Compressor 3.0.4 Needed

I am a frustrated Wraptor user, trying to get Wraptor to work with Compressor 3.0.1. No luck. I have discovered it will work 3.0.3 and 3.0.4. Might any have failed to run software updates in the last year? If so, you have the version of compressor I need. Will you share?
Apple has been no help on all this as they claim they do not have the donwgrade files anywhere at apple.

type in the serial, press return, and you will be brought to a page that has updates 01-04 on it. I don't even know how I got there, I didn't do it from the Apple site, interestingly. I got there from some tech news site. It IS Apple's site, but it's buried somewhere. I just downloaded 003 and 004. This is NOT the current update. It is in fact older updates.

This is more evidence that Apple really is not catering to a professional audience. Their agenda for a while has been digital-only content. They focus on getting finished products to ipods, ipads, and apple TVs.
Even consumers have complained about iDVD being ignored over the years in terms of feature set. I bet the next iLife will be the one to not include it.

Compressor crashing - urgent dvd needed

I am trying to encode a QT movie to MPEG 2 but Compressor keeps crashing as soon as I try to format. I have also tried this within DVD SP and the same thing happened - it crashed. My version of Compressor is 2.0.1 - the latest I can get because I purchased DVD SP while it was still a stand-alone package and the upgrade path has ended unless I buy FCP Studio.
Is this a version thing? I have a G5 running OS 10.5.6 and Mac Book Pro running the same. This problem is happening on both.
I need to do a decent DVD burn of an standard def. QT asap. Toast is not giving me good enough results.

Can you provide some specific details about this particular quicktime file?
If memory serves me correctly, your problems are most likely stemming from an old application (Compressor 2.0) running on a modern operating system (OS 10.5.6) which runs newer frameworks that it wasn't originally designed to work with.
Without upgrading to the latest FCS version, you may be stuck with Toast for the time being, especially if you're up against a deadline.

Compressor on a Xserve / Need more VRAM

So here is the issue, I am running Compressor 3.5.3. I currently have three computers in a cluster using qmaster. I am trying to add an Xserve into the mix. When I attempt to install compressor on the Xserve it throws me an error saying I don't have enough VRAM. Full error Message; "Final Cut Studio Install recommends a screen resolution of 1280x800; this system currently has a screen resolution of 1024x768. Final Cut Studio Installer requires that your system have 128 MB of VRAM; this system has only 64 MB of VRAM." I have about 500 GB of hard drive space. If anyone could help me that would be great.

The Final Cut Studio installer is looking for active VRAM when it installs. To activate VRAM, a display needs to be connected.
I ran into a similar issue when trying to install Compressor/QMaster on a couple of MacMini servers via Remote Desktop. Even though I could connect and operate the computer, I still needed to connect a display to activate its VRAM in order for the installer to install correctly.

Help! I am trying to export my show and commercials from the timeline. Both Share and Send to compressor are not working.
Its starts compressing then I get Failed"Quicktime Error -50". I appreciate any suggestions.

First try exporting a self-contained movie from FCP, the using the resulting file in Compressor. To do it, go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie (do NOT use QuickTime Conversion). In the export window, check the self-contained option but do not "recompress all frames."
Once the export is finished, launch Compressor then use the self-contained file as the source. If that fails, you may want to try using theis: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/compressorrepair/

FCPX works with Compressor 4. You cannot send to Compressor 3.

Need Help on How to Use Compressor 3

We recently upgraded from FCP 4.5 to FCP 6. And boy was I lost when I tried exporting the 45 minute video using Compressor. All I need to do is compress it to Mpeg-2... first I tried converting using QT but cant find format for mpeg-2 (m2v) so I decided to use Compressor. I dont know with you guys but it looks so complicated.
Can anyone pls give me a walk thru or step by step instructions how to compress my 45 min. video to mpeg-2...

Extreme image distortion in compressor preview

Running FCP 4.5 on a dual 2.5 G5, w/ 4 gigs of RAM.
I'm trying to export an 18 min. project to Compressor, using the mpeg2-60 min encoder(tried both fast and high quality) but when I inspect it in the preview, some of my video has been squeezed to a third its size and its position has changed to the top of the screen.
The shots in question have keyed out backgrounds with a video layer in the background. The weird thing is that only the foreground image is distorted, the background image is fine. I checked and both layers were captured using the same presets.
I also tried exporting from a nested sequence and the same thing is happening.
Any ideas?

what settings are you using in fcp?
what format is your source material in?
if only your foreground is distorted and your background is normal, that sounds like a problem in fcp, not in compressor ....
i would compare sizes and settings there first.
have you tried exporting your sequence to a quicktime movie first?
does your problem still occur?
does it occur in the quicktime movie or in compressor?
if it happens in the quicktime movie, again the problem is in fcp
if it happens in compressor, we'll probably need a lot more data to have any idea what's going on :)))

