Compression ratio after HANA Migration.

Hi Team,
I am working on HANA migration and as part of this I would like to know the compression ratio before and after migration.
Please guide me how to calculate the compression ratio.
Thanks in advance.
Best Regards,
Raj.

Hello Raj,
As far as i know the compression ratio is usually calculated as
{The size of the ERP base table in "GB"  divided by 5 and then double the number} for  headroom needed for internal Hana operational activities.

Krishna.

  • Problems query data after data migration to Hana

Hi We currently have 2 BW environments: Release: 701 SP-Level: 0014 Support Package: SAPKW70114 DB: No Hana Release: 740 SP-Level: 0005 Support Package: SAPKW74005 DB: Hana It was necessary to migrate data cubes BW 701 -> BW 740, because in ECC only history of the last 18 months is maintained. After this migration, when I make a query in Query Designer and I use between in "Filters and Restrictions" no returned values, but if I include the value and not use the between the values are displayed. For example: I created a query with: one key figure, Comp_Code, Material and Fiscper. On filters and restrictions I informed that should return only the materials between 0001 and 0003. When running the query does not return values, but if I change the filter to only return materials 0001, 0002 and 0003, the query returns data. Note .: This problem occurs only with the migrated data from the BW 701, loads of ECC deltas are functioning normally. Could you help me solve this issue? Best Regards

Important point: I found that if you run the query in RSRT "Execute + Debug" button and do not use the option "Do not use SAP HANA / BWA Index (0)" the query runs without problems.
    Additional Information:
    - BW on Hana environment 740 is a new installation.
    - To load the historical data for the BW on Hana was created an RFC with the BW 701, classic BW as source system to new BW HANA.
    - BW 701 was generated Export Data Sources ( From cube to cube, from DSO to DSO) and we used of data sources to migrate historical data.
    - Then BW on Hana is a new installation, but only the historical data were extracted from the BW 701 (no Hana)
    - Export Data source generated on DSO data is ok, but the Data source of export from a cube, data is not ok. After data load this historical data, when I make a query in Query Designer and I use between in "Filters and Restrictions" no returned values, but if I include the value and not use the between the values are displayed, but the problem occurs only in the query on the Cube.
    - Are there any recommended when historical data is extracted on the Cube by Export Data Source?

  • Challenges  after exadata migration

    Challenges after exadata migration
We are planning to move our OLTP db and DW db in one exadata x2 quarter rack in 2 node cluster. i want to know after migration of data, what are challenges the application is going face in exadata?
Whether the entire schema's index strategy needs to be revised? What will be behaviour of SQL queries in OLTP and DW ? whether all the sql statement need to be revised?
    Will it be easy go?
Please advise me with key steps what need to be taken care..

    Hi,
Most import which need to be considered before migration.
    1) Your Exadata disk groups should have 4 MB. So you should choose best migration method where target asm diskgroup size remains 4MB. Otherwise you cann't benifit out of exadata
    2) Your Large object extent should be multiple of 4mb to properly layout on AU boundaries.
    3) Use cell_partition_large_extents to enable large partition table to automatically fin in AU boundaries.
    4) Use CELL_FLASH_CACHE Keep for most volatile tables.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/exadata-smart-flash-cache-twp-v5-1-128560.pdf
    5) Use IORM to divide load between oltp and dw
    6) Make use of EHCC to archive tables and large tables to save space and increase performance.
    7) Indexes can still be usable in OLTP env. So you need to check for critical quires that index is going to benifit or not. You can make index invisible and then check the exeuction plan so see its impact.
    9) Make data compress during direct path load.
    10) I hope partitioning is already if so then it can make remarkable performance improvement. If not then understand the business logic and built quires which can do partition pruning.
Please take all these consideration w.r.t applciation.

  • Compression ratio of Essbase

From Oracle documentation Essbase does have data compression feature and will compress data before write back into harddisk. And data will be expanded into cache memory when data is read back from harddisk.
From Essbase EAS we check the compression ratio is 0.01. Does it mean that the data is nearly uncompressed?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
The compression ratio represents the ratio of the compressed block size (including overhead) to the uncompressed block size, regardless of the compression type in effect. Overhead is the space required by mechanisms that manage compression/expansion. The larger the number, the more compression.
For Ex. 1- Suppose uncompressed block size is 100 KB and after compressed it becomes 10 KB then -
Compression Ratio = (uncompressed block size / comprressed block size with overhead) = 100 KB/ 10 KB = 10 KB
2- Suppose uncompressed block size is 100 KB and after compressed it becomes 50 KB then -
    Compression Ratio = uncomprressed block size / (*comprressed block size with overhead)= 100 KB/ 50 KB = 2 KB
So compression ratio is high for example 1 compare to example 2 hence more compression for example 1.
    Hope it answers you.

  • Check the compression ratio or percentage achieved for the database

    Hi there,
Is there a report or utility I can either at sap level or DB2 level to check the compression ratio or percentage achieved after activating compression on DB2?
I am aware of the utility /ISIS/ZCOMP  but not sure if this can help in achieving my request.
    Regards,
    Venkatesh.K

Use the ADMIN_GET_TAB_COMPRESS_INFO, and on 9.7 also the ADMIN_GET_INDEX_COMPRESS_INFO table function.

