Compressor 64-bit and compatibility

I want to use Compressor as part of my FCP workflow. However I have heard that there are crash problems. Is Compressor 4 now 64-bit and are there any alternatives you might recommend? I want to export movies to bespoke medium and small file sizes

So, Compressor is still 32 bit.
As to the stability of the app, you may be interested in what was posted here on a related question.
I think the expectations for FCP X and Compressor need to be different. X is still very early in the development stage while C4 is mature. I have only been using X in any serious way for a few months and even though the latest versions are reportedly a lot more stable than the earlier versions, I still get far more frequent crashes than I ever experienced using Final Cut Studio.
However, I have never had a Compressor crash of any sort…in C3, C3.5, or C4…and I use the software on a daily basis. The only issue I ever had with C4 was a cluster problem, which I was able to resolve.
As far as alternatives are concerned, here is one that's free. It ca do a few tricks that Compressor can't, but C.4 does more overall…and IMHO, can produce higher quality. You might also check out Toast, which is a little more expensive. A lot more expensive are Sorenson Squeeze and Telestream Episode; I believe both have trial versions.
Good luck.

the data server is also version 8
What type of client is compatible with oracle 8 and 64 bits?
or any solution to the problem.
I use the client to run a desktop application
    thanks

Oracle 8 client is not certified on Windows 7. Client 10.2.0.5 is compatible with Oracle 8 and is certified on Windows 7 too.

  • Compatibility between 32 bit and 64 bit of TimesTen

    Hi All,
Please tell me is there any document avialable to see compatibility between 32 bit and 64 bit of TimesTen ?
    Regards
    Pratheej

    Hi Pratheej,
    1. You cannot replicate between 32 and 64 bit TimesTen.
    2. For direct mode connections, the application must be the same 'bittedness' as TimesTen 932-bit app -> 32-bit TT, 64-bit app to 64-bit TT).
    3. For client/server connections a 32-bit app can work with both 32 and 64 bit TT. A 64-bit app can only use 64-bit TT.
If you want to deploy a 32-bit app using 64-bit TT on the same machine we have an optimised shared memory client/server connection (shmipc) mode. This is much faster than TCP or Unix sockets but is still much slower than direct mode.

  • Vista 64-bit and Treo 600 Hotsync solution that works!

