Compressor 3.5.3 not finishing bluray burn.
Hello folks. After updating my MacPro (early 2008) to Yosemite I've encountered numerous compatibility issues. I'm not certain if my current Compressor has anything to do with that update or not, but, when I try to burn a blurry just under 2 hours long Compressor gets almost all the way to the end, then the timer starts counting up. And the disc never burns. This is Compressor 3.5.3. Thank you for any advice. Eric

I tried to advise someone else about a similar job and I ran into problems as well with the Blu Ray setting on 3.5. So I'll be interested in whatever feedback you get. Since you're asking about 3.5. that shipped with FCS 3, you might ant to post this in the Final Cut Studio forum. Many of the contributors there will have recent experience with that version on 10.10.

Burning cd and it does not finish
hello. I have been buring CD's without any problem, but all of a sudden it will not finish the process, I then try to cancel it and the reply is that it may take a few minutes. The only way to end it is to turn my computer off. I am using a different CD..Memorex 52x 700mb,,could that have anything to do with it?
I was experiencing the same thing. I haven't changed my discs, itunes just stopped burning CD's. It would freeze with the "Disc Finishing" phrase, then I would have to force quit and restart. But, IDVD would still burn DVD's. So, I changed the burn speed in itunes. It was set to maximum possible so I lowered it to 20x and it works now. Not sure why this is, but I would say give it a shot. I am also using memorex CD-R's, mine are 48x and 700mb. Hope this helps

"unstable connection" when using my External Bluray burner!
I have a Mac Pro Quad (2008)and a Pioneer bdr-205bk in an external caddie.
I have a connection from one of the hidden internal SATA ports mounted as eSATA on the rear of the tower. My bluray burner has two methods of connection - usb and esata.
In both modes the drive works fine, reading and playing films. When I try to burn I get an unstable connection error and the drive stops responding. I have no idea whats going on!
I am trying to burn with Toast v10 - which has bluray support. As I mentioned prior to burning, the drive shows up as expected and all seems well.
I am running OS X 10.5 - latest patch...
Please can someone offer some advice....I have heard of ppl this error in SL and running old versions of toast...but looks like you don't have either of those issues!
have you tried burning a regular DVD with finder? same results? Do you only get the error when trying to burn bluray in toast?
when I installed my BD i had issues with the drive not responding, if I restarted the drive would work again, then stop responding again after about 5-10 minutes.
To fix that issue I went to sys prefs > energy saver > and unchecked put hard disk(s) to sleep when possible. -
Am I on right track for 1st Bluray burn? Getting concerned over how many 25gb discs needed......

I am working my way through my own HD 1st edit with CS5.5.2. Using tutorial book, on line support and a paid tutor. It is for a 1 hour 40 minute project of an important event, 1st time for a client I want to keep. Things are looking OK....I think.
Specifics: Shot 1080i 29.97 35mbs 4:2:0. I'm on OS 10.7.5 with 6 core 3.46 Mac Pro 48gb RAM. Very happy with edit. But have tried tests with 16 minute length exports of section of the time line to self contained QT. All at max bit rate and quality. And also at progressive frame rate at the suggestion of my tutor.

All look great! But am I going to have to get 50gb discs to keep this at no more than 2 discs? (preferably 1 if will fit on a 50gb disc) Obviously 3 hour Lord of The Rings type movies do.
Not even sure as this is 1st time....if the internal LG 12x with Lightscribe (dvd only) internal drive that OWC put into it when they upgraded and built this machine for me on their "performance" side.......will even burn dual layer discs? Now I can't find the exact skew number on it on their site that is on my invoice. Do these in general burn dual layer? Am I going to need dual layer if I drop down to 8 bit and whatever other recommended settings, that I am hoping someone here can please help me with? I'm assuming from the above I need to use mpeg 4 settings and go back to 1080i 29.97 that the project was set up for.

