Compressor - New Target With Setting - Slow Response

Compressor is taking a very long time (20 minutes) to apply settings to clips in the Job window. The length of time taken to respond increases with the number of clips in the batch (eg. 45 clips takes about 20 minutes). This is not rendering as such, +just applying the settings+.
The source clips come from a Canon 7D (H.264) as 1920x1080p25. I'm trying to ingest these clips into Avid, but the Avid is clipping the highlights unless I first render using QT's Avid1:1x codec controlling the input levels via the RGB setting.
Clearly a lot of processing is going on as 2 cores (out of 8) are busy and there is a lot of disk activity on my RAID.
I am trying to batch process about 400 clips and the wait is over an hour before I can submit the job.
Just to recap, I am wondering about the time it takes to +apply settings+ to the batch.
Any ideas?
Any better workflows?
Maybe some hardware solutions.

I am experiencing the same problem. When I apply settings to clips shot from a 7D, (or any H.264 clips) it is takes a very long time (about 5 min for a 2-3 min clip) for Compressor to apply the settings to the batch. I am also using a Mac Pro with 8 cores and my clips are stored on a 6TB "LaCie 5big Network 2" raid system connected via eSATA. It's frustrating when you spend so much on equipment and still don't get good performance.
Sorry I didn't answer your question, but maybe it helps to know its not just happening to you. If anyone has a solution it would be very helpful.

New OIF installation - Very slow response from OHS

Hi,
I've installed two instances of OIF 10.1.4.0.1 in order to create a test configuration to test XASP Attribute Sharing (i.e., we are not doing any other profiles).
Both OIF instances are using a separate instance of Sun Directory Server as its User Data Store, and both are using in-memory for Transient Data Store and have no Federation Data Store. Both OIF instances were installed similarly, using the "BASIC" installation choices, and are running on separate Redhat Linux servers.
The problem that we're seeing is very slow (10+ seconds to 30+ seconds) responses, even when we try to access a static HTML test page that we've placed in the OHS htdocs directory.
We've eliminated any networking problems as possibilities by a couple of tests that we've done, including shutting down the OHS and running a small, different test web server listening on port 7777. When we do that, response time for requests from that web server is almost instantaneous.
We are also seeing the same slow response when we try to access the test HTML page from the same server itself.
We have an SR open with Oracle, but so far, we've not been able to identify what the problem might be, so I'm hoping that perhaps someone else may have encountered this problem and have a resolution.
It is really puzzling because, as I said, this is a pretty vanilla default OIF installation, and it is doubly puzzling because even getting a tiny static HTML page is taking 10+ seconds. Also, I had installed OIF 10.1.4.0.1 on a Windows machine previously, and I don't see this problem on that earlier installation.
If anyone here has any insight into this problem, please let me know.

I think that I was able to temporarily work around this problem, plus another problem that I think is related (see: New OIF installation - Very slow response from OHS
What I did was to just comment out the "include" line for "dms.conf" in the Apache httpd.conf.
Doing that got rid of the "Address already in use" errors I was seeing in Apache error_log and also eliminated the slow response I was seeing from Apache/OHS (see that other post in "Identity Management" forum), BUT I am getting new errors about Apache not being able to find "htdocs/dms/Spy0".
I have the impression that dms is some kind of process monitoring system that Oracle has in 10gAS infrastructure? So, I have some questions:
1) What's the effect of dms not working?
2) Is it possible to just disable dms?
I hope that Oracle support can come up with a "real" fix for both problems, but in the meantime, as long as what I did doesn't break anything else besides dms, we can at least test the OIF stuff.

New machine install, terribly slow response

I'm hoping someone can shed some light here, I've recently built a new NLE for CS5.5 and the thing's incredibly slow to load, encode or even respond to an export command.
A few specs on the new machine:
Dual Xeon 3.47GHz 6 core CPU's, 12 cores total, 24 logical cores total
Supermicro X8DTL motherboard, intel 5500 chipset
24GB registered RAM in triple channel mode
Win7 Pro 64 bit with all updates
Matrox MXO2 LE capture/playback
Nvidia GTX 580 4GB video card
Intel LSI MegaRaid SATA raid controller
7TB RAID 5 array on the RAID card
Installed software consists of PPro CS 5.5 suite, Avira anti virus and Firefox web browser. Beyond that it's a clean install
Now for my problems.
Premiere generally takes about 2 minutes to load from the desktop and is slow to respond after that. I've loaded a 40 second HD timeline consisting of 2 XDCAM HD video clips and one stereo music track. When I export this simple timeline it takes 3 minutes for the encode options to pop up, then once I select BluRay HD for the preset and queue it takes another 3 minutes before Media Encoder launches. At the time I'm writing this Media Encoder has been encoding for 30 minutes and it's only about 50% done with that 40 second timeline. For comparison my old dual core laptop with it's single internal drive takes about 30 seconds to launch Premiere (CS4 in it's case) and it encodes the same timeline in about 4 minutes.
Something's very wrong here; I'm hoping it's something simple like a wrong setting. The computer itself seems to work fine and the Windows index benchmarks at 7.8 outside of a slower C drive coming in at 6. All the project material is on the RAID and the programs and OS are on the C drive. Anyone have any thoughts? I'm going to have to get started on a major project shortly and I can't imagine doing it on this machine as it is.

