Compressor 3.5 issues.

I got Compressor as part of Logic Studio and I have two huge issues:
1) Whenever I open Compressor I am asked for the serial number despite the fact I have already submitted it.
2) The submit button in the submit window is greyed out. - this one might just be my incompetence but help would be appreciated.
Thanks for any help,
Josh

Thanks for the suggestions.
Yes, I have FCP X on the new machine and have tried removing it and it's made no difference unfortunately.
Should've mentioned I used the Remover app to do all the reinstalls in my initial post
I think I've worked out where the issue is though.  Compressor won't find 'This Computer' as a cluster option.  If I try to manually add it using my IP it just searches and searches to no avail.  So I think therein lies the problem, just have to find a way to solve it still!
Cheers

  • Compressor & Magic Bullet issue

I might actually break down into tears if someone can figure this one out. I have looked all over the web tryin to find someone with the same issue. I have used Magic Bullet Looks through FCP and compressor for a couple years now with no issues. I am using Compressor 3.5 which I dont even remember upgrading to but notice the new options (ex. export for iphone/dvd etc).
My issue is when I export my edit to compressor the final quicktime file doesnt have any of my Magic bullet affects, just the std footage. When I export as a quicktime movie and do not use compressor the affects are there fine.
Anyone out there have any idea what I can be missing? I havent changed my procedure from what ive done from numerous edits.
    Thanks

    hi
    i've the same problem!!!!
    Some news??

  • Compressor "unknown time issue"

Ive been reading a few posts and this software seems to have a lot of timing issues. I have one of my own. Lately Ive noticed compressor has been getting really slow and sometimes wont work at all, saying "remaining time unknown". Is this a popular issue? I now need to use a different machine to compress my final cut movies. What might the problem be?
Im on a MacBook Pro intel 2 core duo and never had problems until recently.

I there. I'm having the same problem but there are no files in my '/var/spool/Qmaster' folder. It just sits there, not processing a thing displaying this message. I've cleared the 'Background processes' and ditched the prefs for compressor - well I think i have anyway. 'com.compressor.Compressor' file - right?. Just seems like the instruction to process isn't reaching the motherboard.
Please help. I have a dvd to burn and it's looking like I'm going to have to farm it out.
    Thx in advance.

  • Compressor 2 compression issues

I just bought the studio. Everything works well, except compressor 2. When it comes to encoding, it seems to have a problem with transitions, particularly if I use slow motion and several filters. The transitions always looks digitized. I have used a number of the presets and even created custom presets.
I re-log and captured the footage on another computer still using FC 4.5, DVD Studio 3, and Compressor 1.2. That always seems to work, but these steps just add to a workflow that is already at the breaking point. I want to continue using FC5 and all of the other programs it comes with, but will have to, for the first time, walk away from an Apple product less than enthusiastic, particularly if my projects hinge on quality compressions for DVD burning.
Oh, yeah. I am using Dual 2gig G5 and shoot normally in SD MiniDV. Sometimes 16:9 aspect ration, but usually 4:3.

    Dear Stephan,
I had the same exact problem while using FCP 4.5, DVD studio 3. The problem only exists during dissolves, especially between two photos. I talked to several Mac specialists (fcp certified, and dvd studio pro certified) who suggested putting in a compression marker for every dissolves, and instead of using Quicktime Compressor, use COMPRESSOR, and then in the drop down window 60 HIGH QUALITY compression, set your targets and GOOD LUCK. I tried it, retried it, and it seems to be working. I don't notice as much lost pixels between dissolves. It adds more work to put in so many markers. So far it's working. There's a bug in FCP I think and I hope Apple will work it out soon. In the meantime, good luck and thank you for airing your problem b/c I thought I was the only one.
    Best,
    k chen

  • Compressor aspect ratio issue

All of a sudden this week compressor started outputting DVDs and Apple Devices in a long squeezed format, the default setting for example for 640*480 shows 640* actually shows as 640*380. I am outputting in 16:9 from high def the same settings I have been using for well over a year and the last 2 jobs this started, I have to go in a tweak the settings to get it right. Also when I went to trash preferences I noticed
    com.apple.Compressor.CompressorSharedService.plist
was missing the other is there.
Also when I run both jobs in Sorensen with all default settings the jobs renders fine.
    Any thoughts??

