Compressor 2.0 blues

Hi,
Im just so frustrated - I recently installed Final Cut studio and now tried to output a little film on DVD and all I seem to get from compressor is pixels.
I`ve done another project a little while ago on Final Cut 4,0 and Compressor 1.0 and it looked just beautiful everybody was impressed with the quality which I could get with a mini DV Camera.
Now I get all this Pixel artifacts all over and the animation of the still images I have inserted is just a joke! I mean I can`t show this to anybody it´s just embarrassing
I`ve done the upgrade to 5.02 and I deleted the Final Cut 4.0 Preferences. I used the DVD Best Quality 90 Min 4:3 settings, my source material is 25frame Pal Material from a Panasonic AGDVX 100A
I n my opinion I shouldn`t even have to think about trying to work around and outputting quicktime files from Final Cut like discussed in other threads. O.k. I guess I will finally have to do it.
But I`m just frustrated and baffled how something like this could be released. I´ve never seen such a major bug on a software release on the mac since I started workin with it 12 years ago.
If there`s any hint what to do (other then the workaround described in other threads) Thanks a lot guys!
Werner

In the meantime, you might want to try a high bitrate one-pass CBR encoding.

  • Compressor - export to Blu-ray with more than 6 chapter Markers?

    Hi,
I'm interested in creating Blu-Ray discs.  I've played around taking a self contained 30 minute movie I created with FCPro 7 - it has several chapter markers put in while editing in  FCPro.
I took the SC movie and brought it into Compressor and burned directly to a DVD with the Chapter markers.  It worked perfectly.
2 questions, if anyone has done this . . . if I buy a Blu-Ray burner and firewire it into my MacBook Pro - can I burn the Blu-Ray exactly like I did the conventional DVD?  Except now it'll be High Definition?  I'm guessing in COmpressor, when I 'selected' the internal DVD burner - I guess I'll see the new external Blu-Ray one after I firewire it into the MacBook Pro?
My question is, will it then burn to the Blu-Ray exactly like it did to the internal conventional DVD burner, except be in HD now?
I just don't want to buy a Blu-Ray burner and have something nt work?  Thanks, if anyone can confirm this.
I also have Roxio Toast Titanium 11.  But keeping it all in Compressor seems easier - with limited screens.
Oh, I only get 6 chapter markers on a screen thru Compressor.  Any tricks as to how I can get more than 6?  I have like 30, and I'd rather not go thru 5 screens getting to the end!
Thanks very much if anyone has any experience in this area.
    Larry

Thank you, Shawn.  You're confirming everything I thought!
Just asking . . . perhaps you have a few thoughts here:
    - Is Compressor version 4 any "different" than 3.5 - as far as just dropping in a QT movie master to compress?
    - I guess there's no way to get more than 6 Chapter Markers in Compressor DVD?  I don't see a way, perhaps there is? Or . . . I have to learn toast!  But I can do that!  Just easier if Compressor would do it all!
    Thanks again

  • Compressor can burn Blu Ray?

This is a quote from Apple's web site:
"Blu-ray disc and DVD burning. You can now easily burn a Blu-ray disc or a DVD directly from Compressor. Quickly add a menu to your disc by choosing one of the beautiful Apple-designed HD or SD templates or, to achieve a specific look, import and use third-party or custom templates."

Don't expect too much from encore, it'll do more than toast but you'll need photoshop, and after effects and then wonder if whoever built encore ever worked in DVDSP, to see what intuitive means.
Encore will basically allow you to author a BluRay Disc similar to current DVD disks re menu control etc., but it will not do BDJ floating/pop up style menus. Look at Do Studio for that

  • Will Compressor record on Blu-ray from iMovie.

    Hi
I have a blu-ray recorder and want to know if I purches Compressor will it download to the Blu-ray recorder from iMovie?
    Ta

I you export an HD movie from iMovie and bring that into Compressor as a source file and if you have a Blu Ray burner and the correct media, then the answer is yes; you can create a Blu Ray disk directly from Compressor.

PS: I may have made an incorrect assumption that by recorder you meant burner. If I did misunderstand, tell us what model that equipment is.

