Compressor 2 compression issues

I just bought the studio. Everything works well, except compressor 2. When it comes to encoding, it seems to have a problem with transitions, particularly if I use slow motion and several filters. The transitions always looks digitized. I have used a number of the presets and even created custom presets.
I re-log and captured the footage on another computer still using FC 4.5, DVD Studio 3, and Compressor 1.2. That always seems to work, but these steps just add to a workflow that is already at the breaking point. I want to continue using FC5 and all of the other programs it comes with, but will have to, for the first time, walk away from an Apple product less than enthusiastic, particularly if my projects hinge on quality compressions for DVD burning.
Oh, yeah. I am using Dual 2gig G5 and shoot normally in SD MiniDV. Sometimes 16:9 aspect ration, but usually 4:3.

Dear Stephan,
I had the same exact problem while using FCP 4.5, DVD studio 3. The problem only exists during dissolves, especially between two photos. I talked to several Mac specialists (fcp certified, and dvd studio pro certified) who suggested putting in a compression marker for every dissolves, and instead of using Quicktime Compressor, use COMPRESSOR, and then in the drop down window 60 HIGH QUALITY compression, set your targets and GOOD LUCK. I tried it, retried it, and it seems to be working. I don't notice as much lost pixels between dissolves. It adds more work to put in so many markers. So far it's working. There's a bug in FCP I think and I hope Apple will work it out soon. In the meantime, good luck and thank you for airing your problem b/c I thought I was the only one.
Best,
k chen

  • GZIP Compression Issue in Weblogic 8.1

Has anyone experienced issues with gzip compression filtering in 8.1?
After about 2 months of dev. and testing with the filter, a bug has been found
in our portal, and I have traced it back to the filter that I downloaded from
    dev2dev code and utilities.
It is strange. The only time I see an issue is when a user clicks the "back button"
in the browser itself to go back to a previous page, AND then clicks a link (for
example) in a portlet that is tied to an action in a jpf for that portlet. The
error only happens for actions in a portlet that are local to that portlet (no
forwarding to other portlets or anything fancy)...just pure "local internal forwards."
If you do this, USING THE BACK BUTTON to get back to this page with the portlet,
when you click the action, you are actually taken to the page where you were when
    you clicked the back button.
I have re-created this is simple portals that have no content, so I know it is
    not something else I introduced.
Any ideas? Maybe it is the filter-mapping pattern I am using??? I am currently
mapping on *.portal, but this is the only situation that seems to break.

For those interested, I have some updates on this subject and someone out there sent me a mail asking if I ever found anything out.
Basically, when I encountered this issue the first time, I was working on a SP2 Portal. We were having numerous small bugs like this one with SP2 that centered around the back button or refresh button. BEA gave us a "super patch" back in July or so that when applied to our SP2 project, fixed our issue. I have sense moved onto SP3, and I did not see the compression issue (so I think SP3 must have the patches correctly setup...like I would assume it would).

  • Gzip compression issues from using a proxy?

Hello I am unable to load some websites now from suspected gzip compression issues? I have been using a proxy and now my firefox browser is messed up Plz Help [email protected]
    Thanks

It is possible to autenticate to a proxy server, but the question is what tye of authentication your proxy is carrying out . "Basic" or "digest".If it is Basic then you can use Base64 authentication scheme. You have to first set the System property variable to find proxy server (like port and IP Address)

  • Compressor "unknown time issue"

Ive been reading a few posts and this software seems to have a lot of timing issues. I have one of my own. Lately Ive noticed compressor has been getting really slow and sometimes wont work at all, saying "remaining time unknown". Is this a popular issue? I now need to use a different machine to compress my final cut movies. What might the problem be?
Im on a MacBook Pro intel 2 core duo and never had problems until recently.

I there. I'm having the same problem but there are no files in my '/var/spool/Qmaster' folder. It just sits there, not processing a thing displaying this message. I've cleared the 'Background processes' and ditched the prefs for compressor - well I think i have anyway. 'com.compressor.Compressor' file - right?. Just seems like the instruction to process isn't reaching the motherboard.
Please help. I have a dvd to burn and it's looking like I'm going to have to farm it out.
    Thx in advance.