You might try to use MPEG Streamclip to onvert 4:3<->16:9:

  • Major Compressor 1.21 Issues here!

I've searched all over for a solution and I'm open to all suggestions here. Compressor 1.21 worked fine until a couple of years ago around the time I upgraded to Panther which I am still using. After that I would submit a batch and immediately get the 'unexpectedly quit' error. However it was no problem because the batch would still run in the background so compressor seemed to be the problem. Now, for whatever reason the batch and compressor crash so I've got no way to encode my work. I've deleted Compressor and reloaded it twice to no avail. I've repaired permissions. Any and all solutions please.

Contrary to belief, Compressor does work and works well. I've been using it solid since FCP 5 came out without any problems at all. The only crashes I've had so far have actually been from a codec I was using, not compressor itself. People just have to figure out what configuration works for them.
BTW, for those with compressor crash problems and some technical skills. There are crash logs at \Users\<username>\Library\Logs\CrashReporter. Look for the thread that crashed and see what it was last doing. This is how I found the bug in one of my codecs. It might give you some information about why compressor is crashing.
Maybe even post the offending threads callstack here, but not the entire crash report please.

  • Compressor 3 - Encoding Issue

I have tried exporting with FCP 7 through Compressor as well as an Apple Intermediate Codec file.  The edit is around an hour long and I continuously get the following error:
"Failed: QuickTime Could Not Access a File.  Offset too big."
    Any suggestions?

First, are you exporting using file:  export: quicktime movie with current settings and then bringing the resulting file into compressor.  That's usually the best way to work.
There might be something problematic in your sequence.  Try exporting in sections til you find the problem area.  It's also possible that your sequence is corrupt.  Creating a new sequence with the same settings and copying the contents of the original sequence to the new timeline will sometimes fix this problem.
Post back if any of this isn't clear.

  • Compressor Issue

Lately I've been experiencing issues while trying to export from compressor. The issues lies in the fact that when the process begins to export a file it severely affects my whole system for example it will not tell me an estimated length of export it now says "unkown" and then begins to freeze up and crash but when I close the application it acts as though its still open affecting all other applications. I have to force quit and restart my whole system to get it functioning normally. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

First thing to try is [Compressor Repair|http://digitalrebellion.net/compressor_repair.htm].
Also check out the other Final Cut Studio tools on the site, it is an invaluable resource for editors and the author of those applications is a regular on these forums.

  • FCP playback and exporting issue

Hi, I'm having an issue in FCP where as I'm playing it, all of a sudden a picture will go really wierd - i.e. the colours will be bright blue and pink, and the picture showing will not actually be the correct image, but one from somewhere else in the timeline.
If I just hide and re-show the subtitles that are above the image, the picture is back to normal.
I thought it would just be a problem in FCP, but it also occurred when I exported using best quality in compressor.
This issue only started occurring when I started making some changes to the subtitles (there are a lot in the film) - but I don't see how that could affect it.
I also thought maybe it could be to do with the fact that I have 6 video tracks (made up of subtitles, captions, etc.)?
If anyone knows anything about why FCP is doing this, and how to stop it, I would greatly appreciate your help.
    Thanks
    Jomee

sound like corrupted render files ... try fully deleting your render cache using Tools > Render Manager, then re-render and export

  • When Is Apple Going to Fix Compressor!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had nothing but trouble trying to use compressore from quality issues to the dreaded can not find background process error. If finally got it to work for the fourth time after three hours waisted.
WHEN IS APPLE GOING TO DO SOMETHING AND QUIT IGNORING US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am extremly tired of waisting time trying to fix my software. I wish I would have stayed with Final Cut Four and DVD 3 and saved the money I spent on new computer and software. At least it worked!!!
PLEASE FIX THIS SOOOOONN APPLE!!!!!!!! STOP WAISTING OUR TIME!!!!!!

I made a post this morning titled "Petition Apple to fix Compressor" and the mods removed it. Not surprising. I think the best thing we can do is send an email directly to Steve Jobs. I have sent emails in the past and have gotten a response from the appropiate team at Apple.
If that doesn't work, try emailing journalists like Jason O'Grady or the guys at Apple Insider. They'll probably pick up on it and make a big stink.
Hey.. ya gotta do what you gotta do. It's not right to ignore bugs in a professional application.

  • FCP to Compressor.....then.... nothing.....