Disconnecting from my LAN would be problematic in that several machines have files shared with the editor and vice versa... Lightwave for example is on a separate machine and most of my Photoshop stuff is on a third. All machines are clean and checked daily for infection... at about 3AM so it doesn't try while I'm working. If I suspect something I'll run Malwarebytes (in manual mode). So far in the last 10 years I've only had one virus get through on my personal machine and nothing has hit any of the business ones.
I do have a hardware firewall on the LAN and I don't let Avira AV scan files while I'm editing. I've used Avira free on my last 2 systems without any issues (one Avid Liquid and the other Premiere CS2). I certainly wouldn't trust Norton or McAffee to walk the dog, let alone protect a machine... too much bloatware.
Jeff, I'm not totally sure what issues I still have; I'll find out this week as I get started on a project though. (Fortunately no clients present so I've time to work out any lingering bugs... if I had to do it in front of clients I'd probably use the old machine.) I did notice that disabling the SurCode solved the load issue anyway... my project with roughly 200 hours of XDCAM footage in several Bins loads in ~45 seconds or so. Of course there's nothing yet on the timeline; that will probably slow things down some. Oh, I'm not using any of the "max bit depth" settings and wasn't at the time I rendered out those bluray disks. Maybe it's my imagination on the slowdown (once things actually opened) but it did take more than real time to encode a 45 minute bluray disk. This was before I disabled the SurCode; hopefully that solved the issue. Bottom line is that the system seems to function now, I'll know if anything else is out of whack as I actually start using the machine.
On RAID I simply do not trust RAID 0 for anything; I've lost days of work before due to a failure on a RAID 0 setup so I always use RAID 5 for safety. I assumed that the Intel card would work as I've used an earlier model in my old Avid Liquid system with no problem and it was faster than an E-Sata external. With 5 - 2TB drives for storage the odds of a RAID 0 failure don't seem appealing.

New customer with extremely slow boadband speeds

My BT Broadband was activated on Monday 12/08/13 and ever since my broadband has often been unusable due to such poor speeds. I know in the literature BT provide, it states that it may take 3 days for the speed to stabilize, but I am now around the end of that 3 day period and there is no improvement. I have done 20-30 speed tests over the last 3 days and the highest download speed I have seen in 0.9mb/s. Only on one occasion was it this high, usually, it ranges between 0.16mb/s and 0.3mb/s. Strangely, my upload speed tends to be higher at around 0/9mb/s.
I switched from Sky Broadband where I was getting at least 2.5mb/s even on a bad day, but usually my speed was over 4mb/s. When installing the BT broadband, all I have done is replace the 4 year old Sky router with the new BT Home Hub 4. Everything else is the same, so I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to achieve the same speeds as before.
I work from home and need a constant and stable internet connection. I haven't been able to work since BT broadband was installed. I need to fix this ASAP please, any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Brand new macbook with really slow internet all of a sudden? I have etrecheck please help!

My macbook air is just over a month old and has been working great until this week.
Weird things...
Firstly. I turned it on one day and it came up with an error saying my ip adress has been used by another device
Secondly. Random screen saver comes on when i have not changed any settings
FInally. My internet is ridiculously slow. The internet pages need to be refreshed constantly and half the time load after 10 mins or not at all.
My wifi is connected to my iphone which i have been using as internet as the speeds on that are not affectd.
I change my DNS to 8.8.8.8 and did not allow ipv6 with a restart and cleared cache like other forums recommended. Still did nothing but here is an etrecheck report.

How to open new form with set value

I have two forms CLIENT and ORDERS who are connected by "client_id" in a one to many relationship [one client can have many orders]. What code to I put in the button so that that when I click on it from the CLIENT table, it goes to the ORDERS form with just the orders that match that "client_id"? The application is in oracle 9i developer using swing.

New tab with sidebar slow to load

I updated to Mavericks on my Macbook Pro Retina yesterday.
Safari 7 has an issue with loading a new tab, when the sidebar is on for new tabs.
When I click the plus symbol for a new tab, there is a pause: the new tab takes 2 - 3 seconds to load.
When the side bar for new tabs is off, the new tab loads instantly.
I have reset Safari, and restarted the Macbook Pro. This hasnt changed anything.
I have no extensions installed.
Anyone else finding this happening?

I have discovered thats its the Twitter information (the fetching of information process that happens in the sidebar) that is causing the delay when opening the new tab.
If you turn off the sidebar OR change it to bookmarks, then the delay doesnt happen.
I wonder if Apple are bothered by this, looking into fixing the anonying delay?