RonJim.....I am confused about this MXF OP1a "self contained" format. I took my test 16 minute portion of my main sequence as I have above with the other formats and exported to this format. It said it was going to "4:2:2 50". Which sounds great. Better than it was shot....with the main Sony PMW 320 recording at 35mbs 4:2:0. The encode was screaming fast, only about 5 minutes. And the file was the smallest yet....only 7.31gb. Great!!
How do I make a bluray burn out of that? I tried creating a new sequence in my project and inporting this and dropping it on my time line and then trying the Adobe Dynamic Link process and it said it could not do that to Encore. Previously today I was successful using the Dynamic Link process just straight from that 16 minute section of my sequence time line. And the burned bluray took only around 2.93 gigs and about 15 minutes. It looked fine on a 61" LED DLP rear projection set.
But as previously mentioned I don't want to keep the entire project files on my drives once I am done. I need a high quality self contained version so I have the archived copy, and can also burn from it additional copies down the road if needed. How do I do that with this MXF OP1a file?? Will it look as good as the disc I got directly from my 16 minute test portion of my edit?
Again, this is all new territory for me but I'm doing good and making great progress thanks to everyone's help.

You can, yes. Personally I prefer not to. The transcodes get saved to the folder and it makes archiving more cumbersome.
Projects don't have 'settings' any more. You can have any number of dfferent sequences in the same project. But yes, you'd not change the sequence settings. MXF OP1a would be an export option for archiving. -

So today I finished a project: Share >Export > as a pro res 422 and I'm now burning with iDVD as we speak. FCPX is still doing background rendering! I hope my DVD turns out ok....You don't need to render before export.
Rendering is for playback.
If your project plays OK from the storyline, you can safely turn off rendering in preferences.

BluRay Burner compatible with PE7
I am ready to try burning a BluRay Disc. Can you tell me what BluRay burners are compatible with PE 7. I have always burnt my standard videos to My Videos Folder and then had to use Nero 8 as my PE 3, and now PE 7, progs do not recognize my burners. Am I going to have to continue with Nero 8? I like to collect several Video clips in My Videos Folder (Windows XP Pro) and then I can make up DVD's with different combinations for different people. I do need advice on BluRay burners.

The first thing that I would address would be why PE7 does not see your current burners.
You mention Nero, also being loaded onto your system. Nero is a compilation of various "modules," that perform different, though often overlapping, functions. One "module," that is installed in the default installation is InCD. This is a packet-writing module. It allows one to "drag-and-drop" files to a CD/DVD, just like you do with on the hard drives on your system. If you have this installed, and it is very likely that you do, it will interfer with any Adobe program's burning capability. All Adobe programs, that allow burning to CD/DVD require 100% control of any burner used. InCD "hooks" all bunrners at bootup and will not release the burner to any other program at 100% level*. It is best to always do a "Custom" install, and uncheck the InCD module, so that it is NOT installed. Then PE, or Premiere Pro 2, or Encore, can find the burner and use it at the 100% level.
Usually, a complete uninstall of Nero, and then a Custom installation, will allow Adobe programs to use the burners, if they are installed correctly on one's system.
An easy check for InCD is to open Windows Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) and look in the Processes Tab. Dbl-click on the Name column twice, to set the listing to alphabetical with ascending order. Scroll down to the I's in the list, and see if InCD is listed. If so, this is very likely your problem. If so, open Control Panel, and choose Add/Remove Programs. Your list might take a moment to populate. Uninstall Nero. Insert your Nero disc into the drive/burner and choose Custom for install, unchecking the InCD module. I also do not install Nero's indexing/monitor, as it has been known to "watch" burners and also get in the way.
While still in Control Panel, look at System>Device Manager. Check that your burners are, in fact, seen by Windows and that they are listed as working properly. If not, then you will want to remove them in Control Panel, and reboot. Windows should then find them, and install its drivers for each. Check in Control Panel>System>Device Manager again. Any warnings?
This should get everything set up so that PE sees your burners. I have to say that Nero can be very invasive on a system. When I uninstall any part of it, I always run a Registry cleaner to make sure that all is removed, before I do a Custom re-install.
Now, for rearranging your "scenes" from your tapes, well, that's editing. It is the work and for me the fun of using an NLE (Non Linear Editing) program, like PE. I take the material from the tapes and arrange them in the order that I wish, i.e. all of the "garden" material into one Project. In PE, you cannot have multiple Sequences (read Timelines here), so I'd just do an edit for the gardens as a Project. Same for "travel," etc. Once edited, you would just Export as a DV-AVI "Movie," and bring the ones that you wish to combine into a new "master" Project. That would be what I would output to DVD, or BD. I use Premiere Pro, which allows for multiple Sequences, and treat each Sequence as a Chapter. I use another Adobe program, Encore, to author the final disc, and just Import each "Chapter" into it. PE does the authoring in one program.

