Compressor 4.1: exporting files to import into DVD Studio Pro

Hey folks,
Having issues trying to figure out how to generate both the .m2v  and the .ac3 files to import into my "legacy" application of DVD Studio Pro. I have separate projects all done...clients waiting... and ready to export from FCPX.
It seems that the only function that this new Compressor can do, is to build the files and then automatically build and burn a DVD. I need to create my own menus and chapters. I  USED to be able to do this in my older version of Compressor easily.
Am I stuck? I did not know that this version would act in this manner in the "upgrade". If I could...I'd rather have my older version back!

Select the job. In the Inspector choose When Finished, Do Nothing.
You will get the two elementary files saved to whatever location you specify. You can import those files into DVDSP.

  • Export from FCP directly into DVD studio pro?

Is it possible to export from FCP directly into DVD studio pro? If not, what is the preferred file format because my exported quicktime files come up as "incompatible format" when I try to add them into my DVD project. Any help is appreciated.

You need to encode audio as well from Compressor. You'll have 2 files - audio and video.

  • AAC audio file increase in size when imported into DVD Studio Pro

    Hello all!
I just encountered a very unique issue with the DVD Studio Pro. I used the compressor to export my video as an MPEG2 file and my audio as AAC file. After the compression my audio file had an .mpg4 extention and was about 160MB in size. When I imported it into my DVD Studio Pro project, however, the audio increased in size to 1.2 GB. I tried so many different compressions, but the problem really is (I think) that the file bumps up in size once imported into DVD SP project. Is there anything in preferences that I need to adjust or change? Please help!
    Thank you.

    Hi
I'm a little lost now with versions history, but if you have A.Pack in your App folder, then must use it. Check this tutorial: Encoding AC3 with A.Pack.
Compressor 2 and 3 has AC3 encoding inside the main application.

  • What kind of Macromedia Flash Files Can I Import into DVD Studio Pro 4 ?

    Hello there,
I have this silly question for you guys but I read
the Technical Specifications of DVD Studio Pro 4
    at this link
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/dvdstudiopro/specs.html
    it has under import
    ** Macromedia Flash 5 **
So I tryed to import a swf file into my project and I'm getting an incompatible file error message.
Do I have to do something with my flash file (ie: omit Action Script) or It's not posible to import a file from flash?
    thank you Very Much
    Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I am having the same issue. I am new to compressor and DVD studio so I don't know if I'm doing something wrong.
I just compressed a 20 minute video in the 90 minute best SD compressor format. The file name end with .compressor. When I try drag the file from the finder into the assets window of compressor, I get a dialog box that says: incompatible format. How annoying!

  • Exporting / Importing into DVD Studio Pro from Final Cut Pro

    Hi All,
I am am exporting footage from FCP HD and importing it into DVDSP, the final DVD will be set to 16:9. So what do I export my files from FCP as? Someone told me that I don't export it at 16:9, I export it so it's squashed and then DVD SP does it's thing to it...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
When I do this I work in FCP using a 16:9 format setting then export using Compressor. In Compressor I choose a best quality option and make sure the 16:9 setting is enabled in the settign dialog box (in the Batch window next to Source Media - just double click on setting).
In DVDSP you simply ensure the project is in PAL or NTSC and 16:9 format.
This takes care of the whole thing with the finished article paying back fine on 16:9 monitors.
    Best of luck

  • Exporting 16:9 file to quicktime and importing to dvd studio pro

Please help I am using final cut 7. I just exported a Dvd anamorphic movie file to quicktime file. The completed file is a 4:3 where the anamorphic image is squeezed. When I import into dvd studio pro to burn a dvd it stays as a 4:3 file and is then being encoded as 4:3.
When I exported the file  from final cut i used current settings ( as in my final cut audio video settings it is DV anamorphic)
How do I export retaining the 16:9 ratio?

In DVDSP, in the graphical view, click on the track to select it, and look at the the track inspector (menu View > Show Inspector). Make sure the track Display Mode is set to 16:9 Letterbox. This will play the track full screen 16:9 if played on a 16:9 TV, and will automatically letterbox it if played on a 4:3 TV.

