Compressor 4.1.2 BluRay Encoded File is too big - Help!

I just encode a 4 hours of HD footage using compressor's Bluray output (H.264 Video & AC3 Audio).  It took near 10 hours of seemingly wasted time.  I am working with 25g blurry discs and the H.264 File Size is 27.71 gigs.  So now I need to re-encode.
How can I control the file size in this newest version of compressor?  In the past compressor always knew to keep the h-264 file size under 25gigs.  Any ideas?
Thank you!

If you visit the FCP X discussions forum you will several threads about Blu Ray issues. There are clearly some problems that affect some systems in unexpected ways

OK, so after many many hours!  The file size still came in too big.
That's why I suggested twice that you do a short, 15 minute test…so you wouldn't have to waste al that time to find out it wasn't encoding the projected size.
Sure. Drop both he average and max bit rate. But do the 15 minute test first to confirm it will fiit. I don't know why it's overshooting but it is and there's some guess work involved,

  • The offset in the file is too big"? Other than, hey it's FAT formatted, etcetera!

Does anyone have an answer for "The offset in the file is too big" error while creating a file using QT API "writeToFile"?
I mean something other it's FAT formatted, not enough space, et cetera. Anyone?

First how much free space do you have on your boot drive.  For normal use it's recommended to have a minimum of 10 GB free space.  If you use iDVD up that to 20-25 GB.  Lots of cache and swap space is needed.
Create the slideshow in iPhoto, set the disiplay size ratio to 4:3 and export it out of iPhoto at the medium or large size.
Open a new project in iDVD and add the QT file to the iDVD menu being careful to avoid any dropzones.
With a 90 minute slideshow you can use a single layer DVD disk. iDVD doesn't care about the file size of the media added to a project, only the playing time of the project, including menus.
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality final product:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
You shouldn't try to create the slideshow in iDVD with still photos if the number of still photos is larger than 99.  That creates a pause or stall when playing back on many set top players.

I have a few wedding projects(1-2 hours)I am trying to export at full hd quality, than burn in idvd. After rendering for 8hrs I receive error code that states "file is too big". Please help? compressing tips without losing quality? or any other exporting alternatives?

    Hey Z,
Thank you for the tip on exporting by media browser (large) from imovie. But of course, if it's not one thing it's another. Now that I figured how to export a large file from imovie, I have an idvd issue. I followed the instructions for burning from idvd and changing the encoding to professional quality and the burn speed to x4, but I am receiving an error that states the following,
Your project exceeds the maximum content duration. To burn your DVD, change the encoder setting in the Project Info window.
    Project:
    - total project duration: 79:04 minutes
    - total project capacity: 4.327 GB (max. available: 4.172 GB)
    Menus:
    - number of menus in project: 1 menus
    - total menu duration: 0:39 minutes
    - total menu capacity: 37.370 MB
    Movies:
    - total movies duration: 78:25 minutes
    - total movies capacity: 4.291 GB
I have searched in the idvd forum for similar issues and I am stumped at this point. I have tried deleting the encoding assets and re launching idvd with the changed preferences, and still the same error. I know you mentioned something about free hard drive space available, and I have very little left. 4GB to be exact due to massive hours of non-edited footage. I am not sure if this is why, but I do not recall ever needing free space to burn memory onto a separate dvd. I would be more than happy if I am wrong, and it would be a quick fix. Otherwise, the technical nightmare continues. It's all a learning process and your expertise is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

  • Converting MPEG-2 to DV - file is too big!

Okay, I took an old 120 min. VHS tape and converted it to MPEG-2. Then, using MPEG Streamclip with Apple MPEG-2 Playback, I converted that file to DV so that I can edit it with iMovie and finally with iDVD.
My problem: the file is too big. I'm assuming that, to finish this project in iDVD, I need to stay under 4.7 GB. Well, this file is 16.7 GB!
Can I compress it after it has already been converted to DV?
If not, what settings do I need to adjust on MPEG Streamclip to convert this 120 min. MPEG-2 file into an iMovie/iDVD compatible file that's under 4.7 GB?
Also, being that I need to compress the file so much, doesn't that mean I'm going to lose 75% in picture/sound quality?? I hope not.
I'd appreciate any tips you guys may have for me. Thank you!

When iDVD burns your iMovie project to a DVD, it encodes the movie (compresses it) as MPEG-2.
iDVD can burn projects up to 2 hours in length to a single-sided DVD.
Your video must be about 85 minutes, for DV is about 13GB per hour. So it should be fine.