  • General Overview on How to use Final Cut Studio to create a Blu-Ray DVD

I am a new user of Final Cut Studio and need an experienced user to give my a progression guide on how to create a Blu-Ray DVD of my recent Alaska Trip. Last month I spend 8 days in Alaska visiting Denali and Juneau primarily. During that time I took about 100 short video clips (HD 1080p) and 570+ still photos with my Canon 7D. I have experimented with some pieces of the software and have created a Blu-Ray disk using Final Cut Pro and Compressor. However my goal is to create this DVD with menus that will play short clips (some narrated) and still photos(also some narration). I did a short one in DVD Studio Pro this morning but need some general guidance on what progression and programs to use to create this project. I was not able to take my video from the Studio Pro Sequence I created for my 1st DVD I had to take the original clips which were processed using Apple ProRes 422 and copy them in one at a time and then find the audio (on the voice overs) I created and also place them into DVD Studio Pro one at a time. I obviously need some guidance on the proper progression.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Here's the situation...
DVD Studio Pro will not do the trick for you - it doesn't do blu-ray discs. If you want to do Blu-ray you've got to use either Final Cut Pro's "Export" command or Compressor's "Burn Blu-ray disc" template. The downside to both of these approaches is that you can't burn more than one title (or movie, etc.) using Final Cut Studio.
To do what you want to do, you need Toast (at least). Toast will auto-generate menus but will let you put more than one title per slide (so you can put multiple slideshows on the same disc).
If you want to do full-on customizing of menus and multi-level menus, for that you need Adobe's Encore.
My suggestion - Get Toast. Encore is close to $800.
Here's your progression (at least the one I use).
Edit in Final Cut Pro (ProRes 422 is fine, ProRes 422 LT would do the trick as well)
Export as QuickTime movies (original settings)
In Compressor using the H.264 for Blu-ray setting and Dolby Digital setting and create elementary streams for video (.264 file) and audio (.ac3). Make sure these files have identical names except for the extension.
Using toast, add the video file to the Toast project and it'll find the audio file.
    Burn away!

  • Compressed audio to Blu-ray quality sounds muffled

    Hello!
I am having difficulties keeping the audio quality of a HQ video, edited in Final Cut Pro, after compressing it with Compressor 4 to Blu-ray quality.
In Compressor 4 I used Dolby Digital Professional option for audio (ac-3) but after compressing, the audio sounds smothered/muffled in comparison to the original.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
I have tried many things, including making the sound level higher in FCP before sending in to Compressor and changing the audio settings in Compressor quite some times.
    Please help!

Try this: In the Inspector>Encoder pane>Audio, set Dialogue Normalization to -31 and in the Preprocessing pane, choose None for Compression Preset. Otherwise, experiment with different Compression Presets.
    Good luck.

  • FCP only shares to Blu-ray at 720p

I am trying to make a blu-ray disk of high school basketball using Final Cut Pro 10.1. the video is recorded with a Panasonic HDC-TM700 shooting 1080p at 60fps.  During editing FCP X shows both the resolution and the frame rate to be that of the imported clips.  However, when I choose the 'Share - Blu-Ray' option the resolution becomes 1280X720p.  I have not been able to find any way to change the settings in a preference pane.  I have tried this on a Hackintosh i7 running Snow Leopard and FCP 10.0.08 as well as a MBPro 15"Retina running FCP 10.1.  Any help?

I can't find a way to change settings either.  A work around is to export a Master file.  Then bring that into Compressor.  Apply Blu-ray settings there.  Highlight the blu-ray video file and in the inspector window change the settings to what you desire.

  • FCStudio 7 - Burning to Blu Ray problems

I edit with FCS 7 and trying to burn to Blu Ray, however i keep getting a message 'internal file error, Qmaster file not found'?? Should be simple as 'file' then 'share' but not happening!! Its recognising the blu ray burner but wont let me 'share'. Any one know what the settings have to be????

I remember one thing , if you use Share with a QuickCluster you will receive a message like Video file from QMaster cant be found.
This is a bug from day one with Final Cut Studio 3, so if you need fast compression for Blu-Ray and dont have Matrox Compress HD you must export a Self Contain QuickTime file and bring-it in Compressor with a Blu-Ray Template and Job Action to burn a Blu-Ray.
Be carefull about Matrox Compress HD since for now this card remove the Chapters Markers with the actual drivers but it is a real time option best used with Toast 10 to bring back Chapters Markers even if it is at specific fix intervals.