* Other programs can hook the burners, as well as InCD. If you have Quicken and use its Save to CD, it will first invoke Windows' version of InCD, which is also a packet-writing application. Once invoked, the burner will only be seen as a CD drive by the system, even if it's a multi-drive. So InCD (Nero) is not the only way that this problem can come about. Any packet-writing application will hook the burners, and Adobe cannot find them.
There can also be issues with the wiring of the burners, that will cause this too. If they are both set to Master on their controller chain, problems can arise. Usually, it's just packet-writing software, that is the culprit. -
Purchased a Bluray burner ... now how to burn blurays?
I purchased a Buffalo BR3D-12U3 MediaStation bluray burner last week to use as a backup system (burn files to bluray). After reading the Amazon.com description where it states "Simply plug it in to your PC or Mac® and save or back up..." in several locations, I didn't even think there would be an issue using it with my iMac. That is until I got it (delivered) and read on the box that it's compatible with Windows and not Mac. What? Although this isn't my question, I must say that this is misleading advertising. Either it works on PC and Mac or it doesn't. Anyway. Now I need a solution...
I don't intend on creating actual bluray movies with this burner. All I need it for is to burn backups of files onto the bluray disks with the potential (of course) of retrieving those files in the future if needed. In other words, I'm using the bluray disks as an alternative secondary backup system in case my external drive fails. Hi, I have a Dell system maxed out. I have both a DVD Burner and a BluRay Burner drive in the system. I just had to replace the fan on the CPU as the plastic that would hold it onto the mother board broke. I have a 120GB SSD as my main
and a 600GB 10,000 RPM drive as my secondary drive. Because I did not realize the Fan was the problem keeping the system from booting up all the way. Which never had any problems before I had to put the system into storage when I retired from the Air
Force last year. So any ways I rebuilt the system back with Windows 7 Ultimate. Everything was working fine. So I started installing all my other programs. Over the next several days I did not notice any problems. Until I went
to play one of my games that requires a Disk to be in the drive to verify it was a OEM disk. When I went to play I noticed the game kept asking for the disk even though the disk was already in the drive. Went to my System display and noticed that
the disk would show up for a few seconds and then disappear and then the drive would access the disk again and then disappear. This keeps happening in both my drives. I have read though the forums and this is not anything to do with the disk drive

Could it bee that you accidentally moved the cables to the drive on the motherboard when you changed the fan? Make sure it's correctly connected in both ends.
It could also be that the drivers for the SATA-controller needs to be updated, try and download the latest ones from the manufacturers webpage.

There is a problem on my mac mini. I install windows7 in my mac then i cancelled the installation did not finish..after that i saw the black screen on my monitor untill now the monitor is black..
It maybe trying to boot from the incomplete install.
Try starting your Mac while holding down the Option key, it should then list all the available boot drives including the Mac OS X one. Boot from the Mac one and then you can wipe the damaged PC one or set the Mac to stay booting in to OS X. -

I am not able to burn a CD on Itunes
I am not able to burn a CD on Itunes. When I click burn it opens up the CD drive and I put in a black CD. When it goes back in it shows the computer is reading the disk, but then suddenly stops. No error message, just stops. At that point I did a diagnostics test and the following error appeared. Can anyone help me?

Yes, I had found a similar solution also. I'm running XP Pro, SP3. I went Control Panels/ Add-Remove programmes/apple software update/ change/ repair. Then run the 10.5 exe.
While the programme updated from version 8 of iTunes, my new iTunes is now a mess. Not all of my music was in the same folder previously but it all showed up on iTunes. Now many albums have been left out, some have only a few tracks and some have two copies of some tracks as well as having other tracks missing. I haven't begun to work on that. -
