Compressor 2 Quicktime to iPod Sizing Problem

Hello,
As a podcaster, I have to convert regular quicktime files into iPod-compatible m4v format all the time. Usually I use Quicktime Pro to do this - its simple and I havent had any problems with it. But I'm looking for ways to reduce my file sizes, so I was looking into using Compressor for this.
I used the new H.264 iPod video setting, but got an unsatifactory result that mystifies me:
720x480 quicktime file, when converted via Quicktime Pro's iPod conversion, becomes 320x213 and looks fine.
The same file, when run through Compressor's iPod setting, goes to 320x240, BUT it looks stretched vertically.
Any ideas why this might be happening?
Thanks,
Simon

Actually, 320x240 is the correct aspect ratio for playback on a computer display. NTSC TV is a 4:3 aspect ratio so the correct viewing format for your 720x480 clip is actually 640x480 (note that the latter is a 4:3 ratio). This confusion results from the fact that NTSC TV displays use rectangular pixels while computer display pixels are usually square. Thus, in order to get the correct aspect ratio during playback on a computer's square pixels you need to set the video to 640x480 or 320x240. However, if you plan on viewing the output on a NTSC TV then either 720x480 or 320x213 are acceptable since both of those will result in a 4:3 viewing ratio during full screen playback on the TV (the conversion happens "auto-magically" -- in effect -- since a standard definition TV has a 4:3 aspect ratio).
Note further that the iPod video display is 320x240 (also 4:3) so I'd suspect that the best quality playback on the iPod would be obtained with a similar sized movie.

  • Ipod syncing problems...?

Im having several ipod syncing problems. I have an Ipod touch, 4th gen with the standard USB cable that comes with to charge it and sync it with. Today, i plugged it into my computer like normal to sync some new songs onto it from itunes. But, it started acting up. First, it kept syncing on and off, and the sync sound wouldnt stop- it wouldnt stay synced. then, later, when it finally did, not long after it said "this device does not support charging," and itunes didnt recognize my ipod anymore, so i couldnt sync my songs. is there any way i can fix this? thanks in advance.

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • [iPod 5G] Problems with Windows' iTunes keeping it synced.

I've been struggling to get my iPod 5G working on my windows computer. This is what happens EVERY time:
    - I connect my iPod, it gives me "Cannot read the content of the iPod XXX...."
    - I Restore my iPod (have also formatted it completely several times).
    - the iPod shows up in iTunes and it syncs.
    - I take the iPod out and i reconnect and it starts all over again and i get: "Cannot read the content of the iPod..."
Connecting the iPod to my MacBook will make it appear in iTunes and I'll be able to see the music and update it.
Things i've tried (in semi-random order, except for the last one):
    - Updated the iPod (1.2.1)
    - Restored the iPod about 10x
    - Different USB port and different iPod connection cable
    - Erased the iPod (3x): using Windows' format tool 1x and the Disk Utility in OS X 2x.
    - Uninstalled iTunes, Reinstalled.
    - Fresh install of Windows XP.
Could this be an iPod related problem? (it seems to work fine on my Mac)
Could this be an iTunes 7 related problem?
The iPod is brand-new, i got it after my old one had gotten a white screen that wouldn't go away. Could it be a faulty iPod they gave me?
P.S. Please don't suggest to 'just sync it with your mac' because it should work with the Windows computer that holds all my music.

    hi chris
    the difference is:
at home i've started it and it has been running 12 hrs without touching it
outside i've used it while running through the park five times, so i started and stopped it five times without touching it otherwise (didn't change songs)
do these five times starting/stopping waste 8,5 hrs battery runtime?

  • Q10 Screen Sizing Problem in Blackberry 10.3

Has anyone else noticed that there seems to be a screen sizing problem in Blackberry 10.3.
When you wake the screeen with a gesture or pull the handset from the Q10 pocket, the screen that it "wakes" up to is enlarged, requiring the user to use the finger gestures to shrink it down to regular size.
Or have I just not mastered 10.3 yet?

    Hi Folks,
    I've sussed this one out!
It is not a problem with the screen resolution or the software update, I had within the accessibility settings the "Magnify Mode" enabled.
Disable this and the screen behaves perfectly..........
    False Alarm. Sorry!

  • 5g Ipod.  Problem with Firmware 1.2.1

Like many out there, I upgraded my iTunes software to ver. 7 and subsequently the iPod firmware to ver. 1.2.1. This resulted in the iPod "freezing" problem many others have reported. I've gone through the exercise (twice) of uninstalling iTunes 7, installing the version of iTunes on my installation disk (I believe it's earlier than 6.0.5) and then installing firmware provided in Updater 2006-6-28 (1.1.2). Problem is that iTunes doesn't recognize anything in my music or video library and the only way (so far) to solve this is to upgrade back to Itunes 7.0.2 but not to upgrade to firmware 1.2.1. My iPod now works but when I sync to iTunes, many of the videos (TV shows) I've purchased won't transfer to my iPod. The reason given is that my iPod software is too old. This has also occured with any new video purchase.
Has anyone experienced something similar and is there a solution to this problem.

I am having this problem as well. It was irritating me so bad that i just reverted to 1.0 since i don't have any other version availible because itunes doesn't save the updates. I tried all of the 5"R"s and it still locked up as soon as i booted my iPod up.

  • Lose sound when exporting MPEG with QuickTime to iPod format

I paid the $30 to be upgrade to QuickTime Pro in the hopes that I would be able to export MPEGs from my digital camera for viewing in iPods. The video comes out fine but there is no sound. Any suggestions regarding how to get the sound to export too?