  • Importing .ts files into DVD Studio Pro

    Hi,
I've downloaded a MPEG2 file which has a file extension of .ts
DVD Studio Pro and Compressor don't seem to like this file extension. Can anyone tell me the best way to get it into DVD SP please?
I tried importing it into MPEG Streamclip, but there doesn't seem to be a MPEG2 export option there.
    Any help much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Simon

It could be a muxed MPEG file, in which case, you'd need to use MPEG Streamclip to convert to and elementary MPEG-2 (.m2v) video file and an AC3 or AIF audio file. Import the resulting two files into DVD SP.

  • How can I import .mov file into dvd studio pro?

    Hi,
I have a .mov file and want to but a dvd with menu and chapters. But when I try to import the .mov file into dvd studio pro it says Incompatible format. How can I import my .mov file in to dvd studio pro?

    Two ways…
Transcode into a codec like Pro Res, import into DVDSP and let it do the encoding.
    Or better yet:
Import into Compressor, choose a DVD preset and let Compressor encode. It will make two files, separate video and audio files. Import those into DVDSP.
    Good luck.

  • Is it possible to import a .pdf or .doc file into DVD studio Pro 4?

When I finally finish my 2D animation for my Senior Project and finally make the DVD, I want to include the short story that the animation is based on to the DVD. I want to import it as .pdf or a .doc into DVD Studio Pro 4. What I want to know is, is if this is possible, or if is not, is there another acceptable file format that I can use if .pdf or .doc isn't possible?
    Message was edited by: obisgirl

Techincally you can create a link to take it to the file... but there are so many different software DVD players that it doesnt work with 90% of them so its pointless..
as for including your files on the DVD....
First make sure your files are all in one folder called DVD Content or something like that so they know its in that location
then in DVDSP at the top where all the icons are...
    hit build and format.
in the general tab you will see...
    Disc
    Source
    DVD-ROM Data
    destination
under DVD-ROM Data check the content box.
Choose the folder you have all your files in.
joliet extension support doesnt really matter but i always click it so that windows can identify better what file format it is.
    then continue building and formating.
let me know if that works or if you run into an issue.

  • Importing IMovie File into DVD Studio Pro 4

I used to be able to import the index file from an IMovie project into DVD Studio Pro quite happily.
Today the application freezes on the import progress window, with no files appearing in the asset window.
I have to force quit the application to get out of it.
Can anyone advise how to resolve this issue ?
    Power Mac G5 - Dual 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

If you haven't changed anything on your system, then it would appear that you have one of two things.
Most likely, your preference files have be come corrupt, or second, your Application or application resource file for DVD SP have become damaged.
Try first to toss your DVD SP preferences, if this doesn't do it, then you should uninstall DVD SP and then reinstall with all of the updates before trying again.
If you have tried creating a new project from scratch and the problem persists, then read on.
If that doesn't do it, then there's a very slight possiblility, that there may be an issue with the QucikTime files of the OS, and keep in mind, (this is a very remote possibility) you may have to wipe the drive and reinstall the OS and apps. from the original disks, but only after everything else fails, (THIS IS A DRASTIC LAST DITCH EFFORT.)

  • Screencam quality  imported into DVD Studio

Hi, I am relatively new to DVD Studio Pro,
and are currently developing a training DVD that utilises screen cams captured using IShowU. These have been captured using the Apple Intermediate Codec, transferred and edited in FCP , output via Compressor (have also tried QT Compression Export) using the DVD codec Best 90 minutes to generate the file for DVD Studio Pro.
They look great out of FCP and in QT but when they import to DVD Studio Pro the text is blurry, images have jagged edges. this only the case for the screencams. The Motion menus look great.
I have tried many compression types, different size screen capture settings and none really show much improvement. Am I missing something very fundamental?
    thanks for your help
    Mark

You can set your display to 640x480. That way you will not have any surprises, what you see is what you will get. If you work at a higher resolution, it will need to be converted down, so you will not know what it looks like until after compression.
An alternative which some people use is to work at a higher resolution. All of what they want to capture is in the upper left corner working down and right. They don't need the dock or anything on the far right of the screen. So they create a special background that has a 640x480 box that starts in the upper left corner. They then only work within that box and only capture within that box.