  • Blu ray problem v4.1.2 - WORKAROUND

Hi, since updating compressor to 4.1.2, I like may others have had problems trying to create a Blu ray image or burn to disc using the Create Blu ray setting. This is a real problem that affects many different people, we have 5 macs all different configs and every one exhibits the same problem. It is also NOT file related we have tested many files that have been used successfully before and they have failed.... BUT I have found a workaround that means I can now produce Blu ray again.
    1. Open up MPEG Files settings and duplicate MPEG-2 Program stream, 15 Mbps. This will appear in the custom settings menu.
    2. Re name the duplicated setting as MPEG-2 Blu ray (or something that works for you)
    3. Select the new setting and in the General settings on the right of compressor change the format to Elementary Stream and stream usage to Blu ray
    4. In the video settings change encoding mode to Single Pass VBR and choose Automatically select bit rate
    5. Now go back to the main settings pane on the left of Compressor, open up Audio formats and duplicate AC3 File, you don't need to change and settings here
That's it, apply to a job, tell compressor to create blu ray, either burn to disc or disc image, it works every time for me. I would prefer to have h264 but as a temporary workaround it means we can get Blu rays out again.
    Hope this helps

    Hi Russ
No worries, hope it helped. We are just a small video production outfit in the UK. We have several macs in the office, and Macbook Pro's which come with us on location. We do our updates exactly as anyone with one mac would do, run the update, check it works and then do the same on the other machines. I just missed the Blu ray issue this time!!! Ended up updating all macs before I realised.... schoolboy error!!
Anyway we've produced several more MPEG Blu ray discs today and everything is great, so I guess the issue lies with h264

  • How do I stop my Blu-Ray burner from "sleeping" or going offline?

I recently installed a PIONEER BD-RW BDR-206 Blu-Ray burner in my Mac Pro.  After about an hour or so it apparently goes to sleep or does something where the computer does not recognize it anymore.  And I can't do anything to bring it back other than restart the computer.
This poses a significant problem when I use Compressor to burn Blu-Ray discs because Compressor might take 10 hours to process, then when it's done I lose everything because it can't burn the disc because the computer doesn't see the blu-ray burner anymore.
The only way I've found to get around this is to eject and then close the burner every hour or so.  That's a good band aid, but not acceptable.  Especially when I set to burn overnight or I leave the office for the day.
I've gone through System Settings and do not see anything pertaining to this, but I'd be happy to admit if I've overlooked something to fix this issue!
    Please offer any feedback,
    Thank you.
    Eric P

Thanks Dennis.   I believe I did try that option to no avail.  After talking with the techs where I got it (MacSales or MacWorld... don't remember off hand now) they said that that particular burner was known for this issue with Macs.  They work with Macs, but they have that problem of going offline even if all computer settings say to stay active.  I ultimately purchased a different brand burner and now it works no problem.
I also bought a casing for the old Pioneer so that I could still use it.
    Thanks,
    Eric

  • Exporting to Blu ray settings

    Hello,
After struggling with different framerates ( this is solved ) I got a new problem now.
The original footage what I work with is 30 frames ( mediainfo a tiny great program that gives you all information about a file )
I create a new event and/or new project and select in the video properties custom settings 30 frames.
When I export the clip as a master file or vimeo or Apple device it all export as a 30 frame file or movie.
BUT when I export ( share and compressor ) as a blu ray everytime whatever I do it creates a 25 frame blu ray. It has to be 30 frames.
I have been looking in the settings but ther is not much to  choose. Only when I make and import a new project there I can fill in what framerate.
What am i doing wrong. Please tell me I am busy with this for almost 3 hours and can not find out.
The screen below are my settings.
    Thank's
    Richard

I just made a test with a 24 frames footage actually 23.976 or something like that. That worked fine.
The 30 frame footage does not work unfortunatly.
Most probably indeed it is not supported.
The 30 frames from the 5dmark2 footage according to this program media info is 30 frames not 29.976.
funny thing is the last firmware update of the camera the 30 frames is not there anymore. only 24 and 25 frames.
    Who is there to blame.
Now I am stuck with a lot of 30 frame movies wich Final cut does not support.
I hope there will be a update from Apple to support this because there are a lot of people with these footages.
    thank's
    Richard

  • Compressor, FCP 7 and Snow = SLOW

Well, I am enjoying Final Cut 7, and I love the quickness of Leopard Snow. However, I am having major “beach ball” problems that I did not have when I used Leopard and Final Cut 6. I edit a few National daily and weekly TV programs, so I have a heavy workload. Now, when I am using the Compressor to create Blu-Ray files and web editions of the episodes, Final Cut Studio 7 is slowed down to a crawl. When I insert a clip or some music to my timeline and then try to play it, I get a beach ball for 15-20 seconds. After it finally plays, I click on the time line to begin an edit, and again - 15-20 seconds of a beach ball . . . you can see that this becomes annoying quickly and greatly disrupts my work flow.
Now, if I do not run compressor, then FCP7 works like a dream. I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to configure the features of Grand Central Station in Leopard Snow or to change hyper-threading in FCP? In my activity monitor, I see that when I have FCP open, I am still running 34 threads on something called CompressorJobController and FCP 7 runs about 46 threads. When I am using Compressor, the activity monitor reads about 40% CPU usage and 50 threads. I really need to multitask to get my work completed. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    d Starr