I too searched many, many forums and sites for a solution to this problem. And I have found it.
I have an HP dv9260 laptop with Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and Office Pro 2007, which I bought in June this year. And I have been unable to sync my Treo 600 to it - until now. (I had even resorted to syncing to my older Toshiba Tablet PC (WinXP Pro, Office Pro 2003) via standard USB sync cable, connecting the Tablet to the new HP with a Belkin Easy Transfer cable, exporting my updated Contacts, Calendar, and InfoSafe records to .vcf, .ics, and .txt files, then transferring between the HP and Tablet, and then importing them into the appropriate app - Whew! man what a pain.
Now I have found a far more elegant and simple method. I found an Infrared USB 2.0 adaptor (dongle) at the Chunwai_1996 store on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-USB-2-0-IRDA-ADAPER-4Mbps-SUPPORT-VISTA_W0QQitemZ110164766509QQcmdZViewItem) for $8.33 USD + $5.67 USD S&H (total $14.00 even) (I believe that the price is now $12.49 USD + $5.67 S&H.) , which said it supported and supplied drivers for 64-bit Vista. It took a little over two weeks to receive the device from Hong Kong (received yesterday, 08-31-2007).
I checked the mini CD that shipped with it but found no Vista drivers. So I just plugged it into a USB port on the laptop. Vista immediately recognized the dongle and installed generic Vista 64-bit drivers from Microsoft. I tested the unit by placing the Treo near it. The unit recognized the Treo as a legitimate device! Next, I followed the directions I found in another thread that had been successful with USB 2.0, Vista 32-bit drivers, and the Treo 600, with one slight modification. Here is a repost from the Vista-Help.ca blog by Kerry Brown, verbatim except for a couple of modifications and few additional steps.
    =============================================
Palm Treo 600 with Vista and Office 2007
I've had a lot of people ask about how I got my Treo 600 phone to sync with Outlook 2007 in Vista so I thought I'd write up the procedure. Hopefully Palm will have new Vista compatible software soon but in the meantime here's how I got it working on two computers so far. First you have to use Vista x86. I couldn't get it to work with Vista x64. If you've already tried to get it working then you have to clean up all the leftover stuff before continuing.
    1. Uninstall Palm Desktop
    2. Insert the CD that came with the Treo but don't let it autorun.
    3. Navigate to the correct language folder on the Treo CD and right click on setup.exe
    4. Set the compatibilty for XP SP2 and Run as administrator.
    5. Run setup.exe
    6. During the install the initial sync may fail. Just tell the installation to continue.
    7. If you want to sync with Outlook make sure you pick this option during the install
    8. Once it's finished close the Hotsync System Tray application.
    9. In Windows Explorer go to the Palmone folder in Program Files.
    10. Right click hotsync.exe and set it to run in administrator mode with XP SP2 compatibility.
    11. Do the the same for palm.exe.
    12. Start the Palm Desktop and change the Hotsync settings to manual start.
-and- 12a. ******* Check the Infrared option to make it active and available *******
    13. Exit Palm Desktop and reboot.
You should now be able to sync the Treo 600 with Outlook 2007 or Palm Desktop. You will have to manually start the Hotsync application and deal with a uac prompt because it is set to run in administrator mode. The sync only works when Outlook is not running. You also have to sync twice. The first time you will get errors about the default folders for Outlook. Ignore the errors and press the sync button again. If it still doesn't work reboot and try it again. Good luck. Let me know if you find an easier procedure.
    =====================================================
After rebooting the laptop, I performed the following additional steps:
    A. Manually started the Hotsync app (you can put it in the Startup folder to auto load at Startup).
    B. Set the Custom options to "Desktop overrides Handheld" for Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and Notes - this may help avoid duplicates from the first Hotsync. Also, this is just a temporary override from the default setting "Synchronize the files" for each selection.
    C. Selected Hotsync on the Treo and enabled the Infrared option.
    D. Pressed the Hotsync 'button' on the Treo and placed it pointing at the Infrared dongle.
The Hotsync ran to completion without errors! Though it did take a good deal longer since it only runs at 115.2 kbps vs. the 480 Mbps of USB 2.0, I am happy.
Hope this helps others with Vista 64-bit systems and Palm OS handhelds.
    Cheers.

  • Win 7 64 bit and SB Titanium X-FI Drivers

Ok - sound dissapeared yesterday, replaced by some silly High Definition Audio Device driver that doesn't work that well at all. Sound driver pack 2.7 and the latest Beta can't find the card. Tried compatibility mode and tried running as Administrator - no joy. Even tried rolling back a week in case it was a windows update that was the problem, and still no luck. Moved the card to another PCI-E slot - still no luck.
I don't care if it's creative or MS - this is poor - I just spent over a grand upgrading a gaming system I built for 3 grand 2 years ago and this isn't meeting my expectations. Card has worked in the previous rig well (apart from a few shoddy driver releases) and in the new rig it's been working fine for about 2 months until last week. Only system changes have been installing Resident Evil 5, Ghostbusters, L4D2, the new version of VLC and yesterday the latest NVidia driver - unconfirmed if the sound was working before that or not, but the microphone dropped off about a week prior.
For the time being i'm running back to onboard sound (yuk) awaiting direction, but i've been through the posts of the many people who have had the same problems and while running as administrator has worked for some of them - I note that as for myself, it hasn't worked for all of them.
Card unable to be detected via driver installer, auto-updater (admin, compat or otherwise - even the AutoUpdateA file)