Hi, had a look around and I can't see anything like my problem.... which is weird....
Long story short, using a different mac as mine is dead....
Had to install FCP etc on this machine , a 2.7 IBM G5 loaded with RAM and G card.
Exporting a FCP project to compressor.... Compressor launches, and then nothing.....
I can't see the batches..... I can't see nothing... just the menu bar that says Compressor.
Been in the window menu, to unhide everything, all comes back but the batches...
    Tried file, new batch, nothing....
Tried to reinstall all applications, nothing..
    Deleted the Compressor.saved.moduleLayout file, nothing.
Anyone can think of something else?
this is quiet urgent as I need to export flv files this week end and I need compressor to work for that...
    Would appreciate your help..
    Cheers

    +Compressor: Troubleshooting basics+
    Issue
+If Compressor isn't starting up properly or performing normally, try these basic troubleshooting steps to remedy the situation. These steps are fundamental, basic things to try that are most effective in getting Compressor into good working order.+
+This is the right place to start if you are attempting to to submit a batch and you see the following message:+
+Unable to submit to queue. Please restart your computer or verify your Compressor installation is correct.+
    Solution
    +Confirm versions+
+Update to the latest software versions.+
+Choose Software Update from the Apple menu and make sure that you have the most recent updates for your versions of Compressor, QMaster, QuickTime, and other important system files. Installing the latest updates ensures that your software has the latest improvements and enhancements.+
+Check compatibility and driver versions for third-party devices.+
+If you're using a third-party capture card, storage system, input device, or something else, check the support area on the manufacturer's website to be sure that you're using the latest version of the relevant driver or other software for your device.+
    +Confirm your computer's name in Sharing+
+A Computer Name and a Local Hostname must be populated in the Sharing pane in System Preferences (even if sharing is not enabled for any services).+
+Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.+
    +Click Sharing.+
+If the Computer Name field is blank, enter a name.+
    +Click the Edit button.+
+If there is not a name in the Local Hostname field, enter a name.+
    +Delete the User Preferences+
+You can resolve many issues by restoring Compressor back to its original settings. This will not impact your project files. To reset your Compressor user preference settings to their original state, do the following:+
+In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences—the tilde (~) represents your Home folder.+
+Remove the following files from the Preferences folder:+
    com.apple.Compressor.CompressorSharedService.plist
    com.apple.compressor.Compressor.plist
+Note: This will not delete any custom settings that you may have created. Custom settings are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/Compressor.+
    +Repair File Permissions+
+Close all the files and applications that you have open.+
+Open Disk Utility (located in the Utilities folder in Applications) and select your startup disk in the list on the left.+
    +Click First Aid.+
+Click the Repair Disk Permissions button.+
    +Remove and reinstall Compressor+
+To reinstall Compressor effectively, you need to remove the application, its receipts and associated files, then install Compressor and use Software Update to install additional updates. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Compressor. Note: Make sure that you have the installation discs for the application that Compressor was bundled with and the serial number handy before starting this.+
+Use Finder to remove the following listed items:+
    +/Applications/Apple Qadministrator.app+
    +/Applications/Apple Qmaster.app+
    /Applications/Compressor.app
    +/Applications/Utilities/Batch Monitor.app+
    +/Library/Application Support/Apple Qmaster (the folder)+
    /Library/Frameworks/AECore.framework
    /Library/Frameworks/Compressor.framework
    /Library/Frameworks/MediaServerAPI.framework
    /Library/Frameworks/Qmaster.framework
    +/Library/Logs/Qmaster (the folder)+
    +/Library/PreferencePanes/Apple Qmaster.prefPane+
    /Library/Receipts/Compressor.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/Qmaster.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/Qmaster_Frameworks.pkg
    +/Library/StartupItems/Qmaster (the folder)+
+In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.+
    +Type the following path:+
    /usr/sbin/
    +Click the Go button.+
+Locate the following items from that Finder folder, and drag them to the Trash:+
    qmasterca
    qmasterd
    qmasterprefs
    qmasterqd
+In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.+
    +Type the following path:+
    /var/spool/qmaster/
    +Click the Go button.+
+If there are any folders inside the qmaster directory, drag them to the Trash.+
+If you have Motion installed, drag it from the Applications folder to the Trash.+
+From your install disc, reinstall Compressor and Apple Qmaster (and Motion, if applicable).+

  • Compressor 3.05 "unable to submit to queue" after upgrade to Mountain Lion

I have successfully compressed 1500 videos using Compressor 3.05 while running  OS X10.5 (Leopard).  I just upgraded to 10.8.3 (Mountain Lion) and the first batch I sent to Compressor had destination issues that I fixed (I think). I'm not getting any more exclamation marks but now it drops down the error message "Unable to Submit to Queue - please restart your computer or verify your Compressor installation is correct."  I have restarted, of course.  I have no idea how to verify the installation is correct.  We did migrate all the files to a new boot drive, but FCP 6.0.6 and all other programs are working well.