  • Importing subtitles into DVD Studio Pro 4 that were created FCP Studio 6

    Greetings!
So in all the DVD Studio Pro 4 documentation, I couldn't find any work flow that allowed you to create subtitles, via *Text or Boris 3D Titles* in Final Cut Pro Studio 6 and then export or import your work into DVD Studio Pro to be used in the subtitle fields... Is that possible?
After painstakingly entering in subtitles for a feature film line-by-line, timing them perfectly to picture and making them look beautiful with crisp-text & a slight drop-shadow... It would be wonderful to import those files (as graphics files? DVD Studio Pro can import those...) in our DVD for release, with optional subtitles-- Instead of making/encoding 2 versions; with & without subtitles.
What is the best way to export these files, created for the film subtitling in *Text or Boris 3D Titles* so that we can import them into DVD Studio Pro 4 subtitle tracks... Could they be exported with an Alpha Channel so that the background is transparent? And will this then be excepted into DVD Studio Pro 4 to be placed in the subtitle fields?
Please help us conquer this seemingly-necessary procedure... I would really hate to think that to achieve this task we'd have to re-enter, re-design & re-time ALL subtitles to make our DVD... All of your suggestions would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jason

OK-- I love that I've found a way to answer my own question on this forum (but actually I must credit my buddy James for finding out about 'TitleExchange Pro') It looks pretty cool and should do exactly what I've asked about: Exporting/ Importing subtitles made in FCP to DVD SP...
TitleExchange Pro is a unique tool which makes complicated things simple.
If you ever wished to get your titles out of FCP into DVDSP (or another DVD authoring application), get titles into FCP from another source like DVDSP or STL, or ceate a QT with all your FCP subtitles without the need of rendering (and get automatic selection of language) or just "equalize" your FCP titles TEP will be the right tool.
There's a slight catch but it might be worth it, if this works as well as it states...Cost 135 EUR:) You can download a limited demo version that works for 30 days & 50 titles...If anyone wants to give their feedback on this software, please post it here-- We'd all be interested.
Download & more information about this process at: http://www.spherico.de/filmtools/TitleExchange/
Also, check out this video tutorial on the product... It explains exactly how to do the task-at-hand... http://www.studiodaily.com/main/minisites/finalcutpro/f/mtutorials/6851.html
Hope this finds you all well--

  • Importing DVD media into DVD Studio Pro 4

    Hello all. Here's my quandy.
I recorded some material to a series of DVD's from Betacam masters. The DVD's were recorded on a Sony DVD recorder (dont' know the model off hand) on DVD-R media. I would like to import the material into DVD Studio Pro 4 so I can create a single disc containing all material.
For some reason I cannot import the files from the disc. I used the import command and received confirmation that files were imported but when I tried to play them in the preview window the clip would play for a couple of seconds and then stop cold.
I'm a novice here, so take that into account when telling me what stupid pilot error mistake I'm making. Deal? Thanks.
    Marc

    What Aldershot said...
If the DVD-R with your clips on was recorded and made into a disc that you can watch in a DVD player then you need to extract the MPEGs from the folders on that disc, which you can then import into DVDSP.
You need to use elementary streams - that is video and audio separate. If you are using MPG files it is likely that they are combined audio and video and will need splitting apart. MPEG Stream clip is one option, another is bbDEMUX which I tend to use more frequently. There are other tools available as well - hunt through Version Tracker or just google for them.

  • IMovei '11 .mov films into DVD Studio Pro 4

I am in the process of moving from iLife to Final Cut Studio Software. I still have some movies in iMovie '11, which I want to burn on DVD. As iDVD is in a non-workable state on my Mac I want to use DVD Studio Pro4. I export the movies using the "Export using Quicktime" option as DVD Studio Pro claims to be able to import any Quicktime movie. However, when I try to import, I get the message that the format is not supported.
Surely there's something I'm missing here. Can anybody shed some light on this matter?

    DVD SP does't do Blu-Ray.
If you have time to kill, do a search on the forum for hours of entertaining reading on this subject.
To create a DVD, use Compressor to generate the m2v and ac3 files needed by DVDSP to author a DVD.
Again, a search of this forum will turn up hundreds of threads - most of which are restating the process for authoring that is spelled out in the manual.
