Compressor and Quicktime Pro?

I have a copy of Final Cut Studio 1 that upgraded to but for various reasons have not used since. I finally want to get going with it again but find that compressor will not launch. The other apps seems OK just compressor.
Am I still supposed to have Quicktime Pro. I notice that my version of quicktime 7 is not Pro. As I got the crossgrade to FCP Studio I didn't any documentation so I cannot look this up.
As I was a user of FCP in previous iterations I did have Quicktime Pro but I know the earlier number wont work with the current version is there an upgrade path for Quicktime that goes with the Pro Apps or do I have to purchase it again?

QuickTime Pro is automatically activated when you install Final Cut Studio.
I would recommend reinstalling Final Cut Studio.
1. Download FCS Remover
2. Remove Final Cut Studio
3. Reinstall Final Cut Studio

Compressor and Quicktime crippled

I am sitting here rather bewildered about the lack of speed in Compressor and Quicktime Pro 7 in regards to outputting a file to an iPod file at 640 x 480. 4 hours or more to compress 43 minutes of video? This is crazy considering that these applications are supposed to be "Native" to the intel chip now. I am using a new core2duo 17 inch laptop.
Talk about slow...I bought new equipment and software for this type of speed. I cannot help but wonder if th speed to the iPod setting was crippled so that we would buy more iPod TV episodes from iTunes.
Anybody have any methods for faster compression? I have tried the export from FCP to a self-contained movie. I then tried the compressor mode for the iPod, but changed the movie into a 640 x 480 standard. That is a little faster, but not much. I also tried the same thing in Quicktime, but that seemed just as slow.

The reason why it takes so long, is because H.264 is extremely demanding. 4 hours for 43 minutes sounds pretty normal to me.
What you could do, is to use MPEG-4 instead of the default iPod preset which uses H.264. Just select the iPod preset and change the codec from iPod for H.264 to MPEG-4.
iPod can play the following video formats:
H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Low-Complexity Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

Assuming you purchased QT Pro, you can always download it again at no extra charge by logging in to your Apple account.
Regarding FCE, there is no way to download & install the product. You need an original FCE install disk and your FCE serial number.
Final Cut Pro X (aka FCPX) can be purchased & downloaded from the App Store.

Logic Pro 9 Compressor and Soundtrack Pro

Hi,
I have recently installed Mackeeper in my iMac. After everything I opened Logic Pro and it couldn't open. So I thought it could be an issue from Mackeeper, I requested a help from them and they asked me to send my report and I sent to them. Later on I was recommended to uninstall the logic pro, so when I reinstalled the logic pro the following components Compressor and Soundtrack Pro were deselected, it was in gray and I couldn't find out how to install it. The other issue is that the installation was successfully completed without installing the Logic Studio Audio Contents 1,2,3 and Demo Content was also not installed
Is there anything wrong I did?

Interesting; and who would have thought ! What does Logic and FCP have to do with each other being installed. I have FCP running (w./ all) and Logic Pro 9 and perhaps your Logic Studio 2 is not the same. I have no idea.
I'm hoping that I can export the LPro files into FCP ez along with exporting them to WAV or formats that a PC can use; if anyone has heard of problems with that. ?

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

Compressor and Soundtrack Pro not installing even if Final Cut isn't there

I have a problem installing Compressor and Soundtrack Pro that I don't know how to solve.
The "read me" note of the software says, "Warning: Soundtrack Pro 3 and Compressor 3.5 contain updated components that are incompatible with Final Cut Studio 2 or earlier. If the Logic Studio installer detects Final Cut Studio 2 or earlier on your system, it automatically deselects the checkboxes for Soundtrack Pro and Compressor in the Custom Install pane."
Problem is, I've never had Final Cut Studio installed and the installer still deselects Compressor and Soundtrack Pro, and I cannot find a way to install them.
I'm using a new MacBook Pro and everything is up to date on it. I haven't installed much of anything else on this machine either.
Can anyone help?

Iphone 4 retina and Quicktime "pro" 7 not compatable? *** !

