Compressing PDF Files

Is there a way within Adobe to compress a PDF file?  I have been searching the drop downs but have been unable to locate anything that resembles "compression".  Thanks.

Thanks very much for the reply.  Any suggestions?  I was told that this could be done with Adobe Reader v 7.0 and v 9.0.

  • Quartz filter settings for compressing pdf file

    I have used the nominal quartz filter setting (reduce file size) to compress pdf file.  It reduced the file
    size significantly--but the text resolution was considerably blurred.
    What is an appropriate setting to reduce pdf file size and not destroy the test resolution ?

    See if this helps...

  • How to Automate Compressing PDF files in a Watched Directory

    I want to automatically compress PDF files as they get placed into a watched directory. I would like the compressed files placed in another directory and have the original file either deleted or place in another directory. If Acrobat Pro X can do this, how do I set it up.

    I noticed that Acrobat Distiller will watch an input directory and move files to an output directory. I tried using Distiller to compress a PDF file, but all it did was move the PDF file to the out directory without doing any compression. Is there any way that Distiller could be configured to do what I want?
    I also called the number listed on the Adobe web site for LiveCycle products. They told me they don't sell their product to non government companies and they referred me to 4 Point to get further info. I called them and only got a voice mail. I'm waiting for a call back.
    I found a product that does exactly what I need. It is called PdfCompressor Professional Edition. But, it costs more than what I want to spend. I'm guessing that LiveCycle will cost more than I want to spend also. If there are any other products that cost less than $150, I would like to know what they are.

  • How to reduce size or compress PDF files?

    Hi guys,
    Does someone knows if there is a way  to reduce the size of the PDF file with good quality even on Pictures and Scanned documents? I know the option 'export', 'quartz filter' 'reduce size', but the compression is so extrem. Many files can't not been read, the quality is so bad. Is there a additional app, software or extension that let the user play with the compression on pdf files and let it be more personalized like the dopdf V7 available for windows? i am very dissapointed with this. Please help or suggestion. I will appreciate it. Thanks

    I have used the excellent PDF Toolkit app for a while, and its preformed well. Occassionaly it makes the document into a negative image...which Im noyt sure why...
    Mathishk, im trying your online version out, and am impressed and admire the fact that you have done this.
    Well done.
    A TRICK i use often. Once all hires images are on the designed document - and its coming in at 15-20mb, just change the link to the images so they are 'missing' then make a pdf.
    i.e 'Hi Res images' to HRes images - old'
    The screen resolution of images is still great, but file comes in at fraction of the size.
    You 'trick' the document to use screen images only. So my 18mb file comes in as 5.2mb.
    Just remember to change the images folder name back, so files relink.

  • Compressed PDF file is not displaying properly in Windows 8 Reader app

    Hi,
    We have compressed a PDF file using some third party library. The compressed file is displaying properly, when we're opening the file with ADOBE reader. The same file is displaying blank, when we're opening the file with Windows 8 reader.
    Can anyone help us to solve this issue?

    Hi Puneet,
    Thanks for your reply.
    I have shared the skydrive link of PDF files which are not opened properly with Windows reader.
    https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=2BA789F8EDB6510C!228&authkey=!ADyKA-JLOFDTqyI
    Flowers.pdf is not displaying correctly and Tiger.pdf is displaying as blank in Windows reader. But both are displaying correctly in Adobe reader.
    We have used LeadTools 14.5 library to compress the pdf files.

  • Compressing PDF files in Finder - Files are no smaller after compression!

    Hi,
    I have PDF portfolio files (Acrobat 9) that include images (jpegs and PNGs)and PDFs. I want to compress them so i can email them. When i ctrl click them and select 'compress' the resulting .zip file is exactly the same size as the original PDF file! Can anyone explain why?!
    Is it not possible to create compressed zip files from PDFs containing multiple files / types?
    FYI, i have made the PDFs themselves as small as possible within Acrobat before trying to compress them, compressing is a last resort!
    Thanks

    Thanks. I've reduced the image sizes to what i think is the minimum for good viewing, but the total PDF size is still too big for emialing (about 25mb). Is there any alternative to resizing the images (and other files) again and making the tottal PDF size smaller?

  • How do I compress PDF files using Acrobat SDK?

