Compressor 3.5 is changing my framerate.

Hi smart folks,
So a friend of mine asked me to put together an acting reel for her. She's had some success and has been on a few films and TV shows, so to get me her material she gave me copies of the comercial DVDs.
I've been pulling scenes off with Handbreak to a m4v format, pulling them into Compressor(v3.5)  and converting to prores (high quality for progressive) and then droping them into FCP 7. (for the audio I break it from the original m4v with quicktime and use itunes to convert it to aif and then remerge in FCP)
This had been working fine, the m4v's would come out of handbreak 23.976fps and get chaged to 29.97fps by Compressor and that's fine. I can work with that. But one of the disks (of a multi disk dvd set!) wont play ball. when I pull a scene off of it both quicktime player and vlc player tell me that it's 23.976. HOWEVER when it goes into compressor, compressor says it is 19.97fsp. and the subsequent prores file stays that way and then it's all kinds of trouble in FCP and i can't resync my audio.
Please someone, tell me what I'm doing wrong here. How do I fix it??
Thank you
Tim

Have you tried setting the frame rate manually in Compressor.
or
Try MPEG Steamclip and see if that works for you:

  • I need to change stage.frameRate, but how to keep tween speed?

    Hello. I am using Flash CS6.
    Right now I am trying to keep fps of tween motion.
    I mean, I made a button that  speeds up and down stage.frameRate, if I click the button it does stage.frameRate +=1 or stage.frameRate -=1, but if stage framerate changes, it speeds up the tween animation too.Is there anyway to keep the speed of tween animation?
    What I want to do is there are 2 movie clips, mcA and mcB, and mcA animation is dependent on stage.frameRate, if I click the forementioned button to change stage framerate, it also changes mcA framerate, but I don't want to change mcB framerate.There is a tween AS, it moves "mcB.x = 0" to "mcB.x = 100" in 10 frames with tween.I want to keep the pace of the tween animation.
    Please give me your advice.

    Use Actionscript to tween positions instead of using the timeline. Then you can base it on time rarther than frames.  For starters, look into using the built-in Tween class.  Once you get a flavor for using it, for better performance you can look into using third party tweening such as TweenLite.

  • FCP X changes my framerate.... ???

    I have 2 videofiles XDCAM EX 720 50p and one Audiofile.
    I created a Multiclip with all 3 and the Multiclip comes up as 60p.
    I checked the original footage, it is 50p
    I checked the footage in the viewer in FCPX and it says it is 60p... When I tell it to reveal it in the finder and open the revealed file in Quicktime it is 50p...
    Huh???
    does anybody have any clue what is going on? am I doing something wrong?
    any help would be much appreciated.

    Try manually creating a new project and setting it manually to 50p... Then drag in the clips...
    Sometimes when FCPx creates a project "based on first clip" it gets it wrong

  • Video changing its framerates at random.

    Hi, I have a video that I'm trying to do a project with. However, the person that sent me the video is kinda noobish and I am unsure as to how it has been encoded and what not.
    The file itself is in mpeg format and seems to have been captured from an older dv camera. The person who sent me this video said the filesize was 9gb which is too huge to be sent over the internet realistically (which sucks).

    These are the details given to me by the multimedia reporter inside of super video encoder (my go to tool basically). When I put this video into adobe premiere pro cs3, and add it to the timeline, and then preview the video file, it is VERY shifty, there will be small amounts of time when the video will play normally, but then it seems it will slow down and then speed up sorta to catch up to where it was when it slowed down, and then repeat the process again and again.
    I used one of the default templates for video. The video project details I have is normal widescreen dv @ 48khz audio (29.97 fps I believe). The video entails the use of four videos and a single audio track, and while the other videos seem to play with almost 0% problems, this video continues to irke my ire.
    The odd thing is that when I play the file in media player classic, the video is as smooth as butter. So I'm guessing it must be something within premiere or some setting that I am unsure of how to modify. Any helpful ideas are more than welcome as I'm just a hapless noob myself when it comes to video editing.
    Thanks!

