Compressor decoding takes hours

hi there, I have MacPro, Intel Core Xeon and decoding of project from FCP X with compressor takes hours.
Its a 4 minute project - even using clusters does not reduce decoding time....
a) has somebody the same problemes
b) has compressor app to be open at other macs that are in the cluster?

What's the frame size of your source?  I notice compressor 4 is taking longer on jobs that need frame re-sizing than compressor 3 did.
I did have the same problem, despite 8 plus 8 virtual cores fully uitulised, there was endless disk activity and it was taking ages.
Have you set the number of instances to half the number of your cores (or virtual cores)? - some debate about the number of instances to set.
In the preferences there's a default option to 'copy source as required', I found it help to set it to 'always copy source'

  • Why does compressor 4 take longer

I imported my old custom settings from compressor 3 into compressor 4.
To do the exact same conversion compressor for takes 3 times a long....everything is the same except the program
Im trying to take a 10gb 1080i60 video and make it into a 200mb h264.mov...in compressor 3 about an hour....in compressor 4 about 3 or so hours.
    any ideas?

Unless something has gone catastrophically wrong, you should never have to perform the uninstall/reinstall/reapply the patch hokey pokey. So that's just wasted effort. There is a simple way to perform what I call the "Factory Reset".
I recently described how to do this in the thread linked below:

I might question why this is needed at all. Perhaps you are unaware of some things that help you avoid issues with Captivate.
    For example:
How many slides are in your projects? We normally recommend keeping projects somewhere between 50-65 slides as a rule of thumb guideline for the upper limit.
Where exactly are your projects residing when you make edits? Frequently we see folks working with projects on a network drive. This is less than optimal and will often cause issues and slowness and project corruption. Work locally off your C drive and periodically copy the project the network server to be backed up.
Hopefully something here was helpful to you... Rick

  • Building takes hours and hours?

My movie is 40 seconds long. I have a 2 Motion pages menu. Building is a 7 % after 1 hour waiting!
Is this normal? Will it take hours and hours?
    Thank you!

Animation, Uncompressed 8 Bit or 10 Bit or some other Codec, not DV or HDV when exporting. Bring that into Compressor and compress (or you can send straught to Compressor from Motion) I usually just export all my bits and pieces from Motion as uncompressed than use an encoder

  • Why does it take hours to import mp4 files into iMovie

I have some home movies I imported from VHS-C and compressed to mp4 files and now I want to start going through them in iMovie but it takes hours just to import a single clip (~575 meg).
What can I do to speed this up? Would getting a Mac Pro with loads of RAM and CPU's help? Would converting to a different video format before I import work?
Right now I have all this video I converted to digital and thus far spent days just importing and haven't been able to do anything with it yet!
I'm using an iMac core duo with 2 gig RAM and the upgraded video card (best one they had at the time).
    Any help is appreciated!

This worked fine for me, was exactly what I wanted.
1 - Create the project in iMovie HD and then save and close.
2 - Locate the file on your computer. Ctrl-click on the file and it will say "show package contents". Click on that.
3 - You will then see some folder items inside that. Open up "Media" and then drag and drop your mpeg file into it.
4 - When you reopen the project, you will be notified that there are files in your trash. You want to view them to find the file you just moved there.
5 - Take that file and drag it back onto the project and you're in.
    A major blessing!

  • When I am downloading songs it takes hours for it to finish?

I am having trouble downloading things from the itunes store. My internet connection is fine, I can surf the web top speed, do what I need to do, but the things that I buy from itunes store it takes hours for it to finish. Even when I try to download my podcasts it doesn't goes though, it gives me an error 404 or the network timed out. It happened after I have updated my itunes. Any suggestions?

What codec is your source material?
    What are your sequence settings?
What kind of files are making up your layers?  Video (What codec?)  Photos (RGB or CMYK?)  Motion Graphics?
You will need to supply more info for us to assist you.