  • MPEG-2 Compression issue!!

I’m getting a very a annoying issue when using compressor.
I have a 04:80 second apple pro res export form final cut, which I am then importing into compressor and applying the SD DVD: best quality 90 mins template so I can burn to a DVD.
The compression goes through successfully, however when I play the mpeg file through quicktime it takes about 10 seconds to play and says the duration is 2 hours long. The video IS there in the first 5 minutes but it keeps going with a black screen for 2 hours. If I try to burn this to disc any other video before it plays fine but when the track with this file comes it does nothing and restarts.
I’m using the default DVD settings in compressor and have tried high bit rate and lower but still does the same issue. The apple pro res file seems to have nothing wrong with it. Also, if I cut a fragment of the video and export using FCP and compress that it seems to work fine with the correct duration.
Not sure what the problem is, any help asap would be great?

There may be a clip or two somewhere down the Timeline that you're not aware of.  In FCP, with the Timeline window active, set an IN and OUT point for the part you want to export ... then export.   If that doesn't work, try exporting a self-contained movie (File->Export->QuickTime Movie) and see if that plays OK in QuickTime Player 7.  If it does, use that file in Compressor.

  • Compressor 3: Compressing to M2V for a DVD creates a shaky look to my entire video.

This is a Compressor 3 issue I'm trying to compress a M2V for a DVD but it keeps creating a shaky look to my entire video. I have done this multiple times, but what is new to this FCP project is text zooming in, Canon 7D footage, and light rays layered on top of my video and text. I have looked up this issue on creative cow with no luck. I've tried single pass and double pass, still leaves me with shaky footage. I need this project to be done for a client and I can't explain why it isn't working.

Do this in two passes.  First resize your video from HD to SD.  Then import your SD into compressor.  All DVD footage is 720x480 for NTSC and 720x576 for PAL.  You want to create anamorphic SD video to handle the widescreen.  One of the easiest ways to debug your DVDs is to rip them back before burning them to disk.  In DVD Studio Pro use the format option instead of burn.  This will create a VIDEO_TS folder on your hard drive which you can then read using software.  Rip the video back from the DVD with DVDxDV or another professional DVD ripper that can output video in Quicktime ProRes.  Import your video into Final Cut Pro, and play it back.  When you get the encoding right, go ahead and burn the DVD in DVD SP.

  • Compressor 3.5 issues.

I got Compressor as part of Logic Studio and I have two huge issues:
    1) Whenever I open Compressor I am asked for the serial number despite the fact I have already submitted it.
    2) The submit button in the submit window is greyed out. - this one might just be my incompetence but help would be appreciated.
    Thanks for any help,
    Josh

    Thanks for the suggestions.
Yes, I have FCP X on the new machine and have tried removing it and it's made no difference unfortunately.
Should've mentioned I used the Remover app to do all the reinstalls in my initial post
I think I've worked out where the issue is though.  Compressor won't find 'This Computer' as a cluster option.  If I try to manually add it using my IP it just searches and searches to no avail.  So I think therein lies the problem, just have to find a way to solve it still!
    Cheers

  • Compressor wont compress

everything was going fine until yesterday...
when i export files from FCP to compressor, i can input the settings, submit etc.
but nothing happens, usually i get the swirly balls of death. It makes FCP "not respond" until i quit compressor.
ive rebooted, i looked for preferences to trash or anything but could find nothing. i am working on time sensitive projects and feel like i could be in big trouble...any help would be greatly appreciated...

Have you tried resetting background processing?
    http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/19589/Reset%20Background%20Processing.png
Have you installed any updates since yesterday?
What formats are your sources and what are you compressing to?
Are you submitting your batch to a cluster or just locally?

