Compressor crashes after attempting to apply settings to large batch
I am trying to batch transcode hundreds of MP4 video files at once using Compressor 3. After importing the media files, I attempt to apply a single setting to all files and Compressor crashes. Not only does it crash, but I lose all of my presets with seemingly no way of recovering them.
I had the same thing a few weeks ago. Super annoying. After a frustrated search I found this:
User(you)/Library/Application Support/Compressor/History
Quit Compressor -> Delete the contents of that History Folder -> Empty the trash. Seems that Compressor refuses to do a job twice! If there is just o n e film you already compressed in that History folder, Compressor just won't do the entire batch! Worse - you have to start clicking all over again. UGH...

Compressor crash when attempting import files with 00* in name
I produce several short video files every day and name them using a sequential five digit numerical naming convention.
I'm finding that whenever I'm near, at or shortly after crossing a 100 mark Compressor crashes when I try and import single files with the following filenames (these are the most recent examples):
20993
21000
21001
21005
The only way to import these problematic files is to select the file before, or after, then Command click on the filename causing the crash. Click Open to import both into the batch, and then click on the file I first clicked on and hit Delete to remove it from the batch, leaving the file with the problematic name.
For Example. I want to import 21005 into Compressor for processing, but every time I try and import it Compressor crashes. So I re-launch Compressor, click the little Q button and click on 21004, then press Command and click on 21005. Click Open, import window goes away to reveal the Batch window. Click on 21004, press Delete button on keyboard leaving me with the file that was causing the crash.
FWIW apart from the file duration/size, there's no difference between these files. In fact I can change the names and the files that used to import fine now crash Compressor when attempt to import with any of the filenames above.
Here's the info behind two of the problem files and also that of the two adjacent files that import fine:
(all files: Dimension: 720 x 480. Codecs: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC. Channel Count: 2. Kind: Final Cut Pro Movie File. No color labels.

21001 (Compressor Crasher):

Mac OS X 10.4.8Hello,
Thanks for the replies/info.
Yes the Panther and Jaguar install disks are retail versions, not specific machine versions. And the Jaguar ones worked for the Powerbook before.
The Powerbook I have is the Firewire 500mhz one, Pismo I think it's called. The hard drive is a 60GB one. I didn't have to partition it before.
Reviewing all the above, it would appear that the problem is me not being able to use an internal, built in CD/DVD drive to install from this time? The only other thing it could be I think is the crash I recently had has had some bad effect -- but that's unlikely right? So, I need to get a new DVD drive? Or is there any other way to get the OS onto the Powerbook without getting another internal DVD/CD drive? Is there anyway to install onto the PB from another machine maybe?
Does that sound right?: not being able to use internal DVD/CD drive is the source of my current problem?
Thanks. -
HT4714 Compressor crashing after update to 4.1
Compressor is crashing on my macbook pro (mavericks) after 4.1 update. this happens from within iMotion5 as well as when using as stand alone app.
If it's still crashing:
Assuming Compressor is closed: Go to your Home Library by holding down the option key after clicking Go in the Finder toolbar. Open Application Support and drag the Compressor folder to the trash. (Depending on what you've done in the past, you may want to save copies of the Layouts and Settings folders.)

Compressor crashing, after update
I just did the newest update or compressor, and now I cannot get it to open. Each time I try, I get the splash screen, then it crashes. I tried to throw away prefs, but did not help. Anyone have an idea on this, or is this a known problem?

IPad crashed after attempting to install iOS 5.1
I attempted to update my iPad to iOS 5.1. When I did, I got a blue screen. I can not start my iPad, and it appears to have crashed. It won't even start up enough to restore. Any ideas?
I tried that. The iPad doesn't boot up enough for iTunes to recognize the iPad. I get an apple for a few seconds, and then the blue screen (sometimes green). The only way I can get the iPad to start/shutdown is to hard boot it too. Sometimes I get a line through the screen before it goes blue. The iPad was working great until I attempted the update.

My Adobe Flash plug in is still crashing. I first attempted the Update Flash. It worked for a day before it started crashing again. So I went back to the page and attempted the 2nd solution of downgrading flash to 10.3. Again it worked for a day or two but now is giving me the same issue. I am getting extremely frustrated.
Thank you. I uninstalled both and reinstalled 11.5. It is working currently. Hopefully it will continue!

IPod crashes after attempting to play a video or song!
Alright, I was watching a video on my iPod, when suddenly is freezes and starts making a screeching noise. I reset it, and tried to play it again. All I get is a black screen. I reset it again, and tried to play a different video. Same result. Then after resetting it again, I tried to play a song, and the same thing happens. I tried to play some games, and the default games work fine, but the games downloaded from iTunes don't work. So I restore the iPod in iTunes, and that worked out fine, but when I tried to sync my iPod, Windows says that it can't save it to E:iPod and try saving it somewhere else. I had never had this problem until the iPod stuffed up. Can someone please tell me what is going on, and how it can be fixed?!?