  • Takes hours and hours to update iphone

I have in iPhone and my husband has one and we were using one iTunes account (which was mine). When I go to update my husbands software it says it will take at least 80 hours to update. Mine only took 10minutes. After hours of trying to sort it out I gave up. Have since set up my husband with own apple I'd. But still it takes hours to update. What can I do to get my husbands iPhone updated. Shod I restore his phone and start frfrom scratch. I think iTunes is confused because we have same apps etc.

When we go to play a purchased tv show it takes hours to play?

    measure your internet speed
    http://www.speedtest.net/
you can calulate yourself how long it should take to download the movie or tv show
if your internet speed is faster then you recieve the data then the issue must be in apples server

Does it always take hours to download a movie through apple tv when renting a movies through itunes?

This is dependent on your network connection. Check www.speedtest.net

You can switch to SD in the settings if on a slower connection

  • Elgato Game Capture HD Footage takes Hours to Import

First off, I use a late 2009 21.5 inch iMac with an Intel 3.06 Ghz core 2 Duo, 12 Gigs Ram, and an Nvidia Geforce, 9400 265 mb with Mountain Lion . And all drivers up to date.
I've been having this issue for a while and with the increased work load I have been taking on, its now becoming unbearable. Every time I import Elgato Hd Footage (720p 60 FPS at high to even lowest quality) The import can take hours, Almost as long and often longer than the video even is. I thought it was a codec problem, but I have a friends footage I'm also editing that I have to convert and it gets converted to mp4 with a h264 codec as well. (Image being added below) And his imports just in a few short minutes. I have tried converting my footage as well but this does not seem to help and the only other file format I can do is MKV which adobe doesn't seem to take.
My friend footage is in the properties to the left, and Mine are on thee right. I understand there is a difference in file size and duration, but it doesn't seem like it should be making this big of a difference, where his imports in about 2 minutes when mine is in hours. This even happens if I open up the project after saving, it takes hours for it to simply load up the video. I have also tried this with videos in smaller sizes and the results seem scaled almost the same.
Please i could really use some advice on what to try out here, cause I'm out of ideas.

You're going to notice a huge difference going from what you have to 12gb, I don't know how big a difference you'll notice from 12 to 16. The reason Apple doesn't "support" 32gb in iMacs is that they write the specs at the time the machine is released taking into account the available technology at that time. Apple doesn't update it's specs for existing machines when new tecnology becomes available. If Crucial and OWC say 32 will work you'll have no trouble by using it. You won't go wrong with Crucial, I've used them foerver. Enjoy your new ram whatever you end up getting. Run Activity Monitor now and check out the page outs you're getting and run it again after you upgrade and you'll really get a visual of the difference.

  • Slow Performance - Add/Modify Protectiongroup, Refresh Agent, ... take hours

    Hi all,
    I freshly installed DPM 2012 SP1 on a clean Windows Server 2012 (Intel Xeon E5-2609 @ 2,4Ghz, 16GB RAM).
The protection data gets stored on an internal RAID5 with 12TB. Firewall is disabled.
At this moment there are 39 protected datasources in 6 protection groups.
My problem is, that the easiest jobs take hours:
    - refresh of the protection agents (up to 2 hours)
    - press "finish" at the "modify protection group"-wizzard (more than 1 hour)
    - expand our Win2008R2 Failovercluster with 80 VMs at "new protection group"-wizzard (dont know how long it will take, until now i didnt get it expanded after hours of waiting...)
Under these circumstances DPM is not practicable!
Can anyone help? I have no idea how to troubleshoot this.
    Thank you!

    Hi
    Have you come right?
If you break up your protection groups do they refresh quicker? have you applied the latest rollups or upgraded to R2?

  • Why does apple tv take hours to record

Why does Apple TV take hours to record movies?

Not sure what you mean by 'record movies'
If you are trying to rent a movie and it's taking a long time before it starts then that is due to your connection.
720P requires 6mbps for instant streaming
    1080P requires 8mbps
You can switch to SD in the settings
To check your connection go to speedtest.net

Doing the following wouldn't hurt either:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