I am disgusted that apple would sell quicktime pro (7) and advertise that it works for the iphone when the iphone 4 has been out for a year now and QT7 does NOT support the retina display resolution (920 x 640). Only the much older lower resolutions are supported for the iphone 4. Also the h264 compressor apple uses is just terrible. Heck even Videora has a far better H264 compressor and its free !

In all honesty, Convert your mov files with Videora for free and they will look 10 x better than any quicktime "pro" version, do not ever purchase quicktime pro as it is a complete waste of your money and amounts to nothing more that a THEFT of your monies ! You are obviously using the built-in preset options and not custom settings. You are forgetting that Apple's primary purpose when creating pre-sets is to ensure compatibility. These options are programmed for multi-generation devices and, only support, the quality/settings that are compatible with the least capable device. As such, the TV preset is limited to 960x540 display resolution at 30/29.97 fps and a maximum video data rate of 5.0 Mbps. In a similar manner, the iPhone pre-set is limited to 1620 macroblocks/frame (usually a 720x480 or 720x576 max matrix) and 1.0 Mbps video data to maintain compatibility with all previous iPhone models. If you want to make the most of your device's particular capabilities, then either use custom settings or chose a different device pre-set whose output more closely matches what you want to use on your device if you want to use QT 7 Pro to perform your conversions. If you want to use a different converter, than, by all means, feel free to do so. However, since the source of your problem is in your work flow and not the product, I was merely attempting to point out the fact that your previous comments were unjustified.
As far as editing softwares and hardwares go I have everything from autodesk flame/ inferno down to pro and everything in between. Again please respond to my simple question only, why does qt7 not support the latest iPhone 4 higher retina display resolution? As opposed to older lower resolutions.
Let's hope you fully know how to take advantage of all of these hardware/software devices/applications. If you really feel Apple should support each device and generation of device with a separate entity pre-set as created and sold since being released, then contact Apple HERE and register your total dissatisfaction regarding each and every product not to your liking. I might agree in some instances. For transcoding, I tend to prefer the X.264 codec with custom settings for more extensive analysis, better vector motion detection/rendering, removal of duplicated frames when applying detelecine, and a limited combined deinterlace/decomb filtering option. However, try aging, masking, layering, blending, picture-in-picture/picture-with-picture, and similar compositing options in a "free" utility.

Since I have installed Macos 1.7 (Lion) several programms have been removed from my HD: Compressor 3.5, Sountrack Pro and my favourite Quicktime 7. Do any of you have the same experience and do you know how to 'get these pgrms back?

I haven't heard stories so far of Lion completely removing apps. I heard that Lion analyzes which apps are not compatible with Lion any longer (e.g. because they are PowerPC apps and need Rosetta to run). If Lion finds any of those apps, it moves them into a folder called "Incompatible Software" (see here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3258)
If they are incompatible, they should be there. I don't know about SoundTrack Pro and don't have a Lion machine currently with both SoundTrack Pro or Compressor and Lion. But from what I heard on the internets, Compressor 3.5 should still work. I would try to re-install it from your installation DVDs. I can't think of any reason why they should not run under Lion.

QuickTime Movie Files Won't Convert For iPod using iTunes and QuickTime Pro

I've got a ton, and I mean a ton of QuickTime movie files of music videos that I want to convert to use on the iPod. I tried using "Convert Selection For iPod" in the Advanced Menu on iTunes, but got the following message trying convert a QuickTime file of U2's Beautiful Day:
""Beautiful Day" could not be converted because this file does not allow for saving or conversion."
I purchased QuickTime Pro hoping that the features on Pro would convert the file. When I opened the same file to convert using QuickTime Pro, "Export" under the file menu was grayed out so I couldn't select it.
You'd think that an APPLE QuickTime Movie file that can be played on APPLE'S iTunes and APPLE'S QuickTime Player would be able to be converted to be used in APPLE'S iPod player. (Anybody notice how APPLE is capitalized to point out that the the hardware, software and file formats are ALL Apple?)
Instead I wasted money buying QuickTime Pro when it won't do what I specifically bought it for. Now I have all these QuickTime files which won't play on the iPod.
Can anybody provide some help or assistance on how to accomplish what I'm trying to accomplish???