    I agree with both Ann and Jim.
    The best solution would be for the client to go back a level in the process, and get you the DV-AVI Type II file, that was Captured from the miniDV tape - not a processed MPEG. Note: file size will be larger still, but if he/she uses a site like YouSendIt, you can basically download the file. It's like FTP, but without having to possess your own server. Works perfectly. There are also many similar services that get around the large file sizes.
    Next, as Ann says, "convert to DV-AVI Type II." However, this means that the quality will already have suffered with the initial MPEG-2 compression. Super, or any other program, will not be able to put that quality back in. It is gone forever. Also, if you are going to output to DVD, or some other compressed format, you WILL induce another quality loss. The conversion to DV-AVI Type II is only so that PrPro can edit the footage most effectively. I would guess that your issues stem from using MPEG-2 files.
    I do not use Super, but it does get good recs on many boards. I was under the impression (seems mistaken) that it was limited to output PAL footage. It seems that I am totaly incorrect in that thinking, as you are outputting NTSC 4:3, right?
    Good luck,

  • Workflow for changing framerate of MTS files

    I'm working on a 6 camera shoot and one of the cameras shot in 30p as opposed to 24P. I was just wondering what the quickest workflow would be for changing the framerate. All the shots for this camera don't require the use of it's audio. Is this something I would be able to use Cinema Tools for? I was going to go ahead and process the clips through log and transfer to get them to Prores LT.

    At the risk of ******* off my esteemed college Nick, Cinema tools will not retime the video. It will give you a 24fps version of a 30fps original with all frames playing. That is, you will end up with a SLOWED version. If that's your intent, ok.
    Otherwise, you need to use Compressor to retime the thing.

  • Compressor changes my aspect ratio

    I'm trying to post a video on youtube that is HD and takes up the widescreen on youtube. I have done this before using the same settings I used this time, but for some reason Compressor automatically turns my file into a full screen ratio. When I try to upload the mp4 onto youtube, I get these huge black bars on the sides. If I play the .mov of the movie after I exported it from Final Cut, it plays in a widescreen format, but once compressor touches it, it changes to a full screen format. Can anyone help me? please!!!

    Click the Geometry tab in the Inspector window and set the frame size to a 16:9 resolution (i.e. 1280x720)

    It doesn't seem to matter to the output file I get what kind of framerate I select when constructing the output VideoFormat. Am I doing something wrong ? I want to get a framerate of 30 FPS.

    >
    I want to get a framerate of 30 FPS.That may or may not be possible...regardless, once you get your processor, you need to get the FrameRateControl control on it, and use that to set the frame rate.Hmm. I retrived the controls from the processor, and changed the FrameRateControl one, but it still doesn't seem to change the FPS. If I check out the properties of the video in Windows Explorer or in mplayerc it says it's 4 FPS (trying with 4 FPS since I'm just testing with a webcam ATM and I figured I'd see the difference easier that way), but the video itself runs in 16 FPS (like it always has) and the size of the video file is equvivalant to 16 FPS not 4. Does the capturing device have to support to the framerate you selected?
    I suppose this doesn't matter though, if there's an easier way to do this without using ProcessorModels, but I'll include the code anyways.
    Control[] controls = processor.getControls();
    FrameRateControl frameControl = null;
    for(int i = 0; i < controls.length; i++) {
            if(controls[i] instanceof FrameRateControl) {
                    frameControl = (FrameRateControl) controls;
    frameControl.setFrameRate(fps);

  • How to change framerate in Final Cut Express

  • Sequence Background Color Change

    I kind of doubt this is possible, but you never know. Is it possible to change the gray background color of the timeline Sequence?
    We need to make it extremely obvious what sequence our editors are using. We have several Sequences with specific codecs that are used for different purposes and we need to make it obvious beyond a doubt what Sequence they are working on. Unfortunately we can not use Compressor to make this change in our workflow. We are trying to make this workflow as simple as possible, and this is one consideration we are looking into.
    Thanks in advance for your ideas and help.

    I'm guessing this is an educational institution? If not, I agree with the above statements about not hiring editors who need different colored timelines. But if you ARE in the business of teaching, then consider this as part of the lesson. You can't teach someone how to be an editor without teaching them the things that editors have to know.
    But the real answer of your question is, no. You can't have FCP automatically set your timeline to a certain color, even by using the label feature, on the bias of the sequence settings. Even if you use the label feature, you would still have to manually label each and every sequence that was created.
    Teach your editors well. Their producer's **** will slowly go by.