Setting for best quality in compressor

Hi.
I'm running FCP 5.1 and Compressor 2.3.1. For best quality videos on youtube I've heard it's a good idea to max out the free space they make available to you. What are the best settings I should use in Compressor for maximum quality uploads to youtube? Also what's a good setting for good quality video with a smaller file size? Also I should note most of my videos uploaded are of short duration 1 minute to 5 minutes. I've been using the settings DVNTSC and it's okay but maybe there's something better you can recommend? Also I tend to use Toast to burn DVD's. What's a good setting for best quality dvd's?

Keep in mind that the more compressed the file is (smaller file size), the lessor quality.
As for DVD compression, I've always found Toast's encoder to create poorer quality DVDs than Compressor or DVD Studio Pro. The best method would be to export a self-contained or reference movie from FCP (Do NOT use QuickTime Conversion), then import that file into Compressor. Use the DVD preset in Compressor that best matches your movie's duration. You can duplicate and adjust presets as needed for your particular movie. Compressor will create the needed MPEG-2 video file (.m2v) and Dolby Digital audio file (.ac3). Import those two files into DVD Studio Pro for authoring and burning.

Need Help with Slideshow

Hi, my daugher is having her Sweet 16 in 2 weeks. I have built 17 Slideshows for the Candlelighting. Before each cande is lit, I have a track that animates "Candle 1", "Candle 2" etc...They are m2v files built in motion 3 exported to compressor. What I need is to have the candle liting animation sit waiting for a command to go to the slideshow on each candle. I programmed the tracks to go toeach of it's slidesshows when the remote control holder hit "menu". I programmed "Menu" to go to "slideshow 1", "slideshow 2" etc.
It worked great in simulator, but in a real DVD player it didn't work. In a real DVD player the machine stopped.
My next attempt, I will put a chapter mark on the end of each cande track, the end jump for that would be "chapter 1". Then it will just loop until the remote hits "menu".
Is that the way to go or should I try a freeze frame at the top of every slideshow and then program a pause...
Let me know, time is getting critical, the DJ guy needs the DVD soon.

If this is an animation I am assuming it is looping? It could be easiest/quickest to use them as background videos in menus (17 Menus) with a hidden button (no highlights or if you want something like candle 1, 2 etc.) then when Enter Key is pressed it goes to the proper slideshow and then the slideshow end jump is to the next Menu?

QMaster and Compressor unavailable after update

Just updated to FCS 5.1, which installs Compressor 2.1 and QMaster 2.01.
Since update, I cannot start QMaster services here on the Quad (still fine elsewhere on the network). When I try to start services in Sys Prefs, I get the following error message:
Unable to start services because qmasterd is not running. Please consult your user's manual
Needless to say, there are a total of zero mentions of qmasterd in the docs.
qmasterd is indeed not running according to Activity Monitor
Also, "This Computer" option not available in Compressor
Reinstalled the entire suite twice, repaired privleges and cleared caches each time.
The first time I reinstalled, qmasterd did start up, but everything in Sys Prefs panel was greyed out, including Start Services button. The "This Computer" option was available, but the cluster (controlled by a G5 2.0DP) was not
After the second re-install, I was back to the same problem as before -- qmasterd would not startup.
If I manually start up qmasterd (i.e., double clicking the script file from usr/sbin) I can get it rumbling

well. Compressor and Qmaster should always have the
same version number.

Typically, the qmasterd error is because there was a
problem starting up. You can open a terminal, and
type "sudo SystemStarter start Qmaster\ services",
then look in console.log and see what the error was
if it didnt start up.
I will try this after I get my current job out. Once I manually start qmasterd, everything works as before, which is to say, sub-optimally, but it works