What Brian Gary is saying, "Was FCS already on you computer (OSX 6) and you just did an upgrade to FCS 3 from FCS 2."
What you really need to do (I think others will agree) is to do a clean install of you OS (not an archive and re-install). And then do all the updates to the OS, and repair permissions. Then do an install of FCS, with updates and repair permissions. With this proceeder everything should work. And if you have third party program install those too.
If you have an extra hard clone this over to the new hard drive as a bootable drive. And in three or six months clone this back over to your Hard Drive and you have a fresh copy of the OS and FCS to work from again. I do this every three months or so...it only takes an hour or so to clone over a fresh copy.
SuperDuper is free and will clone your hard drive.

Jerry Hofmann a few weeks back posted an excellent thread on how to (step by step) install FCS. I don't have the URL. hopefully someone can post that URL.

  • Remove closed captions from H.264 file after converting?

I processed a video file in Compressor using the Blu-Ray settings, and included a reference to a closed captions file. I now need to use the file in another application (Adobe Encore), but the closed captions appear to be hard coded in.
Is that correct? Is there anyway to remove closed captions from a H.264 file after it has been converted with Compressor?
Please help   This is for a film festival, and I may not have time to process the video in Compressor again without the closed captions.
    Message was edited by: nicholas.he
Fixed question spelling from 'form' to 'from'.

    From the user manual:
"QuickTime files: Compressor adds the closed caption file as a closed caption track to the QuickTime output file."
The closed caption "track" can be turned on and off.  It is not burned into the screen, as is the CC standard.  Encore should handle the file just fine.  You should be able to tell the DVD to have Closed Captioning turned off by default.  That's all it takes.
Sub-Titles may be burned in to the screen.  If you did sub-titles, yes, you'll have to re-encoded from scratch without them.  When doing sub-titles in an DVD authoring program, you have the ability to enable and disable them, but in Compressor, they're burned in.

  • Not playing back in DVD player

    Hello all,
I made a DVD in DVD Studio Pro, and it played back perfectly in the DVD player on my mac. Then I went to play it in 2 other DVD players, and it wouldn't recognize the media. I also couldn't play it on a PC player. I have no idea why. Any input is greatly appreciated.

You can find your files by looking at it's rendering list. There will be a little magnifying glass next to the file name, click on it and the browser will open revealing the file for you.
Actually DVD SP makes fine HD DVDs, you just can't play them much of anywhere. Compressor will make Blu-Ray DVDs in a couple of different ways, some of which are very limited but will work. You can get more extensive menuing by creating the Blu-Ray media in Compressor and using Encore, if you have it, to author the disc. But these methods are not as comprehensive as many of the other applications out there for BR authoring.

  • Why can't I change my subtitles' appearance in DVD Studio Pro?

    Hello there.
So, I'm pretty confused. I created an .stl closed caption file in MovieCaptioner which I then imported into DVD Studio Pro. Understandibly (if not, annoyingly), I lost my original subtitle formatting, including font size, color, font, and the black bar I had originally positioned the text over to make it easier to read.
I'm not trying to change the captions within DVD Studio Pro but whenever I select all (or even just select one individual caption) the option to change the coordinates, etc, is greyed out and I can't select anything. And when I hit command + T and change the font, it doesn't do anything to the overall stream. I just want to make the subtitles larger and add a black bar behind them. Not sure what I'm doing wrong..
    Thanks in advance!

DVD Studio Pro is only capable of authoring HD DVD, which is an obsolete format, or SD DVD. Unfortunately, it cannot do Blu Ray.
If you want HD, you can make a basic Blu Ray directly from FCPX, or from Compressor, using a Blu Ray burner. If your movie is less than 35 minutes long, you could alternatively make am AVCHD red laser disk, using the Blu Ray template with a DVD optical drive selected as Output Device. (AVCHD disks are HD resolution, but are encoded with somewhat less quality than Blu Ray; nonetheless, they look very good.)
The other HD options for disk delivery rely on third party solutions - including Roxio Toast and Adobe Encore.
    Good luck.
