Compressing photos in aperture

I presume that it must be possible to compress the total size off a photo, so that i will be able sending them easily by Email. I would like to send by email at least 20 photos in one email, and the size of each photo is now about 3 Mb .
How must I proceed ?

Two points.
1. Aperture stores and provides tools to make adjustments to your digital negatives. It also provides a v. broad range of exporting options. Your digital negatives are never altered. It does a great job, but at the cost of some confusion, particularly about what a "photo" is and what a "file" is.
I don't know the best way to conceive of this, but I think of my digital negatives (I shoot only raw) as templates, I think of the sum of Adjustments done in Aperture as instructions on how to change (adjust, manipulate, cook) these templates, and I think of the exports as specific +final products+ ready to be served. For me, these correspond to three distinct activities done in Aperture:
- import and store (in my case, raw) -- (creates images in Aperture)
- retrieve and alter (cooking) -- (alters and/or re-creates images in Aperture)
- export and serve (plated and served) -- (neither alters nor creates images in Aperture)
In all cases, the "photo" you took, the "photo" you see in Aperture after adjustments are made, and the "photo" you send to your clients to allow them to print a good 8x10, are all different and correspond to different data.
2. The exporting options are, as already mentioned by others, extensive. It is your job to determine which settings work for your needs (both direct -- how to get an on-screen or on-paper result -- and indirect -- how to protect your copyright). Note that exporting an image creates an image file outside of Aperture (hence "export"). You can export any and all of your cooked or un-cooked "photos" in infinite ways, infinite times. Exporting neither alters any existing images in Aperture (with the minor exception of adding or changing some of the metadata which records exporting information), nor adds any images to your Aperture Library.

current photos are 7-8Mb each if I just attach them directly

Aperture won't delete the photos from your iPhone. Most users have settled on using Image Capture ater importing into Aperture to delete the photos from the iPhone.

  • Can not sync all photos in Aperture into Iphone 5

I can not sync all photos in Aperture into Iphone 5. It always can sync some photos into 5. Then finish and prompts: "itunes can not synchronize (other)thousands of projects, and see more information in itunes".  That means most of my photos can not seen on Iphone 5, it seems just can't import to 5. Is that the problem of Iphone or the pictures in Aperture, or even just because lack of sufficient space?

  • Apple tv 2 slow to update new photos from aperture (I mean hours)

    Hi....
I have a large photo library within aperture 3.1.2, and I have an apple TV 2 that I use for casual browsing of the library.
The issue that I have is that when I add new photos to aperture, it can take a day or more until they show up in apple tvs photos.
Its almost as if apple tv is looking at an older version of my aperture library.
I have done a software update in the mac that serves apple tv, and also, ensured that apple tv is up to date. I've tried closing itunes, aperture, logged off, log on, rebooted apple tv 2 (by unplagging)- to no avail, restarted itunes, aperture, apple tv etc etc.
I just dont seem to be able to say to apple tv 2 the equivalent of "hey, go an refresh your view of aperture, there are new photos in there "
This is really frustrating, because the photos that i want to look at the most, are typically those that I have just taken.
Its really weird. As an other example, if i make a new smart album in aperture say "photos from last couple of days", with the obvious smart album selection criteria, then this too does not appear in apple tv 2 until a few hours later.
This smart album works as expected in aperture- no problems.
They will turn up later, but apparently with no rhyme or reason as to the timing.
I think its down to apple TV storing an older version of metadata for the aperture library.
I could understand it if I had no photos at all coming across, or if only photos with previews that come across, but no, it doesnt appear to be any setting such as that, becuase they will come over, eventually.
This appears to be a big bug- New photos cant be shown on apple TV for a day or two - grrrrrr.
Im pulling my hair out with it.
    Any help really appreciated

Yes, I have the same issue also.
It look like only the last import is missing somehow.
For example, yesterday I import photos from DC and iPhone, and put them in one event.
Only the DC part shown up, and iPhone photo are missing.
If I use "Last 12 month" section in Apple TV and jump to bottom, you can see some empty squares, and not viewable. Somehow it is not updated.

  • Multiple copies of one photo in Aperture

    Hi,
I have just bought Aperture, and I'm dying to get started. However, a very basic thing annoys me quite a lot. I would like to make an Album with photos I can perform experiments on, but no matter what I do, the changes also apply to the "originals" in the Event from which they were taken.
Isn't there an easy way to have multiple copies of the same photo in Aperture? I guess the solution must be simple, but I just can't figure it out.
    Thanks,
    Michael Knudsen

    Michael,
Either use the Command to Duplicate Version, or New Version from Master depending upon whether your experiment needs to start with the latest edited version, or from the scratch position of the Master. Then you can either Remove the original version from an Album if already there, or move the new version it to a new Album as desired.

  • Incorrect Photo Orientation - Aperture 3 to Apple TV 2

About a year ago I imported my iPhoto library of about 23,000 photos to Aperture 3.  The iPhoto library had some small corruptions in it and I was hoping the more robust nature of Aperture 3 would fix these, but the import made the corruption issues significantly worse.  Old Events from iPhoto (now Projects in Aperture 3) were randomly split up all over the place, duplicates of many photos appeared and many photos seemed to have lost the EXIF(?) data indicating which way photos were taken (landscape or portrait mode). As a result of the last problem many photos were on their side or upside down.  Applecare were no use at all, claimed they had never heard of such a problem and had no idea how to solve these issues.
After laboriously fixing most of the problems by hand over the past year, all the photos in my Aperture 3 library (now around 25,000 photos), display the correct way up.
However, I still have one problem I can't fix.  When Apple TV picks the photos up from Aperture (on my iMac), via my WiFi network, it displays around 20% of them on their sides rather than the correct way up.  Rebooting everything multiple times hasn't fixed it. My guess is the Apple TV is reading the corrupted EXIF data associated with these photos, and ignoring their orientation as they appear (after manual correction), in Aperture.
Does anyone have a fix or any ideas please?