    Thanks; the discussion is helpful.
When I downloaded the MPEG Streamclip software from http://www.squared5.com/; the conversion process was agonizingly slow. As an example, a single 6 minute Quicktime movie took hours to convert. After it was converted, then it not was recognizable by iTunes. So, MPEG Streamclip has not worked for me.
This seems like such a straightforward process that Apple would support. Basically, you can create iPhoto albums that synchronize with iPods; however you CAN NOT create Slideshows that synchronize with iPods. This is so frustrating since the slideshows have much more functionality and presumably would be what most people would find most useful. The process to get a slideshow to the iPod requires you to go through Quicktime and then Quicktime to ipod; this process only occassionally seems to work.
Anyway, Quicktime Pro, the $30 application, seems to sometimes work and sometimes not work for conversion of Quicktime files to iPods. I tried using non AAC protected audio files for the iPhoto slideshow sound and the conversion from Quicktime to iPod worked. In other cases, the conversion from Quicktime Pro to iPod did not work. I am at a loss to explain consistently what is happening when you use Quicktime to export to the iPod. When I open the Quicktime movie file the option to Export to iPod is grayed out. However, when I open the Quicktime application the option is black and available.

  • Ipod-a problem machine?

    Hello everbody,
i´m a new 4gb nano user. After reading some posts here, i have a doubt...correct me if i´m wrong...but are ipods a problem machine? because all i can read is problems problems problems.
    thanks a lot

No, they are not. You have to put it into perspective.
    1. Nobody in here is sayingg "yeah, I love my iPod". They come here for technical help when they have a problem.
    2. Most of the questions asked in here are solved.
    3. Consider how many iPods there are in the world (upwards of 60 million). Then consider how many questions there are in these forums. Then take into account the fact that many of these questions are not related to the iPod, or that many are looking for advice on whether or not to buy an iPod, which model, etc.
I have had 5 iPods in my house, and only once did I have any sort of problem (due to a faulty iPod hardware piece, but Apple sent me a replacement in less than 2 weeks).

  • Ford Voice Control & iPod playlist problems

Ford Voice Control & iPod playlist problems
I am having problems with the voice control system and my video ipod (5th gen) in a new Ford Focus Coupè-Convertible which also has Bluetooth phone conectivity ( works great with my iPhone 3G) as well as USB & Voice Control
This is all done through a Sony audio unit (model Sony 6CD DAB) which has a Six disc CD changer built in, as well as the usual FM & AM Radio bands as well as DAB Radio.
My problem relates to the voice control of my ipod and playlists.
Now some commands work just great For example if I say the following sequence ( which the unit repeats back to me at each stage) it works great:
    "External Device"
    "iPod"
    "Play"
All works well as it starts playing whatever playlist the iPod was in prior to connection to the unit, or if no playlist had been selected it just plays the whole contents of the iPod. - It also works fine with the commands "Shuffle" or "Repeat".
But according to the user manual I am supposed to be able to play or select a specific playlist by voice command using the following syntax as quoted from the manual:
'...create playlists named with the structure "Ford<*>" where <*> is a number 1-10. For example "Ford7" without any spaces between "Ford" and the number.
So I made several playlist called
    Ford1
    Ford2
    Ford3
and so on up to Ford10.
Now according to the voice commands list I should say the following phrases which like before, are repeated back to me by the system:
    "External Device"
    "iPod"
    "Playlist"
    Then the unit responds with
    "Playlist Number Please"
Then according to the manual I should say the following:
    But when I say either
    'Ford1'
    Or
    '1'
Or any right up to 'Ford10' / '10'
It responds bystating that playlist number (X) not available.
I have also tried with the quotation marks ("") around the name eg "Ford1", but that has not worked either.
So I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this problem and knew a solution, or could tell me where I am going wrong.
Although my car is a UK model, I believe that this voice control system is available with Sony units in American cars as well.
Hope you can help as this is driving me nuts!
    Thanks

    Hi Drusus.
I also have a European Ford (Focus ST - 2009) with the same problem.
Have you found any solution to the problem, or know if its possible to contact Ford...?
    Cheers.
    \Christian.

  • Having Windows & iPods detection problems?

Try Microsoft article below - has to do with iPod detection problem. Try This...
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925196

Sounds like there may be a problem with your install ..
    perhaps you have two
different play version on your PC (eg you've installed a
    newer version, but
old one didn't fully uninstall itself).
One possible solution (if that is the case) is to run the
    uninstall utility
from Adobe, then search your harddrive for any files matching
    *flash*.ocx ..
and if they are actually flash players (look at properties
    version info tab
to ensure they are macromedia/adobe flash player ocx's -
    don't want to kill
something to do with flash memory (say)) then delete them.
    Also kill off
the c:\windows\system\macromed\flash folder .. so then you
    have no flash
player ocx left. Then go to the Adobe web site and
    re-download/install the
latest Flash Player. NOTE: if you do this, be very careful
    you only delete
things that can safely be deleted without causing problems
    elsewhere.

back up the device in icloud and restore it back to factory settings after doing so setup as new and see if the issue is still there. If it's not merge your icloud info back into your device by just loging in with your apple id after the the setup is complete.

  • Audio Problem on Quicktime Pro/Ipod Classic

I just downloaded Quicktime Pro and followed the steps in order to get a video from my desktop to my ipod classic. It looked and sounded fine on my Itunes (Aside from taking forever to convert). But by the time I had to convert it again for my ipod the picture was subpar and the audio was horrible. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks

FCE works best with AIFF audio @48kHz. You can convert mp3s in iTunes (DRM prevents use of many iTunes Store tracks in FCE) but they wind up @44.1kHz. It's better to convert in QTPro, as that can give you the correct sample rate.
