Compression for mov and flv

Might be a dumb question, but . . .
Is H.264 a compression codec for Quicktime movies only? Not for Flash videos?
My CS3 version of Flash Video Encoder seems to offer On2 VP6 and Sorenson Spark as the compression codecs for Flash video, flv. Are there other codecs for use with flv?

F4v is h264 flash. Its in cs5, though im sure there are other tools out there to encode f4v's.

I need to find a video converter for .Mov to .Flv(or maybe Mp4 or mpeg).
I found out that you cant create a playlist in .mov...so i need to convert. Youtube's conversion seems to suck though...can i get a better quality .flv conversion?
I have a lot of videos +around 70+ that need to convert to a format with playlist functionality for mac and windows.
Whats a good software to convert to flv.or the other format? currently my videos are 960x540.

Apple TV 2 all of a sudden has trouble streaming. I stream from my desktop computer's iTunes for movies, and tonight it started stopping randomly mid movie and saying it wasn't connected. Any ideas? Router? ATV dying?

It just says not connected, and as soon as it bails to menu, it connects again and will play for another minute before doing the same thing all over again.

If the movies are not being played in the pre installed videos app, you may have systems sounds muted..
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.

Some of my .MOV and .FLV files are missing audio

I have not touched these files, and yet some of them no longer play audio. Some .MOV files do work and same with .FLV. Why would just a few files be affected and not all of them?
What can I do to restore the audio?

The weird thing is that the audio once worked, so something in my settings have changed.
Over the years, QT support for MP3 audio seems to have ebbed and flowed with the times. I believe the latest upgrade(s) no longer contain internal QT support and may even ignore on of my older QT MP3 installed components. On the other hand, I believe Perian component package contains support for both the FLV file container and the MP3 VRB audio. Haven't really run any recent tests to see which components are doing what for specific files. I.e., I usually wait and do that if/when a conflict develops. (The old "If it's not broke, don't fix it!" philosophy.) In any event, mine are still working so this has not been an issue for me.

But i get:

The "compatible"-Parameter is set to 11.1:

Do i have to change something in the database?

Do I need to always have a keyboard and monitor connected to use as a home share device for movies and music?

I have two MacBook airs and two Apple tv's. I want to set up a Mac mini and rip over 800 dvd's and 600cd's to it then use the apple tv's to veiw the movies and play songs. Just in my house not streaming over the net. I am looking at the Mac mini server with the 2 1 TB drives. I know I don't need the server but it is the drives I'm looking at. I want to set up the mini and then remove the key board and monitor.
Does this sound right? Any better ideas?

I'm running a mini with no monitor, and have had no problems. I use Screen Sharing when I need to get into it, and for those rare occasions when I can't reach it via SS, I have a monitor that i'll pull out of storage to get everything back in working order.
How are the two 1 TB drives configured? If they're mirroring, then you may need more capacity if you're going to rip 800 DVDs. And while we're on the subject of drives, I can't tell from your comment if you're going to buy a Thunderbolt drive, but you should be able to get away with something much cheaper (and slower) like a USB2.0 drive.

Best storage for movies and photos?

I would like to remove my home movies and photos from my hard drive but still have easy access. What is the best way to do this? Online storage? who one? or external drive? how big? fast connection wire?
I plan on upgrading my imac soon but want to clean this one up for my kids...as it si very slow and maxed out on space due to large cache of home movies and photos.
Any recommendations?

An external hard drive is best and fastest. Don't get "just any" model. The name-brand units that go on sale every weekend at "Computers R Us" are often so Windows-centric that they work poorly on many Macs.

Every one has been rock solid and well worth the extra money. I get ones with FireWire. They are faster than USB2 on older Macs (I assume yours is pre-2006 as you are posting here??)
Note that I linked models that use standard desktop 3.5-inch drive and have their own power supply. They are the most reliable.
Online storage has two limitations: 1) the speed and quality of your connection will cause variations in transfer speed, and 2) the software itself often slows your computer.

K1 - Google Android Market Missing Tabs for Movies and Music

Am I missing something or does the Android Market on the K1 not offer Movies and Music? I have tabs for Apps and Books, but there is no way to rent movies nor buy songs through the market. As a work-around, I can go to market.android.com and rent movies and buy music, but for some reason it's not available within the Market App. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing?
Just so you know, I have a new K1, I've run all the system updates, and I'm not rooted.

That explains the versioning of the Android Market app on K1. I thought it was odd that it was 1.0.28... whereas Google support always refer to version to Android Market version 3.3+.
I've been looking for the latest Market to get the PIN/parental controls. On a side-note/rant -- With the existing Android Market, my younger one has already made some in-app purchase charges playing with a game from GAMEVIL (BTW for K1 owners DO NOT DOWNLOAD GAMEVIL games ie AirPenguin if you have young ones. Their games make it easy to purchase items and they were not refunding it. Apparently I'm not alone if you look at the 1 start reviews. I've already lost $$$ which I'm trying to get back... In the meantime I advise anyone with Google Wallet accounts to remove their Credit Card)

Two locations for movies and music

Has anyone ever split their library for music and movies? I want to keep my music on the hard drive and place my movies on an external hard drive. Any way of doing this?

you have your appletv connected to itunes as a sharing connection only (ie not sync options).
you need to remove the link to itunes and set it up again, this time as a primary library.

Dual monitor use audio output for movie and other for MBP

I know on mackbooks I've seen firewire used as an input for a Weiss Dac if you're into two channel audio. Do any reiceivers take firewire as an input for hometheater? Has anyone tested Firewire outputs on their W series? I'm told that firewire is sometimes preferable to USB, I'm not sure why this would be, can USB support passthrough of DTS encoded signals?
In the case that firewire works and you Do not have a firewire source, maybe something like this would be of value It converts firewire to digital coaxial s/pdif and allows passthrough of DTS and AC3.

As I'm into audio the critical thing here (and what you're paying for when you purchase blue-ray, is maintaining the digital information from the disk in an unconverted form. You want a direct bit pass through, and you want as little jitter introduced to the signal as possible. You most certainly don't want the sound card getting in the way, Digtital to Analog converting and then reverse packaging it up and putting it out over the soundcard digital out. My problem is I'm not familiar enough with computer audio to know how exactly the sounds is transmitted from your blue ray drive to the digital interface you've chosen.
Anyone know why USB digital out would not be a prefered method?

Preparing for move and having trouble

For the last year I've used AT&T DSL at home. I had a 2Wire DSL Modem and wireless router combo. Well I'm moving and will be using Comcast cable modem. No such thing as a cable modem and wireless router combo, so I've pulled an old linksys broadband B wireless router out to make sure it works with my AT&T DSL box before I go out and buy a cable modem from someone. Well, I connect a rollover cable from one of the ports on the AT&T DSL/Router and patch is to the Internet jack on my Linksys. I can access the linksys at 192.168.1.1, but cannot get any internet connectivity. The linksys looks like it's happy, but nothing is passing back to my computer. I have hooked the computer up directly to the linksys and through wireless, and I changed the cable from a rollover to a straight through and I get the same results. Both my Mac and the router are set to obtain the IP automatically.
Can anyone help?

Henry, You have my set up correct spot on. I'm doing this just to verify that the wireless router works. When I move in 2 days, I won't be using the AT&T DSL modem/router. I'll be using a cable modem, thereby losing my router and wireless capability. I'm just making sure I can set my linksys up and get it working. I've gone into my setup on the linksys and told it to obtain the IP address automatically and I turned off Act as DHCP Server so that it should be acting just like a gateway, but I'm still not having any luck.
Does anyone know if I should be using a straight through or rollover cable?
