Compression Options

Where are the different compression options such as, MPG-1, MPG-2, etc. in the program?

in the preferences, though I think if you want mpeg1, you have to use Compressor to do that, then drop in the files. DVDSP won't recompress them, it'll just use them.

  • System Compression option not showing up in Disk Cleanup tool

    I am trying to give the new "System Compression" option in cleanmgr a spin but for some reason it is not showing up on my system. I have installed Windows 10 TP into a small partition on an eSATA hard disk, leaving my internal HDD for Windows 7,
    if that makes a difference. I'm using a clean install of build 9926. Any ideas?

    Hi andrum99,
    Could you please explain a bit for the system compression in cleanmgr?
    I only seeing the option under the drive properties for Compress this drive to save disk space, and I never heard of the new '' system compression".

  • BSP adds CR/LF marker at the end of the page even with compression options

    Hello!
    I'm creating normal BSP Page with Flow Logic and setting the contents myself:
    <%@page language="abap" %><%
      response->set_cdata( '-=-' ).
    %>
    The problem is that WebAS somehow always adds a CR/LF (new line) marker at the end of the page (even if I set compression option to "Remove leading and trailing spaces"). I also tried to set different mime-types.
    On the other side there is a BSP Application it00 (described here http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/eb/8c683c8de8a969e10000000a114084/content.htm ) that shows the uploaded file right.
    So I was trying to include that 'solution' setting OnInputProcessing event to this
    *         set response data to be the file content
              runtime->server->response->set_cdata( '!=!' ).
    *         set the mime-type and file size in the response
              runtime->server->response->set_header_field(
                name  = 'Content-Type'
                value = 'text/plain' ).
              runtime->server->response->set_header_field(
                name  = 'Content-Length'
                value = '3' ).
              navigation->response_complete( ).
    But nothing happens at all.
    Please, help me getting rid of these two annoying bytes ('CR/LF') at the end of page.

    Thank you, Cornelia!
    It works now.
    The following code is "must have"
    navigation->response_complete( ).

  • Compress option missing/greyed out

    Hi
    The compress option is completely absent from my contextual menu (using right click) and when I try and access it via the 'File: Compress' option it is greyed out. Any ideas? Driving me mad

  • For some reason, my compression option is grayed out under "File" menu, and when I select a folder with multiple files, or multiple documents, and try to right-click or tap the mousepad with two fingers, I do not get a "compress" option available. Help.

    I don't know why, but when I select a folder with multiple docs contained within it, or multiple files, the Compress option is grayed out under the File menu, nor is it available when I right-click. Please help.

    Yes it is, but I have the same problem of the option does not appear with "right click" (I'm actually control-clicking), and COMPRESS is grayed out under the file menu. I'd like to fix it.
    Hmm. After finding the Archive Utility,* I tried archiving the folder. It came out as .cpgz, ugh. Found there was a preference to make .zip the default. It worked!
    And now…the menus are not grayed out. ?!?! OK.'
    Hope this helps someone.
    *You cannot find this via search, apparently it is a hidden file, you have to click from the root drive through to /System/Library/CoreServices (Thanks for the file path Alberto!)

  • Question about "compression option" in workbook

    Hello,
    We'd' like to use the compression option in the workbook (with J#).
    I have 2 questions :
    -How to set this option automatically by default for new workbooks ?
    -How to set this option in mass for old workbooks ?
    Thank you in advance for your help
    Best regards
    Nicolas

    The note talks about "optimized storage" for a workbook, which I am assuming is the same as the "compression option" you asked about.
    And I quote:
    "Solving the issue for a specific workbook:
    - Open the specific workbook in BEx Analyzer
    - Open Workbook Settings dialog
    - Check "Use Optimized Storage"
    - Click on OK Button
    - Save the workbook
               Note: As the change is done in the workbook settings, it affects only that workbook.
    Solving the issue for any workbook within a system:
    - Login to the BW system
    - Execute transaction RS_FRONTEND_INIT
    - Add a new Entry: ANA_USE_OPTIMIZE_STG = X
    - Save your change
               Note: After applying this change, all (re-)saved workbooks will be stored with optimized BI metadata."
    Looks to me like it might be helpful, but you can be the judge...

  • Is the JPEG compression option on TIF files lossy or lossless?

    Is the JPEG compression option on TIF files lossy or lossless?

