Compression settings for output to WEB

I have compressed my project about 6-7 times now, trying to get it to look like it does in Final Cut Pro HD nice and clean! I have played around with the bit rates. Of the 7 attempts, 2 came out pretty decent but I know I can get it cleaner than that. Is there a KEN STONE tutorial for using compressor for the WEB? I know there is one to burn a DVD of your footage. I just need some guidance on what to select for these presets and how I can get the best look possible,
thanks

  • Best settings for outputting for web

    Hello All!!
I'm hoping someone can help me out.... I'm outputting quicktimes to be uploaded to a web server so they can be embeded on a site for a show reel. What is the best compression setting for a quicktime that maintains it's image quality but loads fast? I've been using h.264 and limiting it to 700 and 800 kbps, im 4:1 audio, deinterlaced, 720x480.
the quicktimes range in length from 1min to 4min. I used Vimeo's setting and that looks the best, but takes too long to load on web server.
I've tried different rates for kbps as well as all the suggested pre-sets in Compressor, and my qt's are still coming out 'soft', and I'm not sure what else to try.
I'm on a MacBook Pro 10.6.7 with 2.6 ghz Intel Core Duo and 4gb of memory, FCP 7.03.
Thank you for all suggestions and help!!
    -K

You'll just want to play with it. One trick I like to use, if there's not a lot of panning going on in the audio, is to drop the audio to mono. Cuts the audio bandwidth in half, allowing more room for video to move.

  • Compression settings for H.264

Can anyone recommend some settings for making making H.264 video intended for delivery on the web at 640x380?
    Thanks.

    Heya Rick,
So I was looking at the H.264 settings in Compressor and it would seem as though the highest bitrate is 1500 kps so guess you can't do bit rate between 2000 and 2500 k/bits like another poster recommended by using Compressor for Apple Devices settings. Also there isn't much control over the audio of the h.264 file in Compressor whereas QT conversion from FCP allows you to select a mono audio file with a lower khz rate and render quality.
The difference between selecting stereo vs. mono will be the difference between 1/2 or twice the filesize for your audio file which will absolutely affect your total filesize but make little to no difference in your viewed file intended for web viewing. Take a look at a standalone Stereo track AAC 44.100 kHz 192 kbps that is 5 mins long and you're looking at about 5 MB file just for the audio!!! Cut that to mono and drop the frequency and bitrate and that 5 mb audio file will be about 1MB.
I have always used QT conversion from FCP and have only just now had the opportunity to look at the h.264 settings in Compressor and judging from initial impressions I would go with QT conversion from FCP.
For the video you mention I would just go with export using QT conversion from FCP. For video settings use automatic keyframes with an automatic datarate with quality set to Medium. Best quality multi-pass encode. For sound settings use Linear PCM Mono channel 32 khz rate and Faster Quality render setting. That should give you a nice, small file size that will look and sound good enough for sit down interview video between 3-5 mins. in length.
Also remember that the h.264 can be used with a Flash player instead of QT player so those without Quicktime can view the file without having to install the QT player. You can use something like the JW Player from http://LongTailvideo.com or simply change the extension of the compressed h.264 to .flv and use it with any Flash Player above 9.0

  • Best Compression Settings for Internet - jagged lines

    Hi all,
interested in seeing what people think the best compression settings are from FCE HD to Quicktime. I have a 2 minute video to compress which needs to go on the web. Attempts so far have resulted in jagged edges/lines on any footage which is moving. Locked off shots look great though. I'm trying to keep file size to under 10MB which shouldn't be a problem.
Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

  • Compression settings for G3 playback

Greetings, I'm using EyeTV export to convert recorded clips to QT movies. Although I'm working on a G4, the QT movies will be played on a G3 iMac. I have discoverd altready that the default compression settings create a movie that the G3 can't handle (it jumps frame by frame). It is suggested that I try other compression settings. I would like to, but I don't know anything about this subject.
For reference, The default settings for export to QT movie:
type MPEG 4 video (there are a lot of other options)
    frame rate 29.97 fps
compressor quality high (on a slider from least to best)
data rate automatic (it can be restricted to some kbits/sec instead)
Please can someone suggest which settings I might change and in which direction to achieve G3 playback. Video quality does not need to be great, I accept that there is a tradeoff.

Thanks. After some experimenting, I found that export as Quicktime movie as H 263 seems to play on the G3 with good video quality.

  • Compression settings for 4 hour video

I am trying to compress a 4 hour and 23 minute video but i can not find the settings to do this. The largest allowed time I have been able to achieve is 174 minutes. What settings should I use to make this DVD?
    Thanks for the help.

There are no settings for a 4 and a half hour video in Compressor. You will have to create one by drastically lowering the bitrate. Be aware that you will need to burn to a Dual Layer DVD. DVD-R's will typically only hold 2 hours of decently encoded video. Even with a Dual Layer DVD the bitrate (espically using Compressor) might be too low to get decent quality and still fit.

  • Trying to figure out compression settings for existing video to re-use

So, I had a 3 minute video that, at settings according to the "info" panel" for it is at 720x480, .264 compression setting, and small or big looks great-- I got the file to under 20 megs.
Now, after messing with NTSC settings and whatnot, I tried bringing it back to the original settings with a recut version of the same length, no extra bells and whistles in the video, and yet, I can't get it under 250 megs.
Is there a way to find out the specific settings for it beyond the simple file info window?
Also-- does key frames at a low setting (24-30) affect it greatly?
I just need to get it back to that little size without sacrificing sound or quality-- I did it once, i need to do it again.