  • HP Pavilion Slimline s5-1414 Accidentally changed frame rate.

    Hi I'm new to this computer got it earlier in the year but never reaally tried it till now. My problem is that I changed the framerate from 60 to 120 fps and now i have no video. How do i fix this? I tried 2 different monitors one which is a pretty old one and the other was an Lg tv which states invalid format. the monitors also seem to have not worked while I'm starting up the computer what should I do to fix this?

    Hi phz19,
    Welcome to the HP Community! Are you referring about the refresh rate on your monitor? Frame rate is something that you can't really modify directly other then changing some settings which will effect it but you can change the refresh rate directly. Do you get anything on the screen at all when you turn on the Pavilion or does it just stay blank?

  • Istopmotion. how can i change the frame rate in a project?

    so i finally got istopmotion and i love it. its a bit tricky using the built in isight to grab shots but i am getting an external one. anywho, i was wondering if there is a way, once you have started working on a project, if you can change the framerate. i started a project, got pretty far into it, and found it was too fast. i'm probably just gonna redo this project but i wanna know for the future. thx

    When you open up a new project you select your frame rate (same place where you select the format of your project). You could always slow/speed things up when you edit later in FCS or whatever you like to use for video editing.

  • How do I change the audio sample rate from 48kHz to 44.1kHz for Mpeg2

    Hey all,
    I've been searching for a while but haven't found any direct answers in the forums or the user manual so here goes.
    I have to dispatch a file to Bloomberg TV and the file specs they have given me are as follows:
    Video Standard: MPEG-2, MP:ML, 4:2:0
    Frame Rate: PAL 25fps
    Video Size 720 x 405
    Aspect Ratio 16:9
    Audio Standard MPEG-1 Layer 2
    MPEG-2 Program Stream Mux rate 6mbs per second
    Bit Rate Type: CBR
    Video Bit Rate 5.7mbs
    Audio Bit Rate 192kbs
    Audio Sample Rate 44.1Khz
    Interlacing: Upper Field first (why they want interlaced for web streaming is beyond me)
    GOP Structure: IBBP
    I-Frame distance 12
    Now everything above is fine except the audio encoding because even though I have set up a new setting from scratch I cant find anywhere to adjust the audio sample rate. The Inspector tells me the Audio encoder is set to:
    Format: MPEG
    Sample Rate: 48.000kHz
    Channels: 2
    Bits Per Sample: 16
    Anyone Know how or even if I can change these audio settings? The only adjustments I can find are the filters or the transport/program stream option. I have it set to program as specified by Bloomberg.
    Thanks in advance
    J

    The only setting that I could find in compressor that lets your change the bitrate to 44.1 is when you create a new dolby digital setting and then under the inspectors audio tab/Target System button, change the button to Generic AC-3. When done, you can change the Sample Rate to 44.1.
    Hope this helps?

  • PAL DVD mit FCPX und Compressor 4

    I have FCPX and compressor 4 installed on a new imac. I edited my firs project. 27 minutes of scuba diving. When I export the movie to DVD the quality of the pictures in the movie is poor. I made in compressor a preset in changing from NTSC to PAL and I changed to 16:9. The movie was then in toast only 800 MB and the quality is very poor. Can somebody tellmy how to make a PAL DVD in good quaity, 2-3 GB?How do I have to change the preset in compressor?
    Thanks for your help. By the way I love FCPX!

    Try making the Compressor quality two-pass VBR between 6.5 and 7.5. Or try one-pass CBR at 7.5. You don't have to export the whole movie, just pick a problem section and mark in and out points in the Compressor preview.

  • How can I change the velocity rate of my animation?

    Hi all!
    I have a portion of an animation I want to play at different user-defined speeds (within a continous range of values). I saw audio and video files can be configured to that effect via their playbackRate property. Something like that but for a portion of the timeline would be great. Is that possible? I also looked into changing the framerate, but it seems it is not possible in An.
    Thanks in advance!

    Yep your are right its not possible to change the frame rate of Animate content timeline.
    But you can have the same symbol at different timeline durations and play one of them based on your parameters to give illusion of  symbol playing at different frame rates.