Creating new templates with set of assets in KeyNote

I have on my desktop a set of files -- tiff, plist, apul, quick look, stripes, theme files in a folder -- and I need to inport these into a template to start work on a project. I have dragged down to see template items the two horizontal lines, so I see the master slide where I should set up templates and save as a theme to make my library, but how do I get the files into the template? Save As drop down does not provide as Save AS Template. Of these files types, the theme files I assume is what I want. Help!

Wait, you have all the components out of a .kth file, but you don't actually have the file? What happened? You can't just import parts like that into Keynote...the best you can do is put them all in a folder and rename the folder name.kth and see what it does in the finder. Maybe it'll work.
Also, the File menu in Keynote does indeed contain a Save Theme... item.

Slow response when using Xcelsius web service connection witn input values

We've been very successful in using the Xcelsius Web Service Connection. We've recently moved forward toward using input values when calling a web service and having issues with response time. Without input values, it takes 3 - 6 seconds to retrieve and display the results in Xcelsius, but, when using the input values to the web service, it takes about 27 seconds for Xcelsius to retrieve and display the results. Does anyone have experience with fixing slow response associated with using input values for a web service connection?

I'm asking because using the last version of BOBJ server (BOXI 3.1 SP 3) you have new services on CMC just to help Xcelsius to work better with WebServices.

Slow response on data dictionary queries with optimizer_mode=rule in 10g

I have two dataabse: DB1 (9i) and DB2 (10g) on windows 2000
They are two development databases with the same schemas and same tables. The application executes the same commands but with different results and execution plans.
In DB2 the queries with the most slow response tima are the queries on the data dictionary (for example: all_synonyms).
These query are very fast with the optimizer_mode=cost and very slow with the optimizer_mode=rule.
And the the problem is this:
in DB1 and DB2 the application executes after the connection this command:
ALTER SESSION SET OPTIMIZER_MODE = 'RULE';
These are the traces of the session in db1 and db2:
The queries are created dynamically by the application.
Is there a solution for this?

CS5 laging, slow response on my new pc i7 , help!!

Hello, i have Dell XPS 950 i7 with 8gb Ram, ATI HD 5450. Im having problems with running LR 3.3 and CS5. LR problem you can find here http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/989277/2#9475464 . And now back to my CS5 problem. when i apply actions it get slow response and delay on some actions. those would be like a blur tool or selective tool. when i use selective tool i have to wait 2 seconds for it to apply every time i select a small area of my photo. this way it takes me forever to select my object. i have done a complete restore of my system thinking there was a virus or something like that.. and still same problem. when i first bought my new computer i didn't had any of these issues. I ran memory diagnostics and it passed fine I even called Dll and they couldn't find anything. can someone please point me in the right direction with any clues what it could be???? i know for sure that this is not normal performance for this PC since it all worked fine before.

i did not, all though the tech guy from adobe he was remotely messing with my PC when i called them and i saw him trying to update the video driver but the massage said that it had the latest update. Im not home right now to see the version i have. will this effect my lightroom in anyway?? if i disable OpenGL, what am I losing and how do i get back to the older version video driver?

I can't get download to work - it will not copy the mp3 file to my chosen location (as set in tools/options) - it gives me a new window with a player - no dwnlo

I am running windows xp sp2 and I have set my dowload location under (tools/options), but when I select an MP3 file to download, firefox does NOT copy the file to my chosen location on my HD - instead, it opens up a new window with a makeshift "player" and begins loading the player with the MP3 file. The problem is that I have no idea where on my system firefox has copied this file to, so, I cannot leave and come back later and play this MP3 file using winamp. I have to listen to it right then or lose it - if I close that new window (with that puny little "player"), then I lose the download, wherever firefox put it on my PC (I got no idea where it is). This is all under firefox 25.0
I am also running FIrefox 12.0 on an older windows 2000 machine and that works perfectly - I can download any MP3 file I want, and firefox 12.0 (on win2k, sp4) downloads it to my chosen location (on my HD), and it gives me the download window so I can watch its progress and have some control over pause, and resume, and, when it is done, the download window offers me the option to "open containing folder" so I can make sure it got to where I wanted it. In other words, Firefox 12.0 on WIn2k, sp4 works better than firefox 25.0 on winxp sp2!!!!! What gives? I went through and set up my options for XP just like I did with Win2k and it all looks good, but firefox 25.0 just ignores my chosen location and always defaults to give me that makeshift player and I am not able to actually copy the mp3 file to my harddrive - it makes firerox 25.0 almost unusable since downloading mp3 files is a big part of my firexfox use - please help - I am not able to upgrade windows at this time, and, since firefox 12.0 still works fine on win2k, I can't understand what happened at firefox?

Hi, I have an iTunes account on my laptop set up to work with my old iPod. I now have an iPad and new iPod but set up under a different account- can I put all the songs from my iTunes onto the new devices. Thanks.