-Re: Win 7 64 bit and SB Titanium X-FI Drivers? Sorry - no go - uninstalled the Creative apps and drivers again, uninstalled the MS High Definition Audio Device however it won't let me remove it's driver files (assuming as it's a nati've driver). Every time I uninstall it it wants to restart, every time I restart it's back again immediately. If I uninstall and don't restart, or even if I do, there's NO change to the MS Windows Update results even when forcing a recheck. I'm really stuck.
If I try to li've with the MS HDAD driver with the Li've Titanium in the PC, if I plug anything into the front, to doesn't detect it's there - if I place anything in the back same again. If I remove the headphones it seems ready to accept something? . It's all back to front.
The only time I could get the MS HDAD driver to do anything was with the onboard sound device turned on and the Titanium X-FI removed. Please note that no driver other than the MS HDAD has been loaded on the system for the onboard sound and it is definately turned off at this stage and during testing the X-FI.
I'm going to have a play in Safe Mode, but currently all roads lead to fail.

  • 3 versions of Adobe Photoshop on my computer Adobe PS (64 bit) and Adobe PS CC 2014 and Adobe PS CC

I'm new to all of this CC business.  Can anyone tell me why there are 3 versions of Adobe Photoshop on my computer Adobe PS (64 bit) and Adobe PS CC 2014 and Adobe PS CC. Thanks,

They are different versions and provided to offer a maximum level of compatibility in case anyone uses plug-ins or peripherals that may not be compatible with the latest 2014 version. Feel free to remove unneeded/ unwanted stuff if you don't fall into that category. Otherwise just leave everything in place - uninstalling and potential reinstalls could make more of a mess than freeing up a gigabyte on your harddrive may be worth...

  • Where's the music on iTunes, and what's with the quality and compatibility?

I'm just curious as to whether anyone else has had this issue or not: Does anyone else feel like, after searching for specific songs, there's just little to nothing in the database? I feel like most of my searches are pointless because iTunes has either no data of my requested search and/or only has bits and pieces of it.
Another question I have: After having a slightly successful search, why am I left with low quality tunes? I mean, you can hear the compression... badly. (I know it's not my speakers)
Last question: If I'm paying for the song, shouldn't I be allowed to download a universal file? iTunes uses a unique format that no other application uses. In other words, more money has to be spend for m4a to mp3 converters (unless you're a cracker [not a racial comment]).
To me, I value iTunes and its team, so I'm sorry if I've offended anyone. I understand there are contracts involved with the artists and it's hard to please ALL of the subscribers. But seriously, where's the music on iTunes, and what's with the quality and compatibility?
Custom   Windows XP Pro   Negative, I am a meat popsicle.

Today I thought of finally putting lyrics on my songs. So I've been quite some time busy doing that, then I tried it on my iPad (2) and I can't find them. Just as the people above say. Then I went to search where I can find them and I found this page. I'm really dissapointed and I don't understand how something like this could happen. So I hope Apple will fix this soon.

  • What's the deal with 32 bit and chroot?

I've read all over the place about chroot and 32 bit libraries or something, and I'm wondering if that's something that would be helpful for 64 bit systems for 32 bit compatibility.
I guess I just want to know what that is.
    Last edited by z.s.tar.gz (2009-09-05 11:30:55)

Basically, 64-bit can run 32-bit executables (the reverse doesn't work, however). The problem is, all non-trivial executables have to reference libraries, and libraries differ between 64-bit and 32-bit. Some distros, like Ubuntu, use a multilib system, where there's two sets of libraries. Some apps behave better with this sort of setup than others.
A chroot is basically a 'virtual root'. You'd probably know that in linux everything is done relative to a root filesystem. So, for example, an app who wants libraries will default to searching in /lib or /usr/lib. In a chroot, you'd define a folder in your filesystem (/opt/arch32 for example) to be the root of the install. Meaning that all the executables run inside that chroot (via schroot or whatever) will see /opt/arch32/lib as /lib. That way, all apps will run as if they were natively running on 32-bit, no need for a multilib system.

  • Separate GPO for 32-bit and 64-bit machines?

