get the correct size).
Problem is, the resulting file is not 55x20, it is 229x83 (when I open in Photoshop).  I can't figure out why the file is not saving to the correct size.
I have also tried opening the file in photoshop and resizing down, but that doesn't work either.  My image becomes very distorted.
I don't generally work in pixels or pngs...what would be the best program and process to do this.  It doesn't seem like it should be so difficult, but for some reason it is!
    Thanks!

That woudl be the result if you had chosen 300 dpi. Make sure you choose 72 ppi
If you still haev trouble you can use save for web rather than export.

  • Published Course (Captivate 8) not displaying at correct size on Android tablet (HTML5)

I am now publishing my system simulations as both SWF and HTML5. They are set to NOT scale as they should fit correctly on all my client's screen resolutions. The simulations are built at 1006 x 627 pixels.
When uploaded to the LMS and tested on various devices everything displays OK on PC (swf) and ipad (html5) but I'm having issues on Android 4.1.2.and 4.2.2 (Chrome 37).
The whole of the simulation screen should be visual on the Android tablets which have a screen resolution of 1280x800. When taking into account the player top and bottom bars I still have 656 pixels to display the course content. However the 1006 is scaling to 1280 making the course height too high and dropping off the bottom of the screen.
If I publish with 'scaling' turn on the course now fits on the Android screen correctly i.e. height correct with spare width, but on non Android devices i.e. PC with high resolution, the course is now scaling up.
Why is the course not locked to correct size in Android?

      Hi,
I have added two images, one from the Android tablet which is stretching the slide to fill the screen width and another from a high resolution PC which is showing the simulation as the correct size.
The android device is 1280x800, the simulation is 1006x627

I used scripting brigde to add a movie that has size bigger than 5GB, exactly after two minutes iTunes return a failed, but the processing of the file is actually added to iTunes Library successfully. The copying take more than 5 minutes to complete. Why the iTunes Scripting Brigde returned failed when it is actually success? It occurred exactly 2 minutes after submit the request to Scripting Brigde. Is this 2 minutes related to the Apple Event time out? if it does, how do I get around this problem? thx

I can tell you that this is some of the absolutely worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I found out from a store employee that when they are really busy with calls, they have third party companies taking overflow calls. One of those companies is Xerox. What can a Xerox call center rep possibly be able to authorize on a Verizon account?  I'm Sure there is a ton of misinformation out there due to this. They don't note the accounts properly or so everyone can see them. I have been transferred before and have asked if they work for Verizon or a third party also and was refused an answer so, apparently they aren't required to disclose that information. I spent a long time in the store on my last visit and it's not just customers that get the runaround. It happens to the store employees as well and it's beyond frustrating.

  • Exporting files from InDesign to correct size

    Hi,
Hope someone can help. I create multiple ads for many publications and have joboptions set up for each. Brill, saves loads of time!
However, some require the ad to be cropped to bleed size but still include crop marks. How can I export a PDF to the correct size (trimmed to the bleed size with crop marks but without the white space you always get?!). For instance, can you specify the length of the crop marks to make them shorter or just specify the correct trimmed size without the white space?
At the moment I have to specify a bleed of 10mm when exporting from InDesign and then crop 7mm off all round to leave 3mm of bleed in Acrobat with the crop marks (albeit small) remaining on the document.
The ads are delivered via adsend so if they don't pass the specs, they are automatically rejected (gone are the days when someone REAL checked them over – sigh!)
Please, please, has anyone got a solution?!!
    I'm using CS5 and Acrobat 9 Pro.
Oh, and I can't seem to print a postscript file or PDF anymore since we got a new crappy printer!

You cannot export from Pages to ID, though you could export to RTF and use File > Place... to import the thext, but you'd need to rebuild the layout.
Placed PDF is essentially a graphic, so your pixelation may just be the default preview quality. Try View > Display Performance > High Quality Display (and you can set this as the default in the prefs). Keep in mind, though, that the imported PDF is not editable in ID.

  • CS6 in combination with FileMaker - Pictures are printed to big but shown on screen correct size

I'm using FileMaker since more than 10 years together with pictures made in PS (since version CS2) saved as .jpg / 100dpi
    it always worked perfect!
Now I got CS6 and any new picture is shown in the correct size but when I print it out of FM it gets much to large

when I print it out of FM it gets much to large
If the parameters are correct in Photoshop then the problem would seem to lie with FileMaker and thus not necessarily be a rewarding subject for a Photoshop Forum.
Do the files output correctly from other applications (Indesign, Preview, …)?

  • How to create a pdf with the correct size?

    Hi there
How do I create a pdf with the correct size? I created several albums and ordered them. Now I want to backup the album and I know how to create a pdf, but when I choose A5 it's to big, when I create my own size it's not the size it should be. The original (made with iphoto) is a small size album 200x150mm. But when I create my own size (200x150) it shows some white borders.
Does anybody have some tips ore workarounds?

Books are designed for and printed on 8.5 x 11 inch stock, US Letter size.  You shouldn't have to select any size.  While viewing the All Pages mode in the book Control-Click on the page and select Save Book as PDF from the contextual menu.
That will create a PDF that iPhoto uses to upload and print.  Not all pages will be the same size as the dust jacket will be present in it's full size, 32.8 inches x 8.91 inches:
If you want a PDF that's designed for your own printing the type Command+P while viewing the All Pages window.  In the first print window click on the PDF button.  It will present you with a contextual menu where you should select Save as PDF.  That will give you an 8.5 x 11 PDF file with all pages the same size.

Thank you for approving my feed iTunes . The only problem is, there is no art work, even though artwork was submitted correct sizes and formats were used. Why is this and how can the problem be rectified?

Thanks for getting back. Hadn't got round to re uploading the amended feed. I just did it now.
The only thing is, Feed Validator doesn't like it because of the picture size, and a couple of other things, it reeds the following:
    Sorry
    This feed does not validate.

In addition, interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations.
