Compression fails with Characteristic attribute exists twice

Guys,
I ran a compression on cube 0PP_C03 that failed with "Characteristic
attribute exists twice"
I see that "Note 859320 - Multiple reference points in InfoCubes with non-cumulative v" tells me to run that program to clear up any dups in the E Fact table.
I currently have 4,060,118 rows in the E Fact table.
I ran rsrv program "Multiple Entries in Dimensions of a (Basis) InfoCube" and there are NO dups in the F Fact table.
Running "Note 859320 - Multiple reference points in InfoCubes with non-cumulative v" indicates that I have 42,627 dups. The note talks about running RSCDS_MERGE_DUPL_REF_POINTS and I ran it using no reference points in simulation mode. Maybe I need to specify some selection conditions?
I'd like to make sure I am executing the correct procedure prior to running this pgm live. Additionally, all of a sudden I have this same condition on cubes 0PM_C03, 0SD_C03, and ZSM_C001 as well. This is the first time I have seen this ocurrence.
Has anyone any experienve running this or having this compression error condition?
Mike

As I remember I got the error message:
Characteristic attribute exists twice with DBMAN 231
So I ran se38 pgm:
RSCDS_MERGE_DUPL_REF_POINTS, putting in the cube like 0PM_C03 and pkg size 100
and it fixed the problem.
Hope that helps. I just saw this and we don't have BW anymore. We have moved to HANA and shutdown BW.

    Hi,
We are compressing some top listed productive  cubes with process chain every week. But from past 3 iterations one of the cube is failing to do so. It is triggering an error

Can any one suggest how to proceed to make the compression upto the mark.

Hi, it seems this errors comes from the fact that the asm wasn't registred in the cluster.
so you have ti recreate the asm instance and register this instance in the cluster.
    srvctl add asm -p $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/init$+ASM.ora
    srvctl config asm
i hope it could help !

    Regards,

    Hi Michael,
How do you make your backups (which options for brbackup? Using RMAN or 3rd party software via backint?). The "compress only" run is useful only if you use the O/S level storage utilities (cpio or dd) for the backup, so it might not even be necessary.
Running the compress-only with BR tracing enabled might also shed some light on the error (SET BR_TRACE=15, see note 29321).
Also, just in case, please do check the "Maximize Throughput for Network Applications" setting as per note 171085.

  • Why does appimp fail with "id already exists?"

After upgrading to a recent release of Portal on 8i, we have to use the appexp utility to export Portal objects. We exported an entire application and then dropped it. When we try to run appimp to put it back we get errors that objects will fail because "ID already exists". We found note 168309.1 on Metalink but it didn't give us a fix. Has anybody else encountered this and maybe found a solution?
    Thanks in advance
    Ron

This may be happenning due to some residual data in the wwv_modules$ table pertaining to the application you want to export. Delete the residual data and the try re-importing.

  • Attribute Change Run in Process Chain failed with SQL 942 error

    Hi,
Attribute change run in th eprocess chain failed with the message " SQL Error 942" and ran succesfully after repeating the step.Searched in Forums for similar error but the solutions were not apt.
Any pointers would be of great help!!
    Thanks in advance,
    Bhagyarekha.

    Hi Bhagyarekha,
The reason behind that error could be:
An attempt is made to activate a characteristic whose compounding was replaced and whose navigation attributes were simultaneously deleted. The replacement of the compounding temporarily deletes the M view of the characteristic during internal activation. The process of deleting navigation attributes involves converting the attribute SID tables. However, the M-view of the characteristic, which has just been deleted, is needed for this conversion.
    Check this SAP Note:
Note 684405 - Replacing the compounding and deleting navigation attr.
    Hope it helps.

I got the same problem with you. If you check in your physical directory, you wouldn't find F:\OracleBI11G\modules\org.apache.ant_1.7.0. Maybe when the installtools installed the EPM System, it detected that apache had been installed by OBIEE. Maybe you'll find F:\OracleBI11G\modules\org.apache.ant_1.7.1. The way I took to make configtools worked was by copying F:\OracleBI11G\modules\org.apache.ant_1.7.1 to F:\OracleBI11G\modules\org.apache.ant_1.7.0 and re run the configtools.
Now I got the other problem when I tried to deploy foundation service to weblogic. It gave me EPMCFG-10067 : Failed to get admin user name for the domain.
Try to copy F:\OracleBI11G\modules\org.apache.ant_1.7.1 to F:\OracleBI11G\modules\org.apache.ant_1.7.0. Maybe after that you can help me solving my problem.

    Hello Steve,
Firstly, you cannot install Outlook with Exchange because they share certain dll files.
About the EMS question, I suggest we try rebuilding the powershell virtual directory. If it still does not work, check the application log for more referernce.

    Hi,
Yes, you need to change your master repository ID.
When you install ODI, you need to have a unique ID for each repository no matter whether it is a Work Repository or Master Repository. Reason is, ODI creates every object with a uniue sequence number and the last three digits of this objects will be the repository ID.
    FOr example,
you created a dataserver for the first time, its ID will be 1000 (if master rep ID is 0), second one will be 2000 and so on...
similalry, in Designer, the very first interface is going to have 1001(work rep id is 1), then 2001 and so on...
When we migrate from one environment to another environment, there is possibility of overwriting existing objects which corrupts repository.

    kk