I believe that iTunes/Aperture keeps a cache for the photos shared with AppleTV. Those need to be updated. If you can figure out where the cache is and delete it, iTunes/Aperture should regenerate it in the correct orientation. Unfortunately I don't have the time now to figure out where it is.

  • I can no longer drag photos in Aperture (within a project, between projects

I find that suddenly I cannot drag photos in Aperture.  In other words, I cannot MOVE a photo at all, whether within a project or between projects and albums, &c.  Not only this, but I cannot copy & paste either.  I can still export photos, though.
I noticed this first a couple of hours ago when attempting to attach a photo into an email using the Mail application.  It wouldn't budge.  I thought it might have been a problem with the Mail program but no, it appears to be in Aperture because I then tried to drag the photo directly from Aperture into the email (which I've been doing for years).
I've done a rebuild and all that, yet the problem remains.
Any suggestions as to what I might do other than export the whole library to Lightroom and start learning all over again?

    Can you confirm:
    - that this is true for many Images?  Try different Images in several Projects.  If possible, try with an Image you had been able to drag-and-drop into Mail in the past.
    - that you can't drag from a Project to an Album.
    - that the Image you can't drag-and-drop has a Preview?  ("Photos➞Update Preview")
What do you mean us to understand with the "and all that" part of "I've done a rebuild and all that, yet the problem remains"?

  • Ipad won't sync with photos from Aperture - library cannot be found

Ok I give up. When trying to sync my photos onto my new ipad from Aperture in iTunes I keep getting the message "iTunes cannot sync photos to the ipad because your Aperture Library could not be found. Open the preferences window in Aperture and enable the preference to share previews with other applications. Well the library is where it should be in the Home folder and then pictures. I have the latest version of iTunes and Aperture. The only similar setting I can find in Aperture preferences is under Previews and Share Previews with ilife and iwork, no mention of itunes?
I've gone into my Aperture show contents and deleted the cache folder ipod photo cache (I previously synced to my iphone 3GS). It works syncing to iphoto, as I have tested it and the iphoto is in the same folder as the Aperture library so they are in the right location.
I am now at a loss as to what to try next......PLEASE HELP ME....
I don't want to have to have a Aperture library and an iphoto library on the go!

    Hi,
iTunes cannot sync photos to the ipad because your Aperture Library could not be found.
If you have an external drive connected to your Mac, disconnect that, restart your Mac, restart your iPad and try syncing photos from Aperture.

         Hi Frank.
I have just had jb Atlanta's problem while adjusting the contrast on a photo. I was creating a slideshow at the time. After a lot of reading up I was about to give up when I tried restoring the file to its original settings as you suggested. Bingo!
However, that would only work for me, if I restored the settings while in the slideshow. All data had 'disappeared' when I attempted to open the photo in its original project folder.
Hope this is of help. Many thanks.

  • How do I transfer photos from aperture and iPhoto to bridge?

How do I transfer photos from Aperture and iPhoto to Adobe Bridge.  I am using Photoshop CS6.  Many of my original photos were stored as raw files.

Here's how to access Mac iPhoto images for use in Photoshop
and so that they may be viewed by choosing that folder in Bridge..
    1. In the Finder, navigate to Users > [user name} > Pictures > iPhoto Library.
    2. Control-click (Right-click) the iPhoto Library file and choose Show Package Contents.
    3. A Finder window opens that shows the contents. The Masters folder (or called Originals folder) contains all of the photographs that are in iPhoto.
Photoshop cannot access this folder, but if you make a duplicate of the folder, the dupe will be accessible -- so:
    4. Control-click (Right-click) the folder named Masters (or Originals) and choose Duplicate.
5, Drag the duplicate folder which is named "Masters copy" or “Originals copy” from the iPhoto Library Finder window to the Desktop.
    6. Open images in Photoshop from file on desktop or view them in Bridge.
7  Rename the folder and move it elsewhere (probably to the Pictures folder), if desired.
And here is a Forum thread related to Aperture-to-Bridge

  • Is it possible to create Panoramic photos in Aperture

I know it is possible to create Panoramic photos in PS, but was wondering if it is also possibel in Aperture.

Imho ( ) it is worth understanding the difference between Aperture and programs like it (LR, etc.), and Photoshop.  The difference is compositing.  PS and other Graphics programs are built from the ground up as compositors.  Aperture and its cousins are Digital Asset Managers and digital photo development tools.  You use Aperture to manage your collection of digital photos, and to make any one photo into the best version possible for whatever use you have.  Then you export your digital photos from Aperture, and use them in graphics programs to create new graphics.
In general, if you are combining things (text, geometric primitives, multiple graphic elements, etc.), you use a graphics program; if you are optimizing a photo for a particular use, you can do it using Aperture.
For panoramas, I import the photos I'm going to use into Aperture, Stack them and add a color label (so I can see at a glance that these Images are part of that kind of series), check the WB, the export them to a temporary Finder folder.  I use Hugin to open all the exported files and stitch them together.  Then I import the panorama I created using Hugin and place it as the Stack Pick of the Stack, and make whatever additional adjustments I want for the use I have for the panorama.

Have a look at your import setting specifically Store Files:
Make sure it is set to where you want the originals to go.
Message was edited by: Frank Caggiano - Don;t empty the system trash. The originals that you deleted from the Desktop are in there and are the only copies you have unless they are still in the camera.