  • Can I improve PDF OCR accuracy and compression ratio by running it through Acrobat X Std or Pro?

I scanned a book and stored the PDF file with minimal OCR and low compression using mp ex navigator v1. Can I use Acrobat X Standard or Acrobat X Pro to take that PDF file and improve both the OCR accuracy percentage AND the compression ratio, and then it in a new PDF file?
I am running Windows 8 64-bit.  It may or may not matter, but I have Office 2010.

I purchased Acrobat Pro XI last month to try to digitize all my text books (Scanned as TIFF and imported to PDF).  I've been pretty unimpressed in general.  Specifically to your question, it seems that if a page has a photo on it or some complex image, Acrobat won't deskew it.  My version updated just today to 11.0.06 and it still has this problem.  I think it does deskew when "Apply Adaptive Compression" is selected because that option causes each page to be broken into parts (text/image).
Just incase you haven't tried, on the Optimize Scanned PDF dialoge box, make sure the slider is set to "High Quality" instead of "Small Size", that may help with the image quality.  In my tests, I ended up leaving it turned up all the way.
I have finally put together a workflow to deal with the problem.  I use Acrobat to extract each page as a TIFF to a separate directory.  I use a third party program to deskew and crop the images.  I use Acrobat to reassemble them into a PDF.  I use Text Recognition/In this File (Searchable Image Exact) to do OCR.
I am pleased with the results though Acrobat tries to OCR a lot of images and I just get a bunch of jumbled invisible text on my images.  I don't mind it though cuz it's invisible, but pretty pathetic given the cost of this product.
I'll mention the third party program I use in a post below because I don't know if I'm allowed to post it or not.  I just don't want this post to be deleted for mentioning another program.
    Hope this helps others.

  • Application is throwing NSAPI and other errors after the migration

We started seeing NSAPI and other errors after the migration of new codes and recently make some changes
    1) During the migration, all the 4 WLS cluster instances were bounced simultaneously. What is the best practice and recommendation from BEA Oracle? Do we need to bounce it one by one for any specific reason?
    2) we recently introduced the 4th weblogic cluster instance on Solaris 10 zone. All other WLS instances are running on Solaris 8.
Is it okay to have two different OS versions( Solaris 8 and Solaris 10) and different hardware to host WLS cluster instances? Does BEA Oracle support this kind of configuration?
    3) We are consistently seeing below errors in the iplanet web server error logs even though site is working fine
[11/Sep/2009:08:53:50] failure ( 4453): for host XX.XX.XX.XX trying to POST /servlet/FSO, wl-proxy reports: exception occurred for backend host 'YY.YY.YY.YY/23120/0': 'CONNECTION_REFUSED [os error=0, line 1732 of URL.cpp]: Error connecting to host YY.YY.YY.YY.YY:23120'
Do we need to upgrade our WLS proxy plugin? . Current version of WLS proxy plug-in is libproxy_61.so. Our Weblogic version is WLS 92 MP2
I'll really appreciate if some can anwsers those questions

OK booted in to Virtualbox, seems too be working fine this way, maybe it is the ATi drivers
    any Help would be appreciated

  • Somewhat OT:  MP3 vs. WMA Compression Ratio

Sorry that this is a little off-topic, but do any of you know where I could find information about typical compression ratios, at a given level of (admittedly subjective) audio quality, between MP3, AAC, and WMA?
I couldn't find much via Google.
I ask because I've recently been crunching down - by nearly a factor of 3! - my iTunes library from MP3 to AAC without too terribly much loss in audio quality. Unfortunately, my car's CD player takes only MP3 and WMA (well, and normal CDs of course). I was thinking that if WMA can also crunch it down from MP3, it could be really cool. However, the fact that I see a lot of WMA-to-MP3 converters, and not the reverse in a Google search, I gather, probably means that there isn't much advantage in WMA over MP3.

    not a problem.
Maybe this might help as well? (It's listening quality at a given bitrate rather than bitrate/compression at a given listening quality, but it might be of some assistance.)

  • Video compression in After Effects

    Hi,
i have a little problem with video compression in After Effects. When I was looking for example on that video: http://vimeo.com/18672227 the quality in HD is really great. When we was trying to compress our video in After Effects, the best result, which we was able to get, had 80 MB and 18 seconds and the quality was still much worst than like the one which i posted above. 80 MB for only 18 secs of video and with that quality seems too much for me. I really doubt it is normal. Then for example video which i posted above should have 2000 MB and i really don't believe that.
Is there some way how to get HD quality video for internet streaming with affordable size from After Effect rendering compression? Which settings, formats or codecs I should use? Or do i need some other Adobe program which is builded for this better compressions?