  • Compressor & Magic Bullet issue

I might actually break down into tears if someone can figure this one out. I have looked all over the web tryin to find someone with the same issue. I have used Magic Bullet Looks through FCP and compressor for a couple years now with no issues. I am using Compressor 3.5 which I dont even remember upgrading to but notice the new options (ex. export for iphone/dvd etc).
My issue is when I export my edit to compressor the final quicktime file doesnt have any of my Magic bullet affects, just the std footage. When I export as a quicktime movie and do not use compressor the affects are there fine.
Anyone out there have any idea what I can be missing? I havent changed my procedure from what ive done from numerous edits.
    Thanks

  • Compressor not compressing 3.0.5

I've recently run into compressor issue (could be due to the last time I did a software update). I've looked through a ton of posts and they don't work even a reinstall doesn't resolve the problem.
I open compressor 3.0.5 drag my .mov file to compressor select any present, click submit, open batch monitor and all it says is processing, unknown time remaining and just sits there doing nothing.
Compressor works on my laptop (PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz mac osx 10.5.8) but not on my Imac.
Any suggestions why it is not processing anything?

3.5 may work, but the preference panel doesn't - which makes the setting up of clusters a real PIA - need to learn terminal setups.
My recommendation is if you want to run compressor on 10.10, spend the few bucks to run C4.

  • Weird compression issues

I have been trying to compress some animation material for DVD. It is mostly flat colors with black outlines. The past few weeks I've been having trouble exporting to compressor via Final Cut (the connect to background process bug) and so I have been using reference movies loaded into Compressor standalone.
I am seeing weird behavior, though. When I compress the reference movie, the frames look fine although every now and then there are artifacts, pieces of the image that break down. I think of them as compression errors, and I suspected that the compression markers at the beginning of each clip were not being exported in the reference movie.
So I tried a few things and finally got Final Cut to connect to compressor directly. This worked in that the compression errors I was seeing are gone--HOWEVER, the overall quality of the encode has decreased markedly! The black lines around shapes are all jagged, and the whole image looks inferior to the one compressed in Compressor standalone.
The thing is, both of these were compressed using the exact same preset! Does anyone know what the deal is? I would like to get the image quality from the standalone Compressor encode, but without the artifacts.
    Thanks for any advice,
    Bob

    Hi Thomas
That's VoiceOver. You can turn it off through System Preferences - Universal Access - VoiceOver. For some reason, the keyboard shortcut (command-F5) is susceptible to accidental activation.

  • Compression issues

I have been taking my high def material and then compressing to more reasonable sizes..BUT am stuck at a 50 percent success rate. I try to reduce the size of my movie to basically a widescreen 320-180 and some times it works and other times it doesnt. When it doesn;t succeed, waht happens is, when I play back..it starts for about five seconds and then playbakc video freezes but audio continues.....frustrating. ANy suggestions? Thanks

Would it help if you went straight from Final Cut to Compressor (right click on the sequence clip in the browser and choose export to Compressor)

  • Cube compression issue

    Hello Gurus,
we have some strange behaviours with cube compression.
All requests are compressed, but in F table we still have some records.
The same records are stored in E table too, but with BEx query execution we can see correct result.
If we execute query in debug on RSRT, with SQL code display, the query reads only from F table or aggregates.
    How it is possible?
We just provide to insert the COMPNOMERGE object in RSADMIN table, but only after the first compression. Do you think thath with a initialization of cube and a new compression with COMPNOMERGE object could solve our problem?
    Could you help us?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards.

    >
Well, but that's the whole point - the request ID!
That's why we do compression for at all - to merge together the data for the same key figures if they exist in both tables.
It's completely normal to have this situation.
    > I - If we execute query in debug on RSRT, with SQL code display, the query reads only from F table or aggregates. How it is possible?
    > You - Easy - you're statement about all requests being compressed is not true and/or it reads the necessary data from the aggregates.
    >

Well, obviously there was some other implicit restriction that lead to the selections made by OLAP.
Maybe the request read from the F-Facttable was neither rolled up nor compressed.
    > Very helpful, thanks.
    > Any others suggestions?
I'd check exactly the status of the requests and where they can be read from.
You may also try out to disable the aggregate usage in RSRT to see whether or not the data is also read from the E-facttable and check the result of the query.