If the file doesn't allow saving or conversions then it is protected by DRM (Fairplay).
Nothing can help QuickTime Pro convert protected files.

Final Cut Pro HD and Quicktime Pro????

Can anyone tell me if I need to have Quicktime Pro in order to be able to edit movie files in FCP HD?
The Quicktime files I have in my Capture Scratch are on an external hardrive and WERE CAPTURED FROM A COMPUTER USING QUICKTIME PRO. My Powerbook has Quicktime 7.0.4 and when I try to play the capture scratch media, it plays for a second and then stops. It's impossible to edit in FCP HD as well.
Any expertise would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks for any help.

You don't need QT PRO in order to edit with FCP. All QT PRO is is unlocked features of QT, the ability to export footage in multiple formats, download QT Movies and add filters to movies you open.
If something was captured with a machine with QT Pro you should be able to edit them fine. It depends on what format the files are that you are trying to edit.
FYI, movies captured with QT generally don't work in FCP. They aren't an editable format. They are mpeg-2 or h.264 which are meant for direct web posting or DVD burning, but not editing in FCP. If you want to capture footage for editing, capture using FCP.

Audio Video Hardware and QuickTime Pro

I recently purchased an "Eyeball" camera/mic device from Blue. I was told it is excellent. Now I need to know if QuickTime Pro will complete the circuit - so to speak.
The physical connection is from the unit to an USB port. What drivers (yes, it's Windows Vista). Will it work with QTPro 7?

The Windows version of QuickTime Pro can't record video (audio only and only from a few types of cameras).
The Mac version of the Pro upgrade can record audio and video from most Firewire connected cameras and the built in USB connected iSight camera found on most desktop models.

Can someone tell me the status of QuickTime and QuickTime Pro?

I am very confused about the current status of QuickTime as an ongoing software. I am speaking of QuickTime on the Mac.
If I double-click on a video (.mov) on my hard drive, it plays with QuickTime Player 10.2 (603.12).
If I try to play some videos in iTunes (.mpg files, and maybe others), I get a pop-up window saying "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes."
I also have Quicktime Pro Player 7 [version 7.6.6 (1709)]. Which also lists itself QuickTime Version 7.7.1 (2599.24).
What is the difference between Pro Player 7 and QuickTime Player 10.2? My understanding is that Pro 7 has many more export options and is a more powerful program. But is it still current? Or has it been abandoned?

It sounds like with 7, there was Quicktime version whatever, and you could upgrade to Pro. Then they branched off and kept upgrading QT, but leaving Pro behind. When they did this, they incorporated many of Pro's features into the newer QT versions, but, apparently they left out some codecs that Pro supports.
That's basically correct.
Why did they leave out those codecs? Why didn't they just march forward with future QT versions and include everything?
We don't know, being just fellow users. QuickTime X is a completely new architecture, so perhaps they just didn't feel that recoding the older codecs was worth the time given their future plans for QuickTime, but all anyone of us here can do is guess.
You say there have been many updates to Pro over the years, but are they still updating it?
Apple continues to update QuickTime X, but has not released an update to QuickTime Player 7 in many months now.

ATI Radeon X1950 Pro video card and Quicktime Pro

In an earlier thread, I found out that the reason Quicktime Pro was not working on my new computer is that Apple has not yet worked out incompatibilities with QT Pro and new nVidia video cards. Since I need the QT Pro to do my movie editing work, I am going to switch to another high end video card. Does anyone know if an ATI Radeon X1950 Pro video card works with QT Pro? If not, is there another high-end card that someone can recommend?

I'M WANTING TO WATCH OLD STREAMING BROADCASTS FROM OHIO WESLEYAN WEBSITE. UPGRADED TO QUICKTIME PRO LAST NIGHT. CAN'T GET THESE ARCHIVED EVENTS TO OPEN IN PRO(WANT TO WATCH A FULL SCREEN).