I am quite new at Logic and have two questions:
1
When I bounce a Logic project to iTunes, I have no problem listening to the song on my computer - in iTunes. But when i sync my iPod and then click on the song there, the iPod 'crashes' (needs rebooting) - and when it's ready again, nearly all the battery power has gone.
I have tried most of the options when bouncing ... aiff, wave, mp3, m4p etc ... all of which give the same result.
Sounds like a F^&*ed up iPod. IMO.
2
How come the 2,000 page Logic manuals - as far as I know - never touches upon the subject of mastering?
Because Logic is mainly used to create music / post production. Not so much for mastering. The guys who created Logic are not mastering engineers..but musicians.
If you want to master with Logic, you CAN. Go get a good book on mastering... there's a few out there.

Compressor crashes after Surcode install
Hi
Could anyone throw some light on this?
I Have just installed Compressor 4. I did a test "add surround sound" action where you identify the stems.... a 5.1 set of waves bounced out of Logic.
I have just installed Surcode DTS-HD for Compressor. My aim right now is to make CD-DTS files.
Now when I add the surround sound sources Compressor 4 will crash as I complete the stem selection.
Any ideas?
Regards
MarkHi David
Ok I hear you. This was the complete statement from Minnietonka (below).
I may have been misleading saying Compressor 4 is 64 bit. What I am being told is that it only supports 64 bit plugins (?).
Anyway... It looks like the bottom line is that for whatever reason Surcode will not work with Compressor 4 currently. And I have no way to encode DTS for surround CD or streaming.
Regards
Mark
Thousands of third party plug-ins and many DAWs are licensed by PACE Anti-Piracy Technology. Some utilize their iLok dongle technology and others the challenge/response technology. I don't think this is actually the issue.
I just re-visited the crash logs that you had supplied to me last week, and realized that you are running Compressor 4.
Compressor 4 supports 64 bit plug-ins only. SurCode Encoder and Decoder for DTS-HD are 32 bit plug-ins which is why they are not supported in compressor 4.
The reason that Compressor 4 was crashing on you was the fact that PACE did not support 64 bit licensing until the recent release of PACE Fusion for AAX software development. For our plug-in to support Compressor 4, and other 64 bit architectures, it would have to be completely re-coded.
Note: The product page on the Minnetonka Audio Web Store states that SurCode for DTS-HD for Compressor is only supported in Compressor 3 and is not supported in Compressor 4.

IPhoto crashes after attempt to import photos
While trying to import a bunch of photos from my camera's SD card, iPhoto crashed and continued to crash every time I try to reopen iPhoto. Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store -
Crash after attempting to import media
I just purchased elements 9, and I tried importing media from my DV camera. Every single time I did that, I got some crazy looking error. I have included screenshots of the error.
The page these images are on was a page I was looking at to try and figure out where the crashes are coming from. I had already contacted customer support, and they said uninstall and reinstall everything. So, I did that and still the same thing.
I have a Windows platform, XP, AMD Phenom II X3 720 processor, 2.81 Ghz, 2 GB RAM,
I don't know what other information might be relevant, but this editor is essentially worthless if I can't import media from my camera.Well officially you should be able to run with 1GB (2GB for HD editing), but empirical evidence shows that that is quite unrealistic. A minimum 4GB RAM + Quad-Core processor and multiple fast hard disks are pretty much essential for AVCHD editing.
But feed it DV-AVI Type 2 files and PRE on 2GB ought to work for you, especially if you work through Clean, Lean & Mean Editing Machine - One Workflow.
And in case you haven't seen the basic tips:
Install all Windows Updates.
Install latest version of Apple QuickTime (v7.6.8 at time of writing). Even if you don't use QuickTime, PRE relies heavily on it.
Install most recent graphics and sound drivers from the manufacturers web sites.
Run Disk Cleanup.
Run Defragmenter.
Temporarily disable any anti-virus realtime scanning.
Cheers,
Neale

Computer crash after attempting to install SP2!!?!
Hello, I have a question for you all because I've been encountering problems all day with this "service pack 2" that's needed for the iPod touch...when I tried to install it earlier, it crashed my computer (windows XP) and I ended up on the phone with Dell tech support for several hours..ended up having to re-install XP and all this other stuff, but it almost blew out the whole hard drive!
Anyway, I'm worried that if I try to install the pack again, the same thing will happen...also, I'm worried that if I do get the pack to install, I'm going to have to re-install iTunes (I do have the newest version available now) and I will lose all of my music from my mini. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks ahead of time!If your iPhone has entered recovery mode, all content has already been erased. All you can do is complete by following the instructions for use of recovery mode in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