  • Bizarre Sound Distortion on Export - Not Newbie Compression issue

I'm trying out the Flash CS3 demo - OSX. (Using OSX 10.4.10.)
I've got a slightly complicated timeline with about 8 layers
and some things alpha fading in and out, and a bunch of sound
samples being used as timeline sound effects (forget the term, but
attached to frames not streaming). No scripting.
The sounds are mostly too long for the amount of time
allotted to them in the timeline, and cut previous sounds off. I'm
speculating this might be a possible issue. That is, I have say a 5
second sound, which has only 3 seconds of time to play, before
another sound interrupts it in the same timeline layer.
There are two separate layers of sound playing at the same
    time.
All the original sounds are imported into the movie as
44.1/16bit AIFFs. They are mono files (might be another possible
    issue).
I'm trying to export with quality of 128k MP3. I've been
    trying different variations:
    - setting the compression for the audio files in the
Library/setting movie export settings to use Library settings
    - setting audio files in the Library to use "default
compression", and specifying the correct 128k MP3 setting in the
    export settings
    - or both of these (set individually in library, then
    overridden in export settings).
I've tried with and without the "use mono" setting (both in
Library files and export settings). (This is a question for me:
what should be the correct setting for that when the original file
    already is mono?)
Sometimes everything's great. I test or export the movie and
    the sound is fine.
Other times I test or export the movie -- with exactly the
same audio settings as the last time when it worked -- and now get
unbearably hideous hissing/cracking instead of the correct sound.
Most dangerously -- I think but haven't quite convinced
myself -- the same flash export file may sometimes play fine, and
sometimes play with the distortion. So I'm not sure if this is an
export issue, Flash player issue, or combination of export doing
something semi-weird that the player only sometimes chokes on. A
"bad" export is distorted both in the desktop Flash player that
comes with the Flash demo, and in a browser with Flash plugin 9 r45
    (OSX).
    GUH!
And this is the $800 product which is little more than a
basic text editor for scripting and an animation timeline that
hasn't gotten updated functionality since 1999.

This is a peer-to-peer public forum - if you demand
individual and undivided attention to your issue
then you can use the official adobe tech support.
As for your issue...let's go step by step:
[*The sounds are mostly too long for the amount of time
    allotted to them in the
timeline, and cut previous sounds off. I'm speculating this
    might be a possible
issue. That is, I have say a 5 second sound, which has only 3
    seconds of time
to play, before another sound interrupts it in the same
    timeline layer.*]
Is this intended? You are having an issue with 5 second
sounds being cut off after 3 seconds...why
not place them on different layers to avoid this? I don't
    understand the workflow here.
[*There are two separate layers of sound playing at the same
    time.*]
Ok - that makes more sense, so you have 2 layers both
containing sounds that cut each other off?
[*All the original sounds are imported into the movie as
    44.1/16bit AIFFs. They
are mono files (might be another possible issue).*]
Mono shouldn't matter - but the quality of the original will
matter - specifically the levels, if
the overall level is originally too high (or "hot"), then
clipping will occur once compressed from
    Flash (in some cases).
[Sometimes everything's great. I test or export the movie
    and the sound is fine.]
    Can you provide the FLA?
[Other times I test or export the movie -- with exactly the
    same audio settings
as the last time when it worked -- and now get unbearably
    hideous
hissing/cracking instead of the correct sound.]
Never heard of this before - need to see the FLA.
[And this is the $800 product which is little more than a
    basic text editor for
scripting and an animation timeline that hasn't gotten
    updated functionality
    since 1999.]
You may take exception to this but it sounds very much like
user error or something beyond Flash
(like an issue with the source audio files). Your opinion is
subjective but AS3, Flash, Flex is
hardly "little more than a text editor". True the timeline
hasn't changed much over the years but
funny that it is still the king when it comes to animation
across so many mediums - why fix what
ain't broken and works so very well for so many worldwide?

  • Audio compression issues in iBooks Author

Hi - I am having quality issues with audio compression. I have a voice only file. It is fine in the original recording. I have saved to aiff and m4a and dropped both into iBooks widget. The widget "optimizes" it and the resulting sound is full of echo and sounds like repeats of first and last consonants of words. I even thought that my stereo channels might be out of sync, so mixed down to mono. Same sound problems in iBooks.

Found the root of the problem and a fix
    1. Your audio file is at 48hz
    2. Convert to 44.1 hz in Logic or any other Digital Audio Workstations
    3. Export to a labeled folder with settings  AIFF or Wave 16bit
    4. From the folder drag and drop audio files in iBooks Author
IBook Author auto 'opitimizing' can handle that with no glitches or dropouts