    I accidentally used the JPEG compression on some important TIFF images.  I usually use
    no compression but didn't realise the option had been chosen.  I can't easily re-scan.  I have
    read about lossless JPEG and with TIF considered a lossless format I had hoped this may
    be the case.

  • "Compress" option in Finder .. Do you lose any quality?

    Hello. I'm just wondering about the "Compress" option when you right-click anything in the "Finder".. I know that it makes a (.zip) file of whatever you select..
    Does this compression cause any reduction in quality? I have a TON of (.wav) and (.mp3) libraries that I would like to compress for storage purposes, but it is extremely important that there will be no loss in sound quality or file integrity..
    Thoughts?
    • MacBook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core i7 (Late 2011) .. 16gb 1333 MHz DDR3 .. 2x Samsung 850 Pro 512gb SSD (internal)

    • Lacie 1TB 5400rpm external thunderbolt drive

    No. You only lose quality when using an audio compression method; the Finder uses a data compression one, which preserves everything.
    General data compression methods need to be lossless. Unlike audio-specific ones, the program performing the compression has no way of knowing what can be safely discarded.

  • Does Mac OS X v10.8.5's Preview have a compression option for JP(E)G images?

    Hello.
    Does Mac OS X v10.8.5's Preview have a compression option for JP(E)G images? I did not see an option for it.
    Thank you in advance.

    Always make and work with a copy of your original image.
    .jpg is a 'lossy' compression, so once saved to a smaller file size, the detail cannot be regained by attempting to re-save the smaller image back to a larger file size.
    In OS X 10.8.5, using Finder, I used File Export (but you can also use Save As, revealed with Command+Duplicate in the Finder menu)
    The original digital image was 6.7MB, created with a digital camera at 4000 pixels wide x 3000 pixels height.
    Using the slider as shown above to change the Quality setting in increments of 2 'bars' here are the file size results.
    Example image saved at '2' quality (smallest file size): {click on the images to enlarge on your screen}
    A very 'busy' scene, saved at the smallest file size, might be OK for casual web use, such as social media posts.
    Viewed at magnification, the artifacts, loss of detail, and digital 'noise' become apparent.

  • Can't find compress option

    When I right click on a file, the pop-up doesn’t contain the “Compress” option. Where is it now?

    I have the exact same issue - I right-click any file and there is no "compress" option.  I am trying to send a file to tech support of an application I use, and they need the file to be in zip format.  Their instructions say to right click (or option-click) and select "compress"....
    Hard to do when the option doesn't exist!
    Where in the world did it go?

  • Tar command with compress option

    We are in process of developing the shell script to take the oracle database backup and using the TAR commnad with compress option as like below. But this commnad is not working. Please hlep
    cd /u01/oradev/datafiles
    tar cvf - data | compress -c > /u02/oraprod/dbf/proddata_`date +%d%b%Y`.tar.Z
    Appreciate your kind help.
    OS : Linux v5.5

    Assuming that you know what you are doing ito using primitive tar to backup a database, as oppose to rman, the command on Linux would look something as follows:
    tar -czvf database-backup.tgz /u01/orclwhere
    -c = create tar
    -z = compress tar
    -v = verbose
    -f database-backup.tgz  = filename of tarball
    /u01/orcl = database directory containing the data filesAlso make sure that the control files and pfile or spfile, are included.
    And seriously reconsider this approach. This process can run happily and without any errors, and still provide a totally useless database backup.

  • Best Compression Option For Text Only?

    I'll need to pre-render a text element to use in a project later on, and unfortunately, I've tried everything I can think of but I'm simply going to have to add compression to it to make it workable. Uncompressed it's to large and PP crashes when I try to bring it in as a png sequence (as it's over 6,000 frames long).
    So, this is just simple scrolling text, lasting 4min and has a transparent background. Can anyone recommend the best compression for a video with just text? My goal is, if I DO have to compress this, to keep it the absolute highest quality possible as it will get recompressed atleast once after this.
    I've played around with Quicktime and it seems to have a alpha channel option with some type of PNG compression agent. Not sure if that's the best way to go.
    Thnx!

    I wouldn't say it's a HDD storage issue as I have a 1.5TB drive. I'm just trying to keep the video file sizes down to avoid unnecessary bloat. The video in question (at 1080p for 4min) is 2GB. That's a little to steep from a storage stand point if I plan to do many of these types of videos.
    However, I did some research and tried rendering the same video using QuickTime's "Animation" codec (which is also supposedly a lossless codec). The file size is now down to around 400MB and I have an alpha channel I can use for transparency.
    What are your(s) thoughts on this particular codec or are there better options?