You are looking for an easy answer where there is none. Yes, there are better tools than AE for final compression like Adobe Media Encoder, but your format will still be H.264. The rest is very much a matter of experience and a combination of settings for data rates, encoding passes and so on plus tricks on how to deal with Gamma shifts and color skewing due to the chroma undersampling. Without seeing the actual footage, nobody will be able to give you any exact pointers, but generally the presets you find in AE and AME will provide a good basis. The rest is just tippy-toeing through the settings and learning by doing. Also do some general research on the matter. Because it is so complex and difficult, this topic is discussed to death on pretty much every forum that deals with video editing, DVD/ BluRay authoring and ripping movies for fun...

  • SM59 "Remote Logon" malfunctions after server migration

    Hi all,
Originally our BW server is running under I386 platform. And the server seems not powerful enough, so we decided to migrate the server to IA64 platform.
After we migrated the server to the IA64 platform, we've performed some basic checking, including SM59 check. But problem occurs.
After I choose one of the RFC destination from SM59, I CAN execute the "Connection Test" and "Unicode Test" correctly. But when I press the button "Remote Logon", nothing happens.
I've also checked for the developer trace and nothing can be found. So I have also updated the Kernel to the latest version but the result is still the same ("Remote Logon" malfunctions).
    Do you have any idea?
    Many Many Thanks.
    Best Regards,
    Marco

    > Originally our BW server is running under I386 platform. And the server seems not powerful enough, so we decided to migrate the server to IA64 platform.
Oh - IA64 - x86_64 would have been as powerful (or even more) and cheaper but neverless - to your problem:
    > After I choose one of the RFC destination from SM59, I CAN execute the "Connection Test" and "Unicode Test" correctly. But when I press the button "Remote Logon", nothing happens.
Is the user provided a DIALOG user on the remote system? If not, then you can't logon.

  • Clean install after a migration

I am doing my first migration from my G4 over the new macbook pro and I didn't move the apps, but I couldn't deselect moving the library files. I would prefer to have a clean install for FCP. Should I run FCP remover after the migration. I never had trouble with my G4, but I had all kinds of trouble with my G5 and compressor. Again I was hoping for a clean install on FCP2.

G4 Mac to Intel Mac migration? Stop.
You can do this with your user documents, photos, music etc. Don't do it with software.
    Fresh install for everything else.

  • Problem with Lion upgrade after running Migration Assistant

I have a MacBook Pro that I purchased earlier this year.  I bought a new MacBook Air yesterday.
I used Migration Assistant to migrate some of my data/settings from my old MacBook Pro to the new MacBook Air.  After the migration, all of my original data was still available on the MacBook Pro (good as I wanted to keep a copy on the MacBook Pro and not all data was migrated).  The new MacBook Air received all the right data and is working well.
I then purchased a Lion upgrade for my MacBook Pro and started the installation process.  The installation process seemed to be going fine, but the MacBook Pro eventually hung.  I let it "run" overnight hoping that it would finish the process, but the machine was still hanging a day later.  I forced the MacBook Pro to shut down using the power button.  Now, when I restart the MacBook Pro, I get the "Mac OS X Utilities" screen asking if I want to Restore from Time Machine Backup, Reinstall Mac OS X, Get Help Online, or Disk Utility.  Does this mean my data is not longer available on the MacBook Pro?  Also, I do/did have the MacBook Pro connected to a Time Machine and it had up-to-date backups at the time I ran Migration Assistant.  However, I noticed that after running Migration Assistant, the MacBook Pro was complaining that it was no longer connect to the Time Machine.
My instinct tells me that I should attempt to restore the MacBook Pro using the Time Machine backup, but I'm wondering if it might be able to revive the MacBook Pro without having to take that step.  Or, maybe I should select the "Reinstall Mac OS X" option first?  Any ideas?
If I need to use the Time Machine backup, do I need to do anything special given the post Migration Assistant behavior I described above?
    Thanks for any advice!

How can I fool Time Machine into using the original Backup Folder and just doing an incremental backup?
You can't. after using MA on it you have to start a new backup sequence. you can change computer name in Sharing preferences to anything you like but it won't affect TM backups.

  • Disable Yahoo Sync after iCloud migration

I am getting this pop up and it's driving me bonkers. I don't even use Yahoo sync, but I guess it was turned on when I had MobileMe. After the migration to iCloud, my MobileMe prefs have been disabled and it refers me to the iCloud prefs.
Does anyone know how to turn this off? I tried doing searched but only found solutions that required me to be able to access MobileMe preferences. So, that is a non-working solution after iCloud migration.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jen

Yes, this also driving me nuts. I gave in and said sync and it disappeared and never came back. Unfortunately, for some reason (possibly unrelated) my trial mobile me (I never paid for it), automatically appeared one day and took over 75% of all my contacts! I didn't know this and so I deleted the old mobile me account from address book which then deleted these contacts and then proceeded to wipe the rest of my devices!
I deleted all accounts off address book and reloaded a contacts back from a *.vcf file I had and presto everything back. As soon as I turned on iCloud sync again, so again did this flipping yahoo sync message appear again!
Is this because of old mobile me accounts even those that were just trials that are messing with apple cloud syncing? I have turned everything off and short of deleting my yahoo account I'm not sure what to try next!