    have a web service created in a .net environment that examines existing pdf files in a staging directory prior to sending them over the wire using FTP.
    Part of that process requires that I rename individual files in order to associate them with a particular batch.
    I also have a requirement to reduce the size of individual files as much as possible in order to reduce the traffic going over the line.
    So far I have managed about a 30% compression rate by using an open source library (iTextSharp).
    I  am hoping that I can get a better compression rate using the Acrobat SDK, but I need someone to show me how, hopefully with an example that I can follow.
    The following code snippet is a model I wrote that accomplishes the rename and file compression...
                const string filePrefix = "19512-";
                string[] fileArray = Directory.GetFiles(@"c:\temp");
                foreach (var pdffile in fileArray) {
                    string[] filePath = pdffile.Split('\\');
                    var newFile = filePath[0] + '\\' + filePath[1] + '\\' + filePrefix + filePath[2];
                    var reader = new PdfReader(pdffile);
                    var stamper = new PdfStamper(reader, new FileStream(newFile, FileMode.Create), PdfWriter.VERSION_1_5);
                    int pageNum = 1;
                    for (int i = 1; i <= pageNum; i++) {
                        reader.SetPageContent(i, reader.GetPageContent(i), PdfStream.BEST_COMPRESSION);
                    stamper.Writer.CompressionLevel = PdfStream.BEST_COMPRESSION;
                    stamper.FormFlattening = true;
                    stamper.SetFullCompression();
                    stamper.Close();
    Any assistance is appreciated.

    You can't use Adobe Acrobat on a server.

  • Compress pdf file

    Will the file still need to be compressed though, before I send it?

    Most PDF files are already heavily compressed, and further compression has little effect.

  • Compress PDF Files

    Is there a way to compress large PDF files into smaller PDF files with acrobat software? When I scan a 2 page text document it is sometimes 2 MB.

    That is normally the issue with scans. You can try the PDF Optimize or Reduce File Size (under the Save As Other menu) or one of the preflight tools. If you have not OCR'd the scan, you might want to do that. The ClearScan will generally give the smallest file (the others retain the image and so the file only gets bigger typically). After the OCR, you will need to go through the text and fix errors. Otherwise, the only option you have is to do graphic compression (I think there is a preflight script for that). If you did OCR with Searchable PDF, then you probably added size to the PDF and you might want to go back and see what happens if you do not do OCR when scanning.

    Hi,
    After Converting list to Pdf try the below code.
    DATA :  GD_BUFFER TYPE STRING.
      LOOP AT IT_PDF_OUTPUT.
        TRANSLATE IT_PDF_OUTPUT USING ' ~'.
        CONCATENATE GD_BUFFER IT_PDF_OUTPUT INTO GD_BUFFER.
      ENDLOOP.
      TRANSLATE GD_BUFFER USING '~ '.
      DO.
        IT_MESS_ATT = GD_BUFFER.
        APPEND IT_MESS_ATT.
        SHIFT GD_BUFFER LEFT BY 255 PLACES.
        IF GD_BUFFER IS INITIAL.
          EXIT.
        ENDIF.
      ENDDO.
    Then mail it. <removed by moderator>

  • How to compress PDF files

    I have a 72MB PDF file that I want to email. How do I compress this file.

    A curious observation confounded me. I was using OS X to create PDF files from the Print dialog box of  an application, and I found the file size that OS X was creating to be rather large. I used Adobe Acrobat Pro to reduce the file size by using the product's capability to do so. A rather time consuming task, but necessary since the original file sizes were too large to email.
    Completely by accident one day i used Preview within OS X to view a newly created file (4.9 Mb in size), and then "saved" the file to disk. For some reason in doing so, Preview had automatically reduced the file size from 4.9 Mb to less than 200 Kb (coincidentally the same size reduction that Acrobat Pro was doing manually).
    I don't know why, but simply opening in Preview and then saving the file was initiating a massive reduction. To this day, I find that the two step proces of creating a PDF, then doing the Preview reduction is necessary to make the files smaller for email.

  • Compress pdf-files by using method cl_abap_gzip= compress_binary

    Hello,
    I tried to create a zip file from a pdf by using the following code from Otto Frost:
    <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/c6b79908-0a01-0010-8ca0-b77aff37726d">https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/c6b79908-0a01-0010-8ca0-b77aff37726d</a>
    (Very helpful, thank you very much!)
    When extracting the zip archive with winzip or gzip(unix) Adobe Reader only shows an empty page. If I compare the original pdf-file with the extracted one, using a text editor, the difference is, that the extracted file has more line-feeds than the original one. When removing these line-feeds manually, the pdf works.
    Has anyone an idea what can be the reason of this mistake.
    Best regards
    Gerald Seizinger

    Hi Julio,
      Thanks for your reply. Does it mean that this gzip only works in unix system, and not for windows system?
      Is there any other classes that I can use to zip a file into extension .rar or .zip?
      Kindly advise.
    regards,

  • Does anyone know how to compress .pdf files to share?

    I put together a 4 page document in Pages but it is almost 1.7 MB - yikes! Anyone know how to get it smaller?  It has a lot of photos, which I'm sure are the culprit.  If I knew how to make them smaller, I'm sure I'd be on the right track!

    In todays world a fle of 1.7 Mega Bytes isn't that big. That's about the same size of a small JPG file from a standard camera.
    How do plan on sharing it? Emailing it? you should have no problem emailing a file of that size.
    Sorry I don't know of a way to compress a PDF unless you ZIP it.

    However PDF compression in general depending on format (pdf-A, pdf-X, etc etc) may not work or work well.