Perhaps Compressor installed correctly but Qmaster didn't. You could try running Compressor Repair (check the trash preferences box) and see whether that changes anything. Also repairing permissions after installing is always a good idea,
FWIW, I've been skeptical about the reliability of using Migration Assistant on pro apps – although I know there are a lot of hurdles to get over if installing FCS 2 on either Lion or ML and can understand why. I hope that someone who has actually installed FCS2 on either of those OS versions will chime in with suggestions based on their experience. Have you tried getting the Rosetta installer to install on ML so you can use the FCS disks?

  • Repeated Failed or Media Not Found in Blu Ray Encode in Compressor 3.5

I tried six burns using both Share and in Compressor.
On five occasions, Create Disc launched before Compressor had completed the encode, and reported a "file not found" error message.
This is on clean install of 10.5.8 to a fresh volume.
I also disabled the quick cluster and received a failed burn as well.
Brand new 8 core Mac with 12 GB/s of RAM.
You can't get a cleaner system than this.
Using a quad interface OWC blu ray burner with FW800 connection, and pro res 1080/24p footage. Except for the one try with Share, everything was export self contained.

    David,
You might even want to reduce your instances to 4. The reason being is that often the intra-processor traffic can get congested when treating the cores as nodes (or even the virtuals) versus treating the processor itself as the node. I found that with the 8 core machines, the sweet spot for virtual clusters was 4 instances.
Also, just did s set of BD and AVCHD burns from both FCP and Compressor with no issue.
Lastly, in terms of visual feedback, the Create Disc icon in the dock provides a Toast-like progress display with the disc filling up from the center out.

  • Cannot Update Final Cut Pro X

FCPX 10.0 was purchased and installed on my system. I'm unable to update it.
The application is listed as a purchsed application on my AppStore/Purchased page. However the button to the right reads "Install" instead of "Installed." If I press Install, I see this:
The purchase button on the product page also reads "Install." If I press it I see this:
I was able to update Motion and Compressor with no issues. If I enter the AppStore Updates page, it reads: "All apps are up to date."
    Anyone else seeing this?
    thx.

  • Apple device h.264 codecs failed

For the last two days I've been using the Apple Device h.264 codec to compress 1-3 minute clips to prepare for apps. Everything worked smoothly. Now all of the sudden none of those three listed codecs work. Other codecs in Compressor do, but not the ones under the Apple Device category. I've been exporting out of FCP, so instead I tried to import into a QT movie into Compressor and try it that way, but that didn't work. I tried to repair Compressor with this:
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/compressorrepair/
That didn't work. I tried to repair permissions on my computer through my Disk Utility, and that didn't work. Do you know what else I can do?
    Thanks,
    miss2z
P.S. I'm posting this now, but I have to leave the computer for a time. My reply could be slow at first.

If you can export H264 files out of FC or by opening a file in QT and then exporting a H264 then the system does have the codec and Compressor has the issue.
I would try uninstalling all of FCS since you have already re-installed Compressor and Qmaster.
I presume you uninstalled with Digital Rebellion's uninstaller software as opposed to just reinstalling from the discs or dragging the app to the trash and reinstalling? I would not recommend the later two.
When I uninstalled with DR's uninstaller and reinstalled I still had to insert every disc and it took quite a bit of time. I would consider uninstalling everything and then reinstall.
Digital Rebellion also has a preference manager for FCS and this will save any preferences you desire in FCS. I would use this before the uninstall and not save anything related to Compressor.
Absolute worst case scenario: Clean install
This means you take your system disc and erase the hard drive and start over from scratch. Cloning your system drive and time machine can help avoid some of this but some people feel that time machine isn't the best option for backing up things like FCS. It is a huge hassle and very time consuming but every time I have done a clean install and reinstalled everything it has ALWAYS worked.