Alternatives to Compressor

(I'm cross-posting this question in the FCP forum as I'm not sure if my question is Compressor related or FCP related. I'm thinking the latter.)
Summary of the story so far: G4 died. Upgraded to a Mac Pro. FCP 4.5 HD had issues with the new computer. Ordered ($35) a replacement install DVD so that I could crossgrade. Apple took two weeks to send the replacement DVD in which time the crossgrade promotion ended. Apple's response; "Ha ha! We fooled u! You r teh suk!!".. or something along those lines.
So, I've been trying to get the old version of FCP running on the new Mac Pro. I hit ESC to ignore the "missing AGP" error and everything's now running except for Compressor/Qmaster. I've been scouring the boards for three days, trying all the different suggestions out there on getting it to run, to no avail yet. There's still one thing I need to try, then I'll post to the boards a full version of everything I've tried to see if we can get it working.
In the meantime, I have a DVD project that I NEED to get done. So, in the interest of one thread = one topic, I thought I'd throw this out there..
Can anyone recommend an alternative to using Compressor for the purpose of getting footage from FCP to DVDSP so that I can finish my project?
I've already proved that DVDSP still works and I'm able to edit in FCP (even though the app acts a little flaky). My requirements are...
- needs to be close in quality to Compressor, but doesn't need to be 100% match as I plan on saving the money over the summer to upgrade to whatever Studio version is coming next.
- needs to be able to fit 2 hours of footage on a single layer DVD (DVD5, I believe is the name?) 1.5 hours would be a "next best senario"
- I'd rather not buy anything new for this. I'm hoping that in the multitude of options in FCP HD 4.5, that there's something that I can use.
- A nice to have would be to split out the audio from the video so that I could use AC3 encoding to get the audio size small to help with the "2 hour" requirement above.
I've got some DVD's that I can practice on, so I'm willing to experiment with a few different suggestions.

Confused by this suggestion, so I'm hoping you can expand. This is my current workflow (could you detail what I'd need to do different)
1. Edit footage in FCP. I'll end up with a 2 hour timeline that I'd like to put on a DVD.
2. Choose Export>Using Compressor.
3. Choose encoding format then submit to batch (this is where I'm currently try and am trying to fix the issue)
4. Take the .aif and .m2v files that come out of Compressor and encode the audio with A.Pack then import both files as assets into DVDSP to create a DVD with.
There's a way to do the compression (ie. step 2/3) in DVDSP? Sorry to seem so dim about this, but I've been doing this pattern the same way for years and am a little ignorant of other options.

Hi again - further to my last post - I decided to create a new thread on the hope that someone can throw some light or at least agree with the trouble that I seem to be having. The last encode when transferred over to DL DVD as it was 5.9Gb in size looked acceptable until movement in video occurs and simple crossfade transitions happen - result : some sort of video digital blocking for that duration.
So I've tried another encode - this time to make better use of the space available on the DL disc so this time its a VBR 6.8Mbps and yes guess what ?
Its showing that 1hr 55 mins of video will take a staggering 21 hours !!
Yours with little knowledge but humbly searching mastery !

Hi Clay, plenty of posts on this forum for this.
To maximise the use of of multiple cores wth compressor, simply you will need to:
• upgrade to FCS 2
• use system prefs/qmaster prefs/number of instances*. Suggest 2 cores per instance only. .. not 4 as you might think in your case). I use 4 instances for 8 cores.. plenty on this in the forums.
• using either a quickcluster or apple qmasteradmin.app go define a cluster for you g5 quad.
Submit the job using this clustername.
watch all you cores go 100%!.

Export Settings for HD in Compressor

Hi,
What is the best pre-settings to preserve 16:9 aspect ratio of HD for streaming content using compressor. Do I need to manually adjust paramaters in these presets, preferably the video will be about 25% of source (1440 by 1080)

In the geometry tab of the inspector start be putting the width you want (320, 640, 720) and then choose then choose the "custom 16X9" choice in the pulldown next to the size fields.

P2 Proxy generation using Compressor/Qmaster

Howdy. We bought an Intel XServe to generate proxies for Final Cut Server when it ships (now that looks like...never) but while we wait we decided to use that server for MPEG-2 encodes, etc. Well, now I have an interesting problem.
We are exploring a P2 workflow. What I would like to happen is a shooter will come back from a shoot and use P2Genie to automatically suck off the MXF files to a folder on my XSan. I want Compressor to then create a proxy of the footage so the producers can do paper edits from their desktop. I found a cool plugin called "Calibrated" (calibratedsoftware.com) that allows QuickTime to view MXF files. So my thinking is now Quicktime can see the files, Compressor should be able to flip them - right? Well, not so much.
You can't create a droplet on a server that is your Qmaster "Cluster controller" because it doesn't have a "real" version of compressor. You would need to submit the batch from an editstation (as far as I can tell). Anybody have any experience doing something like this? I can't wait for FinalCut Server because it's vaporware until it ships. Even if you have no experience with P2, if you have automated compressor renders using something like Applescript it might help me.

I setup qmaster via sys prefs. Did a custom one. Set it to 4 instances already :-/
Goto advanced tab. Select show qmaster in status bar.
That way you can easily see what process is rendering on how many instances from the menu bar.
rendering with qmaster on shake I get the 4 rendering lights on all the machines.. same with sending a compressor job. FCServer seems to just use one.
Have selected the FCServer Cluster in Admin on the client app already.
hmm... maybe its because its sending the jobs to qmaster as low priority ?