  • Best compression option?

    Hello all, I am trying to make a recording of a village council meeting small enough for download.
    As it sits now in DV format, it is just minutes over 3 hours long and 37gb's big.
    I have used Mpeg4 and got it down to 442mb. I tried the Sorenson 3 codec, because this book I have here about iMovie said it was a good compression tech, and it compressed it to 9.74GB, obviously, not a good size for download.
    What I am asking is this, is there a way to make it smaller and still watchable.
    I resized it down to 320x240 as well.

    Jason,
    Did you edit and cut out the dead spots (eg. long pauses, waitng for someone to walk to the podium, etc)?
    If not, removing useless footage (barring legal impedements) could greatly reduce the size of the video.
    If you cut enough useless footage maybe 320 X 240 is still a possibility (160 x 120) is rather small.
    You could even break it up in topics, eg. taxes, education, etc. and post several videos covering different topics where the viewer can click and go straight to the subject of interest.
    Youtube.com lets you post up to 10min/100MB (320 X 240 viewing) at a time and can be restricted to private viewing for members belonging to a certain community or having access priviledges to the site. If you have a topic lasting longer than 10min/100MB it can be uploaded as part1, part2, etc.
    In my opinion 160 X 120 would be my very, very, last option.
    Just some thoughts.

  • PremierePro4 Help with Capture Video Compression Options

    Last week I started converting my old VHS tapes using a Canopus ADVC 110 box, a Mac with OSX 10.4.11, and PremierePro 4.0.0.
    Everything went fine until last night when I lost my compression choices in Premiere - Capture Settings - Video - Compression.
    Previously I had numerous compression type options and was using either DVCPro or DVCPro50. There were also many others available.
    Now, I only see DVCPro50 when my Canopus is attached as the source. If I remove the Canopus my iSight becomes the source and its only compression type is Y'CbCr 4:2:2 - uyvy.
    Thus far, I restarted and replugged everything, verified permissions, and unloaded and reloaded Premiere. None of that works.
    I suspect there is something running interference somewhere that I need to delete or reset.
    Help is greatly welcomed. Thanks

    I am also not sure how Mac OS updates affect other things, but on the PC, they can kill a video driver, or an audio driver instantly, and often do. However, those PC-specific behaviors should have zero impact on your options drop-downs going missing. I was just thinking aloud there.
    I'm trying to think of what else might have changed, as when something works one day, but not the next, then something has changed, and the task is to find out what it was.
    I know that iTunes usually also updates QT, and that is why I do not allow it to update, until I am positive that the PC version of QT is a good one with Adobe products - not all have been, so I am skitterish.
    On the PC, QT loves to install and go and seize the file associations of everything that it can play, unless one does a manual install. I wonder if QT Player was also installed with your iTunes? Also not sure how a Mac does the file type association linking, but on the PC, if certain programs loose their file associations, then strange things can happen. I assume that you are doing your Capture to MOV (you probably said in the OP, but I've forgotten), so I wonder if QT has messed with the file type. Wish I could tell you where to even start, but I cannot. No one ever lets me near their Mac's, as all PC-users are bad joux-joux!
    Just thinking aloud again, but good luck,
    Hunt

  • IMovie 11 compression options lost ?

    Hi everybody !
    Yesterday I was trying to export my iMovie project as I usually do, using QuickTime.
    When I opened the video option to set the compressor to use I noticed some options were missing (e.g. "None", to export without using compression).
    How is it possible ?
    Before Lion OS I'm sure this option was available (I always export my projects without compression).
    Please ... help me ...
    Thanks everybody,
    Stefano.

    Hi, thanks for your answer.
    Unfortunately I cannot see them.
    The only options available now are:
    1) Animation
    2) Apple Intermediate Codec
    3) DV - PAL
    4) DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    5) DVCPRO - PAL
    6) DVCPRO50 - NTSC
    7) DVCPRO50 - PAL
    8) H.264
    9) PHOTO JPEG
    10) VIDEO MPEG-4
    After "H.264" I had "None", to export clips without compression.
    I'm pretty sure this happened after Lion OS update.
    Also "Apple Pixlet Video", "JPEG 2000" and "PNG" codecs were available before Lion OS.
    Could it be an issue about Quicktime ?