  • 5 minute FCE file is too big to export to cd

I am in a panic. I've been up all night finishing a fce project for school submission which is due in four hours.
When I export the project as quicktime movie the file is too large to burn to a cd. I there anything I can do to fix this? I thought it would compress as a QT movie.

What do you mean by the file being too big?
    How big is it?
Normally 5 minutes would be around 1GB.
Do you mean you are actually burning it to a CD and not a DVD?
Normally one would burn a video to DVD in iDVD and that would be compressed by iDVD to around 300MB.
I have re-read your post and it seems you may be wanting to simply copy the QT file for transportation. Is that the case?

Perhaps QT is not 64-bit and you are passing it something too big. Only people who know QT would know for sure.

In iPhoto, Select All the Photos you want to move... Then goto  > File > Export >
Choose the settings as seen here
Click Export and select your External Drive
Best to create a Folder to put them in... and away you go...

The other alternative is the Save As Other>Reduce File Size. The PDF Optimizer gives you more control. You might also use the audit feature in the PDF Optimizer to see where the size problem is coming from. You might find that in the WORD file you can select and image and then go to the FORMAT (pictures) menu and select compress for all of the bitmaps in the file. That will typically use 150 dpi by default that is adequate for most needs.

  • Attach/open file window too big for screen

Just recently I've found that when I go to attach a file in email for example, or open something in the finder the window that comes up from which I can choose my file is too big for the screen. So the bottom corner, which has the "attach" or "Cancel" buttons, is obscured. It's very frustrating... I can hit enter to attach a file but can't cancel it if I change my mind. Hope that makes sense... I've moved the dock out of the way but that doesn't help at all, and I can't use the green button to resize or anything.
Hope someone can help... I've also restarted the computer but the problem is still there. I'm using a macbook pro, and I have upgraded to the latest OSX software.
    thanks

    Hi!
I'd click the title bar of the application, then click on the + to fit on screen.

  • Why does my mac say the file is too big to burn on DVD when it isn't?

I'm trying to burn a file on DVD. The file is 2.1 gigs, the DVD is supposed to be able to hold 4.7 gigs, but it keeps telling me the file is too big!
Anticipating a question: 2.1 gigs is the actual size according to "get info", not the size of the alias on my burn disk.
And, if this matters, I'm backing up a folder with four items inside. My Entourage "identity" folder.
    Thanks in advance!

Repair permissions and restart your computer.  Try burning the dvd again.  If the issue still occurs use VisualHub (direct download). VisualHub will turn the video file into a dmg that you should be able to burn.   Other resources - Video Monkey and Toast.

  • When exporting a 16:9 project using Qk Conversion, it says file is too big?

I just bought FCE HD, but I have been using regular express since early 2004. I want to send my 16:9 widescreen standard def. video from FCE HD to iMovie HD. The only way for iMovie to accept a widescreen video without pillarboxing it is through a DV stream file. I have done this numerous times with the older version without a problem, but now when I export my hour long video, in the middle of exporting using quicktime conversion, it says to file is too big. I have over 100 GB left of harddrive space, so why does it says it's too big? I have used the new Title program that came with the HD upgrade which offers HD text. On my DV-Widescreen NTSC project, I used HD text graphics and rendered them and they played fine, but when I try to export the text with the video, it fails. Could the HD graphics be the culprit, or is it something else entirely?

Yes. When I am trying to export the entire hour-long project using quicktime conversion, it says: error- file is too big, right in the middle of exporting. I am working off an external harddrive using firewire, this is so I have plenty of space for my videos. When I make my titles with the new title program that came with FCE HD, I switch the format of the text format, under project preferences, to HDTV 1080i 16:9. I do this not because my project is HD, WHICH MY PROJECT IS NOT HD, but because it offers a widescreen ratio for my titles. I can use the entire frame for my graphics and titles, etc. I save each and every file into a folder and load them into final cut when I am in final cut. It just has to render them as I go. I DO NOT save each file as a movie. When exporting, I export under quicktime conversion- DV Stream- DV, 16:9 interlaced, and I don't mess with the audio setting. The WHOLE point of this is for iMovie to read my file as 16:9 so it won't pillarbox it. IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A BETTER WAY FOR iMOVIE TO READ FINAL CUT HD FILES "16:9", PLEASE LET ME KNOW; if not, then what should I do about this exporting error?