    ...anyone?

  • Regarding the 'Dispatch time' settings for output type...

    Hi Experts,
May i know what 'Send with application own transaction' means when we configuring output type in SPRO for 'Dispatch time'.
Cause i knew if we set it as 'Send immediately', then this output type will be triggered upon saving the orders.
But i dont know what that item for..Could you kindly help me on this...
What it means if we set the dispatch time as 'Send with application own transaction' for delivery output..??
    Thank you very much.

    Hi,
If you choose 'Send with application own transaction'  when maintaining condition record for output type, during order, delivery and invoice saving the output type signal is yellow, that means unless you select that output and trigerred for printing it will not goto the spool.i.e in simple words the output is for manual printing.......
Let me know if you need any clarifications on this..
    Regards,
    Chandra

  • ...best compression settings for a 12minute dvd

...other than 90 minute preset... and would it yield a better video? And what are the best settings for large screen television? The video is standard definition but anamorphic 720x480. Thanks

You can raise the average bit rate to 6.8 and max bit rate to 8. I use this setting a lot. Below is the bit budget worksheet I use. Though it tops out at 7.8 for max bit rate, it's ok to go to 8 in Compressor.
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/bitbudget.html
As far as the large screen question, I believe you are stuck at 720 x 480 because that is what standard def allows.

  • Best volume/compression settings for AUDIO for Rock concert DVD ???

I am putting the finishing touches to a 2 hour rock concert DVD.....
    I am converting the wav/and 5.1 to Dolby 5.1 and 2.0 files ....
They are sounding really quiet compared to the original waves...???
I can see that there are some dolalogue/audio compression settings and something set to -21db.....
How can I make them louder...and if I do will it mess up playing on normal DVD's ....
I know there are some DOLBY compresor settings in mac DVD player that make the sound pump if switched on...
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated???

    Hi
You must change some settings in the standard Dolby presets to keep the original level and mix:
    - Dialog Normalization: -31
    - Compression preset: none
This way your AC3 files will keep the level and mix from your original files.
    Hope that helps !

  • Export compression settings for mov upload to web

When exporting from FCP for an .mov on the web, what should the compression setting be? I'd like to have a 320x240 QT mov with good quality that doesn't take forever to load. I've tried Sorrenson 3 settings, but a 20 second video clip is 38 mb. Please advise. Thanks.

In addition to what the good Captain has said already, may I also suggest dropping the frame rate to 15 or 12 frames.
Also, try using a Quality of Medium (or less) and see what kind of performance (or quality drop) you're getting.
Although it's fairly old at this point (because it was done prior to QT7), check out this KenStone.Net article for a good breakdown of the trade-offs that need to be made when exporting for the Web. Feel free to extrapolate for use with QT7...

  • Compression settings for iPods?

I have some native 640x480 .mov files that my client wants me to make available for download from their web site so that their clients can load them on their video capable iPods.
What are the best settings/format for me to use in Compressor?

Open the settings and put ipod into the search filed, you'll see the two presets ready to go.
    From the compressor manual:
H.264 Workflows for iPod and Apple TV
The efficiency and quality of H.264 creates a number of options for iPod and Apple TV
    video producers:
Â Compressor includes two video sizes specifically designed for playback on an iPod: iPod
320 (QVGA) and iPod 640 (VGA). Both sizes create output media files that are
compatible for playing on an iPod, and both will look good on the display of the iPod.
Â As long as you intend the output media files to be viewed on the iPod itself, you
can use the iPod 320 encoder size, which produces files that are about one half the
size of the iPod 640 encoder size.
Â If you expect the output media files to be played on larger displays, whether in
iTunes or on a monitor connected to an iPod, you should use the iPod 640 encoder
    size with its higher quality.
Â If you have assigned chapter markers to the video using the Preview window, iTunes
will automatically use the first marker as the poster frame. If you assigned an image
to any markers in Compressor, the first marker with an image becomes the poster
frame in iTunes. You can change the poster frame in iTunes if necessary. See the
iTunes help for more information. See “Adding Chapter or Podcast Markers to a Clip”
on page 300 for more information about adding chapter markers in Compressor.
Â The Apple TV HD encoder size produces video files that are about four times the size
of the iPod 640 encoder size. These are not compatible with iPod playback and may
not play smoothly on older Macintosh computers.

  • Best settings for creating a web mov. from a motion project

    Hi,
I have been trying to get a crisp image online, that doesn't take a age to load. I know it's possible as I have seen sites that seem to have their settings spot on.
I am using H264 codec, which greatly reduces the file size (although it's still about 4.5mb) and the once crisp looking motion project, now looks dull.
Can anyone help? I am very new to motion (and FCP). What codec should I set my sequence to before I import the motion project to FCP and then what settings should I use for compressor?
Your help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    You could also try Squeeze.
I've read that for highly compressed H.264 (doesn't matter for files that aren't), Squeeze has better quality. (would certainly like to hear other's experience - Squeeze seems a lot slower to compress from the review)
    Here's one review ( there's a more detailed review around somewhere )