Before I give myself a whole load of work wanted to confirm this either way...
We're imaging both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 this summer (x86 for app compatibility and x64 for Adobe CS6 etc). So far I've made a full working policy for x86 but now need to do x64.
When I created the initial policy on a 32-bit machine the ZCM console automatically seems to add a requirement of Architecture = 32-bit which suggests the policy can only be used on that version of the OS - do I need to create a separate x64 policy from scratch or can the x86 GPO be applied (and work consistently and be supported) on the x64 machines?

Yes unfortunately you have to create your policies with the bit version of
the OS. So you have to do it with a 32bit and 64bit machine.

  • OID 10gR3 full version number and compatibility

I am a bit confused about the OID version and compatibility. Can anyone help?
Siteminder r12 is compatible with OID 10gR3 as per Siteminder compatibility matrix.
When I try to find OID version number and in turn its compatibility with Operating system and database, I am finding it hard to understand which version I should be looking for when I want to use OID 10gR3 (e.g. is it 10.1.4.0.1 or 10.1.4.1 or 10.1.4.2 etc)
There is no clear documentation providing this information. From one of the documents (www.oracle.com/technology/.../internet_directory_wp_10gr3.pdf) it seems it is 10.1.4.2
However when I goto download site it only has 10.1.4.0.1.
Also, as per certification matrix of OID 10.1.4 it says it is compatible with OEL5, whereas after downloading 10.1.4.0.1 it fails to install complaining that it needs Red Hat Linux 3 or 4.
Need you help to understand this.
    Thanks,

The Base line version is 10.1.4.1.0, all others are patches. The latest being 10.1.4.3.0, which can be downloaded via MOS (formerly known as Metalink).
10G release 3 is marketing speak; 10.1.4.1 thru 10.1.4.3 are all 10G Release 3 (but different patchlevels. Guess you can speak of OID 10G release 3 patch 2, when you mean OID V10.1.4.3.0 - technicians tend to use versions).

    Question:
So, is there any way we can install the 32 bit version of this ?  While 64 bit is still there ?
Concern with installing the 32 bit library, is that something picks it up mistakenly when it expects the 64 bit version.
Edited by: sgaraga on Jun 8, 2012 4:39 PM

You can run 32-bit software under a x86-64 OS provided you install the necessary x86 (32-bit) libraries.
The x86_64 CPU is fully backwards compatible with Intel x86 16-bit and 32-bit code. Because the full x86 16-bit and 32-bit instruction sets remains implemented in hardware without any intervening emulation, existing x86 executables run with no compatibility or performance penalties (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86-64)
An application that is 32-bit or 64-bit will have to be linked or share the appropriate library. 32-bit and 64-bit libraries won't be confused because they use different names.

  • CS5 64 bit and 32 bit versions

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I didn't find anything when I searched.
I've just bought a new 64 bit PC and intend to upgrade from CS3 to CS5. However, my laptop is 32 bit. My question is, does CS5 come with both 64 bit and 32 bit on the same disk?
    Thanks for any help.

Yes.  The default for a 64 bit system is for Photoshop to install both 32 and 64 bit software, and you want both so as to maintain compatibility with old plug-ins.

  • Creation of Add-on package for 64 bit and 32 bit SAP Business One Client

Please help me creating package for 64 bit and 32 bit SAP Business One. If Add-on executable is compiled with x86 option then there is no issue of connecting Add-on with 32 bit SAP Business one and if Add-on executable is compiled with Any CPU option then there is no issue of connecting Add-on with 64 bit SAP Business one. Problems are mentioned as below
    1. My Add-on uses MS ACCESS connection and the connection is read using Jet OLEDB 4.0 provider. It works fine for x86 compile mode but not when compile mode is Any CPU. I searched for the issue on Google and found a solution to change MS ACCESS connection provider to ACE.OLEDB.12.0 but again ACE provider is installed according to the Office version i.e. 32 bit or 64 bit office suite. If I install 32 bit ACE provider then Add-on executable compiled with x86 version is working fine but with Any CPU option throws error as provider is not registered on current machine.
    2. Secodly, our license validation activex dll is build using vb 6.0 and therefore when Add-on executable is compiled using Any CPU option, Add-on EXE cannot read from license dll. Any suggestion, how the activeX dll can be compiled whose component can be created from for X86 compiled exe and any cpu compiled exe.
Please help because we are stuck in this issue and cannot move forward.
    Thanks.