Photoshop CS 5 crashes after updating and then using File -- Automate -- Batch
I am running Photoshop CS5 (build 12.0.4 x32) on my XP 32-bit machine and have done so without major problems until about a week ago.
Then all of a sudden when accessing File --> Automate --> Batch the program crashes and I have to force it shutting down manually after which I can restart Photoshop. When trying to access the batch command hereafter the same crash reappears rendering batch commands useless.
I thought about posting here but then decided to reinstall Photoshop again. This enables the fully working software including batch commands once again. However after a short while the update software asks to download and install some patches for all programs. After doing so the same problem happens again in regards to the batch command. Photoshop crashes when accessing it and won't work at all.
I now repeated this procedure twice and have no idea what to do about it.
Is there anybody that has had this experience or knows about a solution?
Do I have to contact Adobe with an error report?
Any help and comment is welcome and mostly appreciated.Chris Cox wrote:
Yes, a change in the Adobe update made the existing scanner bug show up more frequently. No, that does not make your statement correct. The bug exists in the scanner driver, and existed before the Adobe update.
The Adobe update is not the cause of the bug, it just made some unrelated change that made the bug appear more frequently. That could be something as simple as putting different values in different locations of memory. We don't know. Only the authors of the scanner driver can know for sure why it is crashing more often now.
Photoshop supports the TWAIN standard, but cannot be responsible for the bugs in the third party drivers that attempt to implement that standard.
The high frequency of bugs in TWAIN drivers is what made us move the TWAIN plugin to "optional" status in the first place -- because too many people were crashing, had a hard time figuring out the cause, and blamed Adobe for something completely beyond our control.
And we already do inform scanner vendors about all the bugs we find in their drivers. But we cannot force them to fix their bugs, nor can we know the nature of all of their bugs to code around them.
I understand that you're angry. But please stop trying to blame an innocent bystander.
Adobe cannot do anything to fix the bugs in your scanner driver. Only the authors of your scanner driver can fix the bugs in your scanner driver.
Until they provide an update to fix the bugs in the driver, your choices are to keep crashing, or not use that buggy scanner driver.
I am going to make this short.
It depends on how you look at it. From your angle, Adobe did their's and the scanner companies are to blame for their buggy software. What you are saying here would be - if compared - resemble a situation where you would go to a car dealer, buy a car, then drive away just to find that the trailer tow hitch you attached your old trailer to would keep falling off all the time. When confronting the dealer about the issue he would reply to you that you have to talk to the manufacturer of the trailer because the problem is their responsibility. How would you as a client react...?
Maybe it is true that the driver software is buggy. However it still did work though under other conditions before this update. That means that you updated something that made these things appear frequently. Maybe you don't know and only they do. Fair enough. But us customers don't have to work these problems out or live with them nor do we have to use our time on posting and fixing companies' errors and mistakes. That's what we pay you for. We only need to use this application hassle free on the spot. Maybe you should start crash testing in an controlled environment before you apply these updates and then post them. Or make a deal with those companies to do so for you. Maybe they will then ignore you or won't tell you about possible bugs to hike their own skin. Fair enough as well. Create some sort of program, a label or whatever that you apply and hand out only to those companies that are "certified by and working with Adobe software" and that they can put on their products or you on your very own Adobe website for all us customers to see and to use as a type of guidance in order to have working hardware and applications and avoid these errors.

I've just installed After Effects CS6 from the cloud. I run Photoshop, & Illustrator CS5.5 with no problems.
Here are the full errors it gives me on startup. I have never been able to successfully get After Effects to load.

"After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message was: <6632> <GPUManager> <2> Sniffer Result Code: 1"
I have an ATI Radeon 7850 card. Tried uninstalling the drivers completely and re-installing latest Catalyst drivers. Then tried uninstalling completely again and installing the beta 13.3 drivers. Still same crash error.

Also, Noel Carboni over at the PS forum might have to say a word or two on the drivers... He recommends to not use 13.3 at all and his list of "safe" versions only includes 12.8... You also have an awful lot of CoDecs in your list, so you might consider uninstalling some of them/ the apps that introduced them. This may also help....

Compressor crashes on openning, Qmaster crashes seconds after openning
Hey guys,
Last night I was having trouble modifying video settings in Compressor. It would not bring up the settings window when trying to modify H.264 compression.
I then decided to reinstall Compressor. Upon doing so it would crash on openning. I then reinstalled it again (making sure to remove all traces and such) to the same demise.
I then went all out and completely removed Final Cut Studio. I then Installed FCP 4 (compressor 1.2 I beleive). Compressor still would crash on openning. The only odd part about the installation was after I restarted a message apeared saying that Qmaster needed to fix it's startup settings because it didn't have the proper security settings or something so I pressed "fix". To no avail, the application still crashed.
This led me to believe that it was related to Qmaster. I then installed the FCP 4.5 update. Then installed the FCP Studio 5 upgrade. Still to no end, the program still crashes.
Interestingly enough, when I launch Qmaster 2, it crashes after a few moments. I should differentiate between the two crashes. When Qmaster crashes it gives me the option to report it to Apple. When compressor crashes it doesn't even open. it pops up on the dock and goes away just as fast as it popped up. It never really even opens.
I installed all the proruntime updates. I've gone through every forum avalaible to no find no solution.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Alex KirkwoodFrameworks probably got whacked when you installed 1.2 over 2.0. Use this script to remove Qmaster/Compressor and start over. USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! NO WARRANTY, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED!