    Hi Alejandro,
That is one solution but did your add on used ms access connection? if you used Jet oledb to connection string or ace oledb connection string? what if 32 bit office is installed and what if 64 office is installed? how did you found the office version in install script? after determining the office version how did you installed Microsoft redistributable for ace oledb (32 bit or 64 bi )?
I am sorry that I asked many questions but these are the problems where I am stuck with the addon installer?

  • Install sqldeveloper on windows 7 64 Bit and Oracle 11.2

    Hi,
how can I find the rigth jdk. I installed JDK on C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_23.
I installed Oracle 11.2 including sqldeveloper. But I cannot find the correct folder to start sqldeveloper.
Where can I find this path?
When I include a path with java.exe I get the error "Unable to find a Java Virtual Machine. To point to a locacion of a Java Virtual Machine, pleaser refer to the Oracle9i Jdeveloper Install guide (jdev\install.html)" Where can I find this?
    Thank you for your help
    Siegwin

I am on Windows 7 64 bit. I see that installing Oracle 11.2 database installs SQL Developer also but that doesn't work. I get the .bat file not found crap. What I then did was do a seperate install of SQL Developer for 64 bit, but that does NOT install the jdk.
I then did the java install from:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk-6u25-download-346242.html
    I selected: jdk-6u25-windows-x64.exe
I then point to the java.exe where this install loaded it (c:\program files\Java\jdk1.6.0_25\bin when I start up sql developer and it still gives the same error. I delete the SetJavaHome value in the sqldeveloper.conf file and try again over and over but it still gives the same error.
So, I have windows 7 - 64 bit operating system. I have Oracle 11.2 database installed. I have a seperate installation of SQL Developer 64 bit and I have the java jdk for 64 bit installed.
Nothing is working. Can anyone please steer me in the correct direction? Should I delete the second install of SQL Developer 64 bit and to an install of SQL Developer 32 bit?

  • CC, CC 64 Bit, and CC 2014? WTF?

It's bad enough Adobe can't figure out how to make the same features in one program work the same in a different program. To top it off, instead of improving what are now "apps" and integrating we now have more new programs to do the same thing (e.g. not just one for website creation, not just one for photos, not just one for illustrations, not just one for animation, etc...) and to top it off again they get rid of important programs like Soundbooth, and stop upgrading ones we need like Encore. I am beginning to think the CC is for Creative Chaos not Creative Cloud....
So, I uninstalled my CS5 master suite finally and moved presumably up to CC. But, now do I not only have more than one program to do the same thing more now I also have 3 of each! Wow! That's STUPID. Sorry, I hate using that word, but what in the hell?
Why is it when I go to my programs I have a CC version, a CC 64 bit, and now new to the Creative Chaos we have CC 2014 versions!!!!          What? Really? Someone, please help me maintain my sanity. Before I realized it I was using Premiere CC then I inadvertantly started using CC 2014. Then I was like "something is missing, oh, wait, what? there's more than one version of premiere in CC???" Then I realized "oh, there's 3 of Illustrator, Photoshop, and inDesign?
I of course have a 64 bit system, so should I only use the 64 bit versions and just delete the shortcuts to the others? and when there isn't a 64bit version but instead just a CC and a CC2014 version, which do I use? I mean, I assume the CC 2014. But, in 2014 will something change, will I be like "damn it, I should have been using the CC not the CC2014"?
Adobe, please clean up all your software, boil it down to just the ones we need, we don't need more than one program to do THE SAME THING. and once you boil it down, don't give us three versions of it, ask "do you want the 64 bit version or the 32" and we'll be happy to download precisely what we need. Or better yet, figure out a way to make it work with one program. And, of course while you're at it combine the CC and CC XXXX version of each, WTF???

32bit programs are installed for those people who use plugins that have not been updated to 64bit
CC and CC2014 have different source code bases, so they are different programs
